I bet that Jeff Franceour is kicking himself for turning down the Braves contract offer when Brian McCann signed his. There is NO WAY that Francoeur will make anything more than the Major League minimum next year. He will be non-tendered by the Braves in the off season. Then he be invited as a non-roster invite who will have to have a good Spring Training to make some team’s roster. And if he does, he’ll get the Major League minimum.
Nice gamble there Francoeur. You just cost yourself $20 mil by betting that you’ll be a great player.
Nolie, I wish it was an exaggeration to say Thorman was better in his crappy stint as a Brave than Frenchy has been the last two years combined, but unfortunately it ain’t.
Frenchy, 2008: .653 OPS. Thorman, 2007: .657 OPS. Frenchy, 2009: .613 OPS. Frenchy, last two seasons combined: .640 OPS. Thorman as a Brave: .667 OPS.
Eric in MO hit the nail on the head! The Braves may think they are shopping Frenchy, but who is gonna buy? Frenchy is dead as a Brave! Bank on it! So the idiot part of this whole deal is why is Cox playing him when Diaz is a better option? You need to score runs and Diaz is your best option for that.
I am not saying anyone will take him I am just saying this is the logic they are using. I agree with everyone about JF. But thinking from a club stand point this is what they have to do.
I havent been on this blog long but I have found that clear thinking does not always go on here. I am trying to see both sides. I would rather we go with Diaz and let the chips fall where they may with JF
I know Thorman doesn’t hit for a high average or play great defense but he has legit power and would give us what we need off the bench. Why don’t they just call him up and give Kotchman a breather every now and then. Havent heard anything on him lately and just wondering.
“I left out the part about tipping my cap to the opposing pitchers….Frenchy will come around..only way he can come around is by playing”
so are we tipping our caps to certain pitchers or all of them that he’s faced since the all star break of 2007. I cant believe all these guys are pitching him so well. Especially those BP fastballs that he cant hit, but here’s to him turning it around to something he’s never been
Vazquez strained lower abdominal muscle, flew home and got MRI that showed nothing serious. Braves hope to have him rest over break and move to back of rotation after break, thus avoiding DL stint. But they’ll know more early next week.
I really think the Braves should’ve kept Ryan Langerhans because he can carry a team with his glove, YES his glove I said. How many runs did he save when he was a Brave? Tell me that! Now they are stuck with Garret Anderson and his well below average glove. Hated seeing him go.
“Oh, man, LOL. The sheer attitude that being one of the winningest managers in the history brings. How dare that sucker not bare his soul to, to…what was your name again?”
You mean the guy with all 14 of those division titles and only 1 WS win? He is a great regular season manager but not so much in the post season. I will take guys like Torre who can manage in the post season.
“The sheer attitude that being one of the winningest managers in the history brings.”
Hmm. Nobody wanted Glavine around because he was old and past his prime? Why doesn’t/didn’t he get cut the same slack as Bobby does? After all, Glavine had more RECENT success than Bobby has.
For almost four years running, Bobby has been a mediocre manager. Or at least his teams have finished in a mediocre fashion.
While were NOT holding Bobby accountable for his decisions because he’s been a winner in the past, why not have Hank Aaron play RF? After all, he’s one of the greatest hitters of all time. He should STILL be able to do the job, right?
I’m not looking for Bobby to specifically answer MY questions. But, as the manager of a losing major league club, that keeps putting one of the (if not THE) worst hitters in all of baseball in the lineup night after night.

Cameron- nothing is going down with the braves on the trade sitaution. not gonna happen for 3 weeks if any trades were to happen. they are stuck with their payroll, and with vazquez being hurt and the team needing him, this is essentially going to be the team come september, unless the braves fall out of cotention before july 31, and then they might look at prospects. but do not look for a big trade or a big bat coming to atlanta
Well Dave,I hope you find that creative way to ask Bobby why he’s putting his desires before what’s best for the TEAM.?Why is JF starting over MD?Man it runs me hot so I can just imagine how Matt feels.

MRI and CT scan on Schafer again showed “only” a bone bruise in his left wrist. He’s gonna get a second opinion on Monday, after Braves hand specialist examined him and the pictures.
AlabamaBrave you do know Torre has lost in his last 9 postseasons? Not to mention for 8 of those he had by far the biggest payroll. People have to realize it is harder to win in the postseason than it used to be. It used to be you had a 50% chance of winning the World Series once you made the postseason. Now you have a 12.5% chance. It is easier to make the postseason but it is harder to win it once your there.
Wonder all you wish, nathan, nothing wrong with that. Second-guessing managers is an old game, played by all of us. It’s the sense of fan entitlement shown by some of the posts above that makes me chortle. And you know me…I can’t resist the opportunity to prick the balloon of such balderdash.
Hye, I can’t figure out why he’s playing the guy, either, LOL. So what? I don’t expect him to explain why he puts his left shoe on before the right, either.
Slugger, No, I didn’t talk to any of the players at the bar. Hudson came to the bar much later because I think he went to dinner with Hanson and Medlen. McCann was in there briefly with his wife and parents. Regarding your question about preferred drinks, Moylan drank draft beer, Chipper drank something mixed with soda, Eric Wedge drank Amstel. Blanco was also there but I didn’t notice what he was drinking, and as I said earlier Garret A. was at the end of the bar by himself.
DOB…regarding Schafer, have they checked out his hamate bone? I played in college and had a stress fracture in the hook of the hamate that they couldnt detect. It hurt like Hades for the longest before a specialist at Vandy finally diagnosed it. I believe Griffey had a similar injury.
Yes but Torre has also lost 9 in a row. So it is hard to say he is great in the postseason. You would think he could win one ofthose 9 if he was so great. Also Mike Sciocia has only won 1 WS and been to the postseason a ton, is he a failure as a manager? What about Ron Gardenhire? He has none. Sweet Lou only has one, and look at the great teams he had in Seatle, he never even made it to the WS with those teams. Even the team that won 116 and didnt lose a single series in the season. Are all of them failures?
How good was that “steals half my happiness” line?
As big a send-Francoeur-to-the-minors guy as possible, but the offense hinges on the two former Angels. They approach career numbers, Francoeur or no, and we’re in it, down the stretch.
Anders, you’re a douche-bag. Oh, excuse me, you’re not here at the moment, because…
Braves73 – the point is that Chipper CAN’T play every day. Another blogger was correct to question why we went multi-year big dollars for a player in obvious decline, and my guess is “face of the franchise” (don’t know why we weren’t so “franchise” conscious with Smoltz/Glavine, but Chipper was another story). With his salary and his physical decline, he won’t be traded unless he and Braves agree to it, and the Braves pick up a substantial part of his salary. Not sayin’, at all, that the man has little left, but his decline could be somewhat precipitous, especially in the field. It is unheard of for a regular infielder to bust the .900 (Mendoza, reverse) line, but CJ has approached this. This is potentially devastating for his future defensively.
Another direction, yes, absolutely, and BC’s exit (for all he’s done!) needs to be part of it. CJ should be handled with kid gloves, and not humiliated – i.e. no leaks about trades, no off the record, none of that garbage. Approach him quietly about trade to a contender, out of respect, explain to the man it’s about him, and his dignity.
The blog will bury me for this apostasy, but this isn’t an off year for CJ, just the natural decline of a hard-playing ballplayer whose bat and foot speed has slowed.

Braveheart on fire, tonight.

Did GA just run RIGHT INTO the tag? I mean, there’s not much he could’ve done… But at least try to avoid the tag!

Something else to think about Eric, Cox has not won a postseason series of any kind since 2001. The others, except for Pinella, have.
