We have to score 4 runs to win this game…NO WAY we win this game with 2 runs scored
July 30th, 20098:35 pm
I think Chipper needs to call his dad….
Marc from FL
Robert, I don’t even get the “we need a reliever” argument, in fact I haven’t heard an argument, lol, just people randomly calling for a new reliever. No idea why, makes no sense considering the two arms we’re getting back soon.
Another bat wouldn’t be bad, but I just don’t think that’d be enough to spark this offense. We have the wrong people swinging for the fences (just about everyone on the team), and a new bat isn’t going to fix that.
Steve from OH
I’ve said we need ANOTHER BAT for a LONG TIME
True. But not many here that I’ve read agree with you.
July 30th, 20098:36 pm
Y’all mount and dismount bandwagons from at-bat to at-bat. Hate a guy one minute, love him the next. Yeah, schizophrenia is a valid diagnosis…
Haha, way to hussle McCann!
July 30th, 20098:37 pm
Look at McCann hustle there. Nice rip there.
two great hustle plays for Mac tonight
Mac’s slides are so ugly. He’s gonna hurt himself if he keeps doing that.
Love the hustle, but man….
cabravesfan – welcome home – I can stop yelling updates out my window. Do you remember the line in Airplane about having a drinking problem?
The Braves have way to many strikeouts against this guy for my tastes.
He’s got more than Javy, the guy in 2nd place in Ks ..
I would say YES to your first question. Win/Loss record is the only thing really hurting him. Rumor had it on the door was going to press charges on Bennett so he asked for his release. BMAC you a stud!
dangit. whats the score? whats going on? i came home to find that Bill Hohn had broken into my house and stolen my television, computer, and ironing board. now i am having to use the internet at the library. this is lame.
“and that’s when I developed my drinking problem…” LOVE that movie
July 30th, 20098:38 pm
IBB GA…wow…getting some respect. Well….doesn’t help that Hernandez is batting behind him.
I don’t mean all of you, just the schizos…
For those still holding out for The One Big Bat, how do you make the salary work?
It is easier to get a good reliever at a price the Braves can afford and without having to punch a hole somewhere else.
first Braves walk of the game
This is where not having Escobar hurts. Also, not having Omar Infante hurts to because he can come in a play shortstop on a night like tonight. Diory Hernandez is simply over matched right now. He could definitely use some seasoning in Triple A right now.
Rob from SC
July 30th, 20098:39 pm
Stanton is the # 2 prospect in all of baseball. Maybin is a five tool center fielder. The Marlins offer is better than anything the Braves can offer unless we included Heyward and Hanson which we won’t.
good idea JMan…but that package is significantly less than the one mentioned from the Marlins.
I do, however, love that trade. I’ll never understand why the Pads would want to trade Adrian, but I would sure love to have him.
Nova Scotia Steve
1. Would someone please teach McCann how to slide properly…
2. That was probably the most entertaining intent. walk ive ever seen in my loaf…Anderson is hilarious…bat down at his knees….for all four pitches
Here’s where we miss Yunel.
Edward( Bobby Retires after 2009 or Bust )
So…we’re back to not hitting. This is fun.
July 30th, 20098:40 pm
Diory Hernandez – The Hispanic Greg Norton
Try to get the your trading team partner do what what teams trading with the Pirates are doing … have them take on most of the salary
that’d be my guess
The Marlins offer is better than anything the Braves can offer unless we included Heyward and Hanson which we won’t.
Spot on. This is why I don’t think we should go for a big bat–we don’t have the expendable pieces to do it.
Is that all of VandenHurk? Near 100 pitches, and his spot is due up.
Terrible AB by Hernandez but he’s not a #6 hitter…. smart move to walk loaf…..
3 straight K’s for Heyward
July 30th, 20098:41 pm
I realize that Rob but I’ve heard no one substantiate that rumor…
Land Shark Stadium
more roasting of Hohn…I love it
July 30th, 20098:42 pm
but I’ve heard no one substantiate that rumor…
Only difference between Norton and Diory: 1 homerun (leading to 1 extra rbi) and 21 points
Steve from OH
Some people don’t understand that we can’t get a superstar player without trading Heyward or Hanson. Freeman is a good prospect, but nowhere near the level of Heyward or Stanton. Low A-Ball pitchers won’t get us anywhere.
July 30th, 20098:43 pm
time to go to work on the pen
Careful, there, BMac! Don’t need you hurt, too.
Glad he beat the freaking over-shift and hustled to make that a double, though!
Rob from SC……..not that Heyward’s 3 strikeouts in itself is cause to keep him in the Minors…….however, as I’ve said before, Jason Heyward will more than likely stay at Double A for the rest of the season.
Good, now we are in the Marlins bullpen.
Guess that’s it. Time to work on the Marlins’ pen.
I’m only Dolphins Stadium, ma’am.
We don’t have the prospects to get a Halladay, Martinez, Gonzalez.
Boo-yah…no more Rick!
July 30th, 20098:44 pm
If we offered Heyward and Hanson we could get almost any player we want.
If this same umpire crew works another Braves game at the Ted, I am going to sell Bill Hohn replica mustaches in the fan plaza. Then you can wear one and eject everyone sitting around you for no particular reason at all.
July 30th, 20098:46 pm
I like Boog. “Can’t steal first base”, that one’s going on my wall. “Speed never slumps”, that one isn’t going on my wall!
July 30th, 20098:47 pm
Just got home…glad to see they put Hohn at third, right in front of the Braves’ dugout.
Can you imagine what would happen if McCann check swings on a 2 strike count? I’m sure that’ll be jovial.
July 30th, 20098:48 pm
PWH–like I said, Boog seems like a smart guy. I wonder what name he posts under here?
I’ll bet it’s Shamus Thacker. Ah, nevermind, he’s and idiot.
OK Lets put a crooked number up so I can hit the sack. We need at least 4 to win this one
If Javy doesn’t labor through any of these final 3 innings it’d be nice to see him get his second complete game (first CG win) of the year.
Vazquez is at 79 pitches through 6 innings. He can possibly go 2 more innings, and then give it to Soriano to save the 9th.
The Pirates are in full salary dump mode, the Braves are just in a holding pattern. In order to get your trading partner to eat salary, you have to give up more in talent. They aren’t going to just keep eat salary to be nice. I think it makes more since to trade for a need and at a salary point that comes close to a match. Kind of like what they do in the NBA.
Predictions for tomorrow: big, exciting day or are all the big deals already done? (for the rest of the league mainly)
July 30th, 20098:49 pm
more sense I meant.
July 30th, 20098:50 pm
why is greg norton’s wife a virgin?
greg can’t hit anything
How in the he!! can anyone explain Bobby’s lineup tonight? The Braves are in dire need of a win and he runs out the combo of Diory Hernandez and Kelly Johnson????? This is the same old Cox stupidity that just kills me. It remind of the Tony Graffanino Danny Bautiste days. Is there any way we can trade Bobby at the deadline for some common sense????
July 30th, 20098:51 pm
Good eye by Kotchman there.
Oh man…I didn’t think of that! Hopefully we won’t have to go there!
ACCTDAWG, I’m thinking semi-active. Maybe a big name bat goes (possibly 2), as well as some relievers
Rob from SC, I normally agree with you, but the Phils just got Cliff Lee without giving up a superstar top prospect. They kept their top 3-4 prospects, no? Admittedly, do not know nearly as much as most of you on here regarding prospects…among other things.
Escobar and Prado are injured. Who are you suggesting cox play instead, Greg Norton???
I think all the major deals are done. The Padres might move Adrian Gonzalez, but who cares, the Indians might move V-Mart (would be the biggest move), I don’t think Halladay is going anywhere. Probably one or two relievers getting moved around.
July 30th, 20098:52 pm
braves73—-joined regularly scheduled program already in progress
No tellin’ man. I DO know….we don’t have the nads to pull off a big deal….or the pieces…..or the budget.
Seriously? You’re kidding right?
I think every Braves batter has been in an 0-2 hole tonight.
Don’t reproduce, I beg of you.
July 30th, 20098:53 pm
Braves73 you expect players to play when they’re hurt? They’re not dogs you can run into the ground and replace as soon as they fall over
Lightning goin’ on here. So if I disappear from the Blog at any point, just know either the power went out, or I had to shut down the computer.
Swing the f*cking bat!
They must have eaten too many black beans and churizo last night…are you kidding me?
but the Phils just got Cliff Lee without giving up a superstar top prospect.
No, but they did get a good package. If we had a group of prospects like that in the minors, I think we’d probably already have a big bat with us now. But we don’t. Brown, Taylor and Drabek are their Hanson, Freeman and Heyward. We aren’t giving those three up and neither are they. But we cannot match Donald, Marson, Carrasco and Knapp. I’m actually higher on Carrasco than most anyway, so take that with a grain of salt.
July 30th, 20098:54 pm
Yeah, I agree with the semi-active thought. I guess it feels more dead when we don’t really expect to be in too many of the rumors tomorrow.
I agree with you, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see the Dodgers or Red Sox make a big deal. As much as I despise the Sox, they seem like they are ready to pull a trigger on something big to jumpstart that team.
July 30th, 20098:55 pm
I’ve always liked Boog, Steve from OH. His humor is a bit cheesy at times, but I love the cheesy humor on a baseball telecast. Knows his sabermetrics, too. I’m curious as to what name he posts on here under too.
Nate to try and avoid his 4th K
Javy and Lowe are far and away the best bunters in the team. No one else is in the same league.
I see that worthless POS of a 1B we have has knocked in the only two runs tonight. Better get rid of him and sell high, huh? (eyes rolling)
And I actually think Dominic Brown is gonna be a stud, so I fully understand why they didn’t trade him…
Braves73: They must have eaten too many black beans and churizo last night…are you kidding me?
And I give you the ever whimsical Braves73.
July 30th, 20098:56 pm
WTF is Boog talking about?
Nate’s been 0 fer everybody lately!
good clip jman, thanks
Huge RBI there
Lol, way to drive it Natedog!
PWH–what I’m most impressed with is that he seems to have slowly turned Joe onto some simple saber concepts, and Joe (to me) seems like the poster boy for old-schooly folksy wisdom-type baseball analysis.
July 30th, 20098:57 pm
Kotchman either drivin’ ‘em in or scorin’ em.
That would’ve been close if the guy hadn’t booted it
Did Boog say he posts on here?
KJ goin’ deep here?
all he needed was vandenhurk out of the game
So you don’t like Kotchman and appreciate what he’s done for this team? Are you crazy man??
July 30th, 20098:58 pm
Get em on get em over and get em in. I believe you bloggers have been saying that all year. Is that what you hve been talking about or was this just an accident?
Line shot be Nate–much like last night. Go yard KJ
I wouldnt go as far as McClutch…
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
