“I don’t think Bobby is gonna run out onto the field and run to first to cover what Soriano is supposed to do”

Nor was he the one who did the coaching of that during Spring Training nor was he the only manager Soriano had in his career. It’s hysterical watching people try to blame whipping boys like KJ, Kotchman and Cox because the stud had a brain cramp.

Soriano made a mistake, folks. It happens. Then, he mowed down everyone else. Like KJ, he manned up after the misstep. That’s to both of their credit. It’s okay to compliment people, I swear.

That’s common baseball knowledge that every player has since grade school. It’s not a manager’s job to worry about those things. Just like it’s not Bill Bellichek’s job to teach a running back how to hold a football and it’s not Phil Jackson’s job to teach Kobe how to execute a bounce pass. Those skills are expected upon being paid millions to play.

If Greg Norton isnt released before tomorrow’s game………….then he is here to stay for the rest of the year. What MORE does Bobby (let’s be real, it’s his decision) need to see that Greg Norton is finished? Bobby needs to allow Frank Wren to do his job and put the BEST players he can on this team. Two months in the season, the Braves are going to need contributions from EVERYONE on this team to make a serious run at the play-offs.

Hey, I get as frustrated as the next guy (well, maybe not THAT frustrated). I understand a rant from a true fan.

What kills me, and I guess it won’t change, is that the whole pretext of a blog lets folks just go on and on continually, about every game, inning, at bat and pitch.

Know what I mean??? We SUCK. Then Mac hits a long one, and then they change their tune so fast, it makes me dizzy. BRING ON THEM DODGERS, they will yell, about 5 minutes after calling a 1/3 of our team idiots.

In the real world, a player makes an error, then turns a great DP just a bit later. He makes a GREAT pitch, and the batter squibs one through.

Baseball is a beautiful game. I originally discovered the blog here, and enjoyed the out and back discussions with folks on my beloved Braves. Then as the blog got more popular, the idiocy level increased geometrically.

I just get a bit frustrated with all the fair weather fans.

Nor was he the one who did the coaching of that during Spring Training nor was he the only manager Soriano had in his career. It’s hysterical watching people try to blame whipping boys like KJ, Kotchman and Cox because the stud had a brain cramp

Casey needs to know how the other guys are aligned so he doesn’t cover their spots and Soriano needs to watch to see where the ball goes and anything hit to his left he needs to jolt over to first

Sure they can blame the manager when something he himself does goes wrong
but not .. for … every … little … thing.

I guess it’s just easy to place blame on the manager, I don’t know ….

I am glad we won the game, though very disappointed that Javier did not get the win, he truly deserves the win. This Marlin team is good, but I still believe we could have swept them or take 2 of 3 which was my prediction prior to the start of the series. BMac is undoubtedly the team leader, he shows it by his passion and example. I believe that with BMac, Escobar, McLouth, Prado and Kotchman we have a good nucleus and should keep us in the chase for years to come. I am aware that many fans want to see Kotchman goes but I am one exception, we don’t need everybody swinging for the fences, He hits well in the clutch and plays a solid D, and is very young.

To any members of the Hermida family. Jeremy is lost in South Florida. We will hold him for you at a big old stadium off the Florida Turnpike. It is time for him to return to Marietta and do whatever Jeremy is meant to do. After seeing an AB in the bottom of the 8th inning with the bases loaded, I believe that even people who truly love Jeremy for his decency as a person will know it’s time to rescue him. If you come and get him, you also never have to worry about a flyball hitting him on the head.

I think Norton will actually be released soon, but why it’s taking this long is one of the reasons players love playing for Bobby – he sees it from their point of view, and he cares about them. And for what has become an instant gratification sports society, you either don’t get that or you just don’t care, because it’s all now or nothing, and no one who doesn’t contribute to that RIGHT NOW does not matter (which is why so many are willing to trade very good prospects to “upgrade” 1st base! even though Kotchman is contributing RIGHT NOW!

Brewdawg, you obviously think that Javier is a stopper and the ace of the staff. You obviously feel that this team is on it’s way to WS contention.

But alas, you’re right. Javier won’t receive his trophy until after the WS. My bad.

Don’t bitch at me dude. You called me out. You put words in my mouth. You also accused me of assuming I’m always right. Right?

I’m not always right. But this time I am. Vazquez is not a consistent stopper. Never has been. Never will be. The Braves won tonight, despite him giving up the lead with a HR and then walking a guy in a 1-run game. It’s about time they did so, after having let him down for most of the season.

But for somebody to say “poor Javy” and that the team let him down tonight? Whatever.

Gone Viral, I had a long post that the blog ate, responding to your rant about people hoping for a loss.

I don’t ever specifically root for a loss so I can play gotcha!

However, I wouldn’t have been heartbroken with a loss tonight, as it may have made Wren do the right thing and sell high on three guys (Soriano, Gonzo and perhaps Vazquez) that might not be on the team next year.

This team is an enigma. One week they’re on their way to the WS, the next week they play like crap. For the most part, it’s been very entertaining. But I’m still not sold on this team winning enough to get there this year, and I certainly wouldn’t fault Wren for sacrificing this season for future success.

This team will be really good next year, if Wren makes the right moves. If Wren truly believes that this is going to make the playoffs and do something when there, I’m OK with him going for it. How could I not be? But if he’s just publicly stating it to sell tickets? That sucks.

So, in closing. Would I root for a loss for my own personal instant gratification of mockery on the ole’ blog? No.

Would I root for a loss, when I don’t think a slew of victories are on the horizon, the deadline for trading off players less than 24 hours away, and the promise of a better tomorrow by doing so giving me gratification and a better team to watch for the next few years?

You bet your ass I would. But instead we win tonight (despite flaws) and Wren will tweek a little here and there, and come October, we’ll be watching, and then we’ll watch Soriano and Gonzo both leave via free agency.

Sell now. Win next year. We’re closer than the Pirates. We are a few good trades and signings by Wren away from keeping up with the Phillies (for real) next year. Otherwise, Wren will be left with free agency and trading prospects to improve the club for next year, this winter. Why not start now?

Norton did well up at Gwinnett. The expectation was that he might turn it around.

Like I have said a multitude of times, the Braves have a lot of patience with their players. That is one of the reason Bobby is beloved by those who play or have played with them.

All you fantasy baseball folks out there (not slamming fantasy leagues, just never got into them) have issues with a manager not moving folks out quicker. But, that’s the real world, and not fantasy baseball.
