I know one thing when the braves do have a good chance to get a big inning we always settle on 1 run cause we cant move runners over or hit into double plays or have baserunning mistakes, The double plays have been down since Jeff was traded tho

Allowing the fake throw to 3B….is probably the ‘dumbest’ rule in baseball…I would do it on every other pitch… with runners on 1st and 3rd….nothin’ to lose…especially with a runner that MIGHT run on 1B….If pitchers would do it enough…baseball would HAVE to change the rule !!

I gotta admit Counsell at 39 is a good ballplayer, he plays hard every game and can play alot of positions and he is doing well, considering most people say he is a utility guy

In paying attention to the Phillies here over the last 2-3 weeks, I’ve had a lot of bad thoughts about what it will be like for our bullpen to try and shut down their offense the last few innings of games in CBP.
Thankfully, we only have 3 games left this season in Philadelphia.

If the pitcher does the ‘fake throw” often enough…the runner on 1B can’t possibly get any kind of jump from 1B…has to wait til the pitch is almost delivered…so…do it enough… and NOBODY will run on the pitch…actually it’s even worth doin’ with 3-2 and 2 outs…cuts down a couple of steps on the runner at 1B…DUMB rule…

I hate to agree with what N Nine said but it’s true. They can’t lose. They don’t need Halladay to win the east, they’ll win it with Happ Hamels Moyer and whoever those other guys are. Their offense and their high school field is more than enough to make up for their lack of starting pitching. Braves have to have both good pitching and good offense to win for whatever reason. Maybe if we had started the season with the regular lineup we have now we’d be in the thick of it but unfortunately we had to wait out the 2 month Jeff and Kelly experiment. At least it didn’t last all season, I guess.

I think we should wait awhile before go throw dirt on John Smoltz’s career. Let’s see how he’s pitching come the last 6 weeks of the season.
I’m mad that he left, but I not convinced he’s done. Need more time to decide that, just like we needed more time before calling it a season for the Braves.

I do think Kotchman should win the gold glove and he is only a 280. 10 hr 60ish rbi type of hitter.
Barborosa would give us more power but less hits and downgrade defense as well.

Kirk, of course you’re right…but early returns don’t look good. Combine that with Glavine’s low 80s velocity and Hanson’s first eight starts, and Wren looks like a guy unafraid to take the heat for unpopular, tough decisions.
He clearly made the right ones with Glavine, Smoltz and Hanson.

Yeah, if we got a good prospect back it would be more defensible for sure, but if you’re gonna trade them a starting position player than has been, over his career, above average with the bat (which, given his position, is more valuable), I’d hope that we’d be able to get more than just a reliever, if you get my drift…
I’d want a good prospect back, definitely.
