Joe Simpson talking about Chipper’s comment that he doesn’t know and he doesn’t want to know why the Braves are playing better.
Does it take a rocket scientist to see that the Braves started turning the corner when Frenchy was benched for a few games and Prado FINALLY was in the lineup every day?
Is it a coincidence that the Braves look better now than they have in a couple of years and that it takes place when Frenchy and KJ aren’t in the lineup?
Yep! That play in the first was amazing–Proda laid out to get the ball, flipped it to Escobar who bare-handed it while tagging the base, leaped over the runner, and fired to first! Close play, but out nonetheless!
They moved him to the OF because….well you can imagine why.
Then before the 2007 (after TJ surgery), he practiced with Hubbard every day in the offseason to convert to 2nd, because they wanted his On Base capabilities at the top of the order.
They had a “tryout” in ST that year. Wouldn’t say KJ won that competition outright (looking at the stats)…but they chose him. Prado went on to win like AAA player of the year or something for Richmond.
KJ had a decent year in 2007. He started off on fire. I was happy. People say he had a great year, but I remember him being inconsistent & the stats show it a bit. Last year was worse with the inconsistency. Bobby was finally forced to make a switch. Glad Martin finally got his shot. I think it’s made him a more complete player though being a backup, trying to play other positions, etc..
KJ is not hurt. He’s eligible to come off the DL now. He’ll be traded for a reliever. We need relievers. Hope we can get a prospect too.
I still say KJ and Frenchy have horrible rookie and sohpmore years if not for TP. You can’t blame their failures on him and not give him credit for their success. Just saying. OF course they both suffer from the inability to adapt.
Maybe KJ can transition to a utility role – some 2B, 3B, LF, 1B? Get some work at those spots in spring training next yr. His 09 slump may have led some to over react (sort of a blog tendency it seems). He does have some punch at times. KJ haters are everywhere but maybe he could be an asset down the road. Might overlap with Infante’s role a bit. But all the Infante admirers may be too infatuated with his 09 numbers, which are better than his past performance. I like them both as part of the bench.
Necromancer- I was wrong about KJ. He came up in 2005, played left field. He was switched to 2B because he had surgery on his arm (don’t think it was TJ surgery, but serious) and missed 2006. He switched to infield in 2007, which is where he’s been ever since. Sorry ’bout that….
I have to watch the Giants feed because the Braves feed is blacked out her in San Fran. Mike Krukow just said “Wow” and then it went to commercial break, lol.
They are having fun. Who cares where they are in the standings. If they play the kind of baseball they are right now for the rest of the season the record will work itself out.
Yep. Those were the stats that I could find on the QT. I’m sure some stats guys could probably find more. I’m just not a “stats guy”…. or stats girl for that matter.
Maybe 3 people out of the hundreds who post on the blog wanted to trade Escobar – can we please just drop the whole damn conversation?
I’m tired of hearing “Don’t trade Escobar!” Really? No sh!t. I’m sure these comments might sway Wren to keep this player just this one time.
Wren isn’t going to move the guy without a significant return (including a good young SS), and that deal isn’t materializing. So please, can everyone just drop it?
Escobar is going nowhere. There is no need to panic about Wren moving him.
BOBBY COX/ PAUL, if we trade KJ for a right handed reliever, so we can send Manny A. down, who can we get? I like weathers, but he can be had for less that KJ I believe. What about Capps from Pittsburgh? Is he available?
Amen. No one has mentioned trading Escobar in weeks, yet after every good thing he does, we hear “still want to trade Escobar?”, addressed to no one in particular.
trading good position players for relievers isn’t value-for-value, in most instances. (SCOOTS)
amen to that. they are relievers for one reason, cause they ain’t good enough to be anything else. That applies to 90+% of them, and one of the ways in which they manifest their suckatude is by going cold just when you think they are hot stuff. I would never trade a decent regular player for any but the most proven longterm reliever.and Sherrill for instance has yo-yoed almost every year. No thank you.
