Holliday deal helped us out today. Matt got a hit in his first AB, stole a base, and was driven in to make it 1 to 0 Cards.

Big game tonight. Gotta take 2 of 3 from here. This game may set the tone for the rest of the series and if it’s a W for the Bravos it’ll make yesterday easier to forget and allow the players to get pumped to start another winning streak.

Player to watch in this series is McLouth. He, like Chipper, needs to get it going so he can set the table for the hot hitters behind him, Prado, Escobar, etc.

The asking price, apparently is J.A. Happ, Kyle Drabek and Dominic Brown for Roy Halladay. That isn’t nearly what I thought he was going to ask for. That’s surprising. Phils have to do that deal, right? I mean, that still means they keep Donald, Taylor, Carrasco, Knapp, etc. I really was expecting at least 5-6 prospects going Toronto’s way. Kind of like what we did for Tex.

TurnThePage ………..I’ve said this a number of times: I’m not the kind of fan who gets “panicky” over JUST one loss. However, there was more to yesterday than just THE LOSS. A number of events that has happened (since Greg Norton was activated and Gregor Blanco was sent down right before the All-Star Break)………leading up to Brooks Conrad being sent down when Kelly Johnson was called up before yesterday’s game…….has shown me that the team will soon be regressing.

A number of roster moves that are coming up will accelerate the demise of the season. Reason being, Bobby Cox is getting his way and getting “his boys” back. That is the bottom line here. The Braves can be winning or involved in a close game for the first 6-7 innings of a game (I love our line-up, our starting pitching, and our closer). However, the way Bobby has managed the bench and bullpen, and will continue to manage…….leads me to believe that our season is over with. It’s the close games (we arent going to keep winning games 9-2) that has me worried.

If the Phils trade for the Doc and it includes Happ, then we’re no worst off really, Happ has a better record against us this year than Halladay I believe. I’d be surprised if a deal doesn’t get done, the Phils lose a lot of payroll at the end of this year. Look at it this way though, maybe they’ll be the Mets in two years and not have enough depth to fill in for injured guys.

Come on, Paul Lentz

one loss doesn’t spell doom for the rest of the season. You’ve said you’ve been a Bravos fan since ‘82. Have a little faith.

It ain’t over til it’s over. I don’t agree with the decision to send Conrad down, but, the season’s not lost. I really don’t think that Bobby Cox is insane enough to bump Prado from the lineup in favor of KJ.

KJ will be a good off-the-bench guy and backup alternative. I really don’t think that Norton will be with tthe Braves that much longer.

There’s only so much suckiness a team can tolerate…

Paul Lentz

Original Jon………and I said that the ONLY WAY that the Braves win yesterday’s game is if Bobby went against his “style of managing”. So knowing that, if Bobby manages differently, then chances are that we win.

So, to answer your (and David O’brien’s) question again……..YES, If the Braves had won yesterday’s game, I would have felt differently. And the reason why winning yesterday’s game would have changed my outlook……..would have been the fact that Bobby managed the game differently then he normally does. And that would give me hope for the rest of the season.

If you really think that there was ANY WAY that we could have won the game yesterday without Bobby changing his style (you know, the kind of style that allows BUMS like Peter Moylan to CONTINUE to pitch in CRUCIAL situations)………then I dont know what else to say.

Frank from KS (now living in CO)

Paul you keep talking about KJ and Norton and neither one of them have seen enough playing time since the All-star break to significantly factor into any wins or losses. And if you watch the game against the Giants yesterday you’d know it was defense and bad luck, not Moylan or our pitching in general, that lost us the game.

I just have to know, wtf are you talking about?

Efim,

No, the Phils would be better with the Doc, but they wouldn’t be better against us (if you go just by stats, which of course doesn’t mean much with the small dosages).

The real threat with that trade is they’d have the money to resign him, kinda like if we coulda resigned Tex we’d easily be tied for first if not in first right now. I think we’re still Phil killers this year regardless, but he could hurt us bad next year.

Homanoka……….I never said that Bobby Cox wasnt a Hall of Fame manager. However when it comes to how he has managed THIS YEAR’S TEAM, I have a number of issues with it.

And just because I didnt want to see the Braves re-sign Tom Glavine and John Smoltz this year………….DOES NOT mean that I dont appreciate what they did for us in the past.

Some of you just dont get it. What happens in the past is just that……THE PAST. If a player or manager is showing signs that they have lost it………….that has no bearing on what I think about their past accomplishments.

Well what do you want him to do, squander some more prospects going after another big bat like what the Tex trade did or would you rather him weaken our rotation which has been our strength the whole season. Either way you put it you are weakening the ball club short term or long term and where we currently stand in the standings adding a big bat doesn’t automatically make us a lock for a playoff spot.

BravoMan…………It may be a new day…..but the SOS when it comes to predicting that if Javier Vazquez has to leave the game in the 7th or 8th inning in a close ballgame………that Bobby Cox will bring in Peter “Mr. Inconsistent” Moyan to pitch.

It’s also the SOS when it comes to seeing Bobby Cox use Greg “Mr. 5 for 46″ Norton in a crucial pinch hitting spot.

And of course, Bobby will more than likely find a way to get Kelly Johnson to come in a double switch, under the disguise of using him as a defensive replacement (kelly johnson a defensive replacement?), so he can get him some playing time AND some at-bats to “get him going”, lol.

That is about as predictable as saying that a crack addict will find some way to hustle up some crack, lol.

I think Next season the Braves will be a much better overall team. This offseason we got to concentrate on finding a Impact RH corner outfielder. Our Starting pitching will already be set. A full Season of McLouth in the Lineup will help as well, not to mention Yunel is becoming one of the best Overall Shortstops in the game, great with the glove and bat with power as well. Shafer will have worked out his Plate Disipline and contact and be on the roster starting in Center next year. McLouth in Left and The new Impact bat in RF. The bullpen will have question marks cause we all know they dont like to spend payroll on the bullpen, but Hopefully Soriano will sign a 2 yr deal with us.
LF McLouth
2B Prado
3B Chipper
RF New Guy
C McCann
SS Yunel

Efrim,

I heard from Buster Olney that the Jays have scouts watching Carasco and Knapp tonight (so it’s probably the 3 guys you suggested PLUS the 2 guys that you didn’t but were on your “2nd tier list”)

I firmly believe it’ll be a 5 for 1 type MARK TEXIERA type deal for ROY HALLADAY.

Person who mentioned AJ Happ and Roy Halladay in the same breath…NEED to have your head examined. AJ Happ is on a good roll right now but has NO track record what so ever. Roy Halladay is a TOP 3 starter in ALL of baseball. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Except when it comes to the money. Obviously Roy is tremendously more expensive.

I’m hoping this deal doesn’t go through and the Phillies and Jays don’t come to terms.

Necromancer………..I’ve already said that I HOPE that I’m wrong. I would love nothing more than to be wrong about my assessment. I DESPERATELY want to see my Braves win.

However, as much as I want to see the Braves win, I am not delusional. I try to be a realist when it comes to assessing our chances. And my years of watching baseball, along with being able to see the “writing on the wall” when it comes to the moves that lie ahead as far as this year’s roster is concerned………leaves me with no choice but to say that “our season is over with”.

Look, dont you think that I realize that I am taking a “big risk” in proclaiming that our season is over…..even though we just took 6 of 8 on the recent home stand? That we are only 3 1/2 games out of first? I know how it sounds for me to proclaim that our season is over at this point.

But sounding wrong……..and being wrong….are 2 different things. I feel that I am right in saying that our season is over with. I said yesterday that by August 16th, we will be at least 10 games out of first……..and 7 or 8 games out of the wild card race. I stick by that.

If I’m wrong, I’ll GLADLY eat some online crow.

Yeah Paul , waayyy beyond my comprehension………. LOLOL

You are obviously a tool. I have spent more time playing baseball then you have picking your nose, which is would assume to be a lot from the way you post on here.

Let me see, it was 10 years of youth ball, travel teams, AAU, then onto State Championship HS teams, free agent tryouts, several years in minor league ball, then 10 plus years as a paid hitting instructor and coach’s adviser, as well as continuing to play in an amatuer league with many ex-pro athletes who played in the same organization that I played for…….which of course would be my Braves. And since I played catcher (and the corner infield positions ) I was basically the on-field leader setting up defensive positioning and calling the game behind the plate for the pitchers.

So yeah, I can see how I would be unable to comprehend your “massive” brain power when it comes to all things baseball. You are truly a man/child who is clearly misunderstood. LOLOL Why else would you proclaim to be a fan yet spend every waking minute “preaching” of the teams demise right in the middle of their hottest streak of the year.

The Braves have won something like 14 of their last 21 yet all you can talk about are the times when they don’t do well. Face it, players are human, and that’s why they aren’t perfect. Neither are managers. But I guarantee you don’t hold a candle to anyone in a Braves uniform when it comes baseball know-how or ability.

Face it, your just a frustrated fantasy league player with an overblown ego and the ability to type like a girl. Other than that you basically serve no purpose here except for comic relief.

Jeff321……………I read the link that you posted in your 8:09pm posting. The author made some interesting points about the bullpen. However, I just dont see anyone out there who is available that would warrant a trade.

Then again, Frank Wren pulled a couple of “rabbits out of the hat” when he made the Nate McLouth and Jeff Francoeur trades. Still, no matter who Frank Wren gets in a trade………there is going to be NOTHING that prevents Bobby Cox from using Peter Moylan, Jeff Bennett, and Buddy Carlyle in crucial relief roles.

Also, while getting Omar Infante back would help……that would only end the big league stay of Diory Hernandez. The fact that our #1 pinch hitter, lol, is Greg Norton speaks volumes about our lack of depth on the bench.
