Assuming that we dont come back tonight……..I think that it will safe to assume that tomorrow’s game is a MUST WIN.

cabravesfan, good call. You could just see it coming…..
well losing 2 so far to the stinkin marlins .. come on .. KK sucks. signing him was a huge gaff by frank wren . I cant wait till Tim Hudson comes back and takes his spot… but i will say this. this is the same umpiring crew from boston. Hahn is awful .. and will say this .. the braves need another bat..
Rob from SC, lol if that was it he is excused
And Manny buzzing one at his head on the next pitch lol awesome.
I think that pitch at Ross’ head was actually aimed at the Home Plate ump and David Ross just missed the sign and catch it!
Who is the crew chief? Should he not step in and do something about this bu****it
Dang! He’s a jerk! He’s a first class jerk!!
Yep. I knew it was coming, too…BMac’s been in a mood this whole game.
July 29th, 20099:46 pm
Great Mac…you just took your bat out of the line-up. How about some more players get the boot and hurt the team….
So, everyone likes KK?
Hey Clueless Joe….the reason Bobby Cox gets tossed so often is because he is a cranky, bitter old man who is constantly grousing about the umpiring. I don’t believe there is any kind of conspiracy but you have your head so far up the Braves rear ends, you see all sorts of demons.
July 29th, 20099:47 pm
Why dont the braves throw a fast ball and have the catcher act confussed on the pitch and move so the ump gets drilled.
the call to the BP should have been O’Flarety (sp… sorry)
major league baseball umpires are consistantly the most egotistical in sports while simultaneously being wrong more of the time.
In other careers they care about getting the call right. In baseball… oh it’s part of the game that we suck at our jobs… nice. great call blue.
Umm 7… it’s the 8th inning and BMac just batted. he’s not getting up again and you knew he was gonna get tossed there. Come on
High pitch and Ross ‘accidently’ lets it tip his glove and straight into the umpire. Ooops
July 29th, 20099:48 pm
Ok, I get you. There should be no debate. Our rotation would be better with Hudson in it over KK. I’m just not buying this BS from others that somehow that combination of rookies would have made us better. Rookies are unpredictable. KK is. He throws a lot of pitches and will probably give you somewhere between 5-7 with 7 being his high, I think he went into the 8th like once. More times than not he will give you a quality start, just not going to give you the innings a Lowe/Vazquez/Jurrjens will give you. At least not until he figures out this strike zone. His problem isn’t that he is getting bombed every outing. If it was that would be a huge problem. Its that he throws to many pitches to get outs. If and when he figures that out he can be much better but right now him and Hudson are not even comparable.
Hey 7, didnt we trade you to the Mets for 25
That would be intersting with no guys on….throw the high heat and have the catcher miss the ball… “WHAM” right in the ump’s mask.
BMac should have left his catchers gear at home plate as a sign of protest along with a few choice words about that guy to boot
Wayne in Utah
I know it would be wrong, but what if Ross called for a high hard one, and just missed it!
DOB: I think even Escobar will give you a pass if you neglect him to find out about the “lineup card mess.”
Rob in Fayetteville-
Definitely not hard to call- Mac rarely loses his temper but when he does…
7 – you do know the next time the braves bat it will be the 9th inning, right? And that Mac just batted last inning. I’m sure you did, just thought I’d mention it.
Supes………..dude, I didnt say that Tim Hudson should become a reliever for the rest of his career, lol. I said JUST FOR THE REST OF THIS SEASON. Also, it isnt that I prefer Kawakami over Tim Hudson. It’s that I have BIGTIME RESERVATIONS about a pitcher coming back from elbow surgery will be able to go 6-7 innings every time out.
However, if the Braves dont start winning some ballgames, then it will be a moot point.
July 29th, 20099:49 pm
who is the backup catcher now? Matt has already hit… Rossy will really have to gag himself…
Just out of curiosity…so far this year…how many “MUST WIN” games… have we had ??…( Cos’ I know we got a whole bunch more of em’ comin’ )
I wish McCann had brought a lighter out b/t innings and lit Hohn’s 70’s style stache on fire.
Hohn is a complete joke and unprofessional.
Every game is a MUST WIN, isn’t it?
Hey, all you people making fun of Billy Hohn, remember it’s no fun to go through life being a MORON (as we have all been taught by our good friend)!
You know I like the Marlins, BUT if I’m there–Enough is Enough!! i’d be sticking up for Cox like crazy. That FAT SLOB Triple Chin Joe West almost ejected me one year when I discussed his singing and his chins, AND this was worse. If you’re a Braves fan move down close–plenty of room–and give it to Hohn good.
July 29th, 20099:50 pm
Wayne, I did that once in highschool… my coach got really upset
I think the entire blog agrees with you on that one.
Hell just FROZE over
The A Bomb
Hey DOB — do you remember that game in Atlanta many years ago when Hohn went nuts kicking out people?
All I remember is him umping the game with a wet towel around his neck. But on the day – it was a day game — he wanted to be the show — just like tonight. Don’t remember anything else but it was a horrible job of umping.
All the talk of “beaning” the ump . . . that was a well documented story in a Georgia high school game . . . players/coaches got suspended this season if I recall . . . catcher intentionally missed a pitch
Who wants to bet on a 1-2-3 inning?
July 29th, 20099:51 pm
you raise a good point…
So you have BIG TIME RESERVATIONS about a guy coming back after surgery but not about a guy who can’t get thru 4 innings? Hmm.
Bill Hohns Wife
July 29th, 20099:52 pm
Hey my sweetie Bill left his glasses at home please have him call asap he tends to run into things without them.
I swear one of these days when an ump ejects Cox, some opposing manager is gonna come out of his dugout and plead “no, no, dont throw him out” – You KNOW they’re thinking it
Ross needs to setup inside (but not enough where the ball will hit the batter) tell Logan to throw it there and then move waaaay outside as soon as the pitch is thrown
With any luck the Ump drops and Logan and Ross claim they got crossed up
July 29th, 20099:53 pm
Ross could make a weird-looking stab at it. Say he and the pitcher got crossed up.
Hohn and Cox do indeed have a long history. It goes back more than 10 years. Whoever “evaluates” the umpires (Bob Watson, Bruce Froemming and others) are not doing their job, as long as Hohn draws a paycheck.
July 29th, 20099:54 pm
Hmm, why are only boundary calls reviewed? Why don’t they show replays of Umpire calls in the stadium? Why can’t you argue balls and strikes?
Because they know just how wrong they are and how often… that’s why.
is that Brian’s first ejection? if so then it could be a team fire-up
Or…..MFIKY could just have a word with him.
Wrong 7 but I’m glad the other & is gone.
What if Braves score 3 runs and play 3 or 4 more inning…?
All we need is Angel Hernandez for the L.A. series to make this week complete.
Marc from FL
July 29th, 20099:55 pm
Ok, 2 outs, right where we want them, load them bases and let’s slam these puppies!
well the braves sweep philly and get closer in the division and then after that they go downhill. Seems right that they get close in the WC race and do the same thing thanks to the Marlins (with some help from a short ump and an ump with an ego)
Isn’t that umpire that callled game six of the division series the Braves against the Marlins Eric Greg dead ?! I’m just saying Hohn !!
“And don’t blame that ejection on Bobby. He didn’t do jack wrong”
The hell he didnt. He bitched about an umps’ cal, and that’s wrong. What the ump says goes. That’s the way the game is played. Anyone trying to dispute that is disrupting play and merits being tossed
It’s great actually. Gives us a fighting chance
July 29th, 20099:56 pm
So Kawakami makes $ 8 million a year, and bought Bow Wow’s Atlanta mansion? “Life ain’t fair” is a huge understatement.
Why isn’t KJ playing?
Rob from SC
must admit that KJ looks good
Old Kj playing some ball
July 29th, 20099:57 pm
Told ya! Now Mclouth will walk, infield single by Prado, and Chipper SLAAAMMMMM
So. WHY did we PH Norton last night?
heyward rbi single
Heyward RBI single (.451)
What is he now, 5 for 6 since coming back??
“maybe Hohn was making fun of Cox for PH Norton”
THAT was funny
Gotta love the fact that you can hear every word the Marlins fans say. Nice to see the Braves not giving up. Would not have seen this last year. Game would have been over when Johnson hit that bomb.
How fitting that Hohn looks like Major Hochstetter from Hogan’s Heroes…
“WHAT IS THIS MAN DOING HERE?!?”
That’s the third ejection of BMac’s career–first since June 23, 2007. Hope it fires them up…
cabravesfan Mac rarely loses his temper but when he does…
That’s for sure.
Robert – you are too stupid for words
KJ didn’t hit a homer. Trade him.
July 29th, 20099:58 pm
I meant to say McLouth will strike out and end the game… Welp, at least it was an eventful loss, cya later folks!
Here’s an article about the Ump and bad calls. I found it on the net.
Here we go again. What is it about umpiring crews that include Bill Hahn?
Tonight the fault was not Hahn’s. The blame for the loss on Tuesday night can be placed squarely on Jerry Meals short stature frame.
He squeezed Jair Jurrjens all night long, while giving Ricky Nolasco the benefit of the doubt.
Unfortunately that did not stop when Rafael Soriano took the mound in the bottom of the ninth with a one-run lead. Soriano was squeezed on two of the five pitches he used to walk Cody Ross.
After Ross was sacrificed to second, pinch hitter Ross Gload came to the plate. Soriano threw a first pitch strike right down the middle, which was called a ball. Three pitches later, the game was over and the Braves had lost a tough one.
Hahn’s crew was involved in another game the Braves lost on a walk off HR. At Fenway Park in June, Chipper Jones, Eric O’ Flaherty, and Bobby Cox were all thrown out of the game by Hahn on the same play for arguing balls and strikes.
Needless to say, this is getting old.
Of course the Braves had their chances against the Marlins all night long. The inexplicably employed, Greg Norton did his best Mario Mendoza impression yet again. This time he hit into a double play rather than swinging late on an 85 mph “heater.”
Norton is hitting .120 a week after being retained in Atlanta while the Braves sent down the scorching-hot Brook Conrad. Conrad was hitting .344 with two home runs and eight RBI, two triples and two doubles in the 14 games he spent with Atlanta. Most of which came while Norton was on the disabled list.
But I didn’t write this to badmouth the Braves. It’s one loss, albeit a rough one, but still just one loss. It wont get any easier tomorrow night when the Braves face Josh Johnson. Kenshin “Cant find the strike zone” Kawakami will pitch for Atlanta.
The Braves simply cannot afford a losing streak right now. The Marlins and Phillies are hot right now, and any slide in the Wild Card standings will have the Braves looking up at the Giants, Cardinals, Rockies, Astros, and these Marlins.
The Braves do need to address the bullpen at the deadline. Nothing huge, just an extra arm. And for goodness sake it’s time to designate Norton for assignment.
Well McLouth = fail
Two fast balls down the middle? Swing dammit.
July 29th, 20099:59 pm
Not to be picky, but he had a sac fly earlier in the game and his single was of the non-RBI variety.
OK, nevermind. I’m an idiot. You’re right.
If the Braves aren’t happy with the umpiring, can they file a complaint with the league? We’ve had a bad string of calls in this series, and like you posted yesterday, it’s the same crew that was in Boston. Just seems like the crew has it out for Bobby….the showboating, the close calls at 1st going against us, with the horrible strike zone last night and in Boston. Is there something they can do to at least get the league attention? I know the umps are unionized, but the league does take note of this BS right?
Jaglawyer: There’s a big difference between high school and the major leagues. In the majors there are things called unions. The same force that allows Bill Hohn to be incompetent and keep his job will make sure that no player gets suspended for “an accident”
I love the idea about setting up a play to drill the ump. I mean , heck, that would certainly win other umpires over to the Braves’ way of looking at things.
So every time Bobby or one of his players gets ticked about poor umpiring, they are supposed to just lay over and accept it???
Don’t think so Tim.
Standing pat should not be an option. I’m not saying give the farm up, but standing pat would not be the best.
Instead of a disco demolition night we should have a mustache demolition night and bring all action figures and stuffed animals with 70s porn staches and blow them up in center field the next time Bill hohn umps at The Ted. I personally will bring my Lando Calrissian action figure and my Rollie Fingers bobble head.
July 29th, 200910:00 pm
What the H@#$ was McLouth doing? Two right down the middle and he kept the bat on his shoulder. Seems like the object of the game is to hit the ball, and you can’t do that with the bat on your shoulder.
Kelly Johnson probably shoulda started this game
By the way, here’s my public apology. On an earlier blog I said Hohn would toss Cox by the 6th inning tonight. I missed it by a couple innings.
I will now predict MLB will do nothing about this, and the porn-mustache guy will ump till he’s 70. It’s called rewarding incompetence.
What was Chipper staring at ?! If looks could kill !! Wren needs to go to Liberty get down on his hands and knees and beg them to make one more trade !! Tell them they will make their money back by ticket sales !!!
Heyward has both RBI’s, not to be picky
Dbacks up 2-0 on the Phillies already. Gonna be a tough night for the Phils, I predict they’ll only win this one by a touchdown and a field goal.
How old are you? Did Bobby Cox steal your girlfriend at some point during your inadequate life? Wait, I’m not making too big of an assumption in your liking of women, am I?
Loaf on his blackberry walking to locker room
July 29th, 200910:01 pm
curtis jones: Cause I’m sure you deserve that house?
Well, win tomorrow and you go 3-3 on the road trip. Not great but serviceable for right now. Play .500 on the road and win every series at home, WC still in the picture.
I just want this team to play meaningful games at home in september!
ump problems aside the braves still have things to work on, this game shows that:
2nd inning: GA lead off double, stranded
5th inning: two on, 1 out, 1 in. Prado dp ends inning
8th inning: chipper walks, mac hits into a dp, GA doubles and is stranded
July 29th, 200910:02 pm
I don’t think Chipper cared for that skinny little twurp Nunez’ antics. Anybody else catch that?
Boog, wasn’t as much “too much Josh Johnson” as it was just too much Kaka-poo-poo.
“So every time Bobby or one of his players gets ticked about poor umpiring, they are supposed to just lay over and accept it??? ”
Wayne – tell me this – how many times have you seen an ump, when he gets bitched at, decide that oh yeah I guess old boy manager (whichever one it is ) is right, I’ll just go ahead and change my call . My bad
That said, there are discrete and professional ways to show your displeasure with umpiring that are more effective than throwing a hee-hawing donkey sized tantrum in the middle of the field. I guarantee you every time Cox does his tirade, whatever ump he is screaming at is thinking “let’s get this idiot out of here”
well leave it up to the lowest payroll baseball team to beat the braves and win this series already and fall 2 games further back in both the wild card and division. . 51-50 as predicted .. kawakami sucks .. and gave a 3 run bomb to the pitcher.. come on thats shameful and inexcusable.. all the momentum is now gone folks.
July 29th, 200910:03 pm
This just in….home plate ump is STILL a jacka&&
Vinings Jim who the s— are you to call someone stupid, Obama.
Steve from OH
That said, there are discrete and professional ways to show your displeasure with umpiring that are more effective than throwing a hee-hawing donkey sized tantrum in the middle of the field.
Like stopping the game and going over to the dugout to pick a fight? Oh wait, that was Hohn, not Cox, nevermind…
Yep…Dude was kinda actin’ up out there…not sure why….
