Hey wait…when is it on? I just checked FSS and SportSouth, and they aren’t showing it…at least not here and now…
David Athens, Al
ah. i got it Vazquez will open the Mets game (Thursday after all-star game) …. not bad …
I bet that Jeff Franceour is kicking himself for turning down the Braves contract offer when Brian McCann signed his. There is NO WAY that Francoeur will make anything more than the Major League minimum next year. He will be non-tendered by the Braves in the off season. Then he be invited as a non-roster invite who will have to have a good Spring Training to make some team’s roster. And if he does, he’ll get the Major League minimum.
Nice gamble there Francoeur. You just cost yourself $20 mil by betting that you’ll be a great player.
Yup, McFann – it’s over now. It was from 7-8pm.
But, they’re about to show a B-Mac interview on FSS in a few.

Nolie, I wish it was an exaggeration to say Thorman was better in his crappy stint as a Brave than Frenchy has been the last two years combined, but unfortunately it ain’t.
Frenchy, 2008: .653 OPS. Thorman, 2007: .657 OPS. Frenchy, 2009: .613 OPS. Frenchy, last two seasons combined: .640 OPS. Thorman as a Brave: .667 OPS.
Bobby "I'm an insane old fool" Cox
Eric in MO hit the nail on the head! The Braves may think they are shopping Frenchy, but who is gonna buy? Frenchy is dead as a Brave! Bank on it! So the idiot part of this whole deal is why is Cox playing him when Diaz is a better option? You need to score runs and Diaz is your best option for that.
Why is Frenchy playing? Read the screen name!
3-2 Reds, top of the 4th.
July 9th, 20098:09 pm
McFann: Braves live is on now on SS
Unbelievable…I left out the part about tipping my cap to the opposing pitchers….Frenchy will come around..only way he can come around is by playing
July 9th, 20098:10 pm
Eric from MO
I am not saying anyone will take him I am just saying this is the logic they are using. I agree with everyone about JF. But thinking from a club stand point this is what they have to do.
I havent been on this blog long but I have found that clear thinking does not always go on here. I am trying to see both sides. I would rather we go with Diaz and let the chips fall where they may with JF
I know Thorman doesn’t hit for a high average or play great defense but he has legit power and would give us what we need off the bench. Why don’t they just call him up and give Kotchman a breather every now and then. Havent heard anything on him lately and just wondering.
McFann, it’s on at 8:40 in Atlanta and 7:40 here in Chi-town. Btw the Braves Cubs series was AWESOME!
July 9th, 20098:11 pm
Wow…they actually sorta interviewed Loafy. I’ve never heard him talk.
Loaf…can actually talk
July 9th, 20098:12 pm
Frenchy looks like Mr. Ed
July 9th, 20098:13 pm
All is quiet on the trade front regarding the Braves. In the past, that meant a deal was about to go down. What do you think…something in the works?
“I left out the part about tipping my cap to the opposing pitchers….Frenchy will come around..only way he can come around is by playing”
so are we tipping our caps to certain pitchers or all of them that he’s faced since the all star break of 2007. I cant believe all these guys are pitching him so well. Especially those BP fastballs that he cant hit, but here’s to him turning it around to something he’s never been
July 9th, 20098:14 pm
Haaaaa CorkylikesBeer…Mr Ed. I rewinded just to see if that was true.
….The Braves may think they are shopping Frenchy, but who is gonna buy? … – Bobby “I’m an insane old fool” Cox
You mean after Frenchie goes 32 for 50 with 6 dongs, 2 triples and 8 doubles before the deadline?
Vazquez strained lower abdominal muscle, flew home and got MRI that showed nothing serious. Braves hope to have him rest over break and move to back of rotation after break, thus avoiding DL stint. But they’ll know more early next week.
July 9th, 20098:15 pm
I really think the Braves should’ve kept Ryan Langerhans because he can carry a team with his glove, YES his glove I said. How many runs did he save when he was a Brave? Tell me that! Now they are stuck with Garret Anderson and his well below average glove. Hated seeing him go.
Steve from OH
So I take it Medlen will start in JV’s place?
July 9th, 20098:16 pm
Braves biggest trade chip injured…some on here will be elated while others will be suicidal…about right I guess.
July 9th, 20098:17 pm
“Oh, man, LOL. The sheer attitude that being one of the winningest managers in the history brings. How dare that sucker not bare his soul to, to…what was your name again?”
You mean the guy with all 14 of those division titles and only 1 WS win? He is a great regular season manager but not so much in the post season. I will take guys like Torre who can manage in the post season.
Did they say who’s going to be starting in place of Vazquez?
(Somehow, I feel like it’s already been mentioned and I missed it…which would be just.my.luck.)
July 9th, 20098:18 pm
DOB, who will replace Javy on Sunday?
“The sheer attitude that being one of the winningest managers in the history brings.”
Hmm. Nobody wanted Glavine around because he was old and past his prime? Why doesn’t/didn’t he get cut the same slack as Bobby does? After all, Glavine had more RECENT success than Bobby has.
For almost four years running, Bobby has been a mediocre manager. Or at least his teams have finished in a mediocre fashion.
While were NOT holding Bobby accountable for his decisions because he’s been a winner in the past, why not have Hank Aaron play RF? After all, he’s one of the greatest hitters of all time. He should STILL be able to do the job, right?
I’m not looking for Bobby to specifically answer MY questions. But, as the manager of a losing major league club, that keeps putting one of the (if not THE) worst hitters in all of baseball in the lineup night after night.
Is that too much to ask, as to wonder why?
Braves fans should conspire to kidnap Francoeur. It’s our best hope.
July 9th, 20098:19 pm
[brain explodes] Steve
Another one bites the dust…
July 9th, 20098:20 pm
YO Craig — now I liked Ryan just fine too, but c’mon dude…….. carry a team with his glove???? I’m not saying your crazy, I’m just saying to remember the old saying — PUFF ,,, PUFF ,,,, PASS !!! Don’t BOGART !!!
July 9th, 20098:21 pm
You can’t kidnap Francoeur, nobody would pay a ransom.
I’m trying to imagine this blog if Francoeur ever does leave. I keep seeing a barren wasteland, devoid of posts, bloggers scratching their heads in a vain search for a subject.
That, or 4000 posts a day of “I’m glad he’s gone” instead of “he blows”, followed by the same content currently being posted, LOL. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
July 9th, 20098:22 pm
Frenchy has been using the whole field…
N8: “Is that too much to ask, as to wonder why?”
What did loaf say??
July 9th, 20098:23 pm
Paul Lentz would have nothing left to post, for starters.
I keep seeing a barren wasteland, devoid of posts, bloggers scratching their heads in a vain search for a subject. scoots
Well, the remaining sane, rational fans can discuss the greatness of Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg.
July 9th, 20098:24 pm
Cameron- nothing is going down with the braves on the trade sitaution. not gonna happen for 3 weeks if any trades were to happen. they are stuck with their payroll, and with vazquez being hurt and the team needing him, this is essentially going to be the team come september, unless the braves fall out of cotention before july 31, and then they might look at prospects. but do not look for a big trade or a big bat coming to atlanta
I don’t know, Frenchy kinda looks like Ralph Macchio with a bigger nose.
For what? You know what?! Nevermind, I don’t want to know…
July 9th, 20098:25 pm
unbelievable – Thanks for the update on Campillo.
Nova Scotia Steve
I don’t like the sounds of this…so who starts on Sunday now…Medlen?
Loafy was talking about how it is playing at Coors.
Hell if I know. Ask ncscoots.
July 9th, 20098:26 pm
“You can’t kidnap Francoeur, nobody would pay a ransom.”
Well Dave,I hope you find that creative way to ask Bobby why he’s putting his desires before what’s best for the TEAM.?Why is JF starting over MD?Man it runs me hot so I can just imagine how Matt feels.
Speaking of the Dude, he’s 2-2 tonight. Oberholtzer 6 scoreless, 4 hits, no walks, 7 strikeouts. Not bad.
July 9th, 20098:27 pm
What’s Up dear friends…lol. Been busy with college stuff. I guess it’ll prepare me for not being able o watch baseball everyday like I have for the past 3-4 yrs….sigh.
Ah, dangit…so I coulda been watching that instead of…doing whatever I was doing? Man…
Hu, I’m prob’ly too late for his interview on Braves Live!, too. Shoulda gotten back on here sooner…but thanks!
Thanks…I was actually asking what time the Spotlight was on…but I missed it, of course.
Btw the Braves Cubs series was AWESOME!
Yeah, it was pretty good, seein’ as how they won the series…the first game was a piece of crud.
Um…over and under on whether BMac will get a hit with men on first and second tonight?
July 9th, 20098:28 pm
MRI and CT scan on Schafer again showed “only” a bone bruise in his left wrist. He’s gonna get a second opinion on Monday, after Braves hand specialist examined him and the pictures.
AlabamaBrave, Oh. I thought you were being an ass. Apparently, you’d like to know as well?
think frnchy meant “use the whole infield”

I’m in for a mill. Charlie?
There’s a serious pitchers duel unfolding in Philly
DOB – So you’re not going to tell us what Bobby said about Frenchy?
Dang….4-4 in Philly.
I really like Oberholtzer. I think it’s because he has a weird name, and I like weird names. Not too sure why, though, since mine is pretty normal.
Well, the remaining sane, rational fans can discuss the greatness of Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg. – Roman Gal
What’s with the obsession with that guy? He cute or sump’n?
July 9th, 20098:31 pm
Oh, and blog favorite Kelly Johnson is 1-1 with 2 walks and a triple tonight.
Yes N8 I would
Eric from MO
AlabamaBrave you do know Torre has lost in his last 9 postseasons? Not to mention for 8 of those he had by far the biggest payroll. People have to realize it is harder to win in the postseason than it used to be. It used to be you had a 50% chance of winning the World Series once you made the postseason. Now you have a 12.5% chance. It is easier to make the postseason but it is harder to win it once your there.
July 9th, 20098:32 pm
Wonder all you wish, nathan, nothing wrong with that. Second-guessing managers is an old game, played by all of us. It’s the sense of fan entitlement shown by some of the posts above that makes me chortle. And you know me…I can’t resist the opportunity to prick the balloon of such balderdash.
Hye, I can’t figure out why he’s playing the guy, either, LOL. So what? I don’t expect him to explain why he puts his left shoe on before the right, either.
Where is Campillo these days?
Slugger, No, I didn’t talk to any of the players at the bar. Hudson came to the bar much later because I think he went to dinner with Hanson and Medlen. McCann was in there briefly with his wife and parents. Regarding your question about preferred drinks, Moylan drank draft beer, Chipper drank something mixed with soda, Eric Wedge drank Amstel. Blanco was also there but I didn’t notice what he was drinking, and as I said earlier Garret A. was at the end of the bar by himself.
July 9th, 20098:33 pm
“Frenchie goes 32 for 50 with 6 dongs”
Francoeur might be better suited for an adult film career if this is true. No wonder he’s not so fleet a foot anymore.
Bay Area Steve
Did I read someone say five scotches were too many?
Can anybody verfiy this?
Five before when? My mind is approaching infinite-loop…
July 9th, 20098:34 pm
Eric: I am well aware of the stats. I am also aware of the fact that Torre has won 4 WS compared to Cox’s 1 and has beaten him head-to-head twice.
What’s with the obsession with that guy? He cute or sump’n? Mixxo
Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg is everything that is right in the world.
July 9th, 20098:35 pm
Yo, gotta fart
I feel better now.
DOB…regarding Schafer, have they checked out his hamate bone? I played in college and had a stress fracture in the hook of the hamate that they couldnt detect. It hurt like Hades for the longest before a specialist at Vandy finally diagnosed it. I believe Griffey had a similar injury.
July 9th, 20098:36 pm
I believe that would fall into the realm of “nuanced argument”, and would be time well-spent, LOL.
I think the entire blog should have 5 scotches every time Francoeur starts in right field or when Diaz is asked to bunt.
Mixxo is proof that the blog allows crackheads to participate. – Bobby “I’m an insane old fool” Cox
OK, 8 dingers & 10 doubles ……..then. Better?
EWWW, what’s that smell????????
July 9th, 20098:37 pm
“What’s with the obsession with that guy?”
His current OPS is 1.22. Actually, it sounds like it’s gone up some tonight from that.
July 9th, 20098:39 pm
Well…8-2 now for the Dodgers. Would be most if there weren’t 3 baserunners eliminated from bonehead plays.
I am sure vazquez will be fine and it will be nice to have him pitch that first game against the MUTS
is saying the Pirates are pushing hard to trade Sanchez
how about going after Sanchez, putting him at 2nd base, and putting Prado at first base…?
that would certainly help the lineup
Coach (Moon Pie, Anyone)

July 9th, 20098:41 pm
Livan getting shelled. Wonder if he still sells cartoon balloons in town.
July 9th, 20098:42 pm
Yes but Torre has also lost 9 in a row. So it is hard to say he is great in the postseason. You would think he could win one ofthose 9 if he was so great. Also Mike Sciocia has only won 1 WS and been to the postseason a ton, is he a failure as a manager? What about Ron Gardenhire? He has none. Sweet Lou only has one, and look at the great teams he had in Seatle, he never even made it to the WS with those teams. Even the team that won 116 and didnt lose a single series in the season. Are all of them failures?
July 9th, 20098:43 pm
Seriously, what did Bobby say about Francoeur?
Braveheart on fire, tonight.
How good was that “steals half my happiness” line?
As big a send-Francoeur-to-the-minors guy as possible, but the offense hinges on the two former Angels. They approach career numbers, Francoeur or no, and we’re in it, down the stretch.
Anders, you’re a douche-bag. Oh, excuse me, you’re not here at the moment, because…
But can he speak French ….in Russian?
Those gentlemen are still winning. BC is not.
July 9th, 20098:44 pm
Braves73 – the point is that Chipper CAN’T play every day. Another blogger was correct to question why we went multi-year big dollars for a player in obvious decline, and my guess is “face of the franchise” (don’t know why we weren’t so “franchise” conscious with Smoltz/Glavine, but Chipper was another story). With his salary and his physical decline, he won’t be traded unless he and Braves agree to it, and the Braves pick up a substantial part of his salary. Not sayin’, at all, that the man has little left, but his decline could be somewhat precipitous, especially in the field. It is unheard of for a regular infielder to bust the .900 (Mendoza, reverse) line, but CJ has approached this. This is potentially devastating for his future defensively.
Another direction, yes, absolutely, and BC’s exit (for all he’s done!) needs to be part of it. CJ should be handled with kid gloves, and not humiliated – i.e. no leaks about trades, no off the record, none of that garbage. Approach him quietly about trade to a contender, out of respect, explain to the man it’s about him, and his dignity.
The blog will bury me for this apostasy, but this isn’t an off year for CJ, just the natural decline of a hard-playing ballplayer whose bat and foot speed has slowed.
July 9th, 20098:45 pm
Hahaha. Even the Rockies’ announcers realize that Loaf is a professional hitter.
Man, what a stupid term that is.
any radio link pse> reds up 6/4
July 9th, 20098:46 pm
Did GA just run RIGHT INTO the tag? I mean, there’s not much he could’ve done… But at least try to avoid the tag!
we knocked the cover off the ball that inning, just couldn’t find a hole.
I have it on good authority that he figured out pi.
Something else to think about Eric, Cox has not won a postseason series of any kind since 2001. The others, except for Pinella, have.
July 9th, 20098:47 pm
Its Tommy time
This inning will be pretty telling for Hanson…on the Coors effect for him.
Loaf Anderson…because a slice of mediocrity is never enough.
