I agree with you on the movie thing. It’s just so much easier to catch a matinee these days. No waiting in line and you can watch the movie in peace.

Prince doesn’t have in contact because basically Cecil gambled away all of his money and then abandoned his family. I think there was an article in Sports Illustrated a couple of years ago……..I agree that you can’t go into the other team’s clubhouse but I also think that the Dodgers are completely wrong for thinking that it’s ok to hit someone when your up by 13 runs. That’s adding insult to injury and then to do it with 2 out in the 9th when you don’t have to worry about a response is kind of cowardly don’t you think?

Lowe has been a good but not great pitcher this year, and his numbers aren’t likely to improve in the next few years. Pitchers generally don’t get better with age. It’s not that he’s pitched poorly it just that his contract is huge, and he’s on the wrong side of 35. With the kind of money he’s getting you have to expect more, and it could certainly be better spent elsewhere.

The Braves haven’t eaten bad contracts in the past, but we’re in a new Frank Wren era. Mr. Suspender’s track record may not count for much here. And besides, the Braves haven’t had many bad long term contracts to deal with before either.

The Braves are gonna have to find a big out field bat, and closer this offseason if they really want to contend next year. I know they’ve got some money coming off the books, but some of the younger players will also likely get raises. The money for that bat and a closer has got to come from somewhere, and moving Lowe would free up a lot of money.

And have seen the Boss twice – the last time at Gwinnett for The Rising – old and new stuff was great – so kudos to him for still rocking at 60….not there yet, but I can see it a lot clearer than I could 5 years ago…

Gotta a funny story from last night… we went and saw my grandad in the hospital after his back surgery and with him being a huge Braves fan he wanted to know if they won the last few games. Yeah, I said, and the first thing out of his mouth was, “DAMN, they piss me off, they traded Kotchman because of money!” Now he was pretty doped up on pain killers so he was pretty delusional, but he loves his team. He also said that LA would woop our butts because Torre can out manage Bobby any day. Anyways, I thought it was funny.

I don’t agree with what the Dodgers did either but it’s just odd how Prince reacted AFTERWARDS. I was watching clips of when he got hit and then him on base and he actually seemed kind of amused. Not sure what caused him to snap afterwards. Then, in interviews he went onto say he didn’t remember the incident.

I asked DOB that question long ago (and got no response), as well. My question/opinion is that if Coverdale is “cool” enough for Jimmy Page to do and album and tour with, he certainly can’t be all that bad right?

I’m not denying the cheesiness of a guy like Coverdale. But I remember reading some pretty impressive quotes about his singing ability from Jimmy Page. That’s good enough for me.

Wild Card matchups this weekend:

Giants off today then 3 with the Reds – leader
Rockies lost today then 4 with the Cubs – 1 GB
Cardinals off today then 3 with the Pirates – 2 GB
Marlins lost today then 3 with the Phillies – 5GB
Braves play 4 with LA – 5 GB
(honorable mentions: Brewers: 6, Astros: 7, Mets: 8.5)

Giants and Cardinals look to have the weekend advantage, Rockies/Cubs could go back and forth, Marlins might be faltering a bit, and the Braves surprise you every game

Chicago Cubs prospect pitcher who injured fan sentenced to 30 days in jail

DAYTON, Ohio – A judge has ordered a minor league pitcher to serve 30 days in jail and three years’ probation for injuring a fan when he threw a baseball during a melee in Dayton last year.

Twenty-two-year-old Julio Castillo, a Chicago Cubs prospect, had faced up to eight years in prison. Montgomery County Judge Connie Price said Thursday she believes Castillo is remorseful.

She also ordered Castillo to get anger management counselling, write an apology to the fan, stay employed and work toward a high school equivalency diploma.

Castillo was pitching for the visiting Peoria Chiefs when a brawl broke out in the game against the Dayton Dragons.

The native of the Dominican Republic told the judge through an interpreter he was sorry.

So i was really bored earlier and decided to take a look at our bullpen statistics… specifically Moylan.

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it, and i’m sorry if many people have been talking about this… but i was kinda shocked to see how impressive Moylan’s numbers have been since May.
And while, yes, he had a rough patch toward the all star break in colorado and washington, his stuff has been particularly impressive… which kinda surprised me, considering how much negative press he receives among a few of the bloggers here (Lentz comes to mind).

And since the all star break, he’s been even better… Yes, he had a rough inning against San Francisco, but as I recall nothing went really well for the Braves in that game. but here’s how he’s done since the All Star Break…

10 2/3 IP, 2 Runs, 0 ER, 7 Hits, 0 Walks, 12 K’s… Not bad at all.

once again, sorry if people have already mentioned this

I was always under the impression that many of the Braves top prospects were kept in AA simply because it was closer and the facilities were so much better then the ones in Richmond- (CBF)

to an extent you are right, but they are also referring to the fact that some highly regarded prospects jump past AAA and go directly to the bigs and that some teams use AAA as sort of a holding pen for someone they might need during a season. However not all that many guy spend no time in AAA and likely 20 players on the roster are better than the corresponding 20 on an AA roster. Even with the new Braves setup we might still see a few guys jump from AA to the show, but most will make a stop in AAA.

AAA is a placeholder for the majors, an NFL taxi squad…..i.e. “We have no spot open for you at the moment” for the ones that still possess the prospect tag (Tommy P)

and 80%+ of those “placeholders” are better than the guys at AA whatever you wanna call them. Sounds like you’re quoting some articles you read from some theoretical baseball writers. I’ve been there and done that. AAA is better overall, and way better as far as giving young hitters experience at hitting breaking balls. 2 great players on a team do not make up for the difference in quality of the rest of the roster. oh well…

I was responding to the fact that you had said “Wait until he has 100 ab’s…”. Well, he is almost there, and has over 100 PA’s. So that’s not good then? OK. Tell me when he has enough PA’s to evaluate him, then. Apparently he has gotten Wren’s attention, who is most likely a better judge than either of us.

And comparing apples to oranges does not impress me, either. Chipper hit .248 at what, age 32? In an injury plagued year? After 9 years of consistent, sustained excellence? And what has he done since? And we are going to compare that to a kid, highly thought of, who gets called up to a higher league and immediately begins dominating said league? A league that has been proven to be a major jump, perhaps the biggest jump save the jump to the majors? I don’t think we can discount it. If you are waiting to see him rack up 500 PA’s in Pearl, don’t hold your breath.
