Needless to say, the Cardinals wish they had done that deal, since Soriano would be their closer right now.”
I’m sure the Cardinals wish they had done this deal, but Ryan Franklin has been lights out as their closer, so I don’t think it’s a given that Soriano would have taken his job.

That means nothing as far as being a hitting coach. Plenty of guys who were great hitters cant or couldnt teach hitting – and plenty who werent such great hitters were in fact were or are good teachers of the fundamentals of hitting.

OK AF Jason…..Not a coward. Good response. Renteria…maybe..ok I will give you Renteria. Kotsay was a pro hitter more than 10 years before he got here. Prado doesn’t have enough ABs. La Roche, wasn’t he having some problems making adjustments before the Braves traded him? Need to go back and see. Yes TP was an MVP and I love him as a player and coach but think he gets a free pass as a hitting coach and we can do much better. Jaramillo takes scrubs and makes hitters out of them! Baylor has done the same thing. I just cannot fathom an entire opening day lineup of guys who have hit during every stage of their career come to Atlanta and ABSOLUTELY STINK!
I am not a special kind of idiot. I am a mathematician……and the common denominator is Terry Pendleton.
I love the guy, but the guy is just not a good hitting coach. During his career, his batting style was unorthadox and he certainly was never compared to Tony Gwynn and I honestly think he IS the problem with the Braves hitting woes.

Said it before, and I’ll say it again: Cox is Typhoid Mary to relievers. He burns them out. Which is what’s happening to Gonzales and Moylan, was happening to Bennett, and will happen soon to O’Flaherty. When it comes to a feel for the game, Cox has a tin ear.

Fair enough – everyone’s entitled to opinions. Rudy seems to be able to teach players who have learning disabilities to listen. That’s a gift and a great trait for a hitting coach. But not everyone can be Rudy.
I just think that it’s usually the hitters that are to blame, not the hitting coach.
