medlen in?!!……somone must knocked bobby out and made the call to the bullpen for him
By the way, here’s a little tidbit for those of you who “doubt” about whether players get on the internet to read about what is being said and written about them: In an interview earlier today, Yunel Escobar acknowledge that while he may not speak English good enough to do interviews, he does understand English. He also said that he goes on the internet to see what is being said and written about him.
Or did I just imagine reading that?
If it aint broke, dont fix it. I dont want KJ back up here messing with the
mojo. He can come back in sept. We could have been leading the division right now if martin had been our 2b at the begining off the season. I am certain that KJ and JF were the “guys” chipper was referring to when he said “some guys last year were just content to be in the majors”. Prado wants to win and he earned that spot. Let kj stay in aaa or on the bench plucking his eyebrows, i dont care.
Joe Simpson had a career .607 OPS.
I’m not surprised.
Steve from OH
July 20th, 20099:59 pm
RHR–I think Marteen should start, no doubt, but Kelly is much better than some of the chaps we’ve got on the bench…
July 20th, 200910:00 pm
Walk? Come on. We both know he doesn’t do that anymore.
Geez. What are they teaching these kids from Gwinnett County?
Walks are OK.
The Braves have the wild-card wrapped up now. The Giants ain’t got nothing for us. I mean, their bullpen gave up six runs in one inning. That will happen in each of the next three games. “Bank on it!”
Also, Escobar said that family and friends who read what is written about him tell him what they come across.
Yet, some of you accuse me of being a MORON for having the nerve to think that what is said in blogs “somehow” ends up back to them? Imagine that.
July 20th, 200910:01 pm
NO MORE BOBBY
I smell wild card!!!!
This Team is on a roll right now…!
Good game blog.
How does Escobar’s reading the blog effect what Frank Wren does?
July 20th, 200910:02 pm
11 pitch inning. way to go Kris
Mixxo-Now thats the ballgame…..
Stealing My Lingo…Love It!
I heard Joe talking about Bennett coming back?
Allowing Jeff Bennett back on this team is like beating lung cancer and starting back smoking.
July 20th, 200910:03 pm
Great win. I love this team. Tommy Freakin Hanson with the comeback, old man chipper and loaf with the HRs, matty d with the clutch hit, yunel with the everything…send him our congrats for potw if he lets you talk to him, Carroll.
July 20th, 200910:04 pm
Last I heard, BC had named Prado as the starting second baseman before KJ went to the DL. We all know how stubborn BC is about changing roles once they’ve been assigned. Prado would have to go into a tremendous funk before KJ gets a chance to take his position back (assuming KJ gets back from Gwinnett).
I agree with Steve from OH, KJ is a much better bench guy than some of the folks currently on the roster.
RHR, even though you bashed me earlier, I’m with you all the way on KJ. He has no business in the bigs unless it’s as an occasional PH.
I’m thrilled Hanson got the win!!!!
Within 3.5 of WC. And Tommy Hanson just can not lose.
BAS And, shout-out (really, did I just say shout-out) to my boy McCann: excellent job ball-blocking tonight.
Sorry…yeah, I guess that was wishful thinking on my part.
Good night, all. See you for the next one.
July 20th, 200910:05 pm
PS–Geez. What are they teaching these kids from Gwinnett County?
the real Andy
Crime Dog – “If you have ever pitched before, which it sounds like you haven’t”
I coulda been a contender! i had a golden arm when i was 12, absolutely golden. i coulda been somebody
I had a major “Matty bash” post ready to submit when he hit that triple.
Lets keep this up guys!
Smoltz just gave up three homers in the same inning to Texas
RHR……………TOTALLY agree with your 9:58pm posting. KEEP KELLY JOHNSON AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, KEEP JEFF BENNETT AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as well.
July 20th, 200910:06 pm
What are the odds of winning the Wild Card at now?
Still better shot at winning the division?
Not being a smart a–, really am curious.
Rob from SC, really? Cruz has come crashing back down to Earth? He has 3 HRs in his last 5 games and is still on pace for 41 HRs, 23 SBs, about 100 RBIs with a 90+ runs scored. I will take a player who is crashing like that any day of the week. Now, not necessarily for Javy though!
Great win Bravos!!!! Impressive start by Tommy tonite! This is a much needed jolt out of the kid. Let’s go get another one tomorrow!!
I just switched to the Altanta Braves West game (Texas Rangers), and the Rangers just put a six spot up on Smoltzie.
July 20th, 200910:07 pm
Lentz-You are a lost cause,FUJIMO
Of course, Nellie does have a broken finger…
I hear ya zook!
KEEP KELLY JOHNSON AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Though you have no empirical evidence to support this. Bye bye, Dentz.
and one of those 3 homers was to Salty!
July 20th, 200910:08 pm
If the Brewers go on to lose…down 6-1 right now (after 3rd)…the Braves will be tied for 4th in the WC. Probably 4 games back because the Rockies look like they will go on to win and take the WC lead.
Salty took em deep, too.
and those 3 homers may have just dropped the Red Sox into a first place tie with the Yankees.
Boy, I hate the Red Sox. Smoltz being there only makes me want to see them lose even more.
Steve from OH……………oh, so you are saying that Frank Wren is “exempt” from having his family or friends telling him what is being said about him online?
You still havent addressed what I said about John Schuerholtz calling a press conference to address the uproar that came as a result of Tom Glavine being released. A lot of the commotion was the result of internet blogging and talk radio.
Yet, I imagined all that, right?
July 20th, 200910:09 pm
The Braves will pass Arizona for 7th in runs scored in the NL tonight barrins some miracle.
KJ… WILL… be called back up… before the year is out….(Conrad & Norton ???…Got ta go))
Don’t be surprised if this Smoltz collapse lands Roy Halladay on the Red Sox roster by the weekend.
Bay Area Steve
July 20th, 200910:10 pm
Not sure why a seventeen-year-old girl is saying thank-you for her mann blocking the ball tonight. But, I am half-drunk, and I think the Braves are over .500, so I’ll let it pass. Unless Lentz can write an eleven-paragraph treatise explaining why.
abwright………..check again. Bobby named Prado the starting second baseman and the next day Kelly was put on the DL.
I don’t think I care what “the numbers” suggest. I think the WC is considerably more realistic.
Tom hardy is a maverick cop whos not afraid to rock the boat in pursuit of a sadistic serial killer. Demoted to river patrol after suggesting the killer may be a fellow cop he initiates an unauthorized investigation which kicks the high-powered plot into overdrive (STEVE)
you are only looking at this years stats and I’m not yet a believer in them. His OBP last season was 307. He had a good year at Danville after a poor rookie year and las year pretty much was poor except power. I’m not sold yet on a guy who has had that much trouble in the low minors. I do have hope though
July 20th, 200910:11 pm
I say why not the Wild Card??? Those teams that get the Wild Card do some great things in the postseason. F.. the Phillies lets work on catching the teams ahead of us in the WC. Postseason is all it takes!
N9(Escobar is THE future& NOT tradable)
Unknown You continue to deliver strong baseball posts;
Could be another no hitter tonight. 7:34
Tommy is getting lit up. BALLGAME! 7:35
Hanson wont get out of the 4th tonight.7:40
Oh, forgot to say it….BALLGAME! 7:43
7.5 back. SEASON OVER!!! 7:45
….no comments..until McLouth drop….
I’m really beginning to hate Nate McLouth. He cost us this game.8:58
This game is OVER9:01
Diaz is pathetic.9:11
Like I said, Diaz is pathetic…wait nevermind, lol 9:13
I am a complete WASTE 9:13
….Oh we know Unknown, We know
The Giants pen had to throw 69 pitches tonight. That could help by Weds and Thurs.
RHR regarding your post on KJ, I agree wholeheartedly.
July 20th, 200910:12 pm
I think Gonzo pitching tonight was showcasing on a trade!!
I know the Blue Jays don’t WANT to trade him within the division, but they’ll take the best offer they can get for em. And with the Red Sox now tied with the Yankees for first place, and Smoltz not exactly pitching like Cy Young, the Red Sox brass might feel the need to something big to make sure they win the division.
BSPN said the Braves would like to add another bat, and would be willing to move Javy. It is obvious they don’t follow the Braves like they used to. The Braves will/may add a bat but they won’t move a horse like Javy. He is needed to anchor this staff even with Hudson coming back
JasonInFL………………while I like Javier Vazquez, if Texas wanted to trade Nelson Cruz STRAIGHT UP for Javier Vazquez………I’d do it in a heartbeat.
Um…Bay Area Steve…I meant “Thank you” in my 10:04. All that Hogan’s Heroes watching got the best of me…
July 20th, 200910:13 pm
I get frustrated, like you, always getting the opponent’s feed on EI. Being a Kuiper/Krukow (Giant’s announcers) fan, I’m curious if you got’em, and if you found ‘em listenable.
Big Red Will Be The Rookie of the Year “Bank on It!”
And If the league isn’t down with that then we’ve got 2 words for them!
July 20th, 200910:15 pm
3.5 back in the wild card race. we are o-fficially IN IT.
I think we all owe Paul Lentz a huge debt of gratitude. He got us back over .500.
Thank you, sir.
July 20th, 200910:16 pm
I am almost sure Texas would do Cruz straight up for Vazquez. I am not sure the Braves would.
Man how cool was it watching Matty on the replay blast out of the box and fly around for that triple. He really runs hard/ plays hard.
Okay I am officially putting a Jinx on them sumbitch philies!!! consider yourself Jinxed cheesesteak eaters, you shall not win another game this month!
I’m with you, man.
I know it’s not going to be easy to overtake four or five teams for the wild card, but it’s going to be impossible to chase down a team that apparently isn’t going to lose for the rest of the season. And who is seven games ahead in the loss column. Or is it eight?
Why would we want to trade Gonzo? Have you seen our bullpen outside of Soriano?
Oh and we will probably be 4 back in the Wild Card.
Hanson has not yet lost in the majors, and is 295 wins away from 300…can he do it?
July 20th, 200910:17 pm
Trade Javy Vasquez for Nelson Cruz? Absolutley.
J.A. Happ, if he keeps up his performance, and does not get traded may win the NL Rookie of the Year.
Holy Crap. I just agreed with Paul Lentz on something.
I dont feel so good….
July 20th, 200910:18 pm
Where are all the bloggers who crucified Frank Wren for not re-signing Smoltz? They seeem to be hidden every fifth day.
Paul Lentz, 10:10 pm, abwright………..check again. Bobby named Prado the starting second baseman and the next day Kelly was put on the DL.
Didn’t I say that BC named Prado the starting second baseman before KJ went onto the DL? I didn’t necessarily say months before, just before. And, the way I read it at the time, the two transactions were not related.
Jeff Francoeur’s stats after 7 games with the Mets: .344 average, 10 hits, 8 RBIs, 2 doubles, and 1 home run.
July 20th, 200910:19 pm
if the rockies lose tonight, we are only three games out of the wild card.
The A Bomb
NOW YOU ARE LEARNING BOBBY. . .
July 4 – Pulled Hanson when he was in control of the game. . . LOSS
July 20 – Left him in to get the final out of the 7th . . . WIN
Attaboy Bobby, way to learn from your life experiences (notice I didn’t use the word “mistakes”)!
July 20th, 200910:20 pm
Steve from OH…………….you cant quit with the name calling can you? I have refrained from calling anyone a moron today. Yet you wont let it go.
Kelly as batting .214 with 5 homers and 20 walks in 234 at-bats. Why would the Braves want to see ANYMORE of that crap this year? Keep him in Triple A and work on showing some CONSISTENCY. Have him play winter ball and then see how he does in Spring Training. Make him EARN his way back on the team.
However, my concern is what happens if the Braves were to tender him a contract? He could get $4-5 mil next year in salary arbitration. I would not want the Braves to risk that. Sure, he could be offered the 20% maximum cut that the collective bargaining agreement allows. However arbitrators do not always rule the right way.
Be sure to get back to us at the end of September. Be intersted to see what the stats look like then.
The Blogger Formerly known as Billy
Wow, did not know people would trade Cy Young Calibre Pitcher. Becasue that is what your suggesting. If the Braves offense was any good at the start of the year…JV would be in the middle of the cy young debate.
J.A Happ has been doing great, but I have to imagine its a little easier to throw your game when you know your team will put some runs up behind you like that Phils lineup can.
The Rockies are already up 10-1 in the fourth. So it doesn’t look good.
Andy , don’t count on the Rox losing, they are blistering hot!
July 20th, 200910:22 pm
N9(Escobar is THE future& NOT tradable)………………great posting at 10:11pm. You had me laughing with that one, lol.
Andy K. -
Uh…really? 3.5 games back if the Rockies lose. They won’t though.
just because you said so lentz the popper
Kelly has a career .270 EqA, .340 wOBA and .780-ish OPS. This is an above-average hitter, and one that deserves a spot on the team, at least over Norton or Conrad. Nobody said anything about next year. If you really think they shouldn’t bring him up…well, there ain’t much hope for you.
Javy Vazquez is not going to be traded for Nelson Cruz…
Anyone just hear Bobby? Asked if Yunel moving to the fifth spot has made the difference… He said without hesitation “PRADO! He makes this lineup go.” lol. Exactly like that too.
Great win for the Braves. Man, I’d give my eyeteeth to see young Hanson pitch.
That said, there are a few posters on here that need to show a little balance. Hanso today: 7IP 5H 3ER. Outstanding. Kaweakami the other day 6 2/3 IP 5H 2ER, and yet there are those that constantly, constantly harp on what a “disappointment” and a “waste” his signing has been. You guys need top show a little love- the man has kept us in just about every game he’s pitched, including facing Halladay, Santana and others and coming up big. Yeah, guys dig the high cheese and serious strikeout pitchers, but c’mon.
Enough with the complaining, though. Another great win, and a resurgent offense since the All Star break. Gotta love the spark we’ve shown of late! We need to get some runs for JJJ and Javy (and Kenshin, who has the worst run support of the lot, I think) now!
July 20th, 200910:24 pm
13 out of 19.
Psychologically, being over .500 is sooooo much better than being .500.
July 20th, 200910:25 pm
Red Sox took a risk that they could afford to take on Smoltz. At the time we had Vazquez and Jurrjens in our rotation. Wren couldn’t afford to put to much money into an aging pitcher who unfortunatly becuase of injury let us down last year. Knowing his history with us it was a hard decision to make. But I understand why he did it. Didn’t want to see him go but I understood the move. Red Sox took a calculated risk and payed him more money. We at our current state could not afford to do that.
Fun game to watch. I’m getting used to this winning thing again.
Hanson is damn sure a gamer!
Plate Appearance…………..Franceour’s stats against the Braves in the recent 4 game series: 3 for 16, batting .188. 0 doubles, 0 homers, 3 RBIs, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts.
Would Javy even wave the clause to go to Texas? He has to be REALLY happy right now in Atlanta. He is having his best year in his career…he likes Bobby Cox…likes being close to P.R…..and the team is back in the play-off hunt.
July 20th, 200910:26 pm
I see Smoltz got lit up again. It’s almost as if offering him $5 million was a stupid idea. Oh wait…
July 20th, 200910:27 pm
Any idea how Escobar feels about batting 6th? — Superhoo
I don’t know. I’ll ask him tomorrow. Oh, wait … nevermind.
