All I’m Saying Is… – Loaf’s a nickname, not out of malice. Just a nickname. From what I understand, it started as a joke and caught on – so no need to take offense to it. Hell, I love GA and call him Loafy. Just habit now.
Hell, you’d be hard pressed to find a GM who would take Kelly over Garret right now.
This is a gross overstatment. They’ll prefer a 37-year old bad defender-average bat LF over a young 2B with good career numbers entering the prime of his career? Let’s see…St. Louis would prefer Kelly right now. There’s one. Bye bye, Dentz.
Steve from OH: “Are ya sure? Because his career numbers are better than the league which, unless I’m mistaken, include second basemen…”
Yes, I am sure and, Yes, you are mistaken.
[Also, glad to read you are not a Norton fan and wanted the Braves to keep Conrad instead as I really thought you had your thumb up your bum for a minute.]
Ashley: I don’t think the Braves pull off any “big” trade by Friday… I sure hope not. I think they have the talent to win the Wild Card and don’t wish to see any other young talent leave the team.
Soriano should come in the 9th, to give him some work. With the day off tomorrow, you dont want to have your close go 3 days between appearances. Soriano is the kind of guy who needs to pitch to stay sharp.
I understand the Dodgers wanting to win the WS, but I wouldn’t trade Kershaw for Lee straight up. I don’t see them trading Billingsley or Kershaw though.
Soph: Cool. Thanks for the explanation and glad to read that’s how you see it. Unfortunately, some people take a comment and make it into something else (which could apply to either me or Tomahawkin’, I suppose). In any case, GA is one of the reasons we are playing well and he’s doing the job as well as any 37 year older could (which is his real peer group not every other outfielder).
Steve from OH: Once again, you missed the pitch. Paul Lentz was not literally suggesting you could trade GA for KJ, he was simply saying you would be hard pressed to trade KJ to any other ML team whereas a playoff contender (especially in the AL where he could DH) would easily trade for and take on GA for the stretch run given how important a veteran bat would be at the trade deadline.
Kelly Johnson and Manny Acosta for Ryan Garko. RH bat wit pop. He can platoon with Kotch and play a little LF. Great PH with pop and cheap. Thoughts???
All I’m Saying Is… …I totally agree with your 4:31pm posting. Garret has almost 2,500 hits, and over 1,300 RBIs……..yet he thinks that because Kelly had a decent 2 year stretch, that he warrants all kinds of patience.
I dont care what the “stats” say about “production above position”, lol. I’d take Garret over Kelly ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.
A thought about KJ’s day hitting is that he has done it against right-handers. If he could hit righties like he does lefties which strangely for a lefty hitter, he does well, he might well be rejuvenated.
Hey…I am all for Prado at 2nd over KJ. Prado has always hit. He has a 313 career average in over 600ab while being a mostly a part time player. It is about time he got his shot as an everyday player.
I am just saying that KJ is definitely a decent major leaguer and don’t know why everyone is dogging him so much on here.
i think we will see him traded for decent bullpen arm before the deadline is over?
torre has his pitcher batting 8th…the marlins just walked the #7 hitter to put runners at 1st and 2nd to bring up the pitcher with 2 outs. personally, i think batting the pitcher 8th hardly ever pays off…
but I admit to being a Norton fan. Not for any numbers or stats. But because his name is in my family. Since it’s an uncommon name, I’d like to claim him in as a distant cousin or something.
Prince Fielder is suffering from the curse of the Home Run Derby. It is a mean-spirited and random curse that does not inflict its pain on every winner as sometimes its the more bally-hooed runner-up that gets hit (i.e. Josh Hamilton) with the pain of bad luck or a messed up swing.
McFann, tho there are some on here who won’t, I will give Brian that one. From what it sounds like, it was a close call. And having 2 doubles and a homer and an 8-2 lead, we can let him have one bad at bat. Still love the mann.1
how would you go about trading Prado then for help? How would you get around the salary limit?
Firstly, I don’t think his salary would be that big of a hurdle next year if they non-tender Church or let GA go, and I think at least one of those things happening is likely. Secondly, if they do trade Prado, that tells me one of two things: either A) their scouts aren’t sold on him long-term, i.e. they don’t think he can play good enough D, hit righties consistently, etc., and think Kelly can return to 2007-08 levels, which, if he does, makes a trade perfectly defensible or B) they get an offer they can’t refuse for Prado which, especially if parts of A are true (especially the one about Kelly), is really a no-brainer.
Prince Fielder is 1-for-12 this series with a single and six Ks. – Carroll Rogers
That in itself is a win-win to me.
Does that guy have some sort of history I don’t know about? Honestly, he looks like he’s not enjoying playing baseball at all. He could go 4 for 5 and still look like someone kicked his dog or something. ‘Sup with that guy?
Steve from OH……………uh, I kind of think that a play-off contender would want a “veteran, prove, consistent bat, play-off veteran” like Garret Anderson’s to go to battle in a pennent race……..than they would with a struggling, inconsistent, untested under pressure, young player like Kelly Johnson.
Oh, and by the way, Garret has a World Series ring. And…….by the way, in 638 at bats that year, he hit 56 doubles, 29 homers, 123 RBIs, while batting .306.
I can safely say that Kelly Johnson WILL NEVER have a year like that in his career.
“”but I admit to being a Norton fan. Not for any numbers or stats. But because his name is in my family. Since it’s an uncommon name, I’d like to claim him in as a distant cousin or something.”"

No, you idiot, it’s because that I think (and many of smart folks, including the GMs of Boston, Pittsburgh, Seattle and on and on) feel that evaluating players based on silly things like counting stats like hits and RBI is a really gosh-damned stupid way to look at things. And I thought you were a self-professed genius at baseball? Oh, wait…”self-professed.” That’s right…
Imagine if KJ were to come back around. Would give us some depth and allow us to bring conrad back up and have an awesome bench. Ross, Conrad, Infante, KJ and Diaz/Loaf
You know what though. In the first half of the seson we would have lost this game

Imagine if KJ were to come back around. Would give us some depth and allow us to bring conrad back up and have an awesome bench. Ross, Conrad, Infante, KJ and Diaz/Loaf
You know what though. In the first half of the seson we would have lost this game
