Perhaps if Moylan worked off some of that beer gut he could get his arm angle in the right slot.

joe……….I was making a “comparison” to Bobby’s belief in certain players to how many people believe in religion. My point was that both are examples of believing in something that does not exist.

We are lucky that Moylan has only given up the 1 run. 2 hard hit balls were for outs. If he can get this last out, then we will have at least a 2 run lead with our co-closers coming up.

This is the reason why I dont like using Moylan in the 7th inning.

yeah, i prefer when he uses bennett, acosta, bennett, logan, medlen in the 7th. well, actually, i abhor when he uses those guys in a tight game

Hopefully we can get some insurance runs.

Interesting bunt by McCann. Runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out.

I don’t know how to easily find bullpen statistics, but I’m pretty sure that Washington has the worst (by far) bullpen in the majors. Braves should be able to score a couple of late runs per game in this series.

Pirates up 7-0 bottom of the 7th against the Marlins. If we can hold on, we’ll be tied with the Mets for 3rd, 1 game behind the Marlins, 2 games behind the Phillies.

Damn, if McCann had “any” speed, that would have been a perfect hit to get a base hit.

I have Matt Diaz as my DH on my ESPN fantasy baseball team today. Bases loaded, 1 out. Come on DIaz. Give us some insurance runs and help me with some much needed points for my fantasy baseball team as well.

July 3rd, 2009

bigmacattack:

You assume that Diaz was going to make an out, just like Cox assumed Escober was going to make an out earlier? Why? No telling what Diaz was going to do.

As for Francouer, there is a guy named Anderson on the bench. Guess he would have hit into a DP too.

Bunting is almost never a good idea, especially with quality hitters like Escobar or Diaz at the plate. That matters not a whit to our beloved Chance the Manager, who just refers to his dog-eared copy of the Baseball Book and does exactly what managers 50 years ago would do.

Seems like Cox is in love with the bunt tonight. As long as the Braves keep getting multiple hits after a sacrifice, Cox will probably keep doing it, which in the long run will result in more Ls than Ws.

Anybody remember who well Cox’s bunting strategy worked in the 18-inning loss to the Astros in the ‘05 playoffs?

Looks like the Marvins stay in first place is going to be short-lived.

Pirates lead Marvins 7-0 in the 7th.

Philthies lead the Mutts 7-2 in the 8th.

Braves can move into third with a victory and a Mutts loss.

Braveheart, really? You of all people? You’ve been around long enough.

Would YOU ever type that our winning streak is at 5 games, before the home team had a chance to hit in the 7th inning of a back and forth game?

Yunel is more of a 2 or a 6 hitter. Need more power out of 5, but he’ll do for now. I think batting sixth though he could be like how Francouer was in 2007: .290/.300, 40 doubles, 15 to 20 homers, 100 RBIs, plus extend rallies by drawing walks.

McFann, you can’t possibly think 10 at bats is at all a meaningful sample size. All the odds with bunting are clear–almost always a bad idea unless the pitcher is doing it (or it is Francoeur). It worked out well here, but statistically it’s a bad move-especially with Mac starting to rake again.
