actually, the slump really started after he crashed into the backstop on June 22, and then there was the dizziness a couple days later, which they said was from the flu
McFann, you’re right. I forgot about that. I almost wish he wasn’t playing in the AS game (don’t kill me!). Goodnight.
Francoeur showed his trademark power lol “Francoeur responded with a well-placed blooper over the head of first baseman Joey Votto(notes), driving in Angel Pagan and Luis Castillo”
Another great win. Great pitching, good defense & just enough offense to take the victory. I’m hoping for a blow out tomorrow, rack up 4-5 runs in the first & cruise for once.
It’s been since July 1st since the Braves have had a game decided by 3 runs or more, the majority have been 1-2 run games. It wouldn’t hurt in the least for Moylan & Soriano to have a nice 4 day rest, they are going to need it for the second half.
Even though they only scored 4 runs the offense is looking a little better. Still need McCann & Chipper to get on a roll for a few weeks. Maybe after the break.
I realize that the players love Bobby Cox and that he is a HOF manager. But the truth is that Cox is the primary reason that the Braves won only 1 World Series during their historic run. Bobby sticks with players for all the wrong reasons and Francoeur was one of those players. Even if he becomes a superstar with the Mets, trading him was the right thing to do.
I believe Medlen is going tomorrow. Hope we get him about 3-4 runs early to make it a bit easier on the kid. I love his attitude. Reminds me a bit of Marcus Giles.
Hopefully Bobby won’t kill any more arms before the end of the first half.
That was one time this roadtrip when using Gonzo in the 8th would have made sense. And if he hadn’t been overworked he probably would have shut ‘em down.
Does anybody mind how often I say “‘em” instead of “them”? Just going for that conversational style.
With Broxton hurt, there’s a chance that Soriano could still make the All-Star team. Cox left a message with Charlie Manuel tonight, they played phone tag, haven’t spoke yet.
Great game tonight. JJ his usual self. Good defensive effort. Hernandez is starting to look more comfortable at SS. Dude can’t hit a lick though
(Belliard, anyone). Chipper and McCann both seem to get one good hit per game and then they are done. Soriano is dominating. He was “Filthy” tonight.
Saw Francouer’s 2 hits and have to say, He ain’t gonna make it in the”Big Apple” with that swing. It is still the same ugly crap as in ATL. The Mets jersey didn’t help it look better at all, well maybe better than in a Braves jersey. Francouer vs. Church. JF got the 2 hits, but Church had the better swings and most importantly, The better ABs. Church hit that one pitch a long ways to LCF for a noisy out. He took an o-fer, but I will take him over JF anyday. ATL will walk away with a steal by the end of the year.
I can’t imagine there’s a more dominate closer in the game right now than Soriano. If there is…NO, there isn’t, period! Get that dude to the A.S. game.
Well it looks like Frenchy had a nice night. I saw the first hit, the bloop that scored two. Was the second a repeat? There was just oo many games going at once. Smoltz was pitching tonight, Phillies/Pirates, Mets/Reds & the Braves.
On another note. Acosta has really come on. He is finally earning BC’s confidence. I know Gonzo wasn’t available, but still a good road trip for Acosta.

Brian Jordan can’t pronounce words properly like Sariano instead of Soriano, slida instead of slider, and the stutters and brain farts he gets before he can finish what he’s trying to say
Brian Jordan is slightly challenged. I used to find him annoying but he’s gotten a little better. Not to say that he probably doesn’t talk like that always but he’s definitely not what you would call a natural in front of the camera.
Ron Gant has a little trouble too but he has that clear even-toned speaking voice. I’m trying not to say “white” because that would be offensive but, well…
I love Ron Gant. He was one of my favorite players back in the day. As important as McGriff was that year, Ron Gant was phenominal… wow, haven’t used that word on the blog before.
But you know what? I’m tired of blaming Bobby, I’m tired of blaming Lonnie. He should have scored but Ronnie was up with runners at second and third and no outs and what does he do? Little weak ground ball to first.
I seem to recall that in the 9th inning of Game 6 in the ‘92 WS he had a chance to drive in the winning run and flied out.
But you know what? I’m tired of blaming Bobby, I’m tired of blaming Lonnie. He should have scored but Ronnie was up with runners at second and third and no outs and what does he do? Little weak ground ball to first.
Of course I’m refering to the 8th inning of Game 7 of the ‘91 World Series in case that was unclear.
Then again, Sid had the bases loaded with a chance to be even more of a hero and didn’t get it done either.
Q: Church gets a bad rap defensively. Yet the statistics (UZR and +/-) suggest he’s a slightly above-average defender. Tell us about his glove work from a fans’ perspective.
A: He’s not Roberto Clemente but Church is definitely an above average right fielder. He even filled in for Carlos Beltran in center field very capably on occasion this season. His arm is very good, not as good as Francoeur though. And he has surprising range for his body type plus good instincts on the ball. An above average fielder is a perfect description of him.

Macay McBride (Screven County. Another high draft pick) — Traded to Detroit. Hurt arm bad.
Nick Green — Bounced around several organizations. Was not in majors last year. Now starting SS for the Red Sox, though he is in a huge slump.
Josh Burrus (Wheeler High, sandwich pick) — Never advanced far up the ladder in Braves minor league system. Last known whereabouts — independent league ball. Like Frenchy, was a Clemson signee.
Richard Lewis (Pope High, Georgia Tech) — dealt to the Cubbies, if I remember correctly. Can’t remember if he was a Braves draft pick, but I seem to recall that yes, he was.
Since Willie Harris was not a Braves signee (not that I recall), he is not included.

“His fastball is just crazy,” Jurrjens said of Soriano, who lowered his ERA to 1.48 and raised his strikeout total to 58 (with 15 walks) in 42-2/3 innings, including seven strikeouts in three scoreless innings in his past three games.
“He throws a fastball down the middle and it just explodes,” Jurrjens said. “I wish I could do it that easily, throw it down the middle and they swing and miss.”
Sorry- I tried to get it to stop but apparently I failed miserably
Actually, you didn’t. The two days that you promised me it wouldn’t rain, Thursday and Friday, it didn’t. Today has been on and off with showers and T-storms, all day. That’s OK. Tomorrow night is when we put out the trash. Plus it’s the last game before the break. I can watch it here, can’t down there (unless it’s on TBS or ESPN).
I’ll think I’ll be okay but keep me in your thoughts.
In closing, I have to say I don’t think there’s any reason we can’t have as many wins as the Giants. I don’t know what to make of these Braves, there’s no reason why we can’t stay in it and/or win it but I don’t like what Bobby’s been doing with the bullpen. I like how we’re playing but we should be a lot better. If not for Gonzo getting overworked we could already be over .500 by now.
I’ll tip my cap to Scott Olsen in D.C and even that Cub pitcher as much as I’m loathe to do so… fancy talk, huh? But there’s no way we should have blown those other two games. I try not to point the finger at Bobby but I have to.
We should be 7-2 on this trip and we should have more wins overall. I fully expect our own replacement starter Medlen to throw a no-no tomorrow like Mr. Sanchez by the bay.
We need a win tomorrow and a few extra runs for the M-Dogg wouldn’t hurt and I hope Brian hits a grand slam in St. Louie to shove it in Molina’s face.
cabravesfan – never mind – I apparently confused you with That One, who is practically perfect. And, not technically offended – maybe …no, can’t say that here.

Then I will try to get the rain to go away by Monday- I assume you will be off to parts unknown around then?
Either Monday of Tuesday. I want to make sure my car is OK first. It seems to be, but another couple days won’t hurt. Besides, all my buddies down there, are coming back tomorrow. So there’s no hurry.

PWHjort, the problem is, he gives it away. His spelling and punctuation are way too good.
The last thing we need is soriano in the allstar game. I am all for position players but it is nothing but trouble for pitchers. I say soriano tells them no and Atlanta pays him any AS bonus he might have anyway.
With Broxton and Cain out of the ALL STAR game….I hope Soriano and JJ get a shot, either one is deserving to get one of those 2 slots. Meanwhile “Kung Fu Panda” still left off the roster for that flying midget Victorino! Shame!
OK, I’m gonna print verbatim this e-mail that I received, obviously without giving the guy’s name.

Jason, don’t worry yourself too much.
Wow that’s aggresive.

McCann: “Big team win tonight. We did the little things early in the game. J.J. pitched great, Manny got the big out, and Soriano closed the door.”
McCann was pumped to hear Soriano has a shot at joining him on the All-Star team: “He’s so deserving.”

Mitchell, when you’re trying not to say it, it’s best to, you know, not say it. Cause you said it and you’re right, it is offensive.
Come on Cooper, clearly I didn’t mean that. I was kidding. Give me a break.

Either Monday of Tuesday. I want to make sure my car is OK first. It seems to be, but another couple days won’t hurt. Besides, all my buddies down there, are coming back tomorrow. So there’s no hurry.

Shame!
