This is where I could choke Bobby. He leaves these relievers out there way too long sometimes. 10 straight pitches for balls and he leaves him to rot on the mound. He’s going to let him walk the first 3 batters he faces? Really?
You cant really blame Bobby for this. O’Flaherty just didnt have it tonight. Bobby did the right thing in bringing in O’Flaherty. Dude just couldnt throw strikes. It happens.
Nolie @ 8:19pm – my point was not very clearly made (my fault). Scouting reports are expert opinions, but no one “scouting report” should be taken as gospel fact.
For example, one scout offered an anonymous assessment of Jimmy Rollins I saw a little earlier this year to a baseball writer (Nick Carfado I think) and speculated that he may be “done.” If anyone saw today’s game against the Cards or has seen the stats he has put up in July, I think that line of thought has been put to rest.
As it relates to Happ, the scouting report in this blog reads like a young Tom Glavine in terms of stuff … so is that scouting report wrong about Happ’s long-term future in a rotation, or is Happ going to come crashing back to earth? Honestly, we don’t know yet.
Finally, is that scouting report a consensus view? Because if the Phillies really think Happ’s a back of the rotation guy, they’re stupid for not tossing him in with Drabek and whatever prospect to get Halladay immediately.
I like EOF Mitchell but he didn’t have it tonight, that was clear when he walked the first guy. K’ on Fielder is fantastic, then walk one guy ok fine but when you go 3-0 on the next guy? Um hook? Maybehaps?
A bunch of guys were standing around at an old baseball managers funeral when an older woman walked up and asked “If you don’t mind telling me what killed him”. One of the guys said ” bases on balls, Mam, bases on balls.
