I’m a big fan of Hoover’s as well. My three breakout prospects in the spring were Hoover, Thompson and Milligan. Dunno about Thompson, but Hoover sure looks good so far…
guess Bobby wasn’t kidding when he told me before the game the fans would like Brooks Conrad….What a gamer he is. ….there you have his first major league home run.
Why would a manager have a .300+ hitter bunt with a man on first with the worst offensive player on the team on deck? Because the Book for Managerial Dummies tells him to.
Bobby Cox is absolutely incapable of making an intelligent decision when he has to juggle more than one thought in his dense head. He took the bat out of Escobar’s hands early in the game, and that decision quite likely cost the Braves a run or 2.
His insistence of having his better hitters bunt with lesser hitters behind them makes no sense, but in Bobby Cox’s Plesantville universe, it makes all the sense in the world.
Once again, one of his players does something to overcome the manager’s cluelessness. Much better to be lucky than smart. Much better.
I’m sure that was Cox’s plan all along. Create an open base for Kotchman & have them pitch around him so Conrad could jack one out. Genius.
By the way, didnt I say that we are just going to have to score at least 8 runs tonight? 3 run lead, 3 innings to go. Looks like Bobby gets to use his Moylan, Gonzalez/Soriano combo tonight.
What a BIG HIT. Dude has been in Triple A all year and comes up and TURNS on a fastball. We’d be up by 5 or 6 runs if Francoeur could do that.
Roman GalI knew you’d come around to Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg…you left out that he’s got a homerun, though! Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll catch on eventually!
Well, yeah, ya know, I figured it was about time I gave it a rest with uh…what’s his name?
Sorry about missing the homer–yeah, you just gotta keep in mind I’m new to this…
The only thing I don’t like about Martin Prado is that he looks too much like Francoeur with that big cheesin’ smile he has on the video board at The Ted.
Charlie Morton is helping us tonight. He has a 1 hitter through 6 innings. Pirates up 4-0 over the Marlins.
Looks like Francoeur is trying to stay in the good graces of Bobby. He went into the bullpen to get that home run ball that Conrad hit. Talk about brown nosing. Bobby just cant let go of his false belief that Jeff Francoeur will be a good hitter. Now I understand why people believe in religion. People need to believe in something that doesnt exist (Neither God nor the ability of Francoeur to DRIVE the ball exist).
After Hearing Phils Collins “In Ther Air Tonight” I gotta bump that Shyt…That song is in my head, BTW That song is so good they had to remix/cover it 3 times….
Man you just gotta love that. I was also very happy to see all the spirit from the players in the dugout lately. Things are starting to look a LOT better. Another 2 hit night so far from Prado. This guy is looking so solid. He is just spraying hits EVERYWHERE!
mr baseball: Why would a manager have a .300+ hitter bunt with a man on first with the worst offensive player on the team on deck?
Since we’re playing “here’s what might have happened” i’ll play along.
Escobar walks, Diaz is allowed to hit and flys out to the outfield somewhere, Jeff comes up and promptly hits into a double play on the 2nd or 3rd pitch.
“Brooks is the 100th player in history to homer in his 1st AB”
As a couple of other folks have pointed out, this wasn’t his first career at bat. He had a cup of coffee with Oakland last year. I think that was his 20th at bat.
“i thought that moylan,Gonzo,Soriano was a lock to win”,
WTF said that? Certainly not me. Our backend of the bullpen is strong as hell. But since there is two on and nobody out, I’m gonna go with the fact that you already jinxed em’.
This is the reason why I dont like using Moylan in the 7th inning. He is too inconsistent. He has come into a number of games with a 3 or 4 run lead and simply given them up. Yet, Bobby “believes” in him. Just like he believes in Francoeur, Jeff Bennent, and Kelly Johnson. We are lucky to be only 2 games out, considering the players Bobby believes in simply SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
