The hits will come to a screeching halt when Francoeur comes up.
The offense is picking it up. Escobar DROVE a hanging 3-1 pitch. I have a feel that Diaz will be walked and Francoeur is going to hit into a double play.
Wow i mean i have a bad feeling when Failcour steps to the plate
That man Escobar hitting well over 400 with RISP.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,No trade there !!!!!!!!!!!!
July 3rd, 20098:02 pm
two big runs here
rjb in atl
great acting job by Esco–and hitting as well. Must mean we should consider trading him.
Man, this lineup really is sooo much better with Esco batting 5th and Prado in the 2 hole!
well here is the good news: No matter how bad KK does tonight, the Nats have one of the worst ‘pens in baseball and the braves offense is working well for some reason the past few days.
Wayne in Utah
Way to go Yunel. Time to trade him for Kemp! Sell high.
Well now more runs now we really needed Diaz to pull through there
July 3rd, 20098:03 pm
Come on Jeff. Please buddy. If he continues to be awful in this series, they’ve got to do something.
Here come Francis !!!!
Production + Price = Priceless for Braves
Hmm, Matty D is proving why he should be platooned against righties.
Diaz was 8 for his last 10. He isnt going to deliver the big hit every time. It would be nice if Francouer could deliver “once in a while”.
Man, he looks totally clueless up there 0-2 count already.
Coach (2010 or Bust)
And Cox wanted to trade Escobar before the season even started. HHAAAAAHA HAHHHAA! What a sick joke!
Another impressive at bat.
July 3rd, 20098:04 pm
well so far he has a groundout, a popout and a strikeout. Just a foulout away from the cycle
How much longer, Bobby? How much?
I’ve been as patient as anyone with Francoeur, but he has to be sent back to the minors. The majors are not a place to work things out for a year and a half. It’s gotta end. Now that a lefty is out of the game, move Matty to right and GA to left. I hate to say it, because it’s going to cost us runs on the defensive side of the ledger, but this has got to stop.
Francine does it again. Time for Booby Cox to pinch hit for him next time. I am ill from his play. I need a TYLENOL
Hmm, Jeffy F is proving why he should be demoted against MLB pitching.
Phils are pounding the Mutts…7-0
%$%#%%$@#%$# Get that piece of crap out of a Braves uniform. He is a automatic out. He has caused this team probably 20 runs this year with his rally killing ability. BOBBY MOVE DIAZ TO RIGHT AND GET ANDERSON IN LEFT.
July 3rd, 20098:05 pm
JEFF SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow and we still let him hit. 1st pitch right down the middle looks at it???????? next on at shoulders swings next one at the eyes and swings WTF??????
Eagles up a touchdown on the Giants.
WAY TO GO JEFFY!! MAKE DADDY COX PROUD!
Can we trade the nationals pitching staff to everyone we play from here on out?
If I were the team, I would get everyone together and hold Francoeur down and tattoo a big freakin “L” on his lifeless forehead. LOSER!!!!!!!!
francoeur fails again..ughh..can we please get a pinch hitter next AB?
Still don’t see why GA isn’t playing LF and Diaz in RF. Perhaps FW will just non-tender Frenchy and BC won’t have a choice but to play Diaz.
High fastballs, why do they throw some of them anything else.
Rob in Mobile
Ahhh, Frenchy………I read Jayson Stark’s blog and the Braves are literally trying to give the guy away and no one wants him. So I’m afraid unless the Braves decide he needs a vacation in Myrtle Beach or Rome (or Gwinnett), we’re stuck with him.
Coach, if you are around, we do agree on one thing…Jeff Francouer shouldn’t be in this lineup…I don’t care where he is as long as it isn’t in our starting lineup!!
It’s not even funny anymore. It’s just not funny. Can Jeff do at least one productive thing a week? Just one sac fly, or bunt, or non-strike out during an important at bat? Bobby – are you completely out of your mind? Can you not see what a cancer your home boy is?
Steve from OH

the presidents race to a michael jackson song and they all four stopped at different points to dance…..thomas jefferson won and did a celebratory moonwalk….too funny
Let’s remember we are doing all this hitting (Nats and Phillies) against the worst pitching staff’s in the league.
Chop It Up All-Star
July 3rd, 20098:07 pm
How in the world is Jeff batting higher than Kotchman in the order?
“Phils are pounding the Mutts…7-0″
Better them than us. That offense won’t stay down for long.
Need a 1-2-3 inning, hell as long as its scoreless.
July 3rd, 20098:08 pm
It would have been nice to see Garrett hitting in that situation. Instead, Francouer swings at a ball in his eyes for strike 3.
Meanwhile, Francoeur’s average dips to .246. For the season, Francoeur has 5 homers, 33 RBIs and 12 walks in 291 at-bats. In his last 890 at-bats, Francoeur is hitting .242 with 16 homers, 104 RBIs and 51 walks. PATHETIC.
Jeff should have picked football.
I am convinced that if “Coach” wants Francoeur out of the lineup, there must be some good, positive reason to leave him in!
July 3rd, 20098:09 pm
PWH- It says the Reds signed Valor for “high six figures”… I don’t see why the Braves can’t fork that over. Do you know if the Braves have an international signing budget? I know some other teams do, but I’m not sure if it’s commonplace.
Here’s hoping Frenchy will be the next benched Brave!!
I hope Frank Wren signs Bobby to a 5 year extension!
Nate makes it up!
July 3rd, 20098:10 pm
Atta way Nate! We need to keep Dunn limited to situations with no base-runners, so this is a mandatory out.
Ok, Nate. Just redeemed yourself from the last play.
July 3rd, 20098:11 pm
THWG–they do. That’s how they got Julio Teheran, Escobar (I believe), and last year they signed Christian Bethancourt. There’s more that I’m forgetting. They do make some int’l signings.
It isn’t like the Braves, or Cox, is unaware of the problem. They are by all accounts desperately trying to move him. But to even have a prayer of trading him you can’t bench him. I think it’s past time to accept the fact, though, that a trade ain’t happening. He needs to be in Gwinnett.
The only bad part about sweeping Philly is that the Mutts got to hang around and enjoy our good work in closing the gap.
I hope the Braves send Jeff to the Minors and keep Blanco in Center and move McLouth to RF. Offense couln’t be any worse
“How in the world is Jeff batting higher than Kotchman in the order?”
Only reason I can come up with is that Casey’s lack of speed has really pissed Cox off so he made sure he would not be on base to slow anyone down. Only reason I can come up with or because we have faced two lefties. That makes the most sense.
Mitchie: There’s still time for him. Let him go off to Clemson for 4 years and play on the gridiron.
Frenchy: Your slugging % is lower than Jamey Carroll’s.
July 3rd, 20098:12 pm
I would go out on a limb and say we would have 3 more wins and be in first place right now, if Jeff Francoeur is replaced by Matt Diaz on opening day. Matty would certainly have a few more errors, and would struggle vs. righties, too, but he’d have knocked in more runs than Jeff during the 30 or so times Jeff has left people stranded this year in big situations–THAT IS NOT DEBATABLE.
Chop it up,
Because, unlike Francoeur, Kotchman isn’t an automatic out with the pitcher on deck. He can battle and run deep into counts until he finds something to hit. He works the pitcher.
July 3rd, 20098:13 pm
Jake W.–because he’d get eaten alive worse than normal batting eigth. Doesn’t have the plate discipline for that (or anything, for that matter…)
Nova Scotia Steve
Kowacrappy still in there eh
Kawakami has not been at his best, but he has deserved better defensive support.
Thanks, Steve. Are there any other international players the Braves are interested in?
July 3rd, 20098:14 pm
Jake W., yeah you’re probably right on both fronts, especially with the lefty/lefty match-up.
Good quick inning for KK. It would be great if he could go six.
How is the nats BP
I’ll be ok with that.
Give nate a few at bats to get his timing back…..
Nyjer Morgan has a higher slugging % than Francoeur.
Edgar Ferriera (sp), a LHP that reportedly throws 93-94, but is raw otherwise (big surprise there, huh?).
Nate cant get around on the fastball
July 3rd, 20098:15 pm
I am just amazed at all these hits in only 4 innings 11 by ATL
If Jeff Bennett doesnt break his hand, do any of you think that we would be on a 4 game winning streak?
Peter Moylan should have opened the season in Triple A. He could have gotten his work down there, worked on his command, and then be pitching the way he has for the past week for us. Instead, Bobby just kept rolling the dice, hoping that Moylan would revert back to his old self. Moylan was coming back from injury, which is understandable. However, using him in 7th inning situations when he was inconsistent was not the thing to do.
Now it looks like Moylan is back to this old self. It shouldnt have taken him working out his kinks the first 2 months in the Majors for this to happen. Those kinks should have been worked out at Triple A.
Good 4th inning for Kawakami. One more inning, possibly 2 would be nice.
July 3rd, 20098:16 pm
I am the Marketing Rep for Under Armour. We are about to pull our endorsement on Francouer for next year for cleats, and other apparel. We are embarassed by his play and we have decided to offer a contract to his wife for we feel she can hit better than he can. Stay tuned !!!! Also he breached his contract by not wearing our underwear, instead he wears turkey underwear.
July 3rd, 20098:18 pm
KK at 78 pitches a quick inning could get him through 6
Frenchy must be wearing a thong tonight
“Jeff should have picked football”
Wondering if he has ever re-thought that choice to turn down a long term deal…
I have no penis. (STEVE OH)
that’s ok bud, coach has no brain.
July 3rd, 20098:19 pm
as bad as it sounds i’d rather see gorecki or even borchard out there than francoeur..and thats sad!
July 3rd, 20098:20 pm
nolie, what’s better is that I have both and know how to use ‘em.
Speaking of which, Teheran is pitching tonight for Danville.
Bennett breaks his hand, and the Braves go on a win streak. Are they related?
If 9/11 never happened, would the economy still be in the toilet today?
Who the heck knows? Damn Paul, they have nothing to do with each other!
Rob from SC (Please don't trade Escobar)
Borchard is not in our organization
if kawakami get threw the 5th i’ll have to give him a pat on the back for fighting back and making it a decent start.
KAWACRUMMY is pitching well. He still needs to be in the bullpen
July 3rd, 20098:21 pm
Both Teheran and Hoover are dealing tonight through 5.
RSF has a HR for Danville. When does he get the call?
No Heyward or Freeman in the lineup for Mississippi.
You gotta admit, that was funny!
Steve from OH
That makes sense. Shoulda thought of that. What I would like to see though is exactly what is said to him by Bobby and TP in regards to at bats with runners in scoring position. Then I wanna see the looks on their face when he goes up there and does what he did in 4th inning. If one of the reasons Bobby has trouble getting through to Esco is the language thing, what’s Frenchy’s excuse. He has no excuse, he understands what they say.
“Nyjer Morgan has a higher slugging % than Francoeur.”
In a way, this is Brandon Jones’ fault. If he were showing any power whatsoever, he’d be up right now. When I watched him play at AA a couple of years ago, he had tons of pop. That injury must have wiped him out.
My wife was such a Frenchy fan when he first came to ATL, now she makes me turn the channel everytime he bats.
July 3rd, 20098:22 pm
KK looks better
Wayne,don’t get logical with Paul.
“if kawakami get threw the 5th i’ll have to give him a pat on the back for fighting back and making it a decent start.”
And lamblast Cox for filling out a line-up card that has so far only produced five runs through four innings.
July 3rd, 20098:23 pm
Not sure if it has been mentioned, but Charlie M is pitching a good game so far for Pitt…no hits through 4…
rob from sc…was borchard released?
Don’t look now, but Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg has hit yet another homer tonight for Danville. He’s only 1-2 though, which leads me to belive the opposing pitcher will be a perennial all-star someday. Oh, and Teheran has struck out 5 thru six scoreless innings. An impressive 9-4 GB/FB so far.
Jo-Jo Reyes (hamstring) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday in Gwinnett and if all goes well he’ll begin a rehabilitation assignment on Tuesday with Class AAA Gwinnett.
We’ll be lucky/happy if KK gets through this inning and does not give up any more runs.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
