KK probably won’t get a win…the Braves showing one more time (about 20-25 times total this season) that Wins for starting pitcher are so over-rated and do not at all tell the story on how a pitcher has performed.
Bravesfan, leave this blog because I highly doubt wren called him up at 12:35 est time.
Kelly facing the righty but not starting and face the lefty
August 9th, 200912:32 am
Wow, this offense got SOOOO sparked with KK’s effort… look at them… trying so hard… to keep it scoreless.
Heath: or anyone what did Ross say to Escobar and WHY?
We’re saved! Norton on deck!
Seriously, where is Brooks Conrad?
dodgers have best pen in the majors i believe
August 9th, 200912:33 am
Braves got to pull this out. KK went 7 and 125, and pitched out of that bases loaded jam…Come On Braves!!
Eric In Albany N.Y.
And now at the plate!
No, I mean for real.
Stolen base for Kelly.
Greg Norton…. (Done-done done)
If Chipper didn’t go after it…I guarantee you the players would be po’d at him….and rightfully so…
Seriously, as pitcher facing Norton, would you be scared pitching to him?
Rob from SC
Why make a pitching change here.
Norton sucks both ways
I’d rather have KK hit for himself than Norton. I’d rather have KK’s interpreter than Norton.
For heaven’s sake Bobby, why not pinch-hit McCann here? WHY do we always have to rely on someone who can’t even hit his own body-weight?
Torre making a change to face Norton … must not have Norton scouted well
From what I could see… he said G Dit, WTF.
Yikes! The threat of Greg Norton has pushed Joe Torre to make a pitching change. I’d love it if Norton could get a heaping helping of redemption by parking one in the cheap seats.
August 9th, 200912:34 am
OK…I’ll get off Esco now….let’s get a run…and it’ll all be forgotten….
Joe Torre's Brain
Gotta turn Norton around. Don’t want him hitting from his power side.
bravofan… it wasn’t exactly repeatable on here. and it wasn’t necessarily at Yunel.
He showed frustration at the result of the play, go with that.
don’t we have most of our normal starters on the bench… does bobby think norton is better than all of them
Greg Norton…what would happen if any of us consistent got AB’s over the course of a major league season. Call it now. Looking or Swinging?
I did see Ross say, “What the ****” but I thought he has saying it at himself.
Bobby’s enamored with the lefty/righty matchup regardless of what the stats read for any particular player. Never mind that Kelly is no where near the Mendoza line against righties. That ain’t holding Bobby back.
“I’d rather have KK’s interpreter than Norton.”
August 9th, 200912:35 am
Lol, well said brent a.
lol turning Norton around
Good call though pointing that out.
Norton needs to make a statement here. One way or another, he needs to tell Bobby something.
Steve from OH
Helluva job by KK. Gutty. Clutch. David Eckstein.
Seriously though, bravo!
I also do understand the KJ scenario. If Bobby knew that KJ hits better agains lefties, why did he not start?
“I’d rather have KK’s interpreter than Norton.”
Lentz’s favorite “veteran” pinch hitter up in another critical game changing AB.
Well Paul…if Norton comes through will hell freeze over?
donkeys….there might be a more crucial spot with RISP to bring in the likes of Mac to pinch hit.
i hate that i have to watch mlb.tv and im delayed. this inning could already be over and i wouldnt know yet
August 9th, 200912:36 am
Norton is hitting .333 from the right side.
“Hey! It’s Tom Hanks… I wanted a celebrity… and they got me Tom Hanks. Damn”
My Gripe about KK has rarely been about HIM. It’s been about our lack of need for him, and overpaying for him to end up being the 5th starter.
Even in the midst of my KK rants, I’ve always stated that while “in the game” he gives us good inning most of the time.
It’s just like the Vazquez griping early in the year.
It has more to do with us having so much money tied up in the rotation, and zero offense to go with it. It’s amusing that everybody wants to have pity for KK because the offense scores no runs for him (especially while he’s actually in the games). But ironically, it’s the signing of KK that hindered Wren from adding a bigger bat, either via trade or free agency.
It’s not KK’s fault that Wren spent the money that should have been spent on a bat on him. So, to feel sorry for KK is fine.
sherill is due for a bad outing
A double by Norton would be nice. Kelly has speed.
The Dodger bullpen is getting a lot of work in as well. If the Braves can steal this one tonight, then with Javier pitching tomorrow, the Braves should have the edge.
Then with the off day on Monday and Thursday, if the Braves can get good starting pitching from Hanson and Lowe against the Nationals, then hopefully our bullpen will be rested for the Phillies series next weekend.
the real Andy
what a pen the dodgers have. oy!
Norton, let the ball hit you!!!!
So…guesses on who pitches the 8th?
10 BUCKS SAYS NORTON GETS A HIT OR WALK IM FEELING IT
why make a pitching change now does joe torre knows how much norton sukcs why waste a pitcher on him
Wasted? What exactly was wasted in that scenario Joe just described?
August 9th, 200912:37 am
i’m not the biggest greg norton fan in the world, but I bet he’s a better hitter than anybody that posts on message boards who is not a professional baseball player
wow…what a gutsy performance from kk… he deserves to win..
Norton’s got Sherrill rattled. He’s nervous.
Here we go!
“The only draw back to stealing Kelly is you waste Norton and would HAVE to bring in another pinch hitter.” Hilarious.
lol, wow .. haha he walked Nort
Nice. Come on Church, do it again!
Joe Torre can kill pitchers as good as Dusty Baker. Example Scott Proctor
All part of my master plan.
How dumb is it not to throw a strike to Norton?
we have a chance with church now
August 9th, 200912:38 am
Medlen is coming in the 8th.
Wow, they were scared to pitch to Norton. Good for us. Come on Church!! Do it again.
Did Sherrill know he was facing Greg Norton?
“So…guesses on who pitches the 8th?”
Can Church do it again????
oh my god i cant belived he walked him
“I am Greg Norton FEAR ME!!!!”
Please walk Church! then we get to Prado!
August 9th, 200912:39 am
That damn near broke me.
sherrill is doing a moylan!
Damn our bad luck.
Norton didn’t make an out. He’s forgiven for tonight on the blog!
I’m done with this, off to bed.
a bit tongue and cheek munz…before this blows up into a would you have done it if you were jh argument. Yes Greg Norton is a better hitter than me and everyone else on this bored.
Chop It Up All-Stars
Damn Kelly, where’s your fancy footwork?!
How about trying to avoid the tag with a slide or something of that nature, Kelly?
August 9th, 200912:40 am
well, the longer this game goes without a braves lead, the memories of that walkoff come to mind. ARGh
Darn it Kelly, he should have avoided that tag!
Yeah, poor Keshin Kawa-Kickass
Take the midnight train going any where!
Maybe Kelly’s safe if he tries to slide around and away?
August 9th, 200912:41 am
TOLD YA WOW
Told ya? You called that Norton would get a hit or walk. That’s basically 2/3 of the likely outcomes. Hit, walk, out.
oh please, a slide wouldnt have saved him… get off his jock
N8……….if the Braves didnt have to pay Hudson $13 mil this season (you cant file an insurance claim until after the season, when it will be known how much time Hudson will end up missing), then Frank Wren would have gone after another bat (either via trade or free agency) last off season.
Knowing that, I see no problem with the money that we have tied up in our starting pitching.
WTF?! “Don’t stop believing” is the White Soxs song!
August 9th, 200912:42 am
I love how Kelly Johnson decides not to at least try to avoid the tag.
As if that had any possibility of getting through.
munz…………how many people on here are making $800,000 a year to hit a baseball?
Let’s see what you’re made of, kid. Go get ‘em, Medlen!
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
