I think LaRoche should bat fourth, too (breaking news, people). Seems like a good plan…
So I cannot believe the game is on at 8 tomorrow…this means we have to wait till, what…6:30-ish for the lineup? Unfair…
August 1st, 20099:36 pm
WOW!!! The show is very cool. I just got into this show in the last 20 minutes after coming back from the Braves game and I see it is replayed at 12am and I think I will have to watch the whole thing.
As a History major and one who loves this stuff i like the way this program is doing this. Thanks for the heads up or I would never have found it.
I’ve always felt if it’s your time, it’s your time, no matter where you are. No need to worry bout flying, or much else for that matter; more apt to get it in a car anyway….
August 1st, 20099:37 pm
Same here on Alaska McFann. Would love to get up there one of these days.
August 1st, 20099:38 pm
If we traded a first basemen starter but gained a first basemen starter might mean in the end we saved a minor prospect or two for a reliever to be traded for in August.
Speculation talk at this point, but it’s something to think about especially if Adam helps in the offensive category and we didn’t have to trade prospects to get him.

I have basically the same feelings… Hence my decision to go white water rafter and SKY DIVING! I jumped from 13,000 feet in the air! Whew. What an adrenaline rush.
Forgot the comma after Bald Eagles in my last post. How embarrassing…
jus kiddin’…….we’ll let it go……this time!
August 1st, 20099:41 pm
Yeah…it’s beautiful up there from what I cann tell.
August 1st, 20099:42 pm
I know where there’s a Bald Eagle’s nest at the Rocky Mountain Wildlife Preserve, Nawth of Rome. Don’t have leave state to see them, if you know where and when to look.
Oh good…thank you! You had me worried there for a minute.
August 1st, 20099:43 pm
McCutchen should be a good player for the Pirates for a several years to come. If your the Pirates, the HRs are nice, but you don’t want that guy hitting a lot of fly balls with that speed.
August 1st, 20099:46 pm
Oh man…a nest would be so amazing to see! Gotta get out there some time…The cool thing about the Eagles is they go back to the same nest every year. Just keep adding on more stuff.
Ever heard one before? They make such a cute little sound! I’m pretty sure I heard one up in Yorktown, VA…or was that Jamestown, VA? I forget, one of those…
August 1st, 20099:47 pm
It’s kind of interesting. My wife is a University Administrator so she’s tied in to all of those college sites. Apparently there is a LaRoche College (very true), a Catholic University outside of Pittsburgh. Their President, Sister Ignatia is in mourning because Adam went south. Seems he did a good bit of charity and PR work for them and had developed a good relationship.
Would seem to me that this trade broke many wmoen’s hearts-for one reason or another.
Heath, you ever white-watered the Nantahala? Amazing whitewater rapids!

4000 posts – this has to be close to the record for this blog.
I’m glad Roachy is back. I was glad he got traded when he did, because we got one hell of a pitcher for him, and I was sick of reading comments here from some cracking on him. The guy has had his moments, (growing pains, mostly), but he can hit, and if he gets hot, he can REALLY hit. He’s a very good fielder, so I think this move could help for the remainder of the season.
Never heard a baby eagle McFann, would sure love to!
August 1st, 20099:55 pm
Oh, I bet a baby’s sound is adorable! The adults almost sound like babies.
I wanna hear a Wolf howl…I bet that is cool!
Haha, that’s funny!

I just watched the Field of Dreams. That has got to be the best baseball movie of all time. It is absolutely amazing.
August 1st, 200910:01 pm
Scalp Em-I’m kind of non caring about this trade. I’m not overly sorry Kotchman is gone-wouldn’t have minded if he stayed. I have nothing against LaRoche and if his presence ignites Him, Chipper and McLouth then it will have been a worthwhile move. If he only puts up Kotchman numbers power wise, we won’t be hurt. Lke I said. Ho Hum. Oh well.
The A Bomb
August 1st, 200910:02 pm
In a way I hope McCutcheon is the guy who FINALLY gets the Pirates going. . . 17 straight losing seasons. . . It would be great for baseball if teams like Pittsburgh and Kansas City had a winning season. Did you see Royals fans early this season when they were winning. Those fans are hungry and deserve good baseball…
Hell, look at the way we’re reacting and we’re going on four years out of the playoffs.
August 1st, 200910:03 pm
McFann-Got to hold a three month old Carolina Cougar (the four legged type not one from a reality show) and as cute as it was, it had really sharp claws and could have torn you apart if it so desired.
August 1st, 200910:07 pm
The A Bomb -
-The Steelers always win and have the most Super Bowls in history
-The Penguins usually win and have a bright future
I can live with them having more losing baseball.
August 1st, 200910:08 pm
So….if Roachy can’t be in Boston sitting on the bench then he’s glad to be in Atlanta playing every day?
August 1st, 200910:09 pm
We used to beat up billy bad-a$$ed bikers at this burlesque joint right down the street from The Switch. They thought us hippies were a buncha pushovers. We stole their girlfriends too. Mixxo
Who…me? Shoot, I’ve never even been on an airplane! – McFann :Ô:
Yikes! Say it ain’t so Ms. Fanny!
I gotta take you up sometime then. Nothin’ like it. Mixxo
The ammount and type of drugs that would cause one to steal a bikers woman should permanently exclude one from flying an airplane.
August 1st, 200910:10 pm
Lew, that is correct. I have friends that moved to the Pittsburgh area. They’re a couple of miles from LaRoche College.
August 1st, 200910:11 pm
In a way I hope McCutcheon is the guy who FINALLY gets the Pirates going.
Eh. They’ll trade him off next year.
I was just thinking today how sucky it must be to be a Pirates fan. I wonder how people even become Pirates fans in the first place. Oh well, at least they got the Steelers. And that hockey team.
August 1st, 200910:12 pm
Most impressive looking bird I’ve seen in the wild is a Barn Owl. Just massive size, and predators to the max. I love hawks too, and there’s plenty of them. Vultures are fascinating birds, kinda ugly and gross, but huge and very graceful in flight, even if it is in circles.
August 1st, 200910:13 pm
Shamus I would think a simple “Have a nice flight” would do nice but the videos ….ummm that ain’t right…
Being scared of dying in a plane crash is so far out there. We only see the ones that do happen and don’t realize the THOUSANDS a day going on each day on each hour.
I would say for those who worry about flying – it’s a great thing and your chances of dying in that is just about is good as getting hit by lighting in your front yard and yet you still go out there everyday.

I don’t know if this has been noted yet, but Craig Kimbrel has been promoted to Mississippi and Bryan Dumesnil has been released. Kimbrel threw two scoreless innings last night, striking out two while allowing 2 hits and a walk.
H/T Talking Chop.
I’m with Lew. The LaRoche deal is ho-hum. Though I though acquiring Gonzo was the right move, I regretted losing LaRoche. But given that Freeman is on the immediate horizon, and Kotchman was doing well, I don’t really see the point of re-acquiring LaRoche.
I know the spin about the chemistry, but… I don’t think it’s a season-changer.
August 1st, 200910:16 pm
We all have fears or phobias yes… but I guess it’s the one to confront that fear/phobia and see it’s not what it seems will make that person much better.
Let’s not do stupid things to confront those by all means OK?!
August 1st, 200910:18 pm
Pittsburghers have pretty much written off the Pirates. They are Steeler die-hards and Penguin die-hards, but can’t say the same about the Pirates. Most people go to the games because the stadium is one of the best in the majors; and it’s a good way to pass an evening.
But unless or until that team has a deep-pockets owner, it’s going to flounder.
Hey Heath, have they locked-up Rothlisfursterbargerburger yet? Didn’t he molest Chuck Knoll or something?
August 1st, 200910:19 pm
I think that is more like a sneer nolie
You’re probably right…he only scowls and sneers.
August 1st, 200910:21 pm
Andrew McCutchen !
I like that guy. Can’t wait for the Bucs to wanna get rid of him too.
Nice interview w/him just now on MLBtv.
August 1st, 200910:23 pm
Regarding the Trade…. we all know that Boston picked up the difference in salary. I can’t see why anyone is bent out of shape on this. To me it’s an apple for an apple one is a contact hitter, one has more power. Both are more than solid fielding.
LaRoche was popular in the Braves Clubhouse and I’m glad he’s back. I can’t see this as a negative move and if anything we can fall back on his 2nd half numbers over the past years can only help us.
For those who love to deal with numbers I think it was worth the deal.
August 1st, 200910:24 pm
Shamus – I’ve seen an owl one time in my life, I was surprised by how big it was. Maybe it was a barn owl, no barns around here though. It was on the cable wire that connects from my house to the pole at the street. Anyway, I took out some garbage one night and I saw this big thing on the cable out of the corner of my eye and it startled me, I was like wtf is that!? It was the size of a cat, I’m not even exaggerating. Made my kids come out and look at it and everything lol.
August 1st, 200910:25 pm
You’re probably right
I tried to tell her, nolie.

The ammount and type of drugs that would cause one to steal a bikers woman should permanently exclude one from flying an airplane. – keylargo
Actually, we were just accused of it. Typical “biker ploy”….to pick a scrap with some skinny longhairs. They became some great fans of ours after that little brewhaahaa.
August 1st, 200910:30 pm
I don’t follow the Steelers enough to know. Until the 49ers get good again, I won’t even pay too much attention to the NFL. I grew up in KY, so the NFL is not as high on my list as it is for most Americans:
1.) UK Basketball…uhm no explanation needed.
2.) ATL Braves….a lot of family in ATL and they were always on TBS
3.) UK Football….college is more exciting that NFL
4.) SF 49ers….They were the most fun team to watch growing up in the 80s and 90s
5.) CLE Cavs….Didn’t follow NBA too much until I moved here to Cleveland because for the most part, it is pretty boring with people standing around watching the best players.
6.) COL BlueJackets…was in Columbus when they first came to the league. I never watched a game before them, but going to the game live is probably one of the best experiences…especially if you sit near the glass. When they check each other in to the glass, you feel the vibrations in your own body….pretty cool.
LaRoche would be better at the # 7 spot!
No Way I take McCann out of the 4 hole! TOO Good at that spot.
Anderson at 5 is doing very well – and Esco in #6 is great.
You place LaRoche at #7 and we have a dangerous line up!
Look at his career numbers – he is better in #6 & #7 slot.
Check it out!
August 1st, 200910:33 pm
8-5 Cubbies now… the 9th inning ain’t over yet in South Florida.
August 1st, 200910:34 pm
LaRoche would be great in the # 7 spot!
No Way I take McCann out of the 4 hole – TOO GOOD of a hitter there!
Good protection for Chipper!
Anderson at #5 is doing very well!
Esco at # 6 is hot at that spot!
LaRoche would really be dangerous at #7!
His numbers are so much better out of the 4 hole!
Chek the stats #6 & #7 hole he really shines!
August 1st, 200910:36 pm
cabravesfan – what did you eat for dinner? Steak here was excellent (you should try my chef)?
August 1st, 200910:37 pm
haven’t eaten yet…I am always up for a good steak cooked by someone that is not me
RHR, some owls, especially barn owls, can get huge. I mean the kind of huge that will take your breath away in awe.
August 1st, 200910:40 pm
Shamus – White water rafting is extremely fun … the Nantahala a good way to start. The knowledgeable staff up there are outstanding. Try the Chatooga next time that will blow your mind! It’s a thrill rush big time!
I hope Greg isn’t released soon (for obvious reasons ) But my comments about why players love playing for Bobby stand – and today, Bobby got rewarded for his faith in players he stands by. And if you are a Braves fan, today was an excellent day!:)
cabravesfan – how often do I have to stress the importance of an evening meal (and popcorn and brownies do not constitute such). I have no tutoring set up this coming Friday – I might just come out there and take care of you.
August 1st, 200910:42 pm
When I type “should I delete this?” at the bottoms of some of my posts, it’s because that’s what I’m actually thinking about.
And that’s what I actually just did…
like I have said- if you can find me…

I hope Greg isn’t released soon (for obvious reasons )
This is way over my head. What’s the obvious reason? I’m not dissing Greg at all, just wondered what the obvious reason was.
August 1st, 200910:46 pm
Y’all playing hide and seek or what?
August 1st, 200910:49 pm
Kevin Gregg trying to blow it for the Cubs.
Come on Kevin Gregg get this last out … GO Cubs GO!!!
August 1st, 200910:50 pm
Reminds me of our boys down there … what is with Florida???
August 1st, 200910:51 pm
Fish tie it!
Cubbies just blew it for us … tie GAME!!!
August 1st, 200910:52 pm
cabravesfan – that reminds me of a song by Stephen Sondheim – “If you can find me I’m here” – maybe someday you’ll hear it.
Damn Fish will probably win it here.
August 1st, 200910:54 pm
Would rather have Soriano than this Gregg bum …. thank goodness we have what we have.
At least he got out of it.
August 1st, 200910:55 pm
maybe someday I will

Thank you Lee!!! We needed that!
August 1st, 200910:58 pm

36,000 fans in Miami tonight….22,000 of them are probably Cubs fans.
August 1st, 200911:03 pm
They even started the Go Cubs Go Song with 2 out last inning… very funny. In Miami WGN wants them to be heard.
Cubbies have to be OUR FRIENDS here. GO CUBS GO!

Looks like the Phils will lose in SF. 2-0 Gints in the eighth.
August 1st, 200911:08 pm
Kevin Gregg is plain awful.
Too bad the Rockies won .. but the rest losing or lost is a nice thing to end a great day for us.
August 1st, 200911:09 pm
Are William and Harrison your sons?
When I see Saltalamacchia’s name on the back of his jersey…it just looks odd…it is too long. He should have them put his first name on the back or just Salty. They put Ichiro’s first name on his jersey…
August 1st, 200911:13 pm
Looks like the Padres are playing well right now… currently on a 4-game win streak and leading in tonight’s game. Good. Get your winning out of the way now so we can go into San Diego and sweep ya!
Packerman – to the best of my knowledge I have no sons – but I am clearly missing something – feel free to explicate.
August 1st, 200911:15 pm
Sorry, just thought I might know you. You mentioned tutoring, and I know a guy that lives in Vinings whose wife owns a tutoring company. Didn’t mean to waste your time.
August 1st, 200911:17 pm
I hope you know I was not being serious about your post about the Bikers. I am pretty sure a Biker woman was involved the first time a man cut off his arm to get away without waking up someone he picked up the night before, though.
Packerman – not a problem – I thought maybe I was missing a joke. Not wasting my time (unlike certain young ladies out there).

Phillies can score against good pitching
well, if you feel that way…
August 1st, 200911:19 pm
cabravesfan – and there you are throwing Buffett titles at me (Someday I Will) – I am suuuure that was intentional .
Derek Lowe seems to somehow get wins he doesn’t deserve. Javier Vazquez: Just the opposite.
August 1st, 200911:21 pm
Forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but when Fox did their open this afternoon, I think the guy’s name was Chris Rose or something. As he was talking about the three games on Fox, he said lets go on down to the DIRTY south. Whats up with that?
August 1st, 200911:23 pm
There singing GO CUBS GO ..GO CUBS GO!!!! Thank you Cubbies!
cabravesfan – as if you didn’t know how I really feel…
CHICAGO 9 FLORIDA 8 F-10
SAN FRANCISCO 2 PHILADELPHIA 0 FINAL
We got the better end of the deal with LaRoche, I think. Kotchman will more than likely be traded in the offseason by Boston just like they probably wouldn’t have resigned LaRoche. So, who gives their team more right now? Unless the Sox plane on just keeping Casey around for awhile, this trade makes no sense for them. But we’ll take it.
August 1st, 200911:24 pm
As it stands now, the Braves are seven games behind the Phils.
The Braves also pick up a game on the Marlins. Unfortunately, the Giants’ win over Philly keeps them tied with the Rockies, who are four games ahead of the Braves in the wild-card. The Cubs’ win over the Marlins keeps them three games ahead of the Braves in the wild-card.
The Braves didn’t really make up much ground tonight.
August 1st, 200911:25 pm
Brightside, you’ve never heard the slang “dirty south”? It’s not an insult. Rappers from Atlanta have been calling it the that for awhile.
August 1st, 200911:29 pm
You know, with that GO CUBS GO song, I don’t know what makes me more sick. . .
(a) The lyrics (b) The tune
(c) Length of song (d) The overly white-skinned midwestern women exhibiting way too much of
their winter coats
TnBrian – I think most agree with you Boston gets Kotchman as a backup defensive guy for the long run. We get back a guy who was popular in the clubhouse and much more pop with the bat, not to mention one of our own guys.
Boston got VMart so they are happy … we … well get a guy back from a trade that looks pretty good as of today.
LaRoche aint shabby .. nothing to shout out about but a guy that we know does good things in the 2nd half of every season.
At least the guys get the HUNTIN’ Trips much easier this offseason.. is that funny? I don’t think so but it is what it is.
August 1st, 200911:30 pm
refresh quit working I suppose or I’ve been banned……I don’t know.
Posts not going through.
August 1st, 200911:32 pm
Well, whaddaya know….. it works!
keylargo….I’ve tried three times to respond to ya w/o any luck. We’re cool man!
Yes Jim, I was talking to y’all. What’s this if you can find me? lol give him your address, woman!
Looks like the Phils will lose in SF. 2-0 Gints in the eighth.
Is this your first Phillies game? 8th? Pshhh. Phillies win by a touchdown.
