Pads-Nats this weekend? That is some “Must see TV” right there.
July 24th, 20097:24 pm
Cards already leading Phils 1-0
July 24th, 20097:26 pm
The fact that Paul Lentz is now sounding off like a Bobby Basher just leads me more to believe that he is one of our former of current bloggers just posting under a different name.
Paul do us all a favor and “get bent”. You have been blogging for a month and already have worn out your welcome here. You couldn’t even understand DOB’s question so you must be a young kid or just really retarded. No offense to retarded people.
July 24th, 20097:27 pm
Holliday singles to lead off the inning, steals 2nd, and gets singled home. Sounds like he’s making an impact already. 1-0 StL

1/2 hour until game time….
Lord Thunderin’ this is another big series for Los Bravos!
July 24th, 20097:29 pm
what network is the game on, again?
“No offense to retarded people.”
July 24th, 20097:30 pm
What’s with the AJC and these gross advertisements? First I get a shirtless fat woman trying to zip up her jeans, now they’re showing an elderly man’s shingles?
Bravos have NO SHOT vs. the Phitin’ Phils
Looks like rain Cards/Phillies
July 24th, 20097:31 pm
They didn’t trade to get singles
cabravesfan – have you made it home yet? Your beer is getting warm.
July 24th, 20097:32 pm
I have a friend whose brother-in-law owns a radio station, who has it on good authority that Bobby Cox is planning to double switch in the bottom of the first and replace Martin Prado with Kelly Johnson and Javier Vazquez with Peter Moylan. You know, ’cause their his boyz.
Holliday deal helped us out today. Matt got a hit in his first AB, stole a base, and was driven in to make it 1 to 0 Cards.
Big game tonight. Gotta take 2 of 3 from here. This game may set the tone for the rest of the series and if it’s a W for the Bravos it’ll make yesterday easier to forget and allow the players to get pumped to start another winning streak.
Player to watch in this series is McLouth. He, like Chipper, needs to get it going so he can set the table for the hot hitters behind him, Prado, Escobar, etc.
Does that include Corky Miller?
July 24th, 20097:33 pm
No manager in the grand history of the game has blessed his teams and fans with more 100 win seasons than Mr. Robert Joseph Cox. In Bobby I trust.
July 24th, 20097:35 pm
yeah McClouth needs to get going…for sure…I agree I don’t see a sweep from any team this series…the pitching match-ups are too good from both sides…
But then again…its baseball…and anything can happen…
But we do need this series 2/3 would be awesome!
“Bravos have NO SHOT against the Phitin Phils”
Hvan’t we dominated them all year? 1st game of the year, a recent sweep, Braves play the Phillies tough no doubt. That’s why I believe the east can still be one, but the Halladay deal’s becoming more and more likely….
Heyward and Freeman both singled in their first at bats. Heyward’s ball was smoked.
July 24th, 20097:36 pm
In Bobby I trust.
I wouldn’t go that far. What’s that animal that runs off a cliff by the dozens? Because they just stupidly follow the leader?
got to leave early…half way through beer #1 What are you drinking tonight?
July 24th, 20097:37 pm
The asking price, apparently is J.A. Happ, Kyle Drabek and Dominic Brown for Roy Halladay. That isn’t nearly what I thought he was going to ask for. That’s surprising. Phils have to do that deal, right? I mean, that still means they keep Donald, Taylor, Carrasco, Knapp, etc. I really was expecting at least 5-6 prospects going Toronto’s way. Kind of like what we did for Tex.
What bullpen arm do yall see the braves going after?
anyone think we can play more consistent ball with the current group of players we have?
There has been a lot of modifications made during the last couple of months or so…
July 24th, 20097:38 pm
OK I’m back, I got so wrapped up in Starbury’s crib feed, I lost track of time.
Dude be chillin’ yo!
July 24th, 20097:39 pm
TurnThePage ………..I’ve said this a number of times: I’m not the kind of fan who gets “panicky” over JUST one loss. However, there was more to yesterday than just THE LOSS. A number of events that has happened (since Greg Norton was activated and Gregor Blanco was sent down right before the All-Star Break)………leading up to Brooks Conrad being sent down when Kelly Johnson was called up before yesterday’s game…….has shown me that the team will soon be regressing.
A number of roster moves that are coming up will accelerate the demise of the season. Reason being, Bobby Cox is getting his way and getting “his boys” back. That is the bottom line here. The Braves can be winning or involved in a close game for the first 6-7 innings of a game (I love our line-up, our starting pitching, and our closer). However, the way Bobby has managed the bench and bullpen, and will continue to manage…….leads me to believe that our season is over with. It’s the close games (we arent going to keep winning games 9-2) that has me worried.
“They didn’t trade to get singles” -jeffrey d
They traded to win. So far, so good.
“Bravos have NO SHOT vs. the Phitin’ Phils”
I don’t know, the way we have played against them this year, we may be their Kryptonite. You know, the way the Nationals are ours.
cabravesfan – going the vodka route until I get to dinner – my shoulder is acting up (too much typing while sitting at a right angle to the computer), so I am going the therapeutic avenue.
July 24th, 20097:40 pm
chilidog75……….what about Oddibie McDowell?
the hopes of the braves nation rest in your hands mr. hanson
you are exactly right. need to take 2 of 3 the rest of the way….
the thing is with every loss this board melts down completely. but only one loss a series will get us into october easily. tonight is a big one though for sure, though they all are from here on out.
July 24th, 20097:43 pm
If the Phils trade for the Doc and it includes Happ, then we’re no worst off really, Happ has a better record against us this year than Halladay I believe. I’d be surprised if a deal doesn’t get done, the Phils lose a lot of payroll at the end of this year. Look at it this way though, maybe they’ll be the Mets in two years and not have enough depth to fill in for injured guys.
sorry to hear that…did you try moving the keyboard?
July 24th, 20097:44 pm
Come on, Paul Lentz
one loss doesn’t spell doom for the rest of the season. You’ve said you’ve been a Bravos fan since ‘82. Have a little faith.
It ain’t over til it’s over. I don’t agree with the decision to send Conrad down, but, the season’s not lost. I really don’t think that Bobby Cox is insane enough to bump Prado from the lineup in favor of KJ.
KJ will be a good off-the-bench guy and backup alternative. I really don’t think that Norton will be with tthe Braves that much longer.
There’s only so much suckiness a team can tolerate…
July 24th, 20097:45 pm
Original Jon………and I said that the ONLY WAY that the Braves win yesterday’s game is if Bobby went against his “style of managing”. So knowing that, if Bobby manages differently, then chances are that we win.
So, to answer your (and David O’brien’s) question again……..YES, If the Braves had won yesterday’s game, I would have felt differently. And the reason why winning yesterday’s game would have changed my outlook……..would have been the fact that Bobby managed the game differently then he normally does. And that would give me hope for the rest of the season.
If you really think that there was ANY WAY that we could have won the game yesterday without Bobby changing his style (you know, the kind of style that allows BUMS like Peter Moylan to CONTINUE to pitch in CRUCIAL situations)………then I dont know what else to say.
Frank from KS (now living in CO)
Well….if the Braves stand pat and don’t go after a major bat for the lineup…then ain’t going to be no postseason run this year.
Nice going Mr. Wren. Way to squander all the good pitching and having it go down the drain.
Paul you keep talking about KJ and Norton and neither one of them have seen enough playing time since the All-star break to significantly factor into any wins or losses. And if you watch the game against the Giants yesterday you’d know it was defense and bad luck, not Moylan or our pitching in general, that lost us the game.
I just have to know, wtf are you talking about?
July 24th, 20097:46 pm
“If the Phils trade for the Doc and it includes Happ, then we’re no worst off really, Happ has a better record against us this year than Halladay I believe.”
So, you’re saying the Phillies won’t be better if they exchange J.A. Happ for Roy Halladay? Did I read that right? J.A. Happ….. for the best pitcher in the sport(and I don’t even think it’s close)???
Capt Caveman………..and how many times do I have to say that if we win yesterday’s game…..then YES, my outlook changes.
However my reasoning why is WAY BEYOND YOUR COMPREHENSION ABILITIES.
July 24th, 20097:50 pm
No, the Phils would be better with the Doc, but they wouldn’t be better against us (if you go just by stats, which of course doesn’t mean much with the small dosages).
The real threat with that trade is they’d have the money to resign him, kinda like if we coulda resigned Tex we’d easily be tied for first if not in first right now. I think we’re still Phil killers this year regardless, but he could hurt us bad next year.
Homanoka……….I never said that Bobby Cox wasnt a Hall of Fame manager. However when it comes to how he has managed THIS YEAR’S TEAM, I have a number of issues with it.
And just because I didnt want to see the Braves re-sign Tom Glavine and John Smoltz this year………….DOES NOT mean that I dont appreciate what they did for us in the past.
Some of you just dont get it. What happens in the past is just that……THE PAST. If a player or manager is showing signs that they have lost it………….that has no bearing on what I think about their past accomplishments.
July 24th, 20097:51 pm
We’re doomed. Dooooooomed!
KJ always looks stoned.
July 24th, 20097:53 pm
Necromancer……………did you even pay attention to what I said? OR did you just see ONE LOSS and just went with it?
I put a HEAVY emphasis on what has happened before yesterday…..AND……….what lies ahead as far as roster moves that have to be made……….when I made my decision that “the season is over” posting. The loss yesterday was just a symptom of the bigger PROBLEMS that face the Braves.
July 24th, 20097:54 pm
One of Berman’s best-ever nicknames.
Odibe “young again” McDowell
You got nothing else to say Paul, so go home already. You are a redundant poster who is quickly garnering the title of ………………wait for it ……………………. A$$CLOWN !!!
Now we all know who the other on is on this blog (cough cough COACH cough cough), do you really want to join the ranks of the collectively stupid ?!?!?!?!?!?!
July 24th, 20097:56 pm
Today’s a new day Lentz wouldn’t you say???
“Well….if the Braves stand pat and don’t go after a major bat for the lineup…then ain’t going to be no postseason run this year.
Nice going Mr. Wren. Way to squander all the good pitching and having it go down the drain.”
Well what do you want him to do, squander some more prospects going after another big bat like what the Tex trade did or would you rather him weaken our rotation which has been our strength the whole season. Either way you put it you are weakening the ball club short term or long term and where we currently stand in the standings adding a big bat doesn’t automatically make us a lock for a playoff spot.
July 24th, 20097:57 pm
Ron Gant just said that Kelly Johnson is a “proven” player. PROVEN? Proven at what, STALLING AN OFFENSE? Playing spotty defense, at best, at second base?
I know that Prado isnt the best second baseman out there…………HOWEVER his bat more than makes up for it. Kelly’s bat comes NOWHERE close to making up for his lack of defensive prowess.
July 24th, 20097:58 pm
Paul Lentz – You are a God amungst men! Keep it up!
Hey everyone. Ok, let’s do this Bravos!
July 24th, 20097:59 pm
July 24th, 20098:00 pm
And I swear, Rickey says: “I don’t know if I can get it all in in eight minutes.”
Have mercy, LOL. But, think about it: could His Rickeyness have said anything else, LOL? Rickey…damn…OUT!
Have I mentioned how much I like Craig Counsell?
I’m kidding !!!
Guy ALSO makes coffee nervous.
July 24th, 20098:01 pm
Got my gameface on yo!
Dude, sounds like you’re about to have a stroke or something. It sounds like you’re ready to throw in the towel.
I’m hoping that the Braves are going to pick up where they left off. And if they do…are you still going to be preaching pessimism? If you’re a true fan, dude, you’ll have to just wait and see like the rest of us denizens.
July 24th, 20098:02 pm
BravoMan…………It may be a new day…..but the SOS when it comes to predicting that if Javier Vazquez has to leave the game in the 7th or 8th inning in a close ballgame………that Bobby Cox will bring in Peter “Mr. Inconsistent” Moyan to pitch.
It’s also the SOS when it comes to seeing Bobby Cox use Greg “Mr. 5 for 46″ Norton in a crucial pinch hitting spot.
And of course, Bobby will more than likely find a way to get Kelly Johnson to come in a double switch, under the disguise of using him as a defensive replacement (kelly johnson a defensive replacement?), so he can get him some playing time AND some at-bats to “get him going”, lol.
That is about as predictable as saying that a crack addict will find some way to hustle up some crack, lol.
I think Next season the Braves will be a much better overall team. This offseason we got to concentrate on finding a Impact RH corner outfielder. Our Starting pitching will already be set. A full Season of McLouth in the Lineup will help as well, not to mention Yunel is becoming one of the best Overall Shortstops in the game, great with the glove and bat with power as well. Shafer will have worked out his Plate Disipline and contact and be on the roster starting in Center next year. McLouth in Left and The new Impact bat in RF. The bullpen will have question marks cause we all know they dont like to spend payroll on the bullpen, but Hopefully Soriano will sign a 2 yr deal with us.
RF New Guy
Somthing like that
July 24th, 20098:03 pm
I heard from Buster Olney that the Jays have scouts watching Carasco and Knapp tonight (so it’s probably the 3 guys you suggested PLUS the 2 guys that you didn’t but were on your “2nd tier list”)
I firmly believe it’ll be a 5 for 1 type MARK TEXIERA type deal for ROY HALLADAY.
Person who mentioned AJ Happ and Roy Halladay in the same breath…NEED to have your head examined. AJ Happ is on a good roll right now but has NO track record what so ever. Roy Halladay is a TOP 3 starter in ALL of baseball. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Except when it comes to the money. Obviously Roy is tremendously more expensive.
I’m hoping this deal doesn’t go through and the Phillies and Jays don’t come to terms.
July 24th, 20098:04 pm
Damn straight Mixxo! We gon’ do this.
I agree with a lot of your points. But damn, you can beat a dead horse.
Brevity man, brevity . . .
July 24th, 20098:06 pm
We’ll see won’t we…(no page long comeback required)
This has pretty much become a Braves/Paul Lentz blog.
I’m getting close to yapping-up Bilbo’s fine, hickory-smoked, pulled-pork, Q.
That better not happen.
July 24th, 20098:07 pm
Shout Out to all my Peeps up in here!
Just Got Done Watching Rasslin!
Game Time, Lets’s Do This!
The best part is that he thinks the Braves management would read this blog for his insights.
Anyone have a video link for the game? My normal sources aren’t working…
July 24th, 20098:08 pm
Necromancer………..I’ve already said that I HOPE that I’m wrong. I would love nothing more than to be wrong about my assessment. I DESPERATELY want to see my Braves win.
However, as much as I want to see the Braves win, I am not delusional. I try to be a realist when it comes to assessing our chances. And my years of watching baseball, along with being able to see the “writing on the wall” when it comes to the moves that lie ahead as far as this year’s roster is concerned………leaves me with no choice but to say that “our season is over with”.
Look, dont you think that I realize that I am taking a “big risk” in proclaiming that our season is over…..even though we just took 6 of 8 on the recent home stand? That we are only 3 1/2 games out of first? I know how it sounds for me to proclaim that our season is over at this point.
But sounding wrong……..and being wrong….are 2 different things. I feel that I am right in saying that our season is over with. I said yesterday that by August 16th, we will be at least 10 games out of first……..and 7 or 8 games out of the wild card race. I stick by that.
If I’m wrong, I’ll GLADLY eat some online crow.
July 24th, 20098:09 pm
Paul Lentz, do you have an opinion on this piece?
“I firmly believe it’ll be a 5 for 1 type MARK TEXIERA type deal for ROY HALLADAY.”
It has to be, right?
July 24th, 20098:11 pm
Heath: Anyone have a video link for the game? My normal sources aren’t working…
Climb back up on the pole dude, you give up too easy…
Frank Wren/John Scherholz: "Prospects....we hate em!"
July 24th, 20098:12 pm
Don’t you idiots get it? JS overpaid for Tex. They bid against themselves and Daniels destroyed Scherholz in that trade. Phillies will be getting Doc for much less than we gave up for Tex. and Doc is a more valuable player.
Chipper has lacked the Offensive numbers because he has been pitched around so much this season…
Add to that he has yet to go on a tear where he carries the team, and we are gonna need that from him to get into the playoffs
Good AB Chip
Anyone have the link tp the game?
come on para. Get McCan’t out.
Nice rip by Chipper there.
July 24th, 20098:13 pm
Hmmph. Kenny Powers could crush Lentz’s feeble soul with a sideways glance and a well-aimed sunflower seed.
July 24th, 20098:14 pm
Yes! We are well on a way to a shut out.
McCann just missed that one..
Dammitt, B-Macc got that off the end of the bat!
Just missed it Mac.
Well, Mac gave it a ride.
Didn’t Parra pictch awesome against us last time?
dang dead center if that was to right field it gone…
Yeah Paul , waayyy beyond my comprehension………. LOLOL
You are obviously a tool. I have spent more time playing baseball then you have picking your nose, which is would assume to be a lot from the way you post on here.
Let me see, it was 10 years of youth ball, travel teams, AAU, then onto State Championship HS teams, free agent tryouts, several years in minor league ball, then 10 plus years as a paid hitting instructor and coach’s adviser, as well as continuing to play in an amatuer league with many ex-pro athletes who played in the same organization that I played for…….which of course would be my Braves. And since I played catcher (and the corner infield positions ) I was basically the on-field leader setting up defensive positioning and calling the game behind the plate for the pitchers.
So yeah, I can see how I would be unable to comprehend your “massive” brain power when it comes to all things baseball. You are truly a man/child who is clearly misunderstood. LOLOL Why else would you proclaim to be a fan yet spend every waking minute “preaching” of the teams demise right in the middle of their hottest streak of the year.
The Braves have won something like 14 of their last 21 yet all you can talk about are the times when they don’t do well. Face it, players are human, and that’s why they aren’t perfect. Neither are managers. But I guarantee you don’t hold a candle to anyone in a Braves uniform when it comes baseball know-how or ability.
Face it, your just a frustrated fantasy league player with an overblown ego and the ability to type like a girl. Other than that you basically serve no purpose here except for comic relief.
July 24th, 20098:15 pm
Just got under it a bit…
Yes! YES!! And in a sign that the gods truly care, the Braves game will be broadcast live tomorrow morning here, and MR. HANSON will be our twirler.
Life is indeed sweet this a.m.
Nice to see some hard hit balls and some pitches taken.
Nova Scotia Steve, Thanks
Is this http://www.p2p4u.net working?
WOW San Fransico and Colorado are play each other…
This is a BIG BIG series
July 24th, 20098:16 pm
Elgth! I hate “almost homers”!
I don’t have a great feeling about this one…dang lefties…
July 24th, 20098:17 pm
anyone getting this game in HD?
So was that Diaz or Church who caught that ball????? lol
July 24th, 20098:18 pm
Paul Lentz – Just for you I have put together an all time list of “Bobby’s boys”.
Tony Graffanino, Jim Clancy, Dan Petry, Brad Clontz, Danny Bautista, Ed Giovanola, Mike Mordecai, Greg Myers (AKA Greg Norton),
I’m glad we have a fly ball pitcher pitching.
Jeff321……………I read the link that you posted in your 8:09pm posting. The author made some interesting points about the bullpen. However, I just dont see anyone out there who is available that would warrant a trade.
Then again, Frank Wren pulled a couple of “rabbits out of the hat” when he made the Nate McLouth and Jeff Francoeur trades. Still, no matter who Frank Wren gets in a trade………there is going to be NOTHING that prevents Bobby Cox from using Peter Moylan, Jeff Bennett, and Buddy Carlyle in crucial relief roles.
Also, while getting Omar Infante back would help……that would only end the big league stay of Diory Hernandez. The fact that our #1 pinch hitter, lol, is Greg Norton speaks volumes about our lack of depth on the bench.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
