Curis jones…… where did you get your crystal ball???? and how much was it??? I got mine two years ago on ebay for $20. I successfully predicted that we would sign David Ross last off season!!! ONE OF MY PROUDEST MOMENTS!!!!!! Currently I’m seeing Mark Lemke for Adrian Gonzales. But, to me that sounds a little unrealistic… though Mark is coming on as a announcer.

The Marlins are incredible. They’re playing Cody Ross in Center Field so Maybin won’t reach Super 2. Not that Cody Ross is a bad player, but I can’t imagine having Cody Ross in center field is a defensive upgrade over anyone.

If you get sick of hearing about the Tex trade, then don’t make anymore “Tex” trades.

The “Tex” trade is the “poster child-gold standard” that has been used for a couple of years now by the media as the example of giving up loads of top prospects for a single guy who may not put you over the top.

FlBravesFan,
Yes, David Aardsma, their closer, who they won’t trade. Sean White has a respectable ERA, but a 21-to-19 strikeout-to-walk ratio. No way he comes close to sustaining that ERA. And Mark Lowe who is cheap and under team control for awhile, who they most likely won’t move. I don’t see anything there.

Paul Lentz

July 28th, 2009
7:36 pm

In the 2 years since the Braves made the Tex trade, I see no reason to get worked up over the trade.

1. Matt Harrison: lefty starting pitcher who cant stay healthy.
2. Salty: lots of strikeouts, inconsistent power.
3. Elvis Andrus: good glove, very weak bat.
4. Neftali Feliz: short relief pitcher, still in the minors, raw prospect.
5. Beau Jones: still in the minors, a fringe prospect at best.

Yet many of you are still going by what the media says about the trade.

Right now, Casey Kotchman has contributed more this year than all those guys combined have for Texas. I’m not saying that it will stay that way. However, I dont see “All-Star” written on any of them.

We kept the important prospects, that is all that matters.

By Friday Wren needs to DFA Norton, change Conrad and Hernandez, and get whatever he can in the pen for whats left with KJ and Gwinnett.

Steve from OH

July 28th, 2009
7:42 pm

Neftali Feliz: short relief pitcher, still in the minors, raw prospect.

Except that he’s started all the way up until recently, still projects as a legit frontline starter, and is not “raw” at all in having a plus 11-5 curveball and an at least average changeup that he’s developing good feel for according to scouting reports. There is really no reason whatsoever to classify him as a reliever at this point, just because he was moved to the pen this year to both ease his transition to the bigs and provide a role that he can legitimately help the big club in.

Tex, Kotchman, Mahay = +50 runs relative to average with batting , fielding, and pitching

Elvis, Salty, Harrison = -40 runs relative to average with batting, fielding, and pitching

Hugh Jazz

Frenchy with another RBI tonight, up to 51 which is more than most of our players. That trade is looking worse and worse. It puts the spotlight directly on TP, who should be fired before he ruins anymore young players. For the record, I was for the trade when it happened but I gotta think someone over there got Frenchy on the right track.

Couldn’t it also be that he is just finally playing without pressure now? Getting back to the very basics of hitting — see the ball, hit the ball. Not arguing for or against TP…just think it really was one of those things were he probably needed a change of scenery. It’s still better for the Braves for him to be better somewhere else than to be awful in Atlanta–for the Braves, and more importantly, for himself.

Have you seen Frenchy play for the Mets? The results are much better, but the flawed mechanics and approach haven’t changed one darn bit. It’s kinda strange to say that he’s showing TP up when nothing has changed in his mechanics and approach. And, yes, I’ve watched every single at bat he’s had for the Mets ’cause despite it all, he’s one of my favorite all time players. And, yes, I do think it was for the best of the team and Frenchy for him and the team to move the hell on already

Hugh Jazz…………the Francoeur trade still was a good one for the Braves. He may be driving in some runs for the Mets right now, however he has yet to draw a walk with the Mets. Right now, for some reason, he’s getting some hittable pitches to hit.

However, once he starts experiencing a few 0 for 4s………then you will see the Jeff Francouer that we’ve been accustoming to seeing over the past year and a half.

His lack of patience in drawing walks will eventually come to hurt him at the plate.
