Why Diaz over Church? I guess you are looking for a deeper answer than we are facing a LH pitcher tonight who is normally tough on LH hitters.
I’m sure when Wolf gets pulled eventually, we may see Ryan Church in for a pinch hit AB and definitely for defensive purpose to take over for Matt. (Although, truth be told, Anderson isn’t much better than Diaz, we really should be replacing both for defensive purposes)
Choppinmama: I’m not certain, and can’t get an answer really other than an “I don’t know” from Braves people I ask, but I really think they didn’t ask Smoltz to film a segment on Maddux. If I’m wrong, I’m sure someone in the organization will let me know, but I get the impression they didn’t ask him.
Because I sure can’t imagine Smoltz turning down the request if they’d asked, regardless of any bad feelings he had about last winter. He’s too close to Maddux to have turned down a request, at least that’s what I think. Like I said, if I’m wrong someone in the organization will let me know.
UNCBrave: Bobby Cox said Huddy was set to throw a bullpen today or tomorrow to see if he’s ready to go back out on rehab. Cox said he was frankly surprised that he was back throwing so soon after the groin strain last week.
But then Huddy said he still felt it a little today, so the bullpen’s been pushed back a few days.

Supes……….I could be wrong, but Frank Wren isnt exactly the kind of man who enjoys the BS part of being a GM. I think that what fills stadiums, more than anything, is WINNING. Real Braves fans want to see the Braves win. So-called real Braves fans are more interested in seeing their favorite players play, then they are in seeing the Braves win. Saying that you are a Braves fan is one thing. Backing it up with putting team over the individual is something different.
For instance, you hear a lot of athletes talk about “how important” their kids are to them. Yet, how many of these guys go out after a game to the club or bar with their teammates or associates……..rather than home with their families (when they are at home)? If their kids were “that important” to them, then they would want to head home after the game, perhaps in time to tuck their kids in……..or…….maybe get home at a decent hour where they can spend time with their wives, go to bed at a decent hour, and wake up in the morning to take their kids to school.
Saying you love your kids, yet spend very little time with them……..to me say that one does not really “love their kids” as much as they say they do.
N8, 8:58 pm … “Bost could afford to “miss” if Smoltz was done.”
I’m going to throw this one out there, I don’t think Boston is going to make the playoffs this year. Smotzie wouldn’t be in the rotation if they had anyone else. Now, Boston has the “tar baby.” They’ll probably try him in the bullpen. But, how do they get rid of Smoltz, when he could “turn it around” with the next start?
Yeah. He enjoys it. He’s a former Giants ball player. Never made it to the show though. Blew out his arm while in the minors and took the “alt path” to get back close to the game.
Heath: “Does anyone know how to find out which hitter in the NL sees the least number of pitches? I wouldn’t be surprised if it was McLouth with about 3.X pitches”
Sheeesh. Not too long ago this scorn was tossed at Francoeur… and he actually held the title. Now McLouth is in a rut and the knives are out.
Just one Francoeur note. It was probably brought up a bunch earlier this week, but still. On Monday against the D’backs, he went 0-4 with a K….on 6 pitches!!! A 3-pitch K and 3 outs on the 1st pitch. Those type of nights were just unbearable!
That ball hit off the wall BEFORE it hit Matty’s glove. You could see that when they showed the side view. Still doesn’t excuse him for not making the catch, though.
I doubt the Braves will be nearly as focused on Manny Ramirez as those wig-wearings fans seated in the left-fied Mannywood section. Simply because he’s not the hitter that’s killing teams in this lineup lately
If I’m the Braves, I’m concentrating more on Andre Ethier
Just don’t get him completely out of focus though, it could prove costly to do that.

Based on how these guys perform, I would seriously consider the following BA:
1. Prado
2. GA
3. Escobar
4. LaRoche
5. Chipper
6. McCann
7. McLouth
8. Diaz/Church
9. Pitcher
GA is not fast…but the Braves don’t run anyway.
