well good to see the trade still paying off with yet another RBI for the frenchanader and a crucial dp hit into by one ryan church…yes fabulous trade…what do all you guys say hey he takes walks
BTW- You folks see what Luis Castillo has been doing in July? Batting .400 with an OBA of .500! .526 and .625 the last 7 games respectively. Overall for the year he’s hitting .306 with an OBA of .403. He’s had a great #2 hitter year. Even his outs are mostly productive and he’s the hardest guy in the league to strike out. If Reyes was in front of him all season things would be a lot different for the Mets imo.
This guy said after last years injury riddled year he was gonna work his butt off in the off season and come back strong. Well he’s delivered. Still shouldn’t have been signed to that contract Minaya gave him but at least now there’s some positive return.
and that record has absolutely nada to do with ryan church either does it…when mccann and escobar are rippin the cover off the ball. seems to me the mets have been playin a lil better ball here of lately to funny i dont know whats sparked there offense?
Okay, I’ll play along. If Soriano HAD spoken to DOB last night, directly or through an interpreter, it would have probably gone something like this: “I had to throw a strike, and he got all of the pitch. I’ll have to shake it off and go out and get ‘em the next time.”
This is positively the LAST chance. The Marlins will give you Hermida for an autographed picture of Lamar Blanks, a lei from Mike Lum and a copy of a UAW contract from Tom Glavine’s memorabilia collection.
You folks see what Luis Castillo has been doing in July?
Are you lost? This is the Braves blog, we don’t give a damn what the Mets players are doing. But it is good of you to start keeping up with the Mets now that they’ve won a few games. Just a few weeks ago you said you had already thrown in the towel on this season. Anyway, I’m glad you’ve bought back in. It will make the eventual Mets ball of fail so much more enjoyable knowing that you got your little hopes up.
bill if that is the case then that is sad are you kiddin me we wants walks and thats all from our rf…jf throws out a runner a week. who on the braves has 16 rbi in the last 14 games.

so when the marlins move into there new casa will they draw more of a crowd? i sure as heck hope so…think we had more people at church sunday than last nights game.
Hopefully the Braves are practicing bunting and sacrifice flies today in batting practice. ABC baseball could have won us the game last night, but Braves failed to execute simple baseball. The team has got to drive in runners from third with less than 2-outs!
Oops, Mr. NORTON’s done in 2009. FA in 2010. He better pick it up now. Guess that’s why he’s being sent up by COX. To see if he should be signed or dropped for ‘10.

Dear cphizzle, As a REAL former Marlins season ticket holder, I can vouch that they only draw the first year. After that–unless they are in SERIOUS contention in September–they are back to 10,000. It’s a travesty but one that has provided more World Championships in last 12 years than the Indians, Brewers, Astros, Giants, Rockies, Rays, Nats/Expos, Mariners and Braves have won COMBINED in the last 50 years!!! Is that scary??
At what point does winning become more important than getting Greg Norton at bats? No one on the bench can really believe that Greg Norton is a better hitter this year than everyone else left on the bench last night. Complete garbage.
That move is about as bad as not scoring a runner from third with 1 out. Also garbage.

Why would the Braves ever sell? They have a manager who is 68 years old. The star of the team is 37. The time to win is now. There won’t be selling, ever. Not with Cox and Chipper around. They want to win.
BTW- Santana going tonight. Hopefully the Mets keep their end of the bargain up. You guys beat the Marlins and the Mets close ground on a number of WC contenders this week.
Soriano needs to “man up”. He is having a great season and no one expects him to be perfect. Do the darn interview and move on! A long snapper is never interviewed in his entire career unless he botches a snap. You don’t see those guys hiding when they are asked why they screwed up…be a man Sori and hopefully you have a short memory because we need you!
When Hudson is ready to go here is what they should do!

This way you can utilize both of them and not over work them. The rest of the starters should not be messed with!
and why is Greg Norton on the team? He either strikes out or hits into double plays every single time he hits. And how has his average went up from the time he came back from the DL? I watch every game and have seen him only get one hit in his first game back that was a softly hit grounder between short and 3rd base. Do they include his hits from Gwinnett?
We were lucky to get any kind of major league talent for Frenchy. He’s doing better in New York because that team is falling apart. There’s no pressure. He was not a piece we could use to make a serious playoff run. Blame Bobby and TP all you want, but he’s just not a clutch player. Church isn’t the answer, but he’s not an automatic out either.
And as if the game wasn’t agitating enough, my iPod didn’t count as being listened to any of the 100+/- songs I listened to between yesterday and early this morning…and my browser is now updated–I so liked the old version better! Not too mention the Braves are still playing the Marlins…
Randy Johnson looks done with a shoulder tear. Do the Giants get in the pitching derby?
Yanks will watch Joba very, very closely tonight. They need to decide if he’s ready to be one of “the guys”. If not they might enter the derby.
The Red Sox and Phillies are clearly in. Rumors that the Dodgers are looking. Hovering where the Braves are could be a curse. Sure is a sellers market for pitchers. Halladay and Lee seem to be very expensive. Braves lose tonight and Wren might have some soul searching to do in the next 48 hours.
Church, while not an amazing talent, playes like a pro. I would take a guy with less “potential” but knows what he’s doing over a guy who swings at pitches over his head, and can’t decide if he wants to hit for power or average meanwhile accomplishing neither.
Me too McFann. Not because of the marlins but because of the endless stream of Francophiles and Mets/Marlins/Philly trolls with their oh so clever remarks.
Maybe we can get Roman Gal and cabraves to join us. 4 mad women can take over the world most days.
The game last night is on the Braves offense for not scoring runs when they should have. Soriano is due an off night, but the homerun last night should have never ended the game, and probably shouldn’t even have tied it.
3rd inning – 1st and 2nd 1 out, Chipper and McCann strike out, no runs scored.
4th inning – 1st and 2nd 0 outs – (should bunt, but we don’t know how) Kotchman gets one runner over
4th inning – 1st and 3rd 1 out – Church gounds into DP – 0 runs score
7th inning – runner on 1st 1 out – pinch hit .120 hitter for a .160 hitter – .120 hitter grounds into DP
8th inning – Best, fastest runner on 1st 0 outs – best bunter strikes out, Chipper and McCann make outs – 0 runs scored
Can anyone tell me why Norton is still on this team? Veteran pinch hitter or not, he has not been getting the job done at all. I would much rather have a more inexperienced Brooks Conrad in there hitting into a double play than a guy we KNOW will hit into a double play.
You guys should hear sports radio up here….delusional Met fans think Francoeur is a beast. They’re saying that they will get hot and make a run at the playoffs.
if the braves are content just to have the chance to make the playoffs, they should stand pat..if they want to have a chance to win playoff games, they need another bat…not another church, kotch, GA, bat but a real bat….
i guess not that it matters much, this team is incapable of catching the phils, but it looks like the phils might be making a huge move soon, whether it be halladay or lee… they have pulled Carlos Carrasco, Jason Donald and Lou Marson, the 3 prospects being discussed in trade talks from tonights lineup. Carrasco was scheduled to start the game. so it doesn’t sound like a coincidence that they are not playing.
How can any Mets fan show up here with any pride? What could possibly be good about being a Mets fan right now? “Castillo hits good” ooooooh! You have a hideously underachieving franchise, and an embarrassment of a front office. You put an All Star at almost every position and you still bloooooowwww! I would take Braves problems over Mets problems any day.
I believe that’s the same line you used on me when I repeatedly told you Glavine was done and you kept drudging up some weak argument about “quality starts” in 2007. Well, at least that was your stance until the Braves unceremoniously dumped Glavine earlier this year and then you advised that he really hadn’t pitched that well since very early in 2007. You felt my thoughts on Glavine were just self serving drivel then too. So be it.
As for your sarcasm on Halladay and Lee – Hey, the Santana sweepstakes “seemed” expensive until the Mets got him for all those prospects they don’t have so I’ve learned to never take anything for granted.
WHile the WC looks like our best shot, I wouldn’t (yet anyway) rule out the EAst.The Phillies are hotter than us but they will come back to Earth eventually, we just have to tread water till they do. They have 8 games left with Houston and 4 with the BRewers in September not to mention several with the Giants who have great pitching. I could easily envision them just playing .500 ball for a large part of August and September. Throw in an injury here and there and who knows. We however, can’t afford to let many (if any) games like last night get away from us.
RHRMe too…because of the endless stream of Francophiles and Mets/Marlins/Philly trolls with their oh so clever remarks.
Ugh…yeah. Best to scroll passed those. Annoying…
Maybe we can get Roman Gal and cabraves to join us. 4 mad women can take over the world most days.
Yeah…where are they?
MFin043rd inning – 1st and 2nd 1 out, Chipper and McCann strike out, no runs scored.
Oh please…ANYTHING but that!!
I. Hate. STRIKEOUTS!! ESPECIALLY with RISP/2 outs! And if the balls are OUTSIDE THE STRIKE-ZONE, it makes me madder…and if you swing and miss, well, forget it…yuck.
It’s one thing if they acquire Cliff Lee. It’d really suck if they did it without giving up Dominic Brown AND Kyle Drabek. Can’t really think why the Indians would consider a deal like this, but who knows, Phils have a deep system.
Jair Outdueled???? he gave up 2 runs!!!! and those 2 runs should have been zero runs, Garret lost a ball(or thought it was a homerun) in the lights if you didnt see the play!
RHR/McFann – cabravesfan should be along soon to help you out (I’m glad she didn’t see the Tebow post earlier) – I seem to remember that she had an extra stop to make on her way to work this morning.
All your all stars are hurt, but you had Reyes, Beltran, Delgado, Santana, Wagner, Wright, and other all star types over the last couple of years. What did you guys do with it? Nothing. If a Phils fan wants to come here with that mess, they can at least say the won the big one. I’d sincerely rather be the Nats than the Mets right now. Bad contracts, hurt players, no heart, AWFUL GM, no direction. Wait til Minaya gets fired, then ask the Yankees if you can come out to play.
Anders, remember that Soriano contract extension by Wren? I seem to remember you destroying that move. Looks like it panned out, seeing as Soriano has been one of the best relief pitchers in baseball.(by no means am I jumping all over you, but you did say that….)
The team needed some insurance runs last night. Soriano has saved their butts many times and it would have been nice if they had him
some room for error. It is the teams responsibility.

and why is Greg Norton on the team?

So I’m on the warpath…Bloggers beware.

8th inning – Best, fastest runner on 1st 0 outs – best bunter strikes out, Chipper and McCann make outs – 0 runs scored

i guess not that it matters much, this team is incapable of catching the phils, but it looks like the phils might be making a huge move soon, whether it be halladay or lee… they have pulled Carlos Carrasco, Jason Donald and Lou Marson, the 3 prospects being discussed in trade talks from tonights lineup. Carrasco was scheduled to start the game. so it doesn’t sound like a coincidence that they are not playing.

How can any Mets fan show up here with any pride? What could possibly be good about being a Mets fan right now? “Castillo hits good” ooooooh! I would take Braves problems over Mets problems any day.

Right. Keep telling yourself that (DOB)
