HAHA, you people are too uptight, really are. If anyone is Lame its you sitting here on a blog taking everything someone says so seriously. You people need to go outside and get a life.
“3rd Those dogging on KK are NOT smart about baseball. In 19 starts KK has only given up more than 3 earned runs 4 times. That’s right, 15 of 19 starts with 3 earned runs or less. If you don’t think that is worth 8 million on the FA market then you are hollow between the ears.”DOB the Joke
Yeah. But in only 9 of those 19 starts has he lasted 6 innings or longer. One could argue that giving up 4 runs per start, but getting into or past the 7th inning more often than not, would be more valuble to the team than allowing fewer runs, and not lasting. Thus saving the bullpen for later in the year.
On the flipside, my whipping boy Javier Vazquez has NOT gone 6 innings or beyond, only 3 times in 22 starts. Lowe has gone 6 innings or more in 16 of 22 starts. JJJ has gone 6 or more in 17 of his 22 starts, and young Tommy Hanson has lasted 6 innings or more in 6 of his 9 starts.
Make no mistake. KK is as responsible for taxing this bullpen as anybody. I will agree that while in the games he’s pitching, KK ususally gives us good innings. He just doesn’t last long enough.
The guy has middle relief, spot starter written all over him. Or 5th starter. And a team with a 96 million dollar payroll can’t afford to spend 8 million dollars on their 5th starter.
BTW: For those that listen to Jim Rome, he is GOING OFF on Hohn’s “fist–bump” the other night. Calling it disgraceful. Asking: “What’s next? Why not walkout and give high fives to all of the Marlins on the mound?”
Rome is a little over the top and kind of a blowhard, but when you agree with him, he’s damn funny.
BravesFanChris24, just because a team improves doesn’t necessarily mean that team got significantly better than even a team behind them in the standings. The team ahead that made moves a) could have just received marginally better players and b) the team ahead could have overperformed for most of the year or the team behind could have underperformed for most of the year or both.
I believe you. My whole point is you kind of went of for no reason. He actually went out of his way to not “discredit your sources.”
Anyway, I don’t see anything happening and I am perfectly happy and content with that. I still want to play for this year but with what we have. I hope for a serge and some good baseball out of the boys the rest of the way. I will continue to live and die with each pitch but at the same time it will be easier to take in the long run while looking at the future.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Nate McLouth but I understand what he is. He is a .250-270 hitter with 20-25 HR power. He will also steal about 20 bases. You don’t need a team of 9 superstars. I am a Jason Heyward junkie and would call hom up now. He, Escobar, and McCann are the stars for the current and future.
As far as Jordan Schafer is concerned in my eyes, we did not see the real Schafer this season. He did not K much in Spring Training or the first week of the season until he hurt his wrist. I think he can be a .280 12-15 HR 30 SB guy which is what we need because we lack a true leadoff hitter. I love our future OF. McLouth-Schafer-Heyward.
David O’Brien emailed me and said that he took care of the person who earlier today was using my name to make fake postings. Hopefully this wont happen again.
N8, you make good points. KK needs to go deeper the longer he is in the league or it will be considered a bad acquisition. I am still giving him a pass cause it is a new league, rotation schedule, etc.
Some quotes I read on here though make him sound like Oliver Perez. That he is not.
That’s not the point. I understood what you are saying when you said you just said getting.
My point is how you went off on others for implying you meant via a trade, when in fact, you said it in a vague way to where it was easy for someone to imply it that way.
I wasn’t discrediting you or your sources, I just thought it was via trade because of the way you vaguely said it.
It’s all good, just was concerned that I didn’t make myself clear. She was cool…never would have thought I would end up in a baseball GM’s home…very coincidental. I decided to quit my job and take a fun job over the summer while I was looking for a more permanent type of position that didn’t make me travel all around the globe anymore. (I did take the DirecTV job because of the lonely housewives, though… (or girlfriends).
In all seriousness, I can not believe how comfortable many of those women were around me! I see less skin on “Skinamax”!
wheelz007
I think the Wren just pulled a fast one over on the G Braves
I gotta think if those players the G Braves are getting don’t work out they might not be dealing with Atlanta ever again. Hudson AND Infante for Valdez and Norton/Kelly … wow
wheelz007 – Don’t the G Braves already have Valdez? My memory isn’t what it once was, but I could swear I watched him pitch the same night Hudson pitched his last rehab start.
Cleveland fans may be a little upset right now, but it’s worth giving Shapiro the benefit of the doubt right now, he hasn’t ever really been fleeced in any of his trades. He almost always gets the better end of the deal. Cleveland has the 2nd lowest attendance in baseball, I think. It’s really bad in Cleveland with the state of Ohio, and the city of Cleveland in particular, far above the national unemployment average. The team stinks and fanc can’t afford tickets, so, it makes sense what Shapiro is doing.
DOB the Joke, I don’t mind KK. In the 90’s he would have been perfect for the back end of our rotation. However, if healthy, I’d take Hudson (even at the higher salary) over him next year. And even though I’ve not been the biggest Vazquez supporter (still think we could get a ton for him in a trade), a rotation of Lowe, Vazquez, Hudson, JJJ and Hanson in 2010 would be the best in baseball, 1-5, imo. Maybe not 3 HOF/Cy Young candidates like the 90’s, but possibly our best 1-5 rotation Atlanta has ever seen in it’s deepness and inning eating ability.
But who knows? You might be right. Next year with a year of adjustment under his belt, KK might be one of those guys as well. He’s got good stuff, just needs to command it better, and get deeper into games.
Dont you guys realize that Frank Wren made 2 significant moves to improve the bench recently? Right before the All-Star Break, Greg Norton was activated. Last Thursday, Kelly Johnson came back from his rehab assignment.
These guys had great years last year and should be counted on to duplicate that success in the second half.
(uh……..do you guys think that I really believe that nonsense?)
Agree ROME is NOT burning. But nothing funny behind the implications of a fist-bump between the ump and one team over the other at any time let alone at the end of a victory for the home team. BILLY HOHN should be banned by MLB for life.
MixxoYes it was Jerome on the field IIRC. Just a short bit, but with intensity.
OK, thanks. I’ll check foxsports.com again late and maybe it’ll be up. They usually post the interviews (or, they’ve done quite a few of them), but like I said, they prob’ly won’t do it this time…
Do the Yanks have anything locked and loaded to respond?
Anyone watching the MLB Network. Great show. John Hart and Duquette giving great perspective on what’s happening for the GM’s today. Better than listening to those clowns on ESPN.
Bowden is better than Masterson. He has a almost sidearm motion. He has good strikeout number, but a hit per inning does not scream filthy stuff. LH hitting .313 against him.
Teams don’t give away top prospects anymore. Theo did a good job again.
However he will never live down the Julio Lugo signing
So no Braves rumors on the trade front and nothing on anyone going to the DL even though we now have 3 injured players, a has been on the bench in Norton, and a couple never will be’s playing up the middle?!
Sounds like Tommy, Derek, and JJ need to pitch consecutive shutouts this weekend against a very good hitting Dodger team :-/
If Wren stands pat and Braves don’t make it, it’ll be a sad thing, especially if there was a move however small it was he could have done that would have worked and given them that push to make it.
Plus Hal Reynolds gives a no holes barred players perspective. He saying while this is a good trade for the Sox there is some fall out. Francona has to deal with Lowell, Varitek and Laroche all of who will lose some if not a lot of playing time. Real world stuff.
Agree w/ that assessment…listening to Olney and Kurkjian blab on and on about how much they don’t know and then Gammons talk all day long about the Red Sox gets real old after awhile…
I just wish they’d all stop talkin about Roy…I think if he was gonna go, he would have went by now! That and the Phils are out…
No prob Nova Scotia Steve….if you’re in a group joining mood (although it seems nobody really cares much about groups anymore) you can also join the McCann’s Cans group I made. I completly forgot about it until I saw it when I went to look up the URL for the blog group. Guess it needs some updating….last time I touched it was when he signed that contract extension. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=2228821447
Do you live in Nova Scotia now? I lived there for about year, but I couldn’t tell you where or anything about it because I was about 5 when it happened. We only stayed for a few months before moving back to the south for good.
Rob from SC, Theo’s JD Drew signing wasn’t exactly the best either…nor his Eric Gagne trade…don’t get me wrong, Theo is a good GM, but his mistakes aren’t magnified as much as some others…
I hear ya man. My girlfriend is on me all the time about having to watch the Braves. Oh well..
Keep up the posts so I don’t have to say anything. Long live Escobar and Heyward.
P-Town Brave – I’m not sure the Halladay thing is done. He has a lot more value now then he will in the off season. Essentially because he’s publicly stated he’s going FA after next year. I’d pay a lot more for two shots at a WS with him then just one next year.
our bullpen is absolutely horrible.
who do we have??
acosta…….stinks
moylan……has given up more games than everybody except maybe bennett
gonzo..,..,like a box of chocolate.
we have medlen who is pretty good and oflaherty who is marginal
so does this look like a pen that needs to stand pat.
Sources: Dodgers making run at Padre stars — 2:48 p.m.
Even with Indians catcher Victor Martinez headed to the Red Sox, there is still a possibility that the Padres will trade first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.
The Dodgers are making runs at both Gonzalez and Padres closer Heath Bell, either separately or in a blockbuster, according to major-league sources.
If the Dodgers acquired Gonzalez, they presumably would send first baseman James Loney to the Padres or trade him somewhere else.
I saw Springsteen at Bonnaroo. About an hour into the concert he started talking about building houses of love and sexual healing. I left out of fear that he wanted to hump me. I’m not a big Springsteen fan, though.
Speaking of Kelly Johnson, while I was trying to fall asleep last night, i was thinking about why Kelly Johnson sucks so bad at defense. I think I figured it out. He has terrible hands. Before you disagree, when he plays watch how many balls hit him right in the glove then fall out. It happens even on routine plays. In all seriousness maybe he should try a bigger glove. Either way something needs to be done because he came very close to blowing another game last night.
Can anyone explain to me why we keep talking about getting a bullpen arm? Especially with Hudson coming back and either having him or KK added to said BP? I’ve been hearing that for a week now and just don’t get it.
That would be tough to accomplish without Kershaw ( better be off limits), and Chad Billingsley. James Loney would be included, James McDonald has a very good upside. And OF Andrew Lambo and SP Josh Lindblom. Ivan DeJesus SS is ok.
I think fans should cheer Furcal, and bring signs thanking him for staying with the Dodgers. Thanks to his greed and manipulation, we still have Escobar!
When you look at the Yankees offseason and now the Red Sox you really do get a good look as to why the NFL dwarfs MLB. I really do believe Selig is a Boston and Yanks fan and loves the rivalry ratings….to hell with everybody else. Someday, maybe a long time from now, the modern day Yankees/Red Sox rivalry will be looked at as a steroid induced, money driven business other than “just a fun rivalry”. It’s all about the money.
I’m not saying it should be for someone “worth while”, although it would be nice. Something small like an extra bullpen arm (which is needed) or an extra bat that could help in the stretch run that comes cheaply.
Something needs to be done to give an extra push. Yes, some players are coming back, but throwing all the eggs in their basket is quite frankly absurd unless they are sure things. Can you guarantee that they will be sure things?
P-Town Brave
“I agree there too as even a small deal will pump a club up and say, hey, our front office wants to make a go at this thing.”
Agreed. If the front office isn’t willing to get something done, it shows the players that it’s either you guys make it or no post season appearance and that’s not a good message to send.
It doesn’t have to be a great big deal. Just something to let the players know that we’ll get this or that done, we think with you guys and the extra help, we have a shot to make it.
That deal mentioned during the game between the Marlins and Padres would have been outstanding for the Padres. I knew the Marlins would have said no. Some scouts say Stanton has more upside than Heyward but much more risk involved. Maybin still has great potential.
I have to admit that Torre just showed up in LA and made them a power broker. I didn’t give him a lot of credit for his years with the Yanks. Have to admit he deserved more.
Canseco says there is now a Hall Of Famer who took steroids – probably talking about Rickey Henderson . They were together on the Oakand A’s when steroids were getting started in the late 1980s .
First baseman Adam LaRoche becomes expendable for Boston if they complete the Victor Martinez trade; Jon Heyman of SI tells us via Twitter that the Braves are interested. LaRoche came up with the Braves; they traded him to Pittsburgh for Mike Gonzalez in ‘07.

If the following players are off limits
Jason Heyward
Tommy Hanson
Javier Vazquez
Jair Jurrjens
Freddie Freeman
Jordan Schafer (injured)
Who can we trade to get anyone worth while.
Don’t even say Medlen and Jo Jo Reyes.

P-Town Brave – I’m not sure the Halladay thing is done. He has a lot more value now then he will in the off season. Essentially because he’s publicly stated he’s going FA after next year. I’d pay a lot more for two shots at a WS with him then just one next year.
Don’t count those freakin Yanks out on that yet.

acosta…….stinks
moylan……has given up more games than everybody except maybe bennett

we have medlen who is pretty good and oflaherty who is marginal

Sources: Dodgers making run at Padre stars — 2:48 p.m.
Even with Indians catcher Victor Martinez headed to the Red Sox, there is still a possibility that the Padres will trade first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.
The Dodgers are making runs at both Gonzalez and Padres closer Heath Bell, either separately or in a blockbuster, according to major-league sources.
If the Dodgers acquired Gonzalez, they presumably would send first baseman James Loney to the Padres or trade him somewhere else.

That would be tough to accomplish without Kershaw ( better be off limits), and Chad Billingsley. James Loney would be included, James McDonald has a very good upside. And OF Andrew Lambo and SP Josh Lindblom. Ivan DeJesus SS is ok.

It helps team psyche.

That deal mentioned during the game between the Marlins and Padres would have been outstanding for the Padres. I knew the Marlins would have said no. Some scouts say Stanton has more upside than Heyward but much more risk involved. Maybin still has great potential.
