DON’T GET TOO EXCITED ABOUT TONIGHT’S WIN. BOBBY COX IS AN IDIOT. IF THE PHILLIES WERE STARTING A RIGHT HANDER TOMORROW, KELLY JOHNSON WOULD STILL BE THE STARTER OVER PRADO, DESPITE HIS GAME WINNING RBI & OVERALL GOOD PLAY THIS YEAR. LUCKY FOR HIM THEY FACE HAMELS.

A nice note for tomorrow against Cole Hamels. Kotchman has hit Hamels well. Hit 2 or 3 HRs off him I believe.

Damnit! Damnit! Damnit! Damn, you, Martin Prado! Why?! Why?! Why?! You know by going 4 for 5 with 4 RBI and winning the game you will find yourself on the bench tomorrow because Kelly Johonson “looked really good in bp and is due to breakout”. Couldn’t you have just gone 1 for 5 with 3 strikeouts? Damnit to hell!!!

Ooops, just realized that both Hamels and Happ are lefties. That means that Prado will get a couple more games. It also means Diaz should get a couple of starts.

Best lineup post-All Star break, from offensive/defensive standpoint:

McLouth CF
Prado 2B
Jones 3B
McCann C
Escobar SS
Canizares/Ross 1B
Infante RF
Diaz LF

That is your most hustling, best-hitting lineup possible with the current personnel.

Anderson on the bench with an occasional start in LF
Kotchman late inning defensive replacement at 1B
Francoeur late inning defensive replacement in RF
Blanco & somebody new on the bench

Kelly Johnson, Greg Norton, Diory Hernandez in Gwinnett

That’s true Tomahawkin. I just think that with him down there he can focus more on driving the ball and knocking in runners which is what this team needs. I think Omar can get on base and get the job done at the lead off spot, just who do you take out of the everyday line up?

I’d rather keep Nate-Dawg at the top of the order so that we doesn’t swing for the fences…Chipper and B-Macc Do too Much of that and that philospoy does no good when your linup blows to begin with…Hence the series against the Red Sox, Hoss and B-Macc swung for the fences all series hence the fact we scored 3 runs all series…

I blame a lot of that swinging for the fences crap on TP, He needs to address that…

I get tired of our guys poping out/ hitting into DP’s as a result of swinging for the fences, We’ve seen to much of that over the last 3 years…

I TAKE BACK THE LAST POST. PER DOB, PRADO IS THE STARTER FOR NOW. I WONDER WHO TOLD HIM TO DO THAT? KELLY HIMSELF? THIS MAKES TOO MUCH SENSE TO BE COX’S DECISION.

Bobby's Cox

June 30th, 2009
10:59 pm

We need bullpen help, not so much this year as next year. I think one of KJ or Frenchy will be traded for a bullpen arm. Besides Gonzo, Soriano, Moylan, Medlen, who else do we have? Maybe Marek? One or 2 of those closers will be gone next year, and Medlen could/should be a starter eventually. The bullpen is thinner than we think, and I think Wren makes a move for a bullpen arm this year with KJ or Frenchy, who at this point can only net a bullpen arm anyway.

I’ll use tonight’s game as leverage to reiterate this….Prado and Infante in the same lineup is a good lineup, especially when you subtract KJ and Frenchy. With our pitching, our lineup can survive without wannabe power hitters…we just need good hitters, and we have them. Play them Bobby.

With every passing day, Prado’s stats defy the sample size argument…When Chipper needs a day off, move Prado to 3rd, put Diory at 2nd, or Prado at 3rd, Infante at 2nd, Diaz in RF. I don’t buy the “utility” argument either when guys that are versatile can just be swapped around the field regardless if they start or not…

Baseball is a great game and one that is seldom played perfectly and tonight is a classic example. Great win by the Braves and one that can pick up a struggling club. I was encouraged by D. Lowe’s stuff and our defense tonight. The double play started by Chipper was a key play. Of course the night by Prado was tremendous. I think he’s earned the starting role with his grit, hustle, and great play with the glove and bat.

For the one who asked about whether Gonzo was techinically in a save situation, even though he would have to finish the 9th inning without giving up the lead to get a save, he is credited with a blown save, because he entered the game with a lead, and didn’t hold that lead
