Nice play Chip, Peter Moylan, I guess this is one of those bad days for him.
The Bird and Indian
n8: Dang chill out bro?!
July 3rd, 20099:11 pm
well thank you to Charlie Morton. We’ll take whatever we can get from him now
Nice play Diaz, that could have been a gapper.
These pesky Nationals won’t go away.
Perhaps if Moylan worked off some of that beer gut he could get his arm angle in the right slot.
July 3rd, 20099:12 pm
joe……….I was making a “comparison” to Bobby’s belief in certain players to how many people believe in religion. My point was that both are examples of believing in something that does not exist.
We are lucky that Moylan has only given up the 1 run. 2 hard hit balls were for outs. If he can get this last out, then we will have at least a 2 run lead with our co-closers coming up.
Won’t shut down every offense every single night….just be happy we are scoring more than the opposition.
This is the reason why I dont like using Moylan in the 7th inning.
yeah, i prefer when he uses bennett, acosta, bennett, logan, medlen in the 7th. well, actually, i abhor when he uses those guys in a tight game
July 3rd, 20099:13 pm
Damage control, Nice. Now we got the middle of the lineup.
Phils all over the mets 7-2
Why did that 9:06 not suprise me?
Go somewhere else with your atheist crap.
Considering I was having flashbacks of that 15 inning Pirates game where Moylan gave up that 4 run lead in the 7th inning…………..I’m THANKFUL that the Nationals only scored 1 run. Get his A$$ out of there NOW, lol.
Hopefully we can get some insurance runs.
could have been worse (had it been another team he might not have been so lucky), but gives up 1.
Come on offense, get that run back and maybe 2 more.
lets get some insurance
July 3rd, 20099:14 pm
Paul Lentz, no need to explain your post, I understood your post perfectly the first time. Thanks tho. You cannot say with certainty that “God” exists or doesn’t exist, so bad example and better left unopened on a baseball blog. All I’m sayin’
July 3rd, 20099:15 pm
man why does it seem like all they have are lefties
That Otis Nixon catch back in 1992 against the Pirates is still amazing to see. I remember ESPN doing a special on plays of the year in all sports that year. That catch was voted the #1 play of the year.
Day-um. I missed the new guy’s homer? They better repeat this game tonight on FSN.
Anyone think McCann pulled past Molina???????
I guess that Brooks Conrad has an OPS of 4.00. Might be hard to maintain.
Chris from the Rock
I’m sorry, but McLouth shouldn’t be hitting leadoff. He’s got #5 hitter numbers with speed. Braves need a high OBP guy with 30+ SB potential in the leadoff spot.
July 3rd, 20099:16 pm
MVP! MVP! MVP!
Prado a hitting machine
Prado, continuing to rake.
There We Go Martin…!
oh man.. Prado you are killing em!
Doesn’t get old…
Holy crap Martin doesn’t let up. I Love It.
If the Braves beat the Nats by 3 or more runs tonight…they’ll move into the top 10 in scoring in the NL. They are already on the rise in average.
Steve from OH
Jesus, Marteeen, play like you want the job already…
July 3rd, 20099:17 pm
Chris from the rock
blanco is the only one that comes to mind
Prado is a D \/ D
I guess that Kelly will be on the DL for at least as Greg Norton is on the DL. How long has Norton been on his “rehab” assignment?
Prado just continues to rake them.
Prado said he was feeling better at the plate after that 1st Philly game. Keep it up kid. Good to see him still going the other way as well as pulling the ball.
Chris from the Rock- we need one of those guys on the team first. I’m sure if Wren could acquire one, he’d be leading off.
Braves need a high OBP guy with 30+ SB potential in the leadoff spot.
Because we’re just oozing with those players
July 3rd, 20099:18 pm
Make Brooks Conrad’s OPS 5.00.
I’m chilled just fine. And the A-hole remark was meant to be funny, not an insult.
I just can’t believe after all this team has been through that anybody would consider ANY braves game in the bag until the last out is recorded.
McCann show us why you are an ALLSTAR
Rob from SC (Please don't trade Escobar)
July 3rd, 20099:19 pm
Any news on why Schafer was pulled in the 5th inning.
three run homer, Condrad!
Nice start for the lad.
McCann with the bunt!
cleanup hitter getting the job done
Nice But! B-Macc!!!
McCann bunting? Seriously?
July 3rd, 20099:20 pm
Loading bases to pitch to Diaz.
Team ball tonight. I like it.
MARTEEN, MARTEEN, THE HITTIN MACHINE
Some special award must be given to Prado. “The overcoming Bobby Cox’s idiotisy award.”
WHOO HOO, FIVE IN ROW!!!
Where would we be withut Prado’s recent play?
Wow. not sure at all about that. You don’t bunt with Brian McCann. The odds are pretty clear that it’s a bad move.
Mr Baseball-You are one miserable human…
Sac Bunt by the clean-up guy…damn. Diaz will get a chance to blow this open.
Yunel is a number 5 hitter
Interesting bunt by McCann. Runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out.
I don’t know how to easily find bullpen statistics, but I’m pretty sure that Washington has the worst (by far) bullpen in the majors. Braves should be able to score a couple of late runs per game in this series.
Lets go Matty!
July 3rd, 20099:21 pm
im going to assume you mean nice “bunt”…
Chop It Up All-Star
I don’t know what happened in that club house, but I am loving the way this team is playing right now!!
Do the Braves’ red caps look odd to anyone else?
Pirates up 7-0 bottom of the 7th against the Marlins. If we can hold on, we’ll be tied with the Mets for 3rd, 1 game behind the Marlins, 2 games behind the Phillies.
Damn, if McCann had “any” speed, that would have been a perfect hit to get a base hit.
I have Matt Diaz as my DH on my ESPN fantasy baseball team today. Bases loaded, 1 out. Come on DIaz. Give us some insurance runs and help me with some much needed points for my fantasy baseball team as well.
That’s the guy! Hey, he just laid down a good bunt!
id rather walk DIaz let braves get a run and pitch to Francouer
im loving the small ball and moving runners over…where has this been all year
Kris in NC
July 3rd, 20099:22 pm
The last time they walked someone intentionally, it backed fired. Let’s hope it happens again.
What has gotten into this team? That is the Million dollar question. Anyone have the million dollar answer????
With McCann batting, it was lefty on lefty…I actually like the move there by Bobby.
If Wren trades Escobar, I’ll be pretty damn annoyed.
Wonder how he liked THAT bunt……as well.
You assume that Diaz was going to make an out, just like Cox assumed Escober was going to make an out earlier? Why? No telling what Diaz was going to do.
As for Francouer, there is a guy named Anderson on the bench. Guess he would have hit into a DP too.
Bunting is almost never a good idea, especially with quality hitters like Escobar or Diaz at the plate. That matters not a whit to our beloved Chance the Manager, who just refers to his dog-eared copy of the Baseball Book and does exactly what managers 50 years ago would do.
Seems like Cox is in love with the bunt tonight. As long as the Braves keep getting multiple hits after a sacrifice, Cox will probably keep doing it, which in the long run will result in more Ls than Ws.
Anybody remember who well Cox’s bunting strategy worked in the 18-inning loss to the Astros in the ‘05 playoffs?
July 3rd, 20099:23 pm
Looks like the Marvins stay in first place is going to be short-lived.
Pirates lead Marvins 7-0 in the 7th.
Philthies lead the Mutts 7-2 in the 8th.
Braves can move into third with a victory and a Mutts loss.
Let me just say this–he’s 1-10 with runners on 1st and 2nd this year, and he’s been slumping. Not such a bad idea.
He could have…and thank you for spelling his name with 2 c’s!
Assuming the Braves are able to hold on and win tonight, it’s looking like the NL East standings will be as follows:
New York -2
sweet, 3rd place!
McCann is a wnner, he does anything that will help the team, but francoueer always has to kill the team
those red caps are horrible
“Why did that 9:06 not suprise me?” CB
Uh… which one? There is 6 posts at 9:06.
Braveheart, really? You of all people? You’ve been around long enough.
Would YOU ever type that our winning streak is at 5 games, before the home team had a chance to hit in the 7th inning of a back and forth game?
If that’s pessimism, I guess I’m guilty. Assuming victory is not optimism, its stupidity. (no offense Bravesman)
July 3rd, 20099:24 pm
Yeah That’s what I meant…
I gotta stop blogging and Facebook Chatting simultaneously…
Add to that about 8 beers…
If Matty doesn’t GIDP, you HAVE to PH GA for Frenchy, don’t you??
Yunel is more of a 2 or a 6 hitter. Need more power out of 5, but he’ll do for now. I think batting sixth though he could be like how Francouer was in 2007: .290/.300, 40 doubles, 15 to 20 homers, 100 RBIs, plus extend rallies by drawing walks.
GA on deck
July 3rd, 20099:25 pm
ACTA banking on Francine batting
Bases loaded walk!
LOAF is up to bat!
July 3rd, 20099:26 pm
We’re winning in spite of Frwnhcy
McFann, you can’t possibly think 10 at bats is at all a meaningful sample size. All the odds with bunting are clear–almost always a bad idea unless the pitcher is doing it (or it is Francoeur). It worked out well here, but statistically it’s a bad move-especially with Mac starting to rake again.
Come On Loaf, Do It Again For Me Baby!!!
Francoeur getting pinch hit for again?
Julian “I’m angling to pitch for every major league team before I retire” Tavarez just walks in Matty D.
WOW go Diaz. I bet Francine grounds into a 6-4-3 here.
are the Braves gonna go double digits again?
Diaz is another one who has been hot lately. Didn’t I just say, intentionally walking someone would back fire again.
Come GA, let’s see some more magic from ya.
Nice going Diaz.
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Garrett is pinch hitting for Francoeur. 2 nights in a row. I cant believe it. You know that Bobby had to really fight the urge to keep Francoeur in the game.
With Anderson PH’ing for Frenchy late in games the last two nights, this makes me think he’s on his way out…I hope…hope…hope…
yesssssssss PH for francoeur
July 3rd, 20099:27 pm
Are y’all noticing how much life there is in the Braves’ dugout the last few days? Amazing what a few Ws will do.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
