I hope Esco is alright
We Have Guts Going Hurt into the series against the Dodgers…Not Good!
I think we lose 2 of the to the dodgers as Joe Torre will Out Manage Bobby, “Bank On It”!
This Series and the off day killed our momentum…
As It stands Right Now we Need Either Chipper or B-Macc to get “En Fuego!” and carry the team for 2 weeks or so…
We Need them to show out Bad during the stretch, And Especially since that we will not make any trades for a bat which we don’t need…
Agree with Wayne
Bobby has 25 of “his boys” on the roster. An example is the Dwayne Wise story from when he first joined the braves that was out about a week ago. Thats why players want to play for Bobby Cox.
Frank should sign me and my boy Reitsma for the stretch run
But one of those guys is Greg Norton! Yay!
July 30th, 20098:06 pm
Thats 6 strike outs so far and its only the 4th inning. Our offense seems to have slumbered yet again. And all it took was a visit to the Marlins. Ouch. FW better plan on doing something to this offense in the offseason, because tinkering isnt going to cut it. We need some major work. We need power at 1st and power in the outfield. Nate sure hasnt been anything special since coming over here. Hope that changes.
VandenHurk had but 7 Ks in 11 innings before tonight. Right now he has 6 in 4 innings
Wayne in Utah
Let’s see if JV has any cajones!
July 30th, 20098:07 pm
Hitting is fine, but no need to put men on base with a close game right now.
If I knew that neither Prado nor Ryan Church werent going to start tonight……and that Yunel was going to get hit by a pitch and have to leave the game, I would have went in a WAY DIFFERENT direction with my fantasy team tonight. I dont have much confidence in either Diory Hernandez or Kelly Johnson (despite his 5 for 6 streak) helping extend potential rallies.
Hopefully these 2 runs will hold up for Vazquez.
Co-Sign on your last post…
Our Pitchers Need to do “Brushbacks More”…Keep hitters who kill us like Soriano and Pujols Honest…
July 30th, 20098:08 pm
Tomahawkin, looking at your last post you capitalize some of the weirdest words in the weirdest places
On a night like tonight, all we need is a guy who is breathing, and can pick up and swing a bat. Norton will do just fine.
A little disappointed in JV for not sending a short message to their top dog.
July 30th, 20098:09 pm
wow, Carrabas has turned to actually interupting innings….hahaha
Rob from SC
We need a win tonight more than plunking Ramirez
July 30th, 20098:12 pm
Usually I say “ballgame” but with no Prado or Escobar, I’ll just say SEASON!
July 30th, 20098:14 pm
Matt’s always in “an 0-2 hole” WTF?
Bennett is finally gone. I liked the guy at first but there was definitely something wrong in that head of his. Hey at least we don’t have Corky Miller as our back up catcher and Wickman as our closer. Hohn might be a great guy off the field but he is being paid well to be a Professional on it and he ain’t getting the job done. Down with Hohn! When are we going to send Acosta back down? Great fastball but he always seems to give up runs in close games. Is Conrad here yet? Hernandez great glove, light bat! Church is fragile and 30. Francouer was durable and 25. Did we get the worse end of the deal? McLouth has never hit for average but he will steal you a base rarely get caught and can hit for some power. Pretty good range in CF but not sure about his arm strength? Do the Braves call up Heyward this August? I say if they are out of the Pennant race no way. Do we chance rushing him too soon like we did Frenchy? Can we bring McGriff or Galarraga out of retirement? I’m glad to see AJ hitting again in Texas. Always liked him but he would not have did that in Atlanta this year. Too much pressure and he’s where he needs to be! Is Texas the Midwest Braves now? heck they almost look like they are a farm team for us with all of our former players!
After further review from last night, Bobby did a great job not to have kicked Bill’s (ump) a@@. The ump should be waterboarded. Teach his a@@ some manners.
July 30th, 20098:15 pm
Anyone need a good umpire?
CrimeDog…………If Bennett wasnt one of “Bobby’s boys”, then why did Bobby Cox keep using a guy like Jeff Bennett in key 6th and 7th inning situations? Bennett has always been a BUM. Throws a very hittable fastball.
Frank Wren isnt a dumb guy. The reason why he didnt have success in his one year as GM of the Orioles was because he had an owner, Peter Angelos, who made the Ted Turner of the mid-80’s seem like a hands off owner.
From what I’ve been able to see of Frank Wren since he took over as GM of the Braves…….he is about making moves that will improve the Braves. Activating Greg Norton does not seem like a move that Frank Wren would “willingly” make on his own. Do you guys really think that Frank Wren believes that Greg Norton is going to “turn it around”? What logic was there in keeping Greg Norton over Brooks Conrad when Kelly Johnson was activated? Come on, lets be real here.
Lets go yard so Javy does not need to run the bases. NO No No on the bunt
July 30th, 20098:16 pm
…another thing we need more than a plunking…is for McLouth to get out of this slump.
It was great to see that the Braves released Jeff Bennett. He was a marginal pitcher at best. Who was called up to replace him on the roster? Or does this mean that a trade for a reliever is in the offering, ie,,,, Ron Mahay???
Any chance the Braves would package Medlan and Kotchman for Victor Martinez???
Escobar contusion above right wrist, no X-ray, day-to-day
Prado contusion above left ankle, no X-ray needed, day-to-day
McLouth is just a more expensive Schafer.
the hopes of the braves nation rest in your hands mr. hanson
July 30th, 20098:17 pm
nate needs a day off….but who would play for him?
I like Kotchman. Couple folks today said Prado should be moved to 1st, KJ to second. Prado’s hitting advantage over Kotch is not significant enough to make-up for the HUGE drop-off in 1st-base defense.
lose an Andruw gain an Andruw (McLouth)
Nate, you’re not gettin’ it done son. Just bad.
Nate goes for 4 Ks his next at-bat
Im with you on the waterboarding of BIll Hohn. BANG! BANG!
can’t wait for billy hohn fist pump bobble-head night
If Ryan Church wasnt hurt, I’d be in favor of giving McLouth a day off to clear his mind. He is not looking good at the plate right now.
Thats good news,,,thanks DOB
thanks DOB on the quick update on both of those guys! thats good news!
Before we all start drinking the Jim Jones Juice Mix lets wait and see if the injuries are serious or just day to day.
Yes, this will put a dampner on the Dodger series but we will have to have some guys step up for a few games until we get them back. This is wishful thinking of course. The other result obviously will be season over for sure.
Good Job Fletch. LOL
July 30th, 20098:18 pm
So basically what DOB is saying…bruises…
We can all stop holding our breath
Ryan Church can play center field
Thanks DOB … I should have refreshed before I typed that post.
July 30th, 20098:19 pm
Good for you DOB…you had it first!
Marc from FL
Hmm, my comment never posted.
Paul Lentz – I understand what you’re saying about Bobby’s “boys”, but I think you’re misreading it to be honest. We didn’t have a better solution at CF, so JS got a lot of chances, I think everyone in the Braves franchise was praying for Francour to get hot (Wren was counting on it), Prado was hurt and with Infante on the DL it was KJ or bust for a while. He did have a long leash with Bennett, and I don’t know why, for that matter, I don’t know why he ever made it to the majors to begin with, but hey, every team has a horrible reliever or two and many stay on the staff all year.
“”lose an Andruw gain an Andruw (McLouth)”"
Not exaquee. Andruw covered center like cudzu. McLouth is good out there, but no Andruw.
July 30th, 20098:20 pm
Frenchie’s up! Update forthcoming!
wow. two loafs on the left side…
I think Anderson took a bite of that guys hotdog before he threw it in
Why did Chipper just stare at that ball? That was pathetic. That is why we are a bottom feeder team.
July 30th, 20098:21 pm
I usually chat on Facebook Simultaneously while typing on the blog…
I gotta stop multi-tasking…
Jeff Bennett was put in those situations because the other alternative was an overworked Peter Moylan, who you hate just about as much as Bennett from what I can gather. You just can’t wave a wand and pull four all-star relievers out of a hat and put them in your pen.
damn….there goes the wild card.
OMG…are you hearing this Florida rumor of Bell and Gonzalez to the Marlins
YELLING…..LOUD NOISES…… MAD AT DOB
July 30th, 20098:22 pm
My mom knows very little about baseball, but she’s not nearly that ignorant about the sport (8:16 p.m.)
Wow the Marlins would be pretty sick if they got Adrian and Bell.
Are you hearing this?????? Heath Bell and AGonzalez to Florida? The Braves announcers are talking about this on the broadcast. They said its buzzing around the press box.
Man, another foot to the right and it would have got Hohn in the melon
I have Adrian’s Gonzalez Topps Traded Rookie Card, Yay!
“That is why we are a bottom feeder team”
and what do you call the Nats who are actually at the bottom?
Nova Scotia Steve
July 30th, 20098:23 pm
Nice grab Nate
Yes AJ was good but not anymore. Why keep on about AJ and JF….its over.
Good job Nate.
yeah! the braves release jeff bennett!
DOB please say this aint true!!! This would stink big time for us!!!!!
July 30th, 20098:24 pm
Just be happy we are not Pirate fans. I grew up in Western PA for the first 15 years of my life but I am totally ashamed at what that Ownership has done to it’s fans in Pittsburgh. It would be like if Rankin Smith decided to buy the Braves right now. Steelers win the Superbowl, Penguins win Lord Stanley and the Pirates play MLB yard sale again. I will always be a Steelers fan, Braves fan and while I follow the Pirates I will never cheer for them again like I once did. Watch out Javy is having his typical hiccup inning right now in the 5th. Ok maybe he will get out of it. Could you imagine if Hohn would have thrown Rocker out of the game?? Bring back Rocker for one game with that Mullett that he was rockin and let him take on Hohn in a no holds barred deathmatch!
Mike in LA
Goes to show you what those online fielding ratings are worth. Mcclouth has been solid in center since coming over. Defensive liability my a**
cabravesfan – have you made it home yet? Your Chardonnay is ready.
Frenchie – sac fly
Steve from OH
Boog’s a smart guy, but I would almost certainly move Adrian Gonzalez for Stanton, Maybin and Miller…
No way the Padres trade Adrian Gonzales.
July 30th, 20098:25 pm
i dont know about that adrian/heath bell rumor…. that would put them over the top in the wild card race imo. but mlbtraderumors says that are in good shape to land nick johnson…. so who knows?
just got home, poured a glass, turned on the game
But Boog, the Pads aren’t going to compete in 2010 or 2011 in all likelihood…
July 30th, 20098:27 pm
Is Vazquez a NL Cy Young Candidate????
July 30th, 20098:28 pm
He should be…
What would Kenny Powers do?
Braves need to score some runs here!!!!!
Ya know if the Braves can win tonight I might be a bit happy to face the Dodgers. They’re not scoring a lot (the Braves have good pitching) and they’ve lost 5 of their last 6. Plus the Braves played pretty good before going on the road (Milwaukee an exception of course).
If they can win tonight they might can win 3-4 in a row (and then they face the Padres after that)
WHy not put Paulino on 1st and pitch to the pitcher??? Javy gave a run away right there….
i like diaz but he sure takes a long time to transfer the ball out of his glove
Nice play McCann!!! Good short hop dig and nice throw to get Paulino!
July 30th, 20098:29 pm
MD needs to keep working with his P90X. Throw was way off line but Mr. Allstar may a great throw to second.
Anything fishy about Esco getting beaned, or just an accident?
Lol, giving up Maybin for Adrian Gonzalez? Even if that was a stright up the Marlins would be getting the short end of the trade, unless Maybin’s really gone downhill quick.
Weird that Joe and Boog mentioned that… I just wrote THIS!!!
Wow would that be an awesome deal for both the Pads and Marlins.
Adrian Gonzalez – 1B
Heath Bell – RP
Andrew Miller – SP
Cameron Maybin – CF
Mike Stanton – OF
July 30th, 20098:30 pm
i was thinking the same exact thing on that play. he seems to do it a lot for some reason. it looks as though he gets so nervous that he cant grab the ball correctly the first time….
UNC Brave, you want the pitcher to start the inning if possible, if the runner at the plate is the go-ahead run, then you pitch around him, but in the 5th inning you take your chances with the lead.
Why do we struggle with the Marlins???? We can beat up on the Phillies and Mets but we struggle with the Nationals and Marlins.
“Is Vazquez a NL Cy Young Candidate????”
Alot of people predicted he would be, and are looking smart right now.
Also any word on why Jeff Bennett “asked” to be released?
July 30th, 20098:31 pm
The Braves messed with the formula when they sent Conrad back down…. he added a big spark and now they are back to their normal 3 runs or less routine….
July 30th, 20098:32 pm
I hate KJ
Nothing has changed with KJ, worthless as ever.
Did Boog just say…..ahem…caulk???
Robert (Chipper Is The Best)
I know everyone is on the “we need a reliever” bandwagon but I will continue to say the Braves need another bat-one with power. I realize that is easier said than done but to me its a necessity. If that means trading Kotchman to get it then that is what has to be done in my opinion.
I know this will NEVER happen but it would be so nice to be able to net Victor Martinez.
Now that’s the Kelly that we’re accustomed to seeing. 0 for 3 so far.
July 30th, 20098:33 pm
I’ve said we need ANOTHER BAT for a LONG TIME
July 30th, 20098:34 pm
Dude, read DOB’s articles and you’ll know why Bennett got released.
It says very clearly that Bennett was tired of having to single-handedly screw up close games and didn’t feel like he could continue doing that at the pace he set earlier this year without some help. He was adamant that the Braves go out and pick up Bob Wickman.
The Braves declined, so Bennett asked for his release.
The Braves send No. 2-prospect, 1B Freddie Freeman, P Kris Medlen, LF-prospect Cody Johnson, and pitching prospect Julio Teheran to San Diego for Adrian Gonzalez and Closer Heath Bell.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
