Ya think Houston fans were bitching about Biggio (or even say Bagwell?) still being on the team up til he retired? I would put Chipper is the same class….except for the fact that Biggio didn’t have as much of an injury bug as Chipper seems to have and has had over the last few years.

I’m so damn sick of the *Let’s get rid of Chipper* type comments.

And I know, I know…Murph, Knucksie(sp), Nique (Hawks) among others were let go toward the end of their careers……and it happens…but I for one, think Chip deserves to be here until his contract runs out and be a Brave for life.

Not many of his caliber will we ever see again…that has played for one team his entire career..and growing up a Royals fan and George Brett was my boy….I would consider Chip a *George Brett*-type. George played all out like Chipper does.

I have no problem with giving Chipper a rest today. He has not hit historically well at Wrigley Field plus he could use the rest. I’d rather have him rested for the 4 games at Coors Field, where he has hit much better over the course of his career.

My only problem is with Francoeur playing. Diaz needs to be in there. Do any of you think that Francoeur will get a hit tonight against Zambrano?

Some very interesting stats that many will find surprising. There are 11 braves that have received over 100 at bats this year. This is how they rank in OPS against righties. As I said some of these numbers are kind of shocking.

1. McCann 987
2. Escobar 873
3. Jones 817
4. Diaz 787
5. McLouth 784
6. Kotchman 757
7. Anderson 701
8. Prado 690
9. Shaefer 591
10 Francouer 575
11. Johnson 530

Matt Diaz has had 77 ABs against RH and 74 against LH. He is fourth on the team in OPS against RH pitching. He also has the highest OPS against RHs in the entire outfield over LH hitters McLouth and Anderson.

If you want one determining reason why the Braves are 5 games back in a week division coming into the All Star break this is it. Bobby has given Kelly and Jeff a total of 469 ABs against RHs with a combined OPS 555. Jeff has been given 203 at bats against RHs with his 575 OPS.

Now tell me leadership and decision making is not the biggest problem with this team. How can anyone defend that.

Hi, I’m coach smith. I don’t seem to grasp the concept of capitalization. Though no portion of my name (a proper noun) is capitalized, I frequently write posts with entire words capitalized. Seemingly for emphasis, but who knows, really? Punctuation is also something I struggle with. I go by the rule “one is never enough” and my punctuation marks always come in multiples of 6. Rather than using a period and two spaces, I prefer to hit the “return” key and create a new line of text. May not be as visually appealing as forming sentences within the confines of the grammatical and mechanical rules of the English language, but it’s easier for me! (!!!!!) I hope your eyes (and brain) don’t bleed from reading my posts! (!!!!!)

I really didn’t trade up or switch allegiances. I still sorta-follow my home state Royals. I just don’t have the interest in them as much as I did when I was growing up and when Brett was still playing….,..and it has nothing to do with the losing they’ve been accustomed to the last few years. YO Frank from KS (now living in CO) — first let’s get it correct, I never said that Dye was the only one they were looking at. Just that he was on a short list of possibles. I did say — and you can go back and look it up — that if the Braves were within 2 games at the end of the homestand they would look to pull the trigger on a deal. Well they swept the Phillies and they were 2 games out. Now do you really think that Frenchy sitting out was a just a benching?? or was it to make sure their trade bait didn’t get hurt at the last minute?? I firmly stand by what I said, they will most likely add a bat , but it has to be the right deal. They wont make another “raid the farm” deal and they wont trade a starting pitcher for a big bat unless there is some type of payroll consideration involved. I agree with Ken Rosenthal that there is not a hitter out there right now that is worthy of trading Vasquez for.

Unfortunately they slid back to 5 games out just as quick as they got to 2 games out. I haven’t spoken with my friend since last week so I am just going on my previous gut feelings.

Shouldn’t they belong to the Cleveland Indians, connecting the two of the three greatest baseball movies of all time?

Field of Dreams and For The Love of the Game the other ones beside Bull Durham?
