Bobby’s Cox ~ “We have starting pitching depth: Lowe, Vazquez, Hudson, Hanson, KK, Hanson, Medlen. That’s 7 guys. We can trade 1 and still have 6.”

Um…your math is a little off. On the bright side, your duplication skills are on. :)

This is not a facetious question–I have really mellowed since my highly successful prostate surgery–are the Braves universally judged to have a Top 3 Minor League System or are you guys just highly optimistic. I really don’t know. I do know the Marlins pitching in the minors isn’t developing as anticipated but position players appear to have huge upside.

The Braves should try to rape the Tigers again. I grew up following the Tigers and if there is a more overrated baseball man than Dombo I want to know his name. The millions!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thrown at Willis and Robertson for no good reason is really strange and that trade last year should have got his A$$ fired.

Lou – the Braves’ system is highly regarded outside of the fanbase. I believe it was top 5 at the beginning of the year. It’s likely dropped a bit after the McLouth trade, but still pretty impressive considering the Teixeira deal.

Surely you know better, Lou. Baseball Prospectus has the Braves at 8, but I believe some other ranking had them in the top 5.

seems that Atlanta bullpen has anywhere from 10-15+ blown saves this season. Starting pitching decent, mostly giving 3 runs or less, hitting ok – mostly scoring 3 runs or more per game. Lowe, Vazquez, Jurgens, and now Hanson should have 2-3 more wins each. Painful to watch the 7,8,9 inning leads inevitably disappear.

Why would Cox’s think Escobar is faking an injury after he got and RBI triple. Why come out of the game at that point? It makes no sense. If Cox’s is going to question Escobar’s heart then at least have it make sense!

If I was the Marlins I would release Hermida–OUTRIGHT!!!!!!! He is a BUST and must just recognize it.

Will not trade Ross for a relief pitcher. Hanley is the ONLY consistent threat on a day to day basis. Losing Ross is taking too much out of a lineup that already struggles to score runs.

Go peddle Gonzalez to the Tigers. Dombo will probably give you Cabrera and Edwin Jackson. Blanking Idiot!!

IF you watched Florida on a day to day basis you would know that Gonzo is not worth Ross who hits in the clutch, pretty good pop, good strike zone control, good CF and very good RF–They give this up for what has morphed into a Freak Show. If the moron quit rocking back and forth it might just work out for him.

i dont know bout OFFICIALLY putting gonzo on trading block but think of this: “the scowl” and gonzo are both free agents, who are you going to re-sign?? right now it seems like soriano (more consistent) so it is possible to trade him to get a bat since we have the pitching depth (not so much in the bullpen though) and will only resign one of our two co-closers

It’s funny what losing does to people. Nobody was complaining about Gonzo’s rocking before his last couple of bad outings but now it’s stupid and breaks his concentration. Ya’ll were calling him the “Rocking Cobra” for Christ Sakes! I don’t know about some of you but I beleive he’s still the closer next year because at Soriano’s rate, he’s gonna be too far out of Atl. price range.

Lou Vales, please. You act like Cody Ross is so special. Just because he hits some HR’s doesn’t make him worth so much more than Gonzo. Plays excellent defense? Since when? He’s average out there and I’d like to see him patrol our OF but don’t make him out to be more than what he is.

To the poster that several pages back asked why Gonzo’s rocking wasn’t in violation of the rules about ‘not deceiving the batter’…actually the rule is that you can’t do anything that in the opinion of the ump is attempting to deceive the ‘runner’. Without any runners on the pitcher can do anything he wants so long as his foot stays in contact with the rubber – and even that gets missed some. He can quick-pitch, he can multiple pump, he can even stop his windup altogether, and it won’t matter.

But I do agree that pumping crap isn’t doing anything but arousing the opposing fans and that probably does more to distract Gonzo than the hitter. Pitch from the stretch and junk that junky windup.

PWH–in regard to your Francoeur comment, I agree that there has to be something going on “behind the scenes,” some reasoning that we’re not aware of for keeping him in the lineup. Whether it’s good or not is certainly debatable, but I for one would love to hear why exactly they’re keeping him in there. Heck, you know he sucks when you, me, Coach, and pretty much the rest of the blog agree. We haven’t seen this much agreement on one subject since…ever.

TnBrian, I hope I didn’t convey the impression that I thought Ross was a very good player. I think he is a GOOD player who is one of only 4 guys you can count on–Ramirez, Cantu, Baker–to deliver in the clutch. You can’t give up that much of your offense for a closer who may or may not implode at any time. Unless you watch the Marlins daily you have no idea the number of black holes they have in the lineup–Bonafacio, Uggla, Hermida. Counting the pitcher’s spot 44% of the lineup stinks.

Lou Vales

July 10th, 2009
6:01 pm

The Marlins are biding their time until Stanton is in right, Coghlin at 2b, Morrison in left, Sanchez at 3B, Maybin in CF. Hermida will be out of the league in 4 years, Uggla will be on a devastating downturn and Ross will have fetched someone, but they ain’t trading him for a guy who won’t have many games to save if they never have the lead.

While Ryan Church isnt a superstar, he is a pretty good player who has a strong arm to play right field. What I dont understand is why in the world did the Mets trade for Francoeur? If Francoeur thinks that the bloggers in Atlanta was hard on him………….just imagine how the New York bloggers are going to be on him? Francoeur playing for the Mets actually helps the Braves.

I guess that there is a sucker out there if you look hard enough. Not only do the Braves dump Francoeur, we pick up a decent outfielder. I do not think that the Braves could have done any better.

Hopefully the Mets will offer Francoeur salary arbitration at the end of the season so the $5-6 mil that he will surely get will tie up their payroll.
