Hey look! Martin Prado is up third this inning! But I thought he was out of the game? I hate Bobby Cox! I hate Peter Moylan! I hate Glenn Hubbard! We don’t we trade Kotchman, Johnson, and Moylan for Pujols?!?!?
Jay,
A single to start the inning. Two sac bunts the Braves turned into base hits — one that ended up scoring a run when it got away from KJ after hitting runner.
Then two base hits off Moylan and an error — on Church, though it should have been on Chipper — allowed three more runs to score.
Given how short the bullpen was getting, some type of double switch was in order. Another possibility was with GA for Church (with Diaz moving to right) but I think he is nursing an injury. Plus, GA is also LH. But — KJ hits LHP better than RHP so your argument isn’t so great.
The Giants deserved this one today. They left over 20 people on base and Zito was lights out. Frankly the Braves were lucky it was close before the meltdown.
1. Medlen should have never been taken out.
2. I thought Kotchman was still on this team because of his defense………unreal
3. KJ back = back to the old days (1st half)
4. WAYNE IN UTAH, dont worry, we will give it another shot when the time comes,
5. Braves deserve to lose this game, it helps mentally, it will help them understand………..you play stupid ball, you will end up with and L.
I guess that base hit by Kelly makes the double switch all worth it?
Unreal. That hit will only give Bobby more ammunition to play Kelly even more. That is why I hated to see Francoeur to get a hit before he was traded. It only gave Bobby the same ammunition to keep throwing Francoeur out there in right field.
Hope everyone is well! Haven’t been on the blog since Saturday and we have been winning since that loss so stayed away to keep it rolling. Now that this one is done, glad to be back.

There’s’ McLouth hitting into a double play. The guy does not hit lefties well. Now with Prado’s hit that play looks even worse. And another at bat trip to the plate from Chipper. He has had a bad day.
I promist that I won’t stay mad too long. I promist myself that I will look at the “big picture” and say that taking 3 of 4 from the Giants is a good thing.
Okay, so we need to cut Kotchman, Kawakami, KJ, Moylan, Bobby Cox and Cadahia, apparently. I’m very disappointed in the Frank Wren haters for not showing enough imagination to blame him for this as well.
So I guess this little hot streak the Bravos were on was nothing more than another tease. I would understand us losing to Lincecum but Zito? What happened? We better pick it up against the Brewers. If we are indeed buyers at the end of the month, we HAVE to upgrade 1B if we want a chance at the postseason. Definately need to get rid of some dead weight (Kotchman, Norton, Diory, Moylan). There is something criminally wrong with Conrad and Barbaro playing in Gwinnet and guys like the aforementioned remain on this team.
I’m Not Hating On Nate-Dawg But He is A totally different hitter in this lineup as opposed to when he first got here…
I think he swings for the fences (especially on this homestand) way too much and therefore pulls off too much…I want to see him going the other way and hitting balls to the gap…
You know what? The season is over because Atlanta won 3 of 4 versus the best starting staff (coming into the series) and played one crappy inning the whole series. BTW did I mention the team won 3 of 4 against the Mets and the only loss was to the best left-hander in the game? My goodness, some of you have the mentality of 12 year olds.Get a grip. It is one game.
Didn’t you know? The Braves were supposed to win every game for the rest of the season and play flawlessly. If they had a good manager they would. We just need Peter Moylan to contract Ebola so Bobby will be forced to keep him out of games (You know, like when Jeff Bennett punched a wall). I’m sure if Frank Wren didn’t physically restrain COx from using Bennett, he would have started games 1, 2, and 3 of this series and been first out of the pen for this one.
Calling you out for your uneducated posts. Maybe cause you have been blogging on here for so long your name just sticks out to me to read. And now I am satisfied to skip over your posts from here on out based on your recent rumblings and grumblings. I am sick even reading the blog after a loss, because the past 6 days of praise all of you have been given to this team, you equal it in ridicule after ONE loss. Gimme a break, we took 3 of 4 off of the WC leaders. Job well done and grind it out tomorrow.
This blog is oh so sad. That bandwagon got rather crowded but now I’m getting pretty lonely on here. We lose and all of you start overreacting and talking about how horrible we are. Moylan didn’t even get hit hard at all.
Roja: You said Gonzo earned this loss for us? What exactly did he do? He faced one batter and got hit in the arm and then got taken out. Man he had a bad outing!!
Yeah. Sort of weird how this place was a ghosttown while they were beating the best pitcher in baseball. Now, they lose one — in their last five games — and now it’s time to get “rid of the dead weight.”
Great, now Dentz Lentz is gonna address me in every KJ post he makes, and I think I can be fairly certain that KJ is gonna be his new Frenchy. Do me a favor Paul: don’t. Every one of your posts about KJ makes you sound like and idiot, because it’s pretty apparent you don’t know what you’re talking about.
No, the single doesn’t justify the double switch. What justifies the double switch is that the game was tied at the time. If you want Moylan in the game, you don’t want him leading off the bottom of the 8th. The only two remaining pitchers were Acosta and Soriano. If you get out of the 8th still tied, pinching hitting for Moylan could leave you with not many pitchers if the game goes 11 or 12 innings. Thus, double switch either for Ross (with McCann), Kotchman (with KJ and Prado moving to 1st) or for Church (with GA).
If KJ had not been activated, would you have been okay using Brooks Conrad in the same double switch?
Perfect description of what happened. But it still sux to know you could have won this game, or it could at least be 3-1 right now… Lets see how they react to this loss…
“What a F’d Up Inning! That just deflated our momentum heading into Milwaukee!”
Yeah, I know what you mean. We lost 5-1 last Saturday, and after that disastrous ninth inning we were so deflated we won the next 4 games!
Seriously, if we can do this the rest of the way–you know, win all of the starts that Lowe, Javy, JJ & Tommy start, and just totally meltdown every fifth day when KK starts–well KK might not like it but I think the rest of us would be thrilled.
I assume the double switch was employed to be able to keep Moylan in the game since the bullpen was being used heavily. But then Moylan went on to throw 20 pitches in the eighth and the game is no longer close. I guess that’s why Acosta pitched the ninth. Doubt it had that much to do with Casey’s play in the field.
What a bad loss this will be. I cant help but think that Greg Norton being kept on the roster while Brooks Conrad was sent down had to have some effect on the spirit of the team. Greg Norton? Brooks Conrad contributed in his limited time with the Braves. Greg Norton has SUCKED the whole year.
I cant wait to see Jeff Bennett called back up. Why dont we give Tom Glavine a call and tell him that we were sorry for cutting him and that we want to give him a chance? Or maybe we can call Boston and offer them Tommy Hanson in exchange for getting John Smoltz back? Or even better yet, why not trade Jair Jurrgens to the Astros so we can re-acquire Mike Hampton?
Wait, I have an even better idea. Why dont we trade Yunel Escobar to the Mainers for Ryan Langerhans?
And last but not least……….Let’s trade Javier Vazquez to the Mets so we can get our beloved Jeff Francoeur back?
If Frank Wren can make those moves, then we can go back to having really good guys on our team who make great teammates, sign lots of autographs, and who will play hard for Bobby Cox because they appreciate being “Bobby’s boys”.

Hey, it’s not a save situation. Maybe Wilson will let up because of it.

Sometimes I think about 1/3 of you folks just loves to bitch. Also, roughly the same number don’t know sheet about the game either…
…and I believe that there may be, just possibly, some overlap in those two slices of the pie chart. Just an eensy teensy tiny little probability.
