BFIR-I’d still like to see a lot more from Nate before I pronounce it a successful trade.
The past couple of winters, I wish I had a buck for very time some Denizen claimed that what we needed to win was to pick up Casey Kotchman and Nate McLouth.
We’ve done so and we’re still arguing who else we need. Maybe we should have listened and gone and picked up CoCo Crisp and Rocco Baldelli, too. They’ve GOT to be the missing pieces, right?
Yeah…Betran once said, about the Braves, something to the effect that the Mets shouldn’t have let “these people” come into their (the Mets’) stadium and win the series, which the Braves had done.
ShamusYes [BMac is due against the Marlins] McFann, but I honestly feel like tonight is the night, for him and the Bravos.
Hudson may not be a reliver but neither was Randy Johnson but he pitched some big games in relief. More importantly that was the rumor that the braves weren’t looking so hard for relief because they thought they had their solution in asking Hudson to come back in relief (gets him back quicker)
1. Jeff Bennett is a free agent. Braves had suspended his pay after he broke his hand punching the wall, and Bennett filed a grievance. Braves had to either give him his pay or let him become a free agent, and they opted for latter option.
2. Players were shocked that Hohn fist-bumped the Marlins catcher after final out last night. Chipper said he’s never seen anything like that in 16 years in the majors, and he hopes the league reviews the tapes of the game and fines Hohn and announces he’s been fined, etc. Chipper said a guy umping like Hohn has against the Braves this season makes a player not want to play, because you feel like you’ve got no chance in that game. Cox had no comment, but it was apparent that he was quite taken aback by the incident, too.
And I just got Hohn as he was arriving at ballpark. He wouldn’t comment, because the crew chief told him not to. “There’s nothing there,” the crew chief said after I said I wanted to ask about the fist-bump. All Hohn would say was “No comment.” and “The league reviewed” the game and the incident.
3. Church is out of the lineup because his right elbow is nagging him, has been for a while, but acted up when he swung through a pitch on Friday. It’s his lead elbow, so he can’t drive the ball well with it sore. MRI showed only some inflammation, just needs rest. Diaz is in there.

Oh, and Bobby wouldn’t comment on it, but Hohn had the lineup card out because he said he was going to throw someone out and didn’t know who, because he’d heard someone shout from the dugout and didn’t know who it was.
As I type this, Prado is being helped up after getting hit, I think, by a line drive during BP. Looks like he got hit in the ankle, he’s limping off the field now on his own, but with trainer at his side. So we’re probably gonna have another lineup change
Who’s the crew chief? Guess that kinda makes sense for him to tell Billy the Kid not to comment…Int’resting stuff from Chipper, too. I hope they fine that guy! And if they do, yeah, we better hear about it!
Prado dinked by a ball in the ankle… what a break for Kelly Johnson. Hope Kelly has been taking a little extra fielding practice. Oh, and where have you gone Brooks Conrad?
“But really monty you think this guy should be in the rotation over Tim Hudson????”
What kind of durability and results are you expecting from Hudson in his first 8 or 10 starts back from such a serious surgery and long layoff? I certainly dont throw him out there every fifth day from the get go thinking he;s gonna be an automatic seven innings
Let’s see what Hudson has when he actually gets back against live major league hitting, maybe in a start, maybe in a relief appearance, and then assess which guy serves the Braves best in the rotation the rest of the year
So the Dodgers, Cards, Phillies, Giants and Cubs improved their teams while the Braves did nothing. I guess they feel they are out of it already. I can’t say I blame them.
Taken straight from the MLB.com, thought this had some neat stats (nothing too special though)
“Tidbits
Jair Jurrjens posted his 15th quality start of the season on Tuesday night. The Braves rank fourth in the Majors with 59 quality starts. Last year, they ranked 20th with a total of 75. … Anderson has homered in the first two games of this series and four times since the All-Star break. He had just five homers in the 67 games he played before the break. … The Braves have allowed a Major League-low 68 homers this year. The writing is on the wall Ma’am. A win tonight will make for a nice July ……..anyway.
Piggy backing Kawakami & Hudson makes sense. Let Kawakami pitch the first few innings say through 5 and let Hudson finish it off and vice versa. That way not over using Hudson and since he’s not likely to go to the BP .
Except that his SB% is around 70% meaning he costs you runs on the basepaths, and his power and OBP decrease badly away from AZ and against righties. No lineup change, but somewhere in Land Shark Stadium, a 68-year-old man is sitting in an office smoking a Cuban cigar, smiling. . . for his adopted son can return to his designated role.
David O’Brien………….Finally, some good news in the “get rid of the bums” department. Jeff Bennent is no longer a Brave. Way to go Frank Wren. Dude slammed his fist into the wall. That is a non-baseball related injury. Braves management has every right to refuse to pay him.
One BUM down, a couple more to go. Nice job Frank Wren.
And I agree with Efrim and Chop Chop on the Pirates. I agree that I would’ve kept McLouth, but I see this as a complete rebuilding and more of a Neil Huntington is cleaning house and starting from the ground up to make it his club the way he wants it type thing.
All of this “the Braves did nothing” stuff is absolutely astounding to me. They did nothing but replace 2/3 of their outfield this season! Some folks act as if Frank Wren has to make moves when other GM’s make moves or he hasn’t done anything. You rarely see a team change their whole roster within the season. Is that what you want?
Can’t blame Chipper for being frustrated and feeling defeated because players have no control over an umps actions other than screaming and yelling only to get thrown out of a game. But, saying it makes him not even want to play? I think he could’ve used a better choice of words. The man has all the talent in the world to overcome a prick like Hohn.
That Prado to Padres rumor had better be false or I might go and hit a wall or something. Wren can’t be that stupid. Bell is a good one but Prado is too important to this team. No way that’s true.
Paul Lentz…so now you’re second guarantee has proven to be wrong. You have been saying all along that Bennett would be back out there blowing games for the Braves. You also said that KJ would come back and destroy the team. You are now 0-2.
DOB, I hope this was just Ol Billy being surprised last night and hoping it was just his natural reaction to fist him back.
BTW DOB, I wrote about you in my blog yesterday. I have attached the link. It deals with ESPN branching out to big cities (ESPN-Chicago for example). But basically, just wanted to say I appreciated all the work you do to keep us Braves fans up on whats going on.
I liked the way the Braves handled the Jeff Bennett issue and thank goodness I never have to see him pitch again.
On HUDSON, getting 6 innings out of him is more than what KK is giving us….KK is too expensive for a reliever. Trade him for a bat in the off-season if not now…
Given that the East German swimmers were ‘roided out of their Brains in the mid 1970s (remember Cornelius Ender etc) and Ben Johnson, Flo-Jo etc were roided and uppered out of their minds in 1988 what makes us think that PEDs were not part of baseball in the late 80s and early 90s, as testing back then was non existent and even the sports that did test had very rudimentary knowledge of the problems
There HAS to be a statistical likelihood that several hof inductees were NOT clean
What does this team need worse? Bullpen help or offense? If a trade is going to be made- and I don’t think Atlanta should make a deal- it had better be for a BIG bat! I’m about to take a baseball bat to my computer while a picture of Frank Wren is posted on it! Sorry for the meltdown.
Oh, and for the Nate complainers, Remember Jordan Schafer. Remember a strike out every 2.65 AB’s. Just remember those times. How about this, We essentially traded Charlie Morton, Jeff Locke and Edgar Renteria for Nate McLouth and Jair Jurrjens.
That wasn’t the lineup card Hohn pulled out. . . He was writing the date and time Bobby and him would face each other in a duel with pistols near Dodge City, Kansas.
Well, Lew maybe I’ll just do that. You go get your box of Twinkies and smoke you some good reefer so you’ll be fooled into thinking you’re watching a competetn manager. Just dont set any of your food stamps on fire
Braves 326, whats wrong with giving him a start is the lackadasical attitude he brings and the games he’s cost the Braves in the standings the last two years as a result of it. KJ, Laroche, and Francouer all the same if you ask me. All have talent but no heart.
Shamus-You’re ticked Bobby won’t play Kelly and half the rest here are ticked he IS playing him. No way in hell the Dude can win. Damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. Robert’s already working himself into a lather.
Robert..so you think that the entire front office of the Braves has been tricked by Bobby Cox? They all are too dumb to see that Bobby is a bad manager? That is essentially what you have been saying.
No, Prado isn’t untradeable but the Braves don’t need an average relief pitcher worse than they need a hitter. If you’re going to do that, why not trade for Kevin Kouzmanoff? I don’t like him, but you see the point.

1. Jeff Bennett is a free agent. Braves had suspended his pay after he broke his hand punching the wall, and Bennett filed a grievance. Braves had to either give him his pay or let him become a free agent, and they opted for latter option.

Braves 326, whats wrong with giving him a start is the lackadasical attitude he brings and the games he’s cost the Braves in the standings the last two years as a result of it. KJ, Laroche, and Francouer all the same if you ask me. All have talent but no heart.

No, Prado isn’t untradeable but the Braves don’t need an average relief pitcher worse than they need a hitter. If you’re going to do that, why not trade for Kevin Kouzmanoff? I don’t like him, but you see the point.
