WOW. Mets GM Omar Minaya is blaming Reporter Adam Rubin for the firing of Bernazard. He says he only published the reports because he wanted a job in player development. You know, not because it’s his job as a reporter to report the news. Rubin said after he doesn’t know how he can cover the team anymore after Minaya’s accusations. Ladies and Gents, the NY MELTDOWN 09 HAS OFFICIALLY BEGUN!!!!!!!! I say Minaya is fired within a month.

He’s hit some HR this year (mainly because he’s stronger than dirt), but he doesn’t really have a swing conducive to hitting 30 of them. (SCOOTS)

true he keeps that front shoulder tucked down all the time. He does have great strength but ain’t gonna hit a ton of dingers with his present mechanics. And I agree that he has above average range, though not the best around. I have warmed even more to him over the last two years. I hope he can stay happy cause he is a bit of a pouter at times.

To the previous fan who said G. Anderson hasn`t made a bad play in LF. We could put anybody from the 25 man roster out there and they could do a better job of getting to the ball.

I couldn’t agree more.. You don’t realize how slow he really is until you are watching him play in person being only 75 feet away from him.. He is slower then molasses in the winter time and approaches every ball in the same manner, turtle mode..

I also read all the time how he goes about his business in a professional manner and how he never gets into any kind of trouble.. That very well may be true, but he pouts in the outfield all the time.. I am glad that he will only be around for this season..

Fred, thanks for the number and the reminder about that low-flow rebate. I’m in Dekalb, too….

I’m not hearing Braves involved in any significant trade discussions right now. And it’s felt like that for a couple of weeks, since they started playing better ball, and particularly since they started hitting better. If they make a move for a major-league piece, it’d be for a reliever, I think. They could certainly use another bullpen arm….

Just got home and did a scout box for Marlins series. Quite the matchup tomorrow with Jurrjens and Nolasco, two of the NL’s hottest pitchers right now. Check it:

Jurrjens is 3-0 with a 1.37 ERA and .152 opponents’ average in his past three starts, allowing just 10 hits in 19-2/3 innings. He had a nine strikeouts while allowing three hits and one walk in 7-2/3 innings Wednesday vs. San Francisco.

Nolasco is 5-1 with a 2.75 ERA and .199 opponents’ average in his past eight starts, with 64 strikeouts and 10 walks in 52-1/3 innings. He worked 6-1/3 scoreless innings (two hits) with 10 strikeouts to win Wednesday at San Diego.

However … He’s 0-4 in his past five starts against the Braves, including 0-3 with a 10.57 ERA in three last season (none in 2009).

Chipper Jones is 9-for-16 with three homers against him, Brian McCann is 7-for-19 with two homers, and Yunel Escobar is 5-for-10 with a homer.

Top pitching prospects reside in AA mostly. Look for Heyward to become a permanent OF after Sept.1 (Rock On)

Maybe so, but you see a whole lot more and consistently better breaking stuff in AAA than in AA. The high talent level of the few do not make up for the depth on AAA teams. It definitely does help hitters to get AAA experience no matter what a few say who are overly impressed with the fact that a few of best prospects spend more time in AA but ignore the fact that a hitter will see consistently better day to day to day pitching in AAA. The top one or two pitchers on a roster might be elite beyond AAA though many of them will still spend at least a bit of time in AAA. The other 10 pitchers on each team are gonna be better for the most part than the 10 corresponding ones in AA. A hitter might easily miss the elite few most of the time in a season but day after day he is gonna have to hit against the rest who are usually a bit better than AA. I find it hard to believe that fans can’t understand the difference and buy into that AA is tougher than AAA garbage. having been there and watched both levels it just ain’t true.

Hey, I’ve defended Minaya’s Met’s team record on here but what’s transpired off the field the last couple of weeks is almost unfixable for him in this media environment. Wilpon has to can him -soon.

To ncscoots and the rest of you who trashed my 1:00 am post last night:

Like Derek Jeter, there is a lot of mythology surrounding Yunel Escobar’s defense. Real scouting reports from the past two years have Escobar as having a plus arm and middling range. In short, if it’s hit to him, he usually makes the plays. However, his range is not top-flight as many of the SS’s in this league can get to balls that Escobar usually can’t get to – especially up the middle (to his left). His plus arm means that he can make plays in the hole that helps to justify his playing SS. That said, he has sufficient power potential (25-30) in the “new climate” (supposed rigid PED testing) to play third after Chipper’s time is up.

Just because he was on ESPN’s highlight reel this week does not mean he’s a top notch SS. We saw Rafael Furcal play SS in Atlanta, and that is the standard for top level SS play. Just because Escobar has a high RISP average and is clutch does not mean he is a top-notch fielder. Like Jeter, he makes the plays he’s supposed to make, but anyone in NY will tell you Jeter never had plus range – which ticked off a generation of Yankee pitchers.

Hell, Elvis Andrus has way better range than Escobar. Escobar is just a bit too big for the position to be quick and agile. I am sure he would welcome a change to third when Chipper’s time is up.

Personally, I have never been overly impressed w/ Escobar’s range. I think he has OK range, but not great. I seem to watch him miss a lot of balls that, when hit, I find myself saying Yunel is going to get to that one, but alas, he falls over and barely misses a lot of them.

He might be our 3B of the future. So now, we need to get some SS prospects in the pipeline. Hicks can pick ‘em, but will he hit enough? The new kid Mycal Jones (I think I got that right) might also be a possibility.

I also took hundreds of pics of the Olympic torch-run (a couple of myself holding the torch) through GA in 2006. I knew something strange would happen somewhere along the way, but when extreme madness invariably took place, I was around 10-minutes late.

The torch was scheduled to come through Buchanan, GA, at around dusk. It was late, as was I, and didn’t arrive until well after dark. When I arrived the place was abuzz. I thought I’d missed it.. Then I found out I’d missed something MUCH better! After sundown, some hillbilly/redneck (not me of course….dangitt) lit a mop and came prancing through the darkness toward the waiting throngs downtown. The crowd, from all accounts (thinking this was legit torch) went WILD! Then, when they realized the deception, they broke into a combination of laughter, clapping, cheering, and boos.

I was like a reporter begging for every detail.. lol

Imagine if you are FW. You are thinking, I don’t want to screw this young kid up, so I am going to be patient with him. BUT, if we get close, patience be damned, I’ll bring him up so fast….. But, I better keep my lips zipped, I sure as heck don’t want to screw up the kids or get a gazillion questions about when I am bringing the kid up.

If you could look into his head, I bet you would find similar thoughts like those. Never say never.

UT Wayne: Thank you. I think Escobar is a fine player, just mis-cast as a SS. We’ve seen better SS play in Atlanta in the past.

Dogs: We agree to disagree. I pretty sure I know what I see.

Thanks!

Wayne I think I’ll try to get my son to go to Photobucket and put up some of his work.

You should! I’d like to see it!

He kinda quit doing much of anything here at home. Everything had to be very quiet.

Oh. I see.

Thanks!

I’m a big fan of foxes- any chance I could get you to do one for me?

Hmm…I think that could be arranged! I’d just need to know where to send it.

Mets have a fairly easy schedule coming in the next couple of weeks. Maybe they will beat the Rockies, and lose badly against the Padres and D’backs.

FW sure isn’t worried about us or other GM’s getting the scoop on what he wants to do, ya know.

We all want to know, but it just ain’t happening.

has anyone noticed that the braves have won each of the last 7 games that chipper jones has not appeared in? (DAP)

I wasn’t aware it was exactly 7 but I have been aware of the trend. Whether it means much or is just coincidence is open to debate I guess, but it’s a nice change from the last few years. Part of that might be because he isn’t contributing as much when he is in there this year and they have stepped up some.

nolie (aka manolin): On target; this is not a Chipper year so far.

Let’s see if he blows up in Aug. and Sept. like he did during the MVP year.
