This is pretty old news but it got me thinking after they mentioned the Padres pitcher went to Duke (I think) and double majored. A WSJ article said only 26 players in MLB have a college degree and Braves rank last in college education according to their formula (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124511558996917441.html).
Pretty amazing but not very surprising given how the Braves typically draft high school kids
now Heyward gets really interesting…both parents Dartmouth graduates…brains and brawn…beginning to understand his plate discipline and overall demeanor.
Gonzo has looked really good the past two nights. Was 92-93 most of today, and hit 95 a couple of times. Struck out the side after a leadoff single. Impressive.
Braves are about to play 4 in LA and might actually require the services of their No. 1 lefty reliever in several of those games.
But with comfortable leads the last 2 games, Chance the Manager feels compelled to use Gonzalez when it wasn’t necessary. Once, OK. Back-to-back: not smart.
Managing your bullpen doesn’t mean managing every game as if it’s one you absolutely, positively HAD TO WIN, regardless of the circumstances.
If the Braves have a 1 or 2-run lead in the 8th inning tomorrow night, who is Cox going to use? We know how effective Gonzalez has been pitching a 3rd straight day, but I doubt that will deter Chance the Manager.
The people who think Cox is such a great manager do not watch him do his thing on a regular basis. If they did, they would be disabused of their glowing opinions of his managerial ability.
Poopy pants, wait til carroll’s on the beat. Shes the closest thing to an ivy league grad we’ve got around here. Us sec kids were beer, boys, and football majors.
blazon – I have only met Heyward a couple times but he is a good guy. I was amazed at how humble, nice, and cool he was when I met him considering all the accolades he is given. I can’t wait to see him take the majors by storm
All I know is we have a good pitching match-up against the Dodgers and then tackle our division from there. This team has too much potential and too many mathimatical possibilities left this year to give up on them. If they fumble the rest of the month then there may not be much left to root for, but we’re not there yet.
DOB, will please ask Bobby why he is unnecessarily overworking the bullpen? Atlanta has three relievers in the top 4 in games pitched. Moylan tied for 1st, Gonzo and O’Flaherty tied for 4th.
MEMO TO KOJAK PENDLETON: What’s with the Tootsie Pops on the bench? If you ever get a managerial gig I’d hate to see you choke on the stick on your way out to argue a call!
I know you’re all happy the team is hitting. . . but find something a little healthier. You don’t want to go down the Tony Gwynn route….

And for goodness sake, don’t boo that ‘roided up member of the Jamaican bobsled team. I hate to used the term ARMED AND DANGEROUS, but anything’s possible.
