Oh Yea, Hoss made the clutch defensive play of the game! Most People On this blog thought we had no chance on that play, including myself…
MOST OF YOU ARE IDIOTS!
DON’T GET TOO EXCITED ABOUT TONIGHT’S WIN. BOBBY COX IS AN IDIOT. IF THE PHILLIES WERE STARTING A RIGHT HANDER TOMORROW, KELLY JOHNSON WOULD STILL BE THE STARTER OVER PRADO, DESPITE HIS GAME WINNING RBI & OVERALL GOOD PLAY THIS YEAR. LUCKY FOR HIM THEY FACE HAMELS.
Was Gonzo technically in a save situation there?
A nice note for tomorrow against Cole Hamels. Kotchman has hit Hamels well. Hit 2 or 3 HRs off him I believe.
Robert(Chipper Is The Best)
June 30th, 200910:45 pm
Damnit! Damnit! Damnit! Damn, you, Martin Prado! Why?! Why?! Why?! You know by going 4 for 5 with 4 RBI and winning the game you will find yourself on the bench tomorrow because Kelly Johonson “looked really good in bp and is due to breakout”. Couldn’t you have just gone 1 for 5 with 3 strikeouts? Damnit to hell!!!
Ooops, just realized that both Hamels and Happ are lefties. That means that Prado will get a couple more games. It also means Diaz should get a couple of starts.
I understand. Its just become the cool thing to say when something goes wrong. We get at least a couple dozen posts a game like that.
If you put more into a post than that, like you do, it doesn’t bother me
MOST OF US ARE IDIOTS? I HOPE I’M NOT ONE…
June 30th, 200910:46 pm
roman, out of curiosity, how old are u? Wes
13. Give or take a few years.
Since you guys are so eager to get rid of Kelly, what makes you think that other GMs are so zealous about trading for him?
June 30th, 200910:47 pm
Nope, I want Nate-Dawg In the leadoff Role…Plus If Nate-Dawg is moved down in the order then He will run less under the Bobby-Ball Regime…
I’m not hating on Blanco but he has a game like tonight once per month…
Gonzo would only have been in a save situation if he hadn’t given up the lead and then pitched the 9th also.
June 30th, 200910:48 pm
Best lineup post-All Star break, from offensive/defensive standpoint:
That is your most hustling, best-hitting lineup possible with the current personnel.
Anderson on the bench with an occasional start in LF
Kotchman late inning defensive replacement at 1B
Francoeur late inning defensive replacement in RF
Blanco & somebody new on the bench
Kelly Johnson, Greg Norton, Diory Hernandez in Gwinnett
I haven’t checked his stats, but Hammels has been a little off, hasn’t he?
Did the Braves sign OF Geoff Jenkins? If so, what MLB team was he with?
It was on ESPN radio…..Also, could this mean the Braves are moving Francouer or Anderson??
June 30th, 200910:49 pm
Gonzo was in a “Hold” situation.
If he had held them in the eighth and then pitched the 9th – it would have been a “Save”.
That’s true Tomahawkin. I just think that with him down there he can focus more on driving the ball and knocking in runners which is what this team needs. I think Omar can get on base and get the job done at the lead off spot, just who do you take out of the everyday line up?
Martin is the man. One of these years we’re going to have him and Omar healthy for 162.
Martin and Omar: Side A and Side B.
And Gregor. Everybody better remember that I’ve been supporting him all the way. Not missing Jordan Schafer these days.
JF had 6 multihit games in june———–same amount as McCann and Chipper.
June 30th, 200910:50 pm
Remember this feeling, this win …
AND GET JJ HIS WIN TOMORROW!!!!
None of this making Hamels (4-4, 4.44 ERA) pitch like his younger days, that is not allowed.
Mets lose. Mets lose. Mets lose.
Geoff Jenkins? WTF?!!! I hope that is not true unless they signed him for the league minimum and sent his ass to Gwinett. He is not the answer.
Omar Infante is no more than an above average utility player
June 30th, 200910:51 pm
Not missing Jordan Schafer these days.
Prado won himself a starting job with that effort. Cox said at least for now, he’s the starting 2B. Said he’s hitting the ball too well not to play.
I do like that lineup you posted a lot………..KJ and JF might become some strong bench player…….LOL
June 30th, 200910:52 pm
Jenkins>Norton….I could see Norton being released
Omar is not going to be a regular. Most likely top of the order will be a variation of McLouth, Prado, Chipper, Mac, Esco and GA. Esco or GA can move to 4th and Mac can move to 5th.
June 30th, 200910:53 pm
I was gone. Do I really have to read through all the crap that was probably posted during the game, or will somebody give me permission to skip it? RG? CBR? RHR? SCOOTS? ANYBODY?
June 30th, 200910:54 pm
I shouldn’t even say this but Francouer looks like he could be coming around. But, I’m not getting my hopes up because this could be a case of “even the sun shines on a dog’s a** somedays”.
I’d rather keep Nate-Dawg at the top of the order so that we doesn’t swing for the fences…Chipper and B-Macc Do too Much of that and that philospoy does no good when your linup blows to begin with…Hence the series against the Red Sox, Hoss and B-Macc swung for the fences all series hence the fact we scored 3 runs all series…
I blame a lot of that swinging for the fences crap on TP, He needs to address that…
I get tired of our guys poping out/ hitting into DP’s as a result of swinging for the fences, We’ve seen to much of that over the last 3 years…
June 30th, 200910:55 pm
Thank you Doug.
Good evening to you sir.
Rob in Mobile
Guess Robert(CITB) can rest easy now……..
Great news from DOB regarding Prado now the starter. Miracles do happen. At last.
You go back RIGHT NOW and read every.single.post. It’s your punishment for not being here during the game…
June 30th, 200910:56 pm
WE’VE ALL SEEN IT BEFORE. A GUY WILL BE ON A HOT HITTING STREAK BUT BOBBY WILL SIT HIM FOR SOME STUPID RIGHTY-LEFTY MATCHUP. SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO LET THE BEST PLAYERS PLAY, REGARDLESS OF THE MATCHUPS. THIS IS ONE OF THE FLAWS IN HIS MANAGING PHILOSOPHY. I KNOW PRADO WILL PLAY TOMORROW, BUT I FEAR THAT BOBBY WILL SIT HIM AS SOON AS WE FACE CARRASCO (RH) ON THURSDAY.
Jeffery, I think Infante may be a little bit better than an above average utility guy. I think he could be an everyday SS or 2B in this league.
DOB, I was hoping for a post-game interview there with Martin.
Does he even speak english, just out of curiosity?
PH Yunel (who supposedly is injured) instead of KJ might be the begging of the end for KJ………….even if the pitcher was a LHP………..Yunel is not healthy………..at least thats what they say.
I won’t mind Prado or Esco hitting 2nd, Prado or Esco or GA 4th and Mac 5th. Mac seems most comfortable hitting 5th and Chipper stays 3rd in the lineup.
but the turn by Prado was great too. KJ would not have been able to do it (RODNEY)
No way man. Dontcha know what a blindingly bad defender Prado is? Why his UZI rating is 5 rounds below empty. Kid got lucky !!!
June 30th, 200910:57 pm
June 30th, 2009
LOL…skip it we won &Prado is now the starting 2b for now!
No, I can’t rest easy. If Prado goes 0 for 4 tomorrow I can guarantee KJ will be back in there on Thursday. I’m kidding….sort of. We all know how Bobby can be.
JEB – was sort of alluding to Wayne in Utah’s 10:39. Gonzo will buy you farm in hold situations it seems.
Add To That, Nate-Dawg is not a Home Run hitter in this ballpark…
We already have enough hitters in our lineup who think they can go yard at the Ted anytime they please, as we know it doesn’t work that way…
June 30th, 200910:58 pm
Prado speaks the English langue quite well.
Man……………all this excitement………..I go check and we are still in 4th place………..WTH
Rob from SC
Tampa Bay is on fire. Hopefully they catch the Red Sox and Yankees.
June 30th, 200910:59 pm
Prado’s in every day now………..which leads one to wonder if Kelly Johnson has earned a bus ride to Gwinnett.
Geoff Jenkins? Wha? Anyone heard anymore about this? He’d have to be signed to a minor league deal, right? Or is this some unfounded scuttlebutt?
nolie – you have my permission to skip it.
pretty much went like this:
We suck, line up is crappy, Jeff isn’t wearing his turkey underwear, Yunel is hurt, McLouth is hurt, various trade senarios that make no sense, we suck, Hey, we are winning, Blown lead we suck, Hey, we are winning again, Gonzo sucks trade him, MARTIN! Ballgame, Trade KJ, Trade Frenchy, Trade Norton, Trade Garret…
(anyone- did I miss anything?)
I TAKE BACK THE LAST POST. PER DOB, PRADO IS THE STARTER FOR NOW. I WONDER WHO TOLD HIM TO DO THAT? KELLY HIMSELF? THIS MAKES TOO MUCH SENSE TO BE COX’S DECISION.
We need bullpen help, not so much this year as next year. I think one of KJ or Frenchy will be traded for a bullpen arm. Besides Gonzo, Soriano, Moylan, Medlen, who else do we have? Maybe Marek? One or 2 of those closers will be gone next year, and Medlen could/should be a starter eventually. The bullpen is thinner than we think, and I think Wren makes a move for a bullpen arm this year with KJ or Frenchy, who at this point can only net a bullpen arm anyway.
I’ll use tonight’s game as leverage to reiterate this….Prado and Infante in the same lineup is a good lineup, especially when you subtract KJ and Frenchy. With our pitching, our lineup can survive without wannabe power hitters…we just need good hitters, and we have them. Play them Bobby.
With every passing day, Prado’s stats defy the sample size argument…When Chipper needs a day off, move Prado to 3rd, put Diory at 2nd, or Prado at 3rd, Infante at 2nd, Diaz in RF. I don’t buy the “utility” argument either when guys that are versatile can just be swapped around the field regardless if they start or not…
Braves are holding their own with Norton out. Wait till he gets back!
June 30th, 200911:00 pm
You go back RIGHT NOW and read every.single.post. It’s your punishment for not being here during the game…(RG)
whatever you say my luv
Baseball is a great game and one that is seldom played perfectly and tonight is a classic example. Great win by the Braves and one that can pick up a struggling club. I was encouraged by D. Lowe’s stuff and our defense tonight. The double play started by Chipper was a key play. Of course the night by Prado was tremendous. I think he’s earned the starting role with his grit, hustle, and great play with the glove and bat.
But, we gained a game.
It’s all good.
June 30th, 200911:01 pm
(anyone- did I miss anything?) cab
Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg got another hit.
Wayne in Utah
Your language restraint is much appreciated tonight! Thanks.
June 30th, 200911:02 pm
“Gonzo would only have been in a save situation if he hadn’t given up the lead and then pitched the 9th also.”
However, he does receive a ‘blown save” for his performance tonight.
lmao @ CBF’s 10:59.
Ha, you summed up the night’s activities pretty well.
I hope we don’t have Jenkins, he is a has been and a never was.
Have you seen Freeman or Heyward play live?
June 30th, 200911:03 pm
Then again, that sounds like every other night as well…maybe just not in that particular order. (Depends on if we win or lose)
June 30th, 200911:04 pm
I might quiz you.
That was funny CBF. Thanks for the summary, that way I don’t have to go back and do it!
June 30th, 200911:05 pm
At the risk of Monday morning quarterbacking and piling on I have a question for you. In your opinion why has Prado never been given a chance? This guy hit .320 last year with a .838 OPS last year. He is a pretty good hitter. How is it posible with this line up he only had 132 at bats this season?
Logan ,EOF Gonzo all lefties
Moylan,Medlen ,Soriano Righties
with any luck all these guys perform, leaving Bobby and FW no choice but to Keep Bennet Carlyle and Campy …in Gwinnette
Did I miss anything that matters?
Frenchy and his briefs are getting roasted on SportsCenter
Gonzo gave up 2 runs, and we were ahead by 1 run before. Save situation.
oh jeez. they’re doing turkey calls on sportscenter.
June 30th, 200911:06 pm
ESPN talkin bout Frenchies turkey Underpants
Ouch…that hurts me.
June 30th, 200911:07 pm
I am fairly certain that BH has a doctorate, Jared (STEVE)
Oh he has a BS degree, huh? And an MS (more of the same) degree too? I wonder why he didn’t go ahead and get his PHD (Piled Higher & Deeper) too? He can certainly dish that BS, no doubt.
For the one who asked about whether Gonzo was techinically in a save situation, even though he would have to finish the 9th inning without giving up the lead to get a save, he is credited with a blown save, because he entered the game with a lead, and didn’t hold that lead
Francoeur figured out how to get talked about on SportsCenter. He can suck all year, but all he has to do is talk about turkey underwear and, well, he and his team are worthy of being in a primo spot on SportsCenter.
And he didn’t even wear the damn turkey underwear during the game.
He truly is the Golden Boy, isn’t he? Awesome.
Wow. A perfect evening (apart from Gonzo), finished off with a Cox hater being made to look like an absolute fool. On that note, good night. Nice work from the Bravos on this evening. Lowe is back, and we have a very, very good chance to reel off 4 of the next 5. Looking forward to it.
June 30th, 200911:09 pm
cabravesfan, that was funny, and it pretty well summed it up.
June 30th, 200911:10 pm
I think it was a hold being the 8th and all. Regardless, he blew something.
June 30th, 200911:12 pm
Also, I really hope we don’t part ways with Francoeur. He has been atrocious at times, but for some reason I see that as another Jermaine Dye just waiting to happen. He has definitely been a different player this month-.290 with a +.330 OBP since June 11th, 4 2Bs and a HR…not great by any stretch, but worth keeping an eye on.
June 30th, 200911:14 pm
Chop Chop, maybe you haven’t noticed, but Frenchy is playing better. And his drawers probably are bigger and cost more than yours.
That right there is why KJ shouldn’t start another game this year unless Pradow needs a day off.. Pradow single handily won us this game.. He may not be the best defensive second basemen in the league, but the guy can hit.. I would trade Kelly Johnson for just about anything right now..
No I doubt that OMar would ever be full time either, but I was just going off of a few suggestions. I would like to see him rotate in a few different places personally. I like the lineup the way it is if only we could get McCann to relax when batting 5.
June 30th, 200911:16 pm
Astros are using a 6 man rotation?
June 30th, 200911:17 pm
Did you see this?
I think so
Wow. The Mets CF fell on his face trying to catch a fly ball. Icing on the cake.
June 30th, 200911:18 pm
Pennski, McCann rakes in the 5 hole. It’s 4 that gives him fits.
June 30th, 200911:19 pm
Yo, Anders, this just in, your boys stink big-time.
June 30th, 200911:21 pm
That’s what I meant SoWeGa fanatic. If only we had a good clean up hitter. appreciate the heads up.
June 30th, 200911:22 pm
I’d say Kelly Johnson will be wearing a different uniform some time before the end of July, no?
One thing about Frenchy…At least he’s having fun again. The turkey underwerear seems so stupid, but if it’s loosening up the team a little, then maybe it’s so smart. If you can’t lead with your bat, then lead with your attitude. It’s nice to see him having fun again, and hopefully that’ll translate at the plate…but i still think his bat speed is too slow!
June 30th, 200911:23 pm
Hilarious, SoWeGa Fanatic. Feel free to gobble, gobble on Frenchy all you want, but some folks who are Braves fans require consistent proof of improvement from Jeff Francoeur.
“He’s too hot to take out,” Cox said of Prado, who hit a two-out, eighth-inning RBI double to tie the score, and a one-out single after falling behind in the count 0-2 against Chan Ho Park in the 10th.
“Tonight I went out and did my best,” said Prado, who has played most of the season with a sore groin that was wrapped with icebags late Tuesday, as it is after every game. “I’m proud for the team, that we won today….
“Whatever the position – if Bobby wants to keep me in the lineup, that makes me feel really good. I just want to keep playing hard for the team.”
June 30th, 200911:24 pm
Confidence is everything in this game.
Ask the Fish, they just won again.
June 30th, 200911:25 pm
Red Sox blow a 10-1 lead. O’s score 5 in the 7th and 5 in the 8th to lead 11-10.
How did the AJC dating session go the other night? Get any good flirtations? Sorry I missed out. The wedding was fun…
Oh yeah Mitchell, you are off the hook now. And a genius for calling it!
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
