I realize that most folks don’t have as much time as I do to read the blog (relatively easy month for me, and the work I do is computer-based, so lots of time to sneak a peek into the blog, LOL! Plus…blackberry).
That is whats good… Wish we could bottle some of these runs up for tomorrow. You know the kid that we are playing against has gone close to 20 innings with only giving up two runs. Guess his ERA just got a culture shock
Seriously – where has THIS team been all year? GREAT defense, timely and productive offense. The pitching has been here, but…..Day – um! Perfect time to bring it all together
Seriously – where has THIS team been all year? GREAT defense, timely and productive offense.
Wren made some shrewd moves. Picked up McLouth and Church, Bobby finally benched KJ (and then he got hurt), GA started to hit… and suddenly there are no automatic outs in this lineup. And the bench looks good as well.
It is SO NICE to not have easy outs in the line-up. We have guys who can work a walk (even though Nate McLouth is struggling he did draw 4 walks on Sunday against the Mets), guys who can help turn the line-up over faster.
I picked McCann as my catcher for my fantasy baseball team tonight. Keep racking up the points for me Brian.
Braves have scored 8 tonight
St Louis has scored 1 tonight
I know it’s early, but that ties the Braves for 6th in runs in the NL…I’ll ask the question I asked earlier today again: Do the Braves really need an OF anymore?
Rob from SC…………..agree with your 8:22pm post. Instead of being fearful of Linecum…….I’m excited about seeing Jair Jurrjens pitch against the Giants. With the way our offense is playing, I’m liking our chances tomorrow.
Wow this is so fun to watch. It’s like we were in a bad dream for 3 years and now we have awoke. The changes in the team and lineup definitely improved my negative feelings. Maybe the Braves have been influenced as well.
In other news, Ollie Perez has walked 5 in 4 1/3 innings (3 ER) against the Nats…Riaan Spanjer Furstenburg 1-3 with a homer…Mycal Jones 2-3 with a 3B and a HR.
Really hope Jones figures out to hit because if he does he’ll be a good one…
Yes 8 runs for the Braves. This is great. How many times have the Braves faced a rookie for the first time and scored 1 run with 4 hits. Tonight is great to see them beat up on a young guy they should knock around. Fantastic defense all around the infield.
A lot of sports media and fans get caught up with strikeouts. I do that sometimes myself. However you don’t need excess strikeouts to be a dominant pitcher. Look at Maddux. Jurrjens has been a shutdown pitcher this year.
With Erin Andrews being in the nude I mean news lately, I’m wondering if y’all remember when she worked for TBS, and how Skip would get all surly with her…lol
Any of you guys see that fine A$$ blonde sitting behind the Giants dugout? Not being able to see it in HD, I couldnt get a clear look. But damn, she looked FINE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heath, no! We have solid hitters at every position. With our startng pitching and back end of the bullpen we dont need a great offense. Just an offense that can consistently hit.
Rob–I think it was Kyle Rose, GCL Braves, at least among the more notable draft picks. But yeah, Jones can run real well…I believe 3B Jakob Dalfonso (GCL) is supposed to be pretty quick too.
you should start throwing again. If you have full ROM, might was well give a shot one day. I had tennis elbow in high school my junior year. Couldn’t get the ball 10 feet & shut down the rest of the year & only pinch ran/pinch hit. Didn’t play ball for 2 years & the arm was stronger than it ever was in amateur leagues. I’m sure your arm will respond well..that is if you’re interested & willing to risk it to have a “I’ve still got it” moment.
Rob from SC……………Agree with your 8:29pm posting. While it is good for a pitcher to have a strikeout pitch in certain situations (bases loaded , not outs situation for instance)………it is actually more economical for a pitcher to get a bunch of 1st or 2nd pitch ground ball outs. “Just noticed that this is McCann’s 6th game in a row. Meaning he’ll probably sit tomorrow. Against Lincecum….awesome.”
I’d rest him Thursday and Sunday this week. Both day games. Zito on Thursday and I can’t remember the Brew Crew pitcher on Sunday. But that would be what I would do.
Lowe threw a lot of pitches that 5th inning. His pitch count is up to 76 pitches. Hopefully he can get 2 more innings and then Bobby can bring in Manny Acosta or Kris Medlen to get the last 2 innings. Or maybe one of the other guys for an inning of work.
I’ll miss Skip during Thursday’s businessman special. He was always good to make a crack about all the businessman being so kind to bring their daughters to the game.
Is this not the Braves team we had expected from the beginning of the year? Better late than never. I guess ridding of JF and KJ from this lineup was addition by subtraction. Or you could just say Prado has done wonders to this lineup in the 2 spot, adding Nate has helped shore up the lead off spot (however, not as of late), and having Diaz platoon more regularly with Garrett and Church has helped the bottom of the order produce runs as well.
