Paul Lentz,
You know what you don’t understand? One of the most basic theorems of baseball. Players in their 20’s get better, players in their 30’s get worse. Of course this isn’t a hard and fast rule. But in general, players in their 20’s get better, players in their 30’s get worse. Kelly Johnson is getting better. Garret Anderson is getting worse. Get it through your head, please.

Steve from OH: Boy, you are a genious (and obviously KJ’s agent). OF COURSE the Braves are going to non-tender either Church or GA as we didn’t sign GA for the long term (hello, one year deal) and we only took on Church to get rid of Frenchy (since Bobby wouldn’t stop playing him). And you are spouting off your usual nonsense if you think we should trade Prado. I hope KJ rebounds enough so we can trade him. And, hopefully, Schafer will get his act together and maybe one of our other AA outfielders will be ready so we can plop one of them in left and maybe use Nate as trade bait too. Heck, going into 2010, I’d trade KJ and Nate for Adam Dunn’s sorry fielding self just to get more power into the line-up.

from Rosenthal:

“Lee would replace either left-hander Clayton Kershaw or right-hander Chad Billingsley — it is not known which the Dodgers would part with in the package — giving manager Joe Torre the more experienced starter that he covets.”

I have to figure that if the Dodgers agree to send Loney and one of Billingsley/Kershaw, a deal gets done quick. Those 2 with a couple of top prospects being discussed, the Indians would have to do it. The Dodgers like it because they control both Lee and V-mart for next year as well.

UNCBrave, I don’t think I like that trade. Maybe Kj straight up for Octavio Dotel, but Medlen may be our backup starter next year (and odds are we’ll need a backup starter at some point), and Konerko is not a good .AVG hitter. He’s pulling it off somehow this year, but his history would suggest he’ll eventually go back to .260 hitter sometime this year, and we’ll lose good defense in the process.

I liked Dotel last time we had him though, a KJ for Dotel trade wouldn’t be bad.

The Braves aren’t going to take on a lot of salary, if any. Those players combined make $18 million. Dotel walks this offseason..again! And Konerko is a FA after next season.

Can anyone explain what’s happening here? Which the moves made so far this year, our defense really shouldn’t be that much better than it was in the first half, yet it’s looking much better. Offense hasn’t really changed much since the first half, yet it’s hitting much better in the clutch and for more power. Our pitching is freaking unreal right now.
