The Braves have the money, I would rather have had Hanson up all year then pitching Kenshin Kawakami. He will be an expensive long man when Huddy comes back. The Braves will rue the day they signed KK before its over. Plus you notice how quick they brought up the top prospects to AA I think they will be up in September if they do well.

I was just thinking about how I use to watch a lot of Cub games on WGN when I was younger, during summer break from school. This was back when all the games were day games. I remembered seeing the first night game at Wrigley (on tv, that is) and I couldn’t remember how long ago that was, 8/8/88. Almost 21 years ago. That makes me feel real old!

I was going to say the same thing about Minor, THWG. I’ve seen him play several times in person and I was impressed, but never really dazzled. It’s hard to be too blown away by an SEC pitcher’s performance considering the offensive competition. The metal bats a lot of the guys use aren’t even the “typical” metal bats. They use these composite bats that sound like rockets blasting off. Another thing…while Minor was never overly-impressive, he did seem to get out of trouble spots pretty well–I don’t know how much that’s worth to you, though.

Kenshin will be a better pitcher next year. This is a learning season for him. He gets to get used to pitching every 5 days instead of six and learns the hitters. Kawakami has been ok.

Heath (Cleveland)

Paul -

Jeff rarely “lets” the pitcher throw him a “mistake” pitch. He often is swinging and making contact with the pitches the pitcher “wants” him to make contact with. His lack of patience is his worse quality by far. Some of the better hitters learn not only patience, but learn to just foul off those pitches right at or just off the outside corner until a better pitch is delivered. Jeff does not do this either.

Chris, agree that Kawakami was a bad signing, but they had to figure Frenchy and KJ wouldn’t be this bad, so more pithching, the better. Hasn’t turned out that way. Imagine how useful that $7M would be right now?

Disagree with your earlier post saying that Wren should be fired. So many things he’s done right, aside from the Kawa. signing, that nobody can complain about the job he’s done as the GM so far. You’re dead wrong there.

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9777314/Jays‘-Halladay-all-but-gone-in-Toronto

“Braves. Big-time longshot. The Braves’ strength is starting pitching, and they blew out their farm system in trades for first baseman Mark Teixeira, right-hander Javier Vazquez and outfielder Nate McLouth. Plenty of young talent remains, and the Jays surely would perk up if the Braves were willing to move right-hander Tommy Hanson or outfielder Jason Heyward. Not likely.”

No sh!t, Ken.

If Wren trades either Heyward or Hanson for Halladay, he should be severely beaten. I suspect he won’t.

Heath (Cleveland)………….I agree with you on Francoeur. What amazes me is that Jeff Francoeur could be a teammate of Chipper Jones for 4 years now. None of Chipper’s patience or approach to hitting has rubbed off on Francoeur. Brian McCann has shown growth at the plate. Many times you’ll see McCann work the count and wait for a pitch to drive. Francoeur is just itching to hit the ball. Pitchers know this. So they rarely give him anything to hit.

Meanwhile, Brad Lidge is not the same pitcher this year. Both him and Ryan Madsen (their 8th inning set-up man) have both struggled this year. With their starting pitching in the shape it is, I see the bullpen getting worse as the season weans on. One trade will not help these guys.

And the Mets, lol, they are just in terrible shape with the injuries. Delgado is not expected back. Neither is J.J. Putz. Both Beltran and Reyes are nowhere near ready to come back. Oliver Perez is a $36 mil bust. It’s David Wright and a bunch of Triple A players.
