Necromancer- I believe KJ was an infielder to start with. They converted him to an outfielder then back to infield.
Mac comes through!
Good Lick B-Macc!!!
Damn, just a little higher, lol. McCann TOMAHAWKED that one.
Nova Scotia Steve
YEAH….Way to get on the board!!!! Let’s get behind these guys!!!!!
Go Braves…keep rollin….keep on rollin
1-0 Braves…on a uuuuuhm. Double!
Gotta make McFann feel good!
High fastballs are killing the Giants in this series.
Bobby Is A Junkie
Joe Simpson talking about Chipper’s comment that he doesn’t know and he doesn’t want to know why the Braves are playing better.
Does it take a rocket scientist to see that the Braves started turning the corner when Frenchy was benched for a few games and Prado FINALLY was in the lineup every day?
Is it a coincidence that the Braves look better now than they have in a couple of years and that it takes place when Frenchy and KJ aren’t in the lineup?
Its About time Our Commentators call him B-Macc! Attaboy Chip!
July 21st, 20097:26 pm
9 straight!! RBI DOUBLE!!!
When things are goin’ bad…that 2B bounces over the wall and we don’t score. …Things are goin’ good…at the moment
Time for Loaf to spank some ass here!
i didn’t know that…
Me, too…we always face these kinda guys…
Just saw the DP. Excellent.
Runner was safe at 1st, but that’s what happens when you awe the umps…
July 21st, 20097:27 pm
I guess you have to tip your cap to TP for the hot hitting this month
July 21st, 20097:28 pm
Oh Gawd, They are still playing those Stupid Amstel Light Commercials…
Bring back the Samuel Jackson Commercials please…?
McFanny…nice start. And what about that play to end the top of the first?!
July 21st, 20097:29 pm
John When things are goin’ bad…that 2B bounces over the wall and we don’t score
Haha! That’s for sure!
Chip: “Whoever it is [who taught Garret Anderson how to hit] taught his pupil well.”
Right as GA strikes out.
Those who want to trade Escobar are insane.
July 21st, 20097:30 pm
No. Everybody knows TP only makes hitters worse.
Did the Braves sign their 1st round pick (BravesFaninFla)
no. i posted a story mentioning him a few pages back. They drafted him 15 positions high to save money and they still haven’t signed him
July 21st, 20097:31 pm
Yep! That play in the first was amazing–Proda laid out to get the ball, flipped it to Escobar who bare-handed it while tagging the base, leaped over the runner, and fired to first! Close play, but out nonetheless!
We’d be batting .998 this month if it weren’t for TP (Greg Norton would still get out)
I’m not tipping TP anything…
For those of you that criticize Braves announcers; be glad we don’t have to hear the Giants announcers every game. Yay for MLB Extra Innings… I think.
July 21st, 20097:32 pm
Chipper with a very good play!
Wow. The D is on it tonight.
Good Pick By Hoss!
Boys are playing good ball…all over the place…
This is fun!
Still no fly balls, outs our otherwise, given up by Lowe…..great sign so far.
July 21st, 20097:33 pm
Isn’t Renteria making 9 Million a year…?
Waht a Foolish Signing that was by the giants F.O.
They Got Hustled! Just glad it didn’t happen to us…
WOW THAT WAS SICK!!!
That WAS special.
KJ was actually a SS.
They moved him to the OF because….well you can imagine why.
Then before the 2007 (after TJ surgery), he practiced with Hubbard every day in the offseason to convert to 2nd, because they wanted his On Base capabilities at the top of the order.
They had a “tryout” in ST that year. Wouldn’t say KJ won that competition outright (looking at the stats)…but they chose him. Prado went on to win like AAA player of the year or something for Richmond.
KJ had a decent year in 2007. He started off on fire. I was happy. People say he had a great year, but I remember him being inconsistent & the stats show it a bit. Last year was worse with the inconsistency. Bobby was finally forced to make a switch. Glad Martin finally got his shot. I think it’s made him a more complete player though being a backup, trying to play other positions, etc..
KJ is not hurt. He’s eligible to come off the DL now. He’ll be traded for a reliever. We need relievers. Hope we can get a prospect too.
I still say KJ and Frenchy have horrible rookie and sohpmore years if not for TP. You can’t blame their failures on him and not give him credit for their success. Just saying. OF course they both suffer from the inability to adapt.
Could it be that joe simpson has a man crush on escobar
Another Web Gem anyone?
Simpson said it best..”He’s special, Folks”
Aw c’mon. Esco makes it look so easy.
Wow, back to back picks. Left side’s looking good.
They love to hate him. Go yuni!!!
Rob from SC
Escobar is amazing. Let him be himself and have fun
Escobar is channelling Ozzie Smith!
July 21st, 20097:34 pm
That’s at least 3 plays so far that could be on ESPN web gems.
N9(Escobar is THE future& NOT tradable)
Yunel shows off da skills!!!!
This whole game may be a web gem…
Just think if he lost the frost tips . . .
Oh my Goodness!!! Escobar is unconscious.
SIGN THE MAN….SIGN THAT MAN…PUT THE CONTRACT IN CUBAN, SPANISH, ESPANOL AND ENGLISH…
Maybe KJ can transition to a utility role – some 2B, 3B, LF, 1B? Get some work at those spots in spring training next yr. His 09 slump may have led some to over react (sort of a blog tendency it seems). He does have some punch at times. KJ haters are everywhere but maybe he could be an asset down the road. Might overlap with Infante’s role a bit. But all the Infante admirers may be too infatuated with his 09 numbers, which are better than his past performance. I like them both as part of the bench.
July 21st, 20097:35 pm
Necromancer- I was wrong about KJ. He came up in 2005, played left field. He was switched to 2B because he had surgery on his arm (don’t think it was TJ surgery, but serious) and missed 2006. He switched to infield in 2007, which is where he’s been ever since. Sorry ’bout that….
I have to watch the Giants feed because the Braves feed is blacked out her in San Fran. Mike Krukow just said “Wow” and then it went to commercial break, lol.
How’d you like them apples?
Mike in LA
They are having fun. Who cares where they are in the standings. If they play the kind of baseball they are right now for the rest of the season the record will work itself out.
July 21st, 20097:36 pm
I think he got switched from SS to 2B when Escobar took over full time.
This pitcher kinda looks like Adam LaRoche
July 21st, 20097:37 pm
Would be nice if Church has a long AB… only 3 pitches thrown this inning.
I’d like to point out…I was never EVER an Escobar hater…
And also thought the trade Escobar “because he in Bobby’s doghouse” was the most tiring this blog may have ever been…
Maybe not that hardcore…but it was tiring
Easy inning there…
July 21st, 20097:38 pm
The Giant’s announcers response to Esco’s pick to end the last inning; “Uribe can pick it to, some great plays come out of him”.
Be glad you’re a Brave fan right now, it could be worse, you could hav e to root for the Giants.
No problem, man.
I thought that KJ had started out as a LF’er.
Esco looks so happy today too.
July 21st, 20097:39 pm
Uribe’s is a fat slob!
Can’t stand the Giants annoucers….buncha “meat”heads!
Bingo. Chips brings up Frenchy before the first inning ended.
Okay, whichever one of you made the Pride of the Yankees deal, thank you.
Hey guys found a perfect game link. Plus they are begging for viewers. Thought I’d share. http://www.p2p4u.net/watch-live-sports.php?id=3151&link=2
the hopes of the braves nation rest in your hands mr. hanson
yeah the obsession with halladay to the phils might be coming to an end….but a new obsession with cliff lee to the phils is about to start brewing.
TJ…kj did have tommy john surgery..performed by Dr. James Andrews
argh…the wife wants to go on a bike ride…
Hold the fort down for me!
July 21st, 20097:40 pm
Err, Damn Yankees. Pride of the Yankees has slightly different subject matter and significantly different viewpoint regarding the Yankee ballclub.
Yep. Those were the stats that I could find on the QT. I’m sure some stats guys could probably find more. I’m just not a “stats guy”…. or stats girl for that matter.
Maybe 3 people out of the hundreds who post on the blog wanted to trade Escobar – can we please just drop the whole damn conversation?
I’m tired of hearing “Don’t trade Escobar!” Really? No sh!t. I’m sure these comments might sway Wren to keep this player just this one time.
Wren isn’t going to move the guy without a significant return (including a good young SS), and that deal isn’t materializing. So please, can everyone just drop it?
Escobar is going nowhere. There is no need to panic about Wren moving him.
July 21st, 20097:41 pm
A lot of ground balls early by Lowe is definitely a good sign. I like our chances tonight.
jeffrey d- He swings like LaRoche, too.
That upmire is calling everything and anybody out over there…he just sending people to the dugout left or right…no matter if they’re safe or out…
I love it…
I think he just rung
with that defense behind lowe.. no he is wheelin and dealin
July 21st, 20097:42 pm
BOBBY COX/ PAUL, if we trade KJ for a right handed reliever, so we can send Manny A. down, who can we get? I like weathers, but he can be had for less that KJ I believe. What about Capps from Pittsburgh? Is he available?
SG…thanks for that link.
Can anyone on the Braves get Winn out
Amen. No one has mentioned trading Escobar in weeks, yet after every good thing he does, we hear “still want to trade Escobar?”, addressed to no one in particular.
yup i think he just called Winn out…lol
July 21st, 20097:43 pm
Does Randy Winn get hits against any other teams?
God I hate Winn!!!
“Why in the heck was KJ ever converted to an infielder in the first place?”
The same reason Chipper was converted to an outfielder. That’s where the need was.
July 21st, 20097:44 pm
Get him here Lowe…
High heat from Lowe? lol?
OMG, Randy Winn please go back to the AL!!!!!!!!!
trading good position players for relievers isn’t value-for-value, in most instances. (SCOOTS)
amen to that. they are relievers for one reason, cause they ain’t good enough to be anything else. That applies to 90+% of them, and one of the ways in which they manifest their suckatude is by going cold just when you think they are hot stuff. I would never trade a decent regular player for any but the most proven longterm reliever.and Sherrill for instance has yo-yoed almost every year. No thank you.
July 21st, 20097:45 pm
Salamander YES! I agree, not happening! It could finally be a quiet deadline.
Frank Wren on the phone . . .
“Mr. Lentz, what do you think about this move . . .”
Wow. That thing rolled for a while.
Whew….a little luck can’t hurt.
July 21st, 20097:46 pm
Another great comment by Chip Caray, “Good job by Chipper to watch that ball go foul.”
Like Chipper had a choice!
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
