Chipper and Mac have both been a bit disappointing. Not doing badly, but also not doing as well as expected.
That’s the truth. I’m starting (”starting”?) to get agitated with them a little bit…what’s the freaking deal, anyway?
If and that’s a mighty big if MLB has any integrity at all, they will have to discipline Hahn. There is no place in the game EVER for an umpire to fist bump a player. The truth is that Wren has tried to do the best he can with the funds that have been given him. The real problem with the Braves is the ownership group that refuses to spend what it takes to truly field a contender.
Don’t you agree that the Braves have to do something to at least show the fans that they want to go for it this year? The last couple of games have looked like the first half of the season and is a reminder that these Braves can fall on their face at any moment and fall completely out of contention. What do you think?
As long as Arrieta, Tillman, and Matusz turn into above average pitchers, the Orioles will be a very good young team. They just need a young shortstop and they will be set for the near future
There was a day when players couldn’t fraternize on the field before games. That’s gone. It was really not acceptable to fraternize during the game either. If it was done it was very discreetly. Today it’s outwardly acceptable. How many times do you see the guy on first watching the signals at third while talking with the first baseman? Then he turns to the 1st base coach to confirm what he thinks he saw or the coach whispers it in his ear. I see this all the time.
David Wright appears to be running for mayor over on third. He pats everyone who arrives. Chats them up etc..Listen, I know their all friends or acquaintances but theior used to be a more professional modicum on the field then what we see today. And this isn’t about sportsmanship.
My point is the one fist pump (while unnacceptable in my eyes) isn’t much different then whats going on all over the field all night.
I will not back down guys. Kawakami has been all we could have asked for as our 5th starter. He had a bad month in April, has been shaky, but basically well above league average for a 5th starter since Hanson came on the sceen.
Last night he sucked. Don’t know what to tell ya. Lowe sucked for a few games. Jurrjens had 1-2 bad games. Vazquez, early in the year, was catching a lot of crap due to losing it 1 inning in almost every game he threw.
He just didn’t have it last night. Whether is is hurting or not, he says no. Is he worth 7 million per year? Not MY 7 million. Heck, Prado ain’t worth MY 400K either.
But, sometimes you pay the going price.
I just have vivid memories of last years starters, after the main crew went down. It was Jurrjens, Campillo and pray for rain!
You guys can keep going on with your Kawakrappy bs, but I don’t think FW or BC are disappointed in the overall performance of him.
The last game before the trade deadline is not the right time to be buzzin heads with fastballs. I am not saying Baker deserves it, but this game is pretty important and we dont need Javy to be thrown out of anything. You can bet the other umps know the Braves are pissed and might be looking for them to retaliate.

Piedmont Blues – he should be driving in more runs in those situations. He, along with the rest of the team, needs to be better at getting runners over, as well as hitting sac flys, or getting runners in, while not getting hits.
Yeh he is a nice average with RISP, but he doesn’t get runners in UNLESS he gets a hit. You can have a lower average with RISP yet score more runs for you team, by making good outs.
Average isn’t everything with RISP and with Runners on 3rd with less than 2-outs.
Mitchie-san – not a plunk, but some chin music to let him know we didn’t miss it. This team needs the fire relit starting tonight and I couldn’t think of a better way.
On the other hand, it’s not something our staff usually does (if they have at all recently) so it’s a moot point I believe.
I didn’t see the fist pump. Did they pull away with the explosion spread of the fingers? THAT would be crazy. Hohn could have followed it with a one legged hop while holding one hand over his crotch.

It’s called a bad game. McCann had one, and so did Prado. It hurts when it’s the pitcher, though. He didn’t seem the same after the Johnson homer, did he? Maybe there is an injury that no one is talking about, because all of a sudden Hudson is back in the rotation when he gets back, when earlier talk had speculated him going to the pen.
do any of you guys remember the email address that jim powell gives out for the radio booth? its something like radiobooth@ whatever…. i cant remember what comes after @. any help?
I believe that Baker should get his tower buzzed by a Vazquez 2 seamer tonight. Anyone agree?
It’s times like this AND ONLY times like this that I long to see Jeff Bennett on the mound. An “Alfonso Soriano Buzz” and a “Clubhouse Door Fist Bump” should get the point across to Baker, no?
Once in a blue moon, Casey K will swing as hard as he can and get into one for a homer. But its the at bats like last night and the night before where he doesn’t get the runner home from third with less than 2-outs that kills the team.
Yeh, he went 2 for 4 last night with a homer and 1 rbi.
But he could very well have been 2 for 3 with 2 rbis.
Kotchman’s not going to remind anyone of Tex. You want him to hit 30 HR and 50 2B and drive in 120 runs? It’s not happening. Ever. That doesn’t mean he’s a bum. When I looked up his stats for 2009 I was pleasantly surprised, especially since he’s hit 8th pretty regularly.
“when earlier talk had speculated him (Hudson) going to the pen”
That was speculation from Ken Rosenthal looking for a story.
DOB stated last night…not an official quote…”Why would the Braves ask a guy in Hudson to do something he’s never done before by pitching out of the bullpen when coming back from Tommy John”
Its true it makes no sense what-so-ever.
It was reported ONCE by Rosenthal and his boyfriend..that Hudson may pitch put the bullpen upon his return…
I say bring Norton in relief to hit Baker. Maybe he will fill like part of the team then. As previously stated earlier there will be no retaliation. Even though I think this team could use a spark even if it is a good old fashioned brawl. But please don’t let Uggla and those popeye arms anywhere near Hanson.
“Once in a blue moon, Casey K will swing as hard as he can and get into one for a homer. But its the at bats like last night and the night before where he doesn’t get the runner home from third with less than 2-outs that kills the team.
Yeh, he went 2 for 4 last night with a homer and 1 rbi.
But he could very well have been 2 for 3 with 2 rbis.”
Well, then, I see your point–we should just shoot him! Did you actually post this? The real killers last night, other than KK throwing batting practice for an inning or so, were Prado and McCann, and I certainly don’t want to get rid of them!
Robert – not many teams would let a bush league gesture like that go. Braves normally do and are sometimes considered soft for it. Just looking for some fire.
Unless the ump gives a preemptive warning before the game, no one will get tossed for an inside fastball. Especially anyone besides the pitcher (not sure your point on that one)
But I concede, it’s not our way, so it’s not like I’ll be disappointed to not see it.
A Braves loss coupled with a Giants win doesn’t cause a little concern for Braves management? That puts the Braves in a tie with Houston for 5th place 5 games back of the Giants and 3 full games behind the Marlins.
Piedmont Blues – Since he isn’t Tex and since he isn’t going to hit for power, he has to do the little things well, like hit sac flys, sac bunts, etc. He’s got to be able to do that and produce more runs for this team.
Like I said, there is a big difference between 2 for 4 with a HR and 1 RBI
then 2 for 3 with a HR and 2RBIs.
The game being 6-4 is manageable. 6-3 isn’t quite as manageable for this team.
Same goes with the game the other night. Not hitting sac flys, made the game 3-2 instead of 4-2. Soriano gives up a 2-run shot and the game is over, when it should’ve been tied.
if we loose tonight, anybody think we should take advantage of g.anderson’s hot streak and get something for him. the giants are just handing out top pitching prospects for marginal offensive players. i say we get in on it.
Robert, how is brushing someone back and letting them know you’re aware of the situation bad? The Rays started it back in spring training last year and it showed the sox and yanks that they won’t be intimidated. The Braves need to start playing with a chip on their shoulder.
No problem with that – keep it in the clubhouse. If the Braves instigate something by starting to throw at people, they can not win that situation. If they use it to motivate themselevs in the clubhouse and focus their energies to execute well to beat the Marlins, then it can be productive
“DOB stated last night…not an official quote…”Why would the Braves ask a guy in Hudson to do something he’s never done before by pitching out of the bullpen when coming back from Tommy John”
Its true it makes no sense what-so-ever.”
I agree. That would be as stupid as when Smoltz had his surgery. Some folks thought he would be great as a closer, that it would save his arm, but why would you ask him to do something he hadn’t done before?
The KK apologist always make me laugh. Watch JJ and Javy pitch, then watch KK pitch. Notice any differences?? The guy is not very good and I’m not basing it only on last night. He’s a bullpen killer. He always has a high pitch count because he pitches away from contact. Someone need sto tell this guy that first pitch ground balls are your friend.
“The Braves need to start playing with a chip on their shoulder.”
Agreed. And right now that chip should be directed at themselves. They are the ones who havent been executing well, havent been playing solid fundamentals. Focus that chip on improving their own play and good things might happen. Focus it on throwing at the other team or further getting into with the umps, and we’ll wind up with guys serving suspensions while we are trying to stay in a wild-card race
I thought your 4:11 p.m. was going to YUMA. Oh, right, that’s 3:10. Sorry. Actually, I found your scenerio mildly amusing, and not offensive in the least. I get more torked by METS players using the term “those people” to describe fellow professional baseball players(BRAVES). But hey, that’s just me. So yuck it up party boy.
Bill Hohn — Eric Gregg the late Eric Gregg was a suspended ump who died broke. He LOLed after a Braves Marlin playoff game about how wide he made the strike zone for Marlins … dont play dumb when you have to be the show piece in a game that really needs umps to be invisible … Hope at least you get your pension unlike Eric your mentor.
Just an idle question. When was the last time, other than the infamous strike situation, when an ump was not invited back the next year? Hohn seems to qualify. Teams dump ineffective people every week why not MLB?
Please stop saying we need to trade Javy. We’re 4 games out of the WC, you don’t trade a top starter when you have a chance. Just because some don’t think the Braves can make the playoffs, doesn’t mean that’s what the Braves think.
All the guy said is that KK has been an acceptable fifth starter. Name me the fifth starters that arent bullpen killers – like, if they werent bullpen killer,s they wouldnt be fifth starters
Of course there WAS the 98 Braves whoswe fifth starter was a 17 game winner – and yet somehow that team didnt achieve anything, but that’s a different story that y’all dont wanna hear about

Yeh, he went 2 for 4 last night with a homer and 1 rbi.
But he could very well have been 2 for 3 with 2 rbis.

so that more Braves can get summarilty ejected? – What is the sense of escalating a situation that you can not win?
Use it to motivate the guys in the clubhouse, but do not do something stupid on the field

Robert, how is brushing someone back and letting them know you’re aware of the situation bad? The Rays started it back in spring training last year and it showed the sox and yanks that they won’t be intimidated. The Braves need to start playing with a chip on their shoulder.

“Just looking for some fire. ”
No problem with that – keep it in the clubhouse. If the Braves instigate something by starting to throw at people, they can not win that situation. If they use it to motivate themselevs in the clubhouse and focus their energies to execute well to beat the Marlins, then it can be productive

Please stop saying we need to trade Javy. We’re 4 games out of the WC, you don’t trade a top starter when you have a chance. Just because some don’t think the Braves can make the playoffs, doesn’t mean that’s what the Braves think.

“The KK apologist always make me laugh”
All the guy said is that KK has been an acceptable fifth starter. Name me the fifth starters that arent bullpen killers – like, if they werent bullpen killer,s they wouldnt be fifth starters
Of course there WAS the 98 Braves whoswe fifth starter was a 17 game winner – and yet somehow that team didnt achieve anything, but that’s a different story that y’all dont wanna hear about
