John………….Scott Boros did not “allow” Matt Holliday go to Oakland. The A’s traded for him with the intention of flipping Holliday before the trading deadline for a boatload of prospects. This was Billy Beane’s idea. Boros had nothing to do with it.

Anyone who wants to rag on Diaz…..just remember the loser who was in right until he went to NY. Yeah, the guy who had the worst OBP of ANY regular with 2500 or more AB’s. Remember also the guy who was manning second base before Prado grabbed it by the throat and took it away! (KJ)
Frenchy and KJ have puked on their shoes in front of Bobby for the better part of a couple of years and it barely gets a mention by some here.
Diaz has a lot of 0′fers before even getting close to what KJ and Frenchy have done in some stretches the last couple of years.

That’s what some of us mean about Casey and his glove. How many times have you seen a 1st baseman bobble that or make a bad throw to extend the inning and wear his pitcher down? I know I’ve seen it a ton.

3 straight 1-2-3 innings for Hanson. 77 pitches through 5 innings. If he has another easy inning in the 6th, perhaps Bobby will bring him out for the 7th.
However, chances are the 6th will be his last inning. Regardless if he can get through the 6th, then I’ll be happy, considering the start he got off to.

Were the references to Deer and Kittle about power and SOs, was it the overall package with defense? Those 2 guys were not great Defensive players. Could be worse. Could have been called a RH Pete Incaviglia.

John……….Colorado was trying to dump payroll. Billy Beane is the kind of GM who loves to make the “superstar for prospects” kind of trade. He gambled that Holliday would get off to a good start, therefore putting him in a position of commanding a king’s ransom for Holliday.
However, just like Jeff Francoeur’s gamble didnt pay off when he turned down a similar contract that the Braves signed Brian McCann to…….it looks like that Billy Beane’s gamble wont pay off either.

And while we’re at it, where are all the rocket scientists here who have been saying the last couple of years that Prado was a utility player and not fit to be in the lineup on a daily basis?
I just love it when so called “experts” try to pigeon hole a player with that “utility” label. A guy who can play numerous positions but is in the lineup every day isn’t just a “utility” player!
Maybe we’ll be lucky enough when Infante comes back to have another “utility” player who isn’t worthy to play every day performing at a very high level.

Steve…is it possible ….knowing MH would hit …well…like MH hits… everywhere but Coors…that Boras could have seen this coming…and advised MH to go ahead and sign with Rockies for 1 more year at a discount…and maintain his “mirage”…or accepted the 4 year deal and then asked to be trade after the next year…ALL kinds of ways to avoid this “not so good situation for MH”…if you’re smart enough to come up with them….

I expect the Astros and Marlins to fall out pretty soon.
If the Brewers don’t get a top starter the pitching will falter.
The Giants must not have a drop off in pitching.
I think theCardinals win the Central and the WC comes down to us and the Cubs

giants have great pitching, but it seems like they are not a great road team, and their hitting approach seems a lot like the braves early in the year. sure, they look great when Cain and Lincecum are pitching and win those games 1-0 and 2-1, but i think they will falter down the stretch because of their lack of offense on the road.

John………….Scott Boras isnt the kind of GM who will have his client sign a 1 year contract extension. The only way he would have a player he represents sign a 1 year contract is if his team offers him salary arbitration and no other team is going to offer what he feels his client is worth (kind of like what Greg Maddux did after the 2002 season when he saw that he couldnt command the kind of contract he wanted. Maddux accepting salary arbitration forced the Braves to dump Kevin Millwood because they couldnt afford to pay him as well).
Simply put, Scott Boras would not have his client sign a 1 year extension when he is 1 year away from free agency. No freaking way.

Paul…can we agree then…that maybe Boras should have advised MH to take the 4 year /$72 deal from the Rockies…then go ahead andhit his .330 with 35 HR’s or more…and then let the Rockies trade the “signed” MH to any “idiot” willing to overpay for him….(and they’re out there)
