Norton = Automatic Out. But at least its off the bench, one out, as opposed to Frenchy when he was 3 or 4 outs as a starter. Norton should be released immediately. Canizares would be a better pinch-hitter.

Oh, you mean his career .337 wOBA (marginally above average, and worse than Kelly’s career mark) and 0.5 UZR/150 in the outfield? Yeah, like I missed that. On the contrary, I think you missed it. Bye bye.

For crying out we need that guy. Are we ever going to have a full season with both he and Prado?
It almost doesn’t even seem fair that we should have two equally talented guys who are ostensibly bench players but are good enought to play just about anywhere.
I guess that’s why we’ve been deprived of having them play the full year healthy at the same time.

The only problem is….is that its Greg Norton’s job to come off the bench for maybe one AB a game…
And this year…he doesn’t have it…when you can’t hit a fastball in ANY league…its time to say good-bye

Rob from SC……it doesnt surprise me. It happens to good players all the time. That is why I dont trip when they struggle. When they turn it around, they TURN it around.
Also, I’ve seen enough of a player like Diaz to not trip on some of his “wild man swings”. There will come a time later in the game when he will RIP one is a critical situation.

Steve from OH: You are a KJ and Greg Norton fan? And you have the nerve to try and criticize GA by ‘comparing him to the rest of the league’? Puh-leese. You cannot be serious. KJ stinks compared to Prado let along the other 2B in the league. Norton stinks compared to anybody (including my sorry hitting self).
GA was a great pickup given our reluctance to spend any real dollars and due to our desire to have someone hold the fort until the AA level outfield prospects we have are ready for the Show.

At this point, I’d probably trade Kelly (if the Braves’ scouts are telling me good things about Prado’s swing and pitch recognition, think he can hit righties consistently, play average defense, etc., which I think he can) because Prado will make the league minimum and is really impressing the hell out of me right now. If they decide to keep Kelly we’ll know why though.

Steve from OH………….The Braves have above average production at the catcher and shortstop positions. For what we are playing Anderson, I feel that his production is just fine.
However, for what we are paying Kelly (which is $325K more), what we are getting SUCKS.

I just tuning into this blog…and I am amazed how down everyone is on Kelly Johnson. Yes…he was in a awful slump, but players go through that.
If you look at the relatively short time he has been an everyday 2nd baseman (2yrs) . He has hit
276 and 287, respectively with16 and then 12 hrs. I don’t, but i believe that would be above average offensive numbers for a 2nd baseman in NL?????

KJ stinks compared to Prado let along the other 2B in the league.

I think we can all agree that Mr. Norton’s time will be up when Infante returns (hopefully). There is no good reason for Bobby to continue to beat this dead horse. He CLEARLY doesn’t have it anymore and to put Norton in crucial pinch hitting situations is a travesty. Please cut him now!

Earlier Braves announcers were trying to remember when a Brewer last won a Gold Glove, and it was Robin Yount in 1984. Except for the big guy playing first today, and we know he will not win one today, they sure have exhibited poor defense. Something along the Gross Glove award.

Of course since you qualified the heck out of you answer, let’s say we keep KJ at second(with Bobby, it’s very possible) how would you go about trading Prado then for help? How would you get around the salary limit?
Or would you trade Infante? He has a higher salary point.
As GM, you have to listen to your scouts, but you also have o listen to the beancounters too, right?
