Steve from OH......I suspect that Bobby Cox will soon go with a platoon in the corner outfield positions of Garret and Church against righties.........and Diaz and Infante (Infante can play the outfield) against lefties. That way, all 4 players wont be overworked, plus the 2 who dont start can be valuable pinch hitters off the bench.

Paul Lentz: "The Braves did not do Glavine wrong. Glavine’s shoulder did him wrong"

Could not agree with you more. Also, most have long forgotten how Glavine crapped all over the Braves when he left for the Mets. Loyalty, respect, appreciation, etc. is supposed to work BOTH ways.....not just for the player.

Nova Scotia Steve........thanks for the props. Every game is important. We arent going to win every game from now until the end of the season. So the games that we do lose, hopefully wont hurt too much. However a loss tonight would hurt more because it is a game that we should not lose.............if we can truly dig out of the hole that we dug for ourselves the first 3 months of the season.

If we were sitting where the Phillies are right now, then sure, a loss tonight wouldnt "hurt as bad" because we would have the breathing room to recover and get our SH!T together. However we dont have that luxury.

Steve from OH,

What"s wrong with GA playing every day. His batting average must be at least equal to Church and Diaz. It might even be better than McLouth since he has not exactly been lighting it up lately. GA can flat out hit. What's your reasoning based on?

Steve, McFann,

I reserve the right to revise and amend my remarks.

Church's numbers vs. LHP are pretty bad. If you benched him, though, who would lead off? Infante? Nate's numbers vs. lefties are bad, too, and Yunel hits RHP better. Tough decision.

I'd also run a platoon at cleanup -- Heap (1.105 OPS)/Diaz (.918 OPS). On the days lefties are pitching and Ross is not giving Mac a breather, I'd drop Heap to 6th or 7th. Diaz should hit no lower than 5th vs. LHP.

RemoW..........due your 11:26am posting about how Frank Wren handled the the Tom Glavine situation is TOTALLY off base.

Glavine was signed in March with the EXPECTATION that he would be ready to start on April 18th. Many of you forget that the 5th spot in the rotation would come up for the first time, given the number of off days early in April. So the Braves gave Tom Glavine time to get ready for his first start.

However he started experiencing shoulder discomfort in April. This was an unexpected development. When he signed, he was supposed to have recovered from last year, whereas with Smoltz it was common knowledge that he wouldnt be able to make it back until mid-June the earliest.

So when Glavine couldnt make his start on April 18th, the Braves called up Jo Jo Reyes to make the start. Meanwhile, Jo Jo sucked as usual. The Braves then called up Kris Medlen, who made a few decent starts.

When Tom Glavine was ready (health) wise to pitch for the big club in early June.....it became apparent to Braves management that his stuff wasnt there. With the fact that Tommy Hanson was ready to be promoted.......Frank Wren made an easy decision and cut Glavine.

The Braves did not do Glavine wrong. Glavine's shoulder did him wrong. He would have had a chance to pitch in April if his shoulder didnt act up. When Glavine was so to rehab his shoulder, then I feel that the Braves were within their rights to go in a different direction.

I think that it can be safe to say with the success of Tommy Hanson that the Braves did the right thing. The fact that John Schuerholtz had to give that BS press conference the next day (to placate some of the "weak-A$$, sentimental, so-called Braves fans" who caused such an uproar) was pretty sad.

Dont get me wrong. I appreciate what Glavine and Smoltz did for us during their years of service. However, I dont want the Braves to give them "welfare contracts" because of past experiences. I want to see the Braves compete and win games today. TODAY. I pay $200 for the Extra Innings package on Direct TV every year because I have a "hope" that the Braves are going to do their best to win games. If they lose, I can accept that. However, what I CANNOT ACCEPT is Braves management putting an "old timers" team out there, just so some phony Braves fans can feel good about the "good old days".

If I wanted to "reminisce" about the past, I'd go to Youtube and type in "Sid Bream slide" if I want to "re-live" the past Braves glory. That, I can do for free.
