I love this compulsion to bash Frenchy. The Braves are 7-3 in the last 10 games and most of those wins are with Jeff in the lineup and most of the loses are with him out of it. So we have gone 10 games or more without him costing us a loss, but y’all still feel compelled to pontificate on the problem. OCD is alive & well on the ol’ board as always.
Drive by blogger – question, how can you say Chipper “has a lot of game left, though his legs are shot”?
One of my favorite Braves’ hitters ever – Rico Carty – ended up with shot legs, and DH’g for the Red Sox, after a season or so at first base, I believe. He was a good hitter to the very end, though.
I think i know why both Bobby and Joe Simpson keep defending and excusing Francoeur. It’s because way back when, when they played baseball, they had many of his same problems. “Hit hard, but right at ‘em”, the favorite excuse. They see this modern-day reflection of themselves, and feel about Frenchy the way they felt back then. If only somebody believed in me, gave me a second (third, fourth, fifth, sixth…) chance. The problem is there are winners and losers. Bobby and Joe lost as players, now they win as an HOF manager and the guy who does every local TV Braves broadcast no matter what. It’s fairly obvious to us they Frenchy will not succeed in playing baseball. But Cox and Simpson, blinded by the pain of the past, just don’t want it to happen. They, like a lot of parents, want to relive the dream through the kid.
Maybe that’s too sophomoric, but it does explain it a bit. Doesn’t it?
Got here late, but everybody is missing the important part of the blog- lyrics from Robert Earl Keen. The man is the greatest American songwriter today, and he is way too unnoticed and underappreciated. He is stellar like Maddux and Glavine 10-12 years ago. Now let’s go get more runs- we’re gonna need them.
Hanson is not going to be perfect every night. Not worried about the last inning. Hits and homers just happen here. It’s Coors Field. I think there will be plenty of runs tonight anyway…
nolie, first of all, jeff has done absolutely nothing to contribute to the 7 out of 10 wins you referenced. I mean, it might as well have been me playing in his spot and the outcome would have been the same. second of all, I just don’t like him, mostly because he thinks he’s great and that the braves should be ashamed for ever questioning his greatness by benching him or sending him to the minors or not giving him as much money as he thinks he’s worth. So yeah, he’s always an easy target.
Escobar is my favorite player on this team. But, he really needs to work the MF count with the bases loaded! Sheesh. (Now if he gets a hit on the first or second pitch, you won’t hear a peep from me.)
That’s the only thing that really bothers me about Yunel. That flashy stuff he does doesn’t get me but him being too aggresive and the dp’s always seem to kill a rally.
Dear Brian McCann, I know you’ve been trying to be patient but with a 3 – 1 count and Yunel “El Double Playo” Escobar behind you, you have to swing.
