Hmmm, a good manager takes advantage of another team’s mistakes. Faking the bunt and letting a hitter swing away with the team’s defense playing for the bunt, which lead to a run; and that stolen base was pretty aggressive too.

It might not be a stretch to say that. I would say that Matty is better than y’all give him credit for, but GA is awful…
Hopefully Jordan Schafer brings his playin’ ears next year.

DOB… this was the post that I put up a little while ago… now that the game has tightened up and looks like a possible one run game.. wouldn’t you rather have the back of your bullpen fresh and given Logan and Co. a chance to get a few outs a spacious PETCO with a fun run lead?
I guess it is easier to manage with 20/20 hindsight… cheers.

Since you have alot more connections with statasticians than we do… Is there a way that you can pull the statistics on Mike Gonzales pitching out of the stretch vs, the windup. Seems like his control is much better with runners on base. Also, why does Bobby Cox historically bring in Gonzales, Soriano and Moylan when leading by 4 runs (like yesterday). Also seems to me that you could try and use your #4 or #5 bullpen options to get a few outs.

A “tracphone” is a very cheap cellular telephone with pre-paid minutes. Kinda like that “Jitterbug” thing you see for old people. I know because I used to have one.

There’s a good inning by Lowe. I think if Manny had done a few more steroids, he might have been able to “fist” that ball over the in-field. As it was, a weak liner to SS.

DOB, that comment wast meant to come across as it does when you single it out without the surrounding comments that made up that post. That being said, thanks for the response.
Call it boredom. Call it being at home with nothing to do on a Thursday night. Call it NOT having to actually work while paying attention to the game like you do.
But since I had made the comment a day or two ago about how Smoltz should be in our pen this year, and perhaps he might be next year, I had actually dug into the numbers BEFORE I made that comment.
I just think he’s smart enough to do what he needs to do (if his arm doesn’t fall off) to get through an inning, one at a time. Father time just doesn’t seem to allow him to go deep into games anymore, and or he’s lost enough on his breaking pitches, to not be able to adjust the 2nd and 3rd time through the order.
I think he’d make a very adequate reliever for somebody, if he so chooses to do so.

Are you from Cincinnati? Reason I asked, we all know how well Cincinnatians treated my boy Larry Flynt back in the day. However, Charles Keating (who was the banking industry’s version of Kenneth Lay back in the early 1980’s in the Savings & Loan scandals) was a Christian who vilified Larry Flynt.
It’s interesting how “good Christians” like Kenneth Lay and Charles Keating are given a free pass by the church, just because they gave millions to the church. As long as they were against pornography and homosexuality………it didnt matter that they ripped off BILLIONS from other Americans.
Larry Flynt, on the other hand, deserves to go to hell. Unreal.

Let’s assume that Smoltz does have the ability to come back and be a closer or set-up man. I can’t see him coming back to Atlanta after what happened. I don’t think he would swallow his pride and come back for a minimal contract after he made such a big deal out of the offer he got from the Braves during the offseason.
