TnBrian………..baseball related, what have I said that is “strange”? I’m talking about baseball related issues here. I’m not personally attacking anyone, not calling anyone names. Yet I’m being attacked.
Whatever, I’m still going to post. There are those who do agree with a lot of what I have to say baseball wise.
Letting go of Moylan wouldn’t be good either. Yes, he is inconsistent this year but you might’ve forgotten that he is just a year removed from Tommy John surgery. Gonzalez was the same way he was last year. The recovery is 12-18 months, which is why all of this talk about Hudson being a starter in insane. I know he may want to showcase himself for 2010 but he would doing himself and the team a great disservice attempting to go 6+ inn. every 5th day. Adding Hudson gives Moylan, Soriano and Gonzalez a much deserved break because you can rotate all of them from the 7th inning on.
Funny how just a few months ago, we felt Soriano ripped us off with that two year contract. I can’t imagine not having him sitting as our closer. I say show him the money, Gonzo’s second in line now.
Lowe had a nice second half last season. With the offense clicking, he’s a lock for 15-16 wins..
The Phillies are fools if they think they don’t need Halladay to get back to the WS. Lidge as blown 6 saves and Hamels is 5-5. SP wins the playoffs. Halladay would put them at the best in the NL imo. Just cuz they’re on a hot streak doesn’t mean they don’t need a stud like the Doctor
According to Jon Heyman @ SI the Phillies aren’t willing to give up Kyle Drabek for Roy Halliday.
One person with the Jays suggested he believes the chances for a deal are now “less than 50-50.”
*************************************
The Phillies have lost their minds if that is the guy they are HUNG up on in that deal. I wouldn’t deal Michael Taylor if I were them, yet they are more than willing to package him? Oh well, it’ll be great for the Braves if this “trade doesn’t happen”…so good news.
Kyle Drabek – nothing but an UNPROVEN at the major league level prospect
Roy Halladay – one of the top 3 pitchers in the last 5 years
keylargo……………I didnt say that Kelly Johnson should be out of baseball. I’m saying that his drop off has been significant enough that he doesnt deserve to be playing right now consistently on the Major League level.
If you feel that Kelly Johnson is in fact an “everyday” player……..then would he be better served playing everyday at Triple A, getting at-bats everyday against live pitching….or…..being used as a pinch runner at the Major League level, getting the occasional pinch hit or start?
If the Braves were willing to get rid of Greg Norton, I would be ok with Kelly being called up. However, barring that, I’d rather see him stay in Triple A and then get called up when the rosters are expanded in September.
The Braves will win this division if they just stay close to the Phills because they’ve kicked their as*** this year and if it comes down to a few games, our pitching will stop their offensive attacks. The main difference in these two teams in ‘09 so far is that Philly takes care of the weaker teams and we’ve yet to mash on them. I really do believe that’s about to change because it looks like the offense is finally realizing who they are unlike before against Pit/Was/Cincy it was the lack of offense that hurt us, not the pitching.
Paul, you really shouldn’t waste your time posting anything trying to explain baseball to SanFranFan. This person yesterday stated some silly garbage about how the Giants were going to crush the Braves and Frenchy. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that SanFranFan pays little attention to baseball happenings.
Paul, it’s just the hundreds of LONG post daily is why I say you’re “strange”. I don’t know if you are, I’m just sayin it seems like you are here on the internet. You really don’t bother me, man. Good day!
Didn’t notice the limping, but yeah, your point about Smoltz is a good one. Textbook perfect delivery, and 5 major surgeries later….
I don’t see Hanson’s delivery as awkward or violent, like Jake Peavy’s. I see it as quite smooth and fluid. That should bode well for him injury-wise, hopefully.
And as long as we’re on the subject, have you guys noticed Jurrjens’ delivery is nearly identical to Greg Maddux’s? Many of you probably have, but man, in his last start I really watched it carefully, then I pulled up some old Maddux games on YouTube, and hell if it isn’t spot-on. That bodes VERY well for Jurrjens avoiding injuries!!!
I just love both of these kids. They really could be a 1-2 punch to be reckoned with in the playoffs one of these years.
Richie………….I understand that Moylan had elbow surgery last year. That is why I felt that he should have started the year off in Triple A, doing a Minor League rehab assignment. He could have worked on getting the rust off and re-establishing control.
However, he turned into a pitcher who allows WAY TOO MANY base runners. Too unreliable to pitch in late inning, tight situations.
So about 9 months ago I thought it was a good idea or at least worthy of consideration to put KJ in LF and make Prado the starting 2nd baseman. Still saying that today and apparently so are a hell of a lot of others.
Prado is far superior to Kelly defensively in range and infield instincts. In fact it is not close really. Offensively it doesn’t even merit debate. Still I see somebody like Marc above still opining that KJ is better defensively than Prado. No way no how but it is a blog so opine on.
I hope all talk about a Vazquez trade is put to rest. The dude is simply our best pitcher and no bat short of Manny or Pujols is going to pry Vazquez away. The dude has nasty stuff and if nothing else it shows what a clown Ozzie Guillen is as a manager. How did Ozzie EVER get to a management position on a major league team.
It doesn’t bode well for the Braves that they are playing so well but losing ground to the Phillies. The Phillies have to crack don’t they?
From what the story says……she was video-taped nude in a motel room through the peep-hole.
I like looking at Playboys the same as the next guy…..but video taping someone in the nude without their permission is WAY out of line and very disrespectful.
I hope the feller that did that gets the book thrown at him plus. He better hope Erin doesn’t have a b/f or husband (but the last I knew, she wasn’t married)
Winning tonight’s winnable game will put even more pressure on the Giants to win tomorrow’s game (Tim Linecum is pitching). However, we will be countering with Jair Jurrjens, who is no slouch himself. With no easy outs, I think that the Braves can make Linecum work tomorrow night.
If the Braves can win tonight, then the Giants will need to win Wednesday to avoid having to face the prospect of getting swept on Thursday with Barry Zito pitching for them.
As I said before this series started……I feel that we can win at least 3 of these 4 games.
Anyone other than me think Chip Carey gets more excited when something bad happens to the Braves or the team he’s broadcasting for?? Maybe he should go back to the lovable losers in Chicago…he’d be excited all the time lol
Of course it could be worse, you could get screwed like most of us and have the MLB EI package on cable and get stuck watchin the two morons from SF who enjoy using the telestrator way too much and enjoy talkin about everything but the game going on even more than that.
If you think about it, history this season would dictate Frank Wren is waiting for Bennett to complete his rehab assignment before outright releasing him ala Glavine. Wouldn’t that be nice?
I come on this blog several times a week and notice you posting each time. You must be a wealthy guy. To write all of those short novels, you have a lot of time on your hands. Oh, and by the way,
PLEASE STOP IT WITH THE PAGE-LONG POSTS. PLEASE, STOP.
Necromancer, Yea I dreaded seeing Bennet’s mug in the Braves’ dugout last night. He’s he out of options?? If so DFA!!!!!! I hate his very exsistance on the team. Norton needs to go and his duties be placed apon Conrad and Infante when he returns.
Supes, who really cares if the Phillies get Halladay or not? He is one guy that pitches every 5th day, not going to make that big of a difference the way they are playing now anyways. The way they are playing they could trade for the our AAA team and it still wouldnt help or hurt them in any way. They are hot right now.
These fans that get all personal with players kill me. So your saying you would rather mess up the great chemistry we have going with Prado at second jut so your lame Kelly Johnson can come back?
That makes a lot of sense! I think the best thing for Johnson is what French Boy did…. get out of town!
Anyone ever notice Chip’s “goat laugh”? He’ll be talking about something and in the middle he amuses himself, but he of course keeps talking and his speech will break into a kind of cross between a laugh and a goat bleeting. Listen up for it; I’m certain it will happen multiple times tonight.
fleming We’re talking about Norton and Bennett here. If you pull up his stats, Loaf has been very consistent with a slight decline, It’s not a shock Loafy is doing well. Bobby should give up on Norton.
Since “time is money” and I try to adhere to writing principle of K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid), here is a complimentary Reader’s Digest version of Paul Lentz blurbs for the last several days:
Peter Moylan sux in the 7th inning
Bobby Cox is too loyal to BUMS like Frenchy, Norton, Bennett, KJ
Frank Wren is executive of year
Texeria Trade not as bad as some see it
Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can’t hurt me
Live Free and Post Long, LOL
For the record, I particularly enjoy Lentz’s rather **AHEM** dissertations . . .
Exactly, they were both cracking me up in last night’s game. Does anyone else get the feeling that Joe doesn’t care much broadcasting with Chip??? Like sometimes when Chip says crap that makes Joe well set it straight without makin Chip look stupid ofcourse. I don’t know maybe It’s just me
Frank Wren dropped the proverbial hammer on Bobby Cox and his Escobar nonsense. See, Cox thought he was going to run roughshod over Wren like he did John Schuerholz. I guess the old hof’er was in for a rude awakening.
*******************************
That is a very ignorant statement. Roy Halladay makes the Phillies instant NL contenders alongside the Dodgers and will be head and shoulders above anyone else.
In a 5 game series (first round)
the Phillies can bring out (if they DO get Halladay)
Halladay and Hamels for 2 games each, and throw A.J. Happ (very servicable) in the middle game.
So tell me, why aren’t you concerned again? Perphaps b/c the Braves will not be in the playoffs, so it won’t matter this year?
I say it again…if the Phillies get Halladay, they should be fav. for the NL not only this year, but next. With that offense…getting a top tier RH pitcher alongside Cole Hamels (one of the better LH pitchers)…not good for anyone else around.
Did I hear that right? Chip’s doing TWO straight games? Tough diet for 4 of 5 games….annoying Fox, Morgan and ESPN, and Two chip games. What did we do to deserve this???????
I love you Paul Lentz!! You are very intelligent and have the most thought out, terrific posts! They are classics and don’t let these bafoons tell you any different. I mean it, you are GREAT!! Wish I had an e-mail to link you so we can talk without all the interuptions from these jerks here. I’ll get back to you!!
how are we going to be better off in 2010 then we are this year?
next year we are going to have to restructure the whole back end on the bull pen
wont have as much starting pitching depth, by that i mean our triple a team aint going to have tons of major league ready pitching
still going to need a big bat to protect chipper,
with that being said maybe we should be more of a buyer this year. they are playng great and have a real good chance at the post season with the good karma going around
fleming Yes we have a Robert, or Unknown. His slow injury and wanting royal treatment(skip minor rehab) did get on people’s nerves. Mine too. Looking at Loaf he’s halfway to his normal HR’s and about right with batting avg.. Loaf is being Loaf. I love how we deleted the “black holes” with Frenchy and Bennett.
I think Dense may be a character of Bubdylan’s fertile mind. I know Bub’s gone through a dark period for a while, and those circumstances might spawn such a persona. Because, my friends, nobody and I mean nobody, is as much over-the-top in real life as Dense.

ChipperFan,
I recall the conversation but last night was the first time I saw Hanson in a game. I sure hope he has a long and healthy career.
It appeared to me that he limped off the mound several times, as if his delivery was bothering his hip.
Then again, Smoltzy seemed to have ideal mechanics and his elbow was shot before he reached his late 20s.

What worries me, though, is that Bobby has Norton back now. Bennett is almost done with rehab, and we all know how Bobby loves using those two.
Maybe Wren will put on the “presidential hat” and ship those two bums outta here.
We can only hope…

If you think about it, history this season would dictate Frank Wren is waiting for Bennett to complete his rehab assignment before outright releasing him ala Glavine. Wouldn’t that be nice?
Just a thought to stir the pot.

With that offense…getting a top tier RH pitcher alongside Cole Hamels (one of the better LH pitchers)…not good for anyone else around.

how are we going to be better off in 2010 then we are this year?
next year we are going to have to restructure the whole back end on the bull pen
wont have as much starting pitching depth, by that i mean our triple a team aint going to have tons of major league ready pitching
still going to need a big bat to protect chipper,
with that being said maybe we should be more of a buyer this year. they are playng great and have a real good chance at the post season with the good karma going around
