Actually very very good point Heath!
Forgot we were playing the Dodgers next…
I think Martin is the better player, but if he starts playing looking over his shoulder for Kelly, then he will struggle and KJ will be back in there. Gotta give Cox credit for starting him today.
So it what 10-2…time to bring in Soriano right????
July 26th, 20094:48 pm
F&%$ you, Paul Lentz.
I will Co-Sign On your last post…!
I told you people Kelly would have a day today.
Prado’s fine. KJ’s just having a good day at the same time Martin’s having a bad one. No big deal.
Use KJ’s bat while he’s hot. Marteeeen should never lose his starting job. KJ can give everyone a day off.
An even rarer name.
There are pockets of Nortons in Virginia, NC, SC, and Georgia. The ones in my local phonebook are all related to me.
July 26th, 20094:49 pm
You know what you don’t understand? One of the most basic theorems of baseball. Players in their 20’s get better, players in their 30’s get worse. Of course this isn’t a hard and fast rule. But in general, players in their 20’s get better, players in their 30’s get worse. Kelly Johnson is getting better. Garret Anderson is getting worse. Get it through your head, please.
Paul You might also add that clutch performance by the
Aussie. The point though is that if we have these good sized leads, there is less pressure on the Starting pitchers and everyone else
I paused my TV right after Kotchman’s walk.
Okay, he can stay.
Great to see Medlen in there instead of Soriano….
Good time to trade KJ.
Yay, no need for Soriano. Probably going to need him a couple of times in FLA.
Medlen getting some work.
Wow…didn’t even realize it was the ninth!
Skool that punk Steve Paul! He’s yo biatch on the real tip.
Marc from FL
Man this makes 3 games in the last four that I not only called a homer, but who hit it and for how many runs. There has to be a way I can make money from this gift! Oh wait, I’ll just keep using it to baffle Paul! I was wrong about it being a 1 run game, but not gonna complain about that.
Jman (Yunel is a Saint!)
Some of us have forgotten just how good Infante was before going down… He was our leadoff hitter and was hitting well over .300… I’ll take him and his consistency over KJ ANY day of the week.
Steve from OH
July 26th, 20094:50 pm
Johnson and Prado are both better than Infante.
Agreed! But, IMO, we need to keep Infante because we need a backup SS, and I don’t know about you folks, I don’t want a repeat of the Diory Hernandez Experience next year…
White Sox NEED a 2B. Bad.
OK lets see who Joe loves more, Kris or Kelly.
McFann ;Ô; 4:41 pm …”abwright–I just hate bases-loaded DP’s–especially when the guy shoulda been called safe.
Since it wasn’t really a double play, it shouldn’t sting that much. Just blame the umps.
I doubt that one missing RBI is going to keep BMac out of the HoF. Although, I’m sure you could remind the sports-writers, when the time comes, that BMac really had 1 million and 1 RBI instead of just 1 million.
KJ is doing good job looks like he the new starting 2nd baseman since prado has been struggling. One of them must be traded with Omar coming back
Are you serious? Or just joking around? Prado has struggled for two games. KJ struggled for half a friggin season.
Looks like the Dodgers are trying to get VMart and Lee, the Phills are looking into Lee more now because his price tag isnt as high as Doc’s
No…don’t think KJ should start over Prado, but the beauty is how versatile Marteen is….you can play him at first and third to get KJ some at bats. You could also put KJ in left also???
Gives Bobby some great options??? Or Wren some ammunition to pull off a good trade?
Rob from SC
SHould have caught that
Loaf Come On!!!
Okay, Kelly can stay.
Norton and Diory need to hit the road.
Still no grand slams
July 26th, 20094:51 pm
Bobby will now be convinced that his boy Kelly has come around. You did a great job Martin, but you’re proably about to go back to riding the bench.
I’m Kidding Salamander lol i was acting like Bobby Cox……
Good for BRian and KJ, but it was Casey’s Hr that has been the big blow today, give him some props!
Steve from OH
There is room for all three infielders on this team. Would like to see KJ play a little LF
Didnt someone call KJ having a 3/4 night earlier. Good production, gotta give you your due. Hopefully KJ can keep it up so we can send him packing.
July 26th, 20094:52 pm
Whoa. Nice play Esco! Loving the D from him these days.
what about a replay FSSO?
Rob–exactly. If we don’t get what we want for him we don’t have to trade him. There are a lot of ways to get him at-bats while Prado still starts everyday…
WHITE SOX GET:
2B Kelly Johnson
1B Casey Kotchman
SP Kris Medlen
1B Paul Konerko
RP Octavio Dotel
Paul Lentz…looks like all of your predictions are coming true. KJ has killed the team since he got back.
July 26th, 20094:53 pm
“”No, you idiot, it’s because that I think (and many of smart folks, including Shamus, and the GMs of Boston, Pittsburgh, Seattle and on and on) feel that evaluating players based on silly things like counting stats like hits and RBI is a really gosh-damned stupid way to look at things.”"
Steve, I amended this paragraph for you. I knew it was merely an oversight.
All I'm Saying Is...
And let the record show that the comment from Paul Lentz at 4:43 p.m. went ‘BOOM!’ and down went Steve from OH and his off base rants…and just to pile on…
Steve from OH: Boy, you are a genious (and obviously KJ’s agent). OF COURSE the Braves are going to non-tender either Church or GA as we didn’t sign GA for the long term (hello, one year deal) and we only took on Church to get rid of Frenchy (since Bobby wouldn’t stop playing him). And you are spouting off your usual nonsense if you think we should trade Prado. I hope KJ rebounds enough so we can trade him. And, hopefully, Schafer will get his act together and maybe one of our other AA outfielders will be ready so we can plop one of them in left and maybe use Nate as trade bait too. Heck, going into 2010, I’d trade KJ and Nate for Adam Dunn’s sorry fielding self just to get more power into the line-up.
MArtin Prado has been our MVP so far this year! Remember his 3 run jack that gave us the lead Friday?
By the way Mixxo, Med looks medicated today.
July 26th, 20094:54 pm
McLouth is a goofingly great outfielder isn’t he? Esco got the glove thing going. You kow if he gets his head on straight he could someday be an MVP
UNCBrave, Do you ever calculate salary or just faces? NO NO NO
UNCBrave: I like the way you are thinking! Let’s do it! Someone get Wren on the phone while I hold Kenny Williams down and make him say yes.
If everyone plays to their potential, that works for everyone.
Seriously KJ gets Traded within 5 days “Bank On It!”
D.O.B. will elaborate on that more before the trade deadline….
Prado is a better hitter at the #2 role, plays better defense at multiple positions and KJ is due for a raise in Salary next year. We can’t have that type of money eating up our roster…
KJ well be dealt, “Bank On It!”
I’m not hating on KJ and I love the guy, but that is the economics of the game plus we are in a WC race!
July 26th, 20094:55 pm
Nice way to end it!
Awesome play to end it. Good job Bravos!
“Lee would replace either left-hander Clayton Kershaw or right-hander Chad Billingsley — it is not known which the Dodgers would part with in the package — giving manager Joe Torre the more experienced starter that he covets.”
I have to figure that if the Dodgers agree to send Loney and one of Billingsley/Kershaw, a deal gets done quick. Those 2 with a couple of top prospects being discussed, the Indians would have to do it. The Dodgers like it because they control both Lee and V-mart for next year as well.
BallGame! “Because 2 out of 3 ain’t bad!”
And I meant to spell genious that way for your Steve cuz I knew you would not know the right way (genius).
and that Wren is under the radar right now.
July 26th, 20094:56 pm
UNCBrave, I don’t think I like that trade. Maybe Kj straight up for Octavio Dotel, but Medlen may be our backup starter next year (and odds are we’ll need a backup starter at some point), and Konerko is not a good .AVG hitter. He’s pulling it off somehow this year, but his history would suggest he’ll eventually go back to .260 hitter sometime this year, and we’ll lose good defense in the process.
I liked Dotel last time we had him though, a KJ for Dotel trade wouldn’t be bad.
And you are spouting off your usual nonsense if you think we should trade Prado.
You simply cannot comprehend what you read, can you?
UNCBrave that trade looks good considering The Angels got Tex for Kotchman and A nobody, The money doesnt work for the trade to go down. Dotel makes more than all 3 of our guys and konerko makes more than all 3 put together
Good Game Bravos
and oh yeah, Loaf
Braves win! Remember how everyone said on Friday afternoon that 2 of 3 would be great? Well we got it. The next series is WAY more important, gotta take it to the Fish!
Tomahawkin: I agree with both of your last two posts (4:55 and 4:54). Have a sam adams for me and enjoy your evening!
Never mind on my question on Fielder after this game. Not that I ever expected a straight answer from a blog mod anyway. He’s a non-issue from here on out. Could care less what the miserable, fat, bastage does….
Great ballgame !!
Lets get the fish!
July 26th, 20094:57 pm
Suck on that Lentz!!!
Chipper or Kotchman have to sit on Tuesday, so that Kelly and Prado can both play.
For the record, go back to the old blog. I called KJ’s big day.
Where are all these Konerko rumors coming from??? i can’t see them trading him while they are tied for first in their division???
We did what we need to do in Milwaukee…2/3…Tip of the cap to the Braves.
We need to do the same in Florida…I don’t see us sweeping there or against LA…But we need some W’s
uncbrave………ummm dotel is making 6M and konerko is making 12M…please use your brain
RHR…..but if you look at Garret’s numbers from 2000-2003, one can SAFELY ASSUME that Kelly Johnson WILL NEVER have a 4 year stretch like that.
Let’s just take a look.
When Kelly Johnson has ONE season rivaling those numbers……..as opposed to 4 STRAIGHT…………then get back to me Steve from OH.
July 26th, 20094:58 pm
Mets doing us a favor today. Beat the Astros.
Paul Lentz…..saying all KJ did was hit a meaningless HR is totally unfair. I believe he is 4-5 with a BB since he came back. You don’y like him, fine, but be fair, he’s done all you could ask this weekend.
Yeah…these umps have been bad this year.
Although, I’m sure you could remind the sports-writers, when the time comes, that BMac really had 1 million and 1 RBI instead of just 1 million.
But I’d have to say 1 million and 2 RBI instead of 1 million. Remember, that “error” called on Utley in game two of the season cost BMac an RBI.
July 26th, 20094:59 pm
dumb move by the Dodgers to give up Billingsley or Kershaw
Yeah, the kid looked good.
Guess he’s settlin’ down. Startin’ to season in.
BTW–Great win, boys!
All I’m Saying Is, ummm, i don’t think lentz convinced anyone of anything in his post to steve from oh…steve from oh is correct…where did you come from anyway? are you lentz’s cousing, mother, or lentz himself…not very often two people come along that think the way you two do…
July 26th, 20095:00 pm
Now if SF can find a way to beat the Rockies…
GTI in Chicago
Guess Carol was right about her assessment of the clubhouse after last night’s game. The guys were just out, but not down. Good to see the bats bounce back this afternoon.
July 26th, 20095:01 pm
Why are you talking to me, Paul? I don’t care about the KJ or Loaf debate. I just said no, you didn’t “own” Steve.
July 26th, 20095:02 pm
Greg Norton still sucks. Film at 11.
UNCBrave, now that trade would violate PWHjort ’s basic baseball theorem that baseball players get better in their 20’s and not in their 30’s. That trade has all 20-somethings leaving and getting all 30-somethings in return and the salaries don’t match up.
The Braves aren’t going to take on a lot of salary, if any. Those players combined make $18 million. Dotel walks this offseason..again! And Konerko is a FA after next season.
Not a good trade for the Braves even if payroll wasn’t an issue.
Brewers would’ve gotten shutout if KJ wasn’t in the game
July 26th, 20095:03 pm
Lentz…only one getting pwned today is you buddy. You can thank KJ.
njbraves………….Kelly Johnson needs to have FAR MORE than just one good game before I will admit being wrong about him. One game isnt going to make me forget the .214 batting average in the 1st half of the season.
All I’m Saying Is…
Cool, Bro, Glad we cleared the air…Lets Squash the argument about “Loaf”
BTW I need a Samuel Jackson Right Now…
Paul Lentz, that’s not the point and comparing raw offensive numbers of a LF in his prime 8 years ago to a middle IF getting ready to reach his prime won’t prove your point either. Actually, nothing will prove your point…because you are wrong.
July 26th, 20095:04 pm
KJ wasn’t getting it done and he had plenty of time. As long as Prado remains the starter and KJ is a fill-in, I’m fine with him playing. I’d prefer they bring Conrad back and let KJ become our Norton as well.
LET’S GO BRAVES — SQUISH THE FISH!
You could put a handle on Greg (Ed) Norton, and vacuum the floor with him.
Derek Lowe, a six inning pitcher every fifth day for 15million a year. Nice work if you can get it!
Can anyone explain what’s happening here? Which the moves made so far this year, our defense really shouldn’t be that much better than it was in the first half, yet it’s looking much better. Offense hasn’t really changed much since the first half, yet it’s hitting much better in the clutch and for more power. Our pitching is freaking unreal right now.
I’ll chop it off as vets settling in and contributing the way they know how, but I’m starting to think the baseball gods just decided we had enough bad luck this year and removed our curse.
I think it’s NOT crazy….to keep Prado, Infante AND KJ on the roster…still a looong way to go…injuries happen…Now…IF you can get some very beneficial benefit from trading KJ…go for it… I just don’t think KJ is goin’ anywhere….
I hope KJ starts at 2nd on Tuesday just so we can see 25 pages of complaints and Bobby Cox bashing.
July 26th, 20095:05 pm
Hampton is hitting .313 this year. Maybe we can trade for him and get a hitter AND anothet good arm
OK, where can I look up MLB salaries? Substitute another reliever for Dotel omn the White Sox that’s cheaper…
Also, The Dodgers will trade Billingsley…..Billingsley and Loney for V-Mart and Lee is a HUGE advantage for the Dodgers. Can’t imagine why INDIANS would do that???
Did I just say beneficial “benefit?….
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
