Oops, Roman Gal, shouldn’t have said “moonwalk.” Coach says we’re not allowed to talk about it. Wouldn’t want to get on his sh!t list like Lew. Poor Lew.
Words also banned by Coach: “Beat” “it” “Thriller.” Hence, baseball games are never #3s, teams do not get #1ed, and…I can’t think of anything snarky for #2.
June 29th, 20098:43 pm
I expect someone has already answered this question but I have not seen the response.
What do you think of promoting Chris Burke to play SS and trading Escobar for an OF? Can u think of any teams that might be willing to take a SS for a quality OF? I suspect team chemistry is affecting the Braves even though McCann said this is the “funnest” team he has been on.
Jman, Hate to break it to you, but FW ain’t trading Javy for any prospects. That would defeat the whole purpose of signing him. The only pitchers that will be dealt if any, are Gonzo and Soriano, and that is only if he has no chance to sign them to an extension. That being said, ATL don’t have to many options unless he is willing to deal one or all of the “Untouchables”. If FW does that, there goes our farm system, and there goes our future.
June 29th, 20098:44 pm
My point is simple, too. You need run production and run prevention to win. JV gives more run prevention than JD gives run production, statistically. JD is under contract for only one more season. You can get much more value for Vazquez, period.
Well, he’s just so good at every position they have to work him in at all of them.
Sharpening pitchfork…calling McFann…
(and by the way, it is spelled Riaan)
June 29th, 20098:45 pm
Steve from OH,
If you don’t judge a pitcher by his W-L record, what can you judge him by? I mean, it’s his job to win the game. If he’s not winning games he must not be doing his job. This is the National League, the pitchers hit too. It’s every bit as much their fault when they lose. If they don’t pitch a shutout they don’t deserve to win.
June 29th, 20098:46 pm
As a matter of fact this team is as fun to watch as a circus. Maybe thats what Mc referred to.
N8… I said trade Vazquez to the Brewers and the Brewers send the white sox prospects. The fact that the White Sox once had Javy means nothing to this deal.
I like Rios too, but he’s just as bad if not worse than Yunel with that attitude.
How can you even consider Vazquez and “win value” in the same sentence? Jman
And you thought this was an offnight! Good luck with this one.
June 29th, 20098:47 pm
Bill (SC), Sounds interesting, but it would have to be a power bat that is controlled for the next 2-3 years. I don’t see that happening with ATL having so much trouble scoring runs. If Escobar is dealt, it will be because of these past 2 months. And if ATL wants him gone that bad they will take little or nothing for him.
Steve from OH,
Who would JD be?
June 29th, 20098:48 pm
Ah, shoot, cab, don’t tell me I’ve already spelled the kid’s name wrong?!? Has it been Americanized to “Ryan” in its pronunciation, or did he just beat up every kid in Coral Springs who tried it?
Come on man, cant expect everyone to know anything about baseball………some just talk cause there is nothing more exciting out there to do.
Sarcasm (PWH), that is just pure B.S. Hope you were using sarcasm there.
jason we didnt SIGN Vazquez we traded for him. He has one year left on his deal. If the Braves fall out further he WILL be traded for prospects. And great one’s at that since he’ll be the only legit SP on the trading block for a contender.
June 29th, 20098:49 pm
Jermaine Dye, Doc.
I have this mental image of scoots dancing sloppily on a beach with a lei trying desperately to…uh…well…
This was in the 1920’s, btw. He wasn’t dancing sloppily because he was drunk. Prohibition, dudes.
June 29th, 20098:50 pm
If not Dye, then who!? Dont sit there and make baseless arguments without offering an alternative. If I listen to you guys we might as well just keep Francoeur and hope for the best… lol
June 29th, 20098:51 pm
Jman, Hate to break it to you, but FW ain’t trading Javy for any prospects. That would defeat the whole purpose of trading for him in the first place.
Is that better?
June 29th, 20098:52 pm
Since I’m on a wierd-names kick, here’s our All-Wierd-Names Team:
1B: Kala Ka’ahiue
2B: Yoel Campusano
3B: Jordan Kreke
SS: Robert Marcial
C: Daniel Elorriaga-Matra
OF: Jahdiel Santamaria
OF: Cory Harrilchak
OF: Robert Hefflinger
DH: Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg
P: Bret Olberholtzer
That hurts, Steve, man. Really, really hurts.
I’d never be caught wearing a lei.
scoots,exactly how old are you?
June 29th, 20098:53 pm
Vazquez for Dye?
Are you serious?…….. Id rather finish last before doing that kind of move.
“Baseless arguments?” Don’t kill my good mood, bro! I very rarely make an argument without statistical backing. And this one is no different.
If the Braves fall completely out of contention Javy is a goner… Hate to break it to you. I swear you guys must have his poster up on your wall. This is a guy who has been largly inconsistent since his days in Montreal. He comes to Atlanta has a few good starts, his value skyrockets and you think we ought to keep him indefinitely… lol. serioulsy fellas…
Jman, to finish up on your response. I stand by the fact that he is not going to trade any starting pitching. FW will not make a move concerning a starter until the offseason. He has to know at what capability Huddy will be at. The whole purpose of aquiring all this starting pitching is because of what happened last year.
June 29th, 20098:54 pm
STEVE… WHO THEN!!!!!! if not Dye who!? I’m waiting…
June 29th, 20098:55 pm
jason I could not disagree more. The offense will have to be addressed in the offseason. Javy makes a ton of money. He will not be a Brave in 2010, and maybe not after July this season. Mark it down.
There are no bats to be found right now. That is optional to change. One bat will not make the difference with this team we need at least 2. A RF and a2B. I don’t think that can bve done this year and us still have a chance at contending.
June 29th, 20098:56 pm
My bad, scoots. Altering mental image…1982…jheri curl…leather jacket…platform shoes…score.
June 29th, 20098:57 pm
Oops, Roman Gal, shouldn’t have said “moonwalk.” Coach says we’re not allowed to talk about it. Steve from OH
Yeah, you’d better watch it. Coach controls the blog…or, wait…is it that other guy? You know, the one with the leather jacket and that snazzy picture at the top of the page? I forget…
Rob from SC
Is getting one bat for Vazquez really worth it. Regardless of that bat we still won’t get anything out of Johnson, Kotchman, and Francoeur. There are not any young quality bats out there.
Chop Chop, I just read your Invincible Nuts Man story and cracked up…sorry, poor choice of words. That guy’s nuts…dang, this is difficult to talk about.
June 29th, 20098:58 pm
Why do you want to pitchfork me? I haven’t said anything bad about McCann in at least an hour…
Infante will be back in August. There’s your 2B. I’m sure Johnson is due for one of his hot streaks that will last a couple of weeks pretty soon… This division is weak, and Dye COULD be the difference.
You did spell it wrong, you are forgiven, and I have no idea how to pronounce it- his college team’s media guide didn’t have a pronunciation guide but I am assuming “Ryan” is close enough
CB, I’m 58 and happy to count the number. I’m not the oldest guy on the forum, but whoever that is probably doesn’t have to squint in the rearview mirror to see me, LOL.
Probably a package of prospects, jman. It would have to be a good package. Hey, I’m not Frank Wren, and don’t have the insider info, and I wouldn’t want his job, but I can recognize a negative value trade when I see it. Don’t be all offended when someone disagrees with you. Happens all the time here…
June 29th, 20098:59 pm
You think he will do the job? I think that guy has not been consistent through his career………..
Jman, I did not say that FW would not look for a bat in the offseason. I said he would not until… Javy might be gone in the off season. FW wants to know what he has in Huddy before he looks at Javy. We have the pitching to contend next year, and either Huddy or Javy will be gone. I don’t think this is the season to make trades in hopes of not making it past the first round of the play offs. One bat is not going to turn ATL around. ATL needs 2.
You know, the one with the leather jacket and that snazzy picture at the top of the page?
I was just giving my Buddy Steve from OH some backup. He singlehandedly held off the in game Negative Nellies before he blew a fuse and had to take an hour or so off.
June 29th, 20099:00 pm
Schafer!! You’re killing me! Hits, not strikeouts…
You should know by now (if you read the comments at LT’s blog) how much I love our catcher…and if McFann is too nice to do it, make no mistake- I have no problems pitchforking someone I don’t actually know in the back
If we hold off do you guy think we can get more from Vazquez during the offseason. Also we would have more time to (if Frank Wren wants to)discuss trading Derek Lowe in order to keep Vazquez.
not offended. Just want you guys to see my point. It’s not as risky as trading 3 prospects for a guy like Dye. It’s replacing big salary with a big salary and a bat. I’d prefer getting a package of prospects for Vazquez too, but only if the braves are completely out of it. If they’re not then try to get to the playoffs. Once there with this staff anything could happen and you didnt have to mortgage the future to do it.
June 29th, 20099:02 pm
Infante in august? Helloooooooooooo
It was a broken hand not broken hip
Yeah, that’s him. He goes around parading as the Travelling Everyman talking about BBQ and music.
Lowe’s going nowhere guys. Unless it’s a big time market who needs a solid #2 pitcher… not gonna happen. Javy is having a great season, unlike his last few. His value is through the roof. It’s time to cash-in if we the chance to make it to October.
June 29th, 20099:03 pm
Doc–who now? Not sure who you’re talking about.
Steve-OH, you’re right about one thing, LOL. I do not believe there is anything that will more quickly harsh a mellow than another post or 100 on the trading of Javier Vazquez.
Doc, it’s a broken bone in his pinkie… He’s supposed to start rehabbing after the break… He’ll be back mid-August.
June 29th, 20099:04 pm
You can try. [smirk]. I’m pretty quick, so you’d have to catch me first.
Plus, I just dont see the whitesox wanting vazquez again……….
Like DOB said, Lowe has a good track record in the playoff’s. Maybe a team really wants to go for it. If we don’t put Vazquez on the market, then Lowe becomes the best pitcher available. I would think a team like Texas would be interested.
June 29th, 20099:05 pm
Lol… geez. Next subject!
Scoots, just so you know, I’m jealous that a 58-year old dude can not only out-baseball me, but out-dance me, too. If you pick up the guitar, we might not be friends anymore.
Jman, Don’t mean to sound rude or anything. People on here have their Ideas about their team. Some are very sound. You have to stand firm in how you think this or that will improve the team. I am standing firm in mine. I think you have to look at the future and not get so locked in on this season.
Cant we get Hardy……………the guy has 4 hits tonight………..send vazquez over there.
June 29th, 20099:06 pm
Lol… geez…. Next subject. It was Vazquez to the Brewers not White Sox, Doc… Enough of that… Go Braves!
June 29th, 20099:07 pm
I was just kidding on that Hardy statement
If you pick up the guitar, we might not be friends anymore. Steve from OH
Would it make you mad if a ** year-old girl could out-dance and out-guitarplay you?
Doc Holiday, Again with the Vasquez trade…. LOL!!!
and jason I agree… unless there’s a chance to win the division this year. more than 4 games out at the deadline let’s deal for prospects and a brighter future.
June 29th, 20099:08 pm
I can assure you Infante will play a game for the braves well before july its over.
June 29th, 20099:09 pm
I think you have to look at the future and not get so locked in on this season.
Fortunately for the rest of us, that time is not quite here yet. Like it or not, and despite all of Coach’s pontificating about “done” and “.600 ball” or whatever, we’re 5 games out in a pretty crappy division. We’re not done yet. Are we close? You bet. Will a nice winning streak put us in 1st? Probably, with the suckitude of Philly’s rotation and the Mets having more injuries than Ryan Freel. So the time to discuss trading JV isn’t here yet.
“N8… I said trade Vazquez to the Brewers and the Brewers send the white sox prospects. The fact that the White Sox once had Javy means nothing to this deal.” Jman
And I said that since 3-way trades are rare and difficult to put together.
June 29th, 20099:10 pm
Steve-OH, shoot, EVERY baby-boomer guy played the guitar at some point, LOL. Women would put THAT **** on the bubblegum card without fail, no-doubter, touch-em-all.
Sleep safely knowing that my calluses have long gone the way of my platform shoes!
I guess that makes up for the dropped pop-up, huh?
And the Brewers claimed this guy off of waivers from the Cubs? Oh my.
Yes and no, RG. Them gals is supposed to dance good, but play guitar? Never heard of it. Yikes, even if I am the worst player this side of Kurt Cobain…
I’d be crushed.
June 29th, 20099:11 pm
Im not into trading Vazquez………….I was just blogging around………If theres a pitcher in the starting rotation I would trade it would be Lowe and for obvious reasons we cant. So I know if we have to deal a pitcher it would have to be JoJo or Medlen…………I would send JoJo …………
brew crew busting it open against the Mets. 7 to 2 now.
ok… i concede. Apparently there are many more big bats out there that could be had this season. Dye is a bum… Vazquez is the Messiah!
GO BREWERS!!! GRAND SALOMI!!!
June 29th, 20099:12 pm
Game over in milwaukee……….we pick half a game on the mets.
June 29th, 20099:13 pm
I’ll get you in the end…I’m not above fighting dirty at all and I can find you…
Jman, who would we deal. That’s why I was saying that Javy would wait until the offseason. If we trade Javy, then go get a MLB ready bat and some prospects too. Trust me when I say, Teams will need pitching next year also. You can never have enough pitching.
June 29th, 20099:15 pm
Well, if it makes you feel better, music is my only talent, and you could out-baseball me anyday.
Dye would certainly help us, but only if he parachuted into Turner and KO’ed Francoeur mid-inning and took his place. Or if we simply traded a bunch of mediocre prospects for him. That’s not the question. The question was is JV-for-Dye going to help us this year? No. Would Dye, by himelf, help us? Yes.
June 29th, 20099:16 pm
jason, maybe I’m overcomensating for Dye. Just figured he’s gonna be a pretty hot commodity at the deadline. Have to overpay. I dont know though. Javy seems like the major trade piece for just about anything at this point. Maybe Yunel, but he’s gonna require a high ceiling SS in return.
So you’re a musician, RG? Well, you’ve got that on me, at least. Though I am a faux-picker, music is a foreign language to me, lol!
I’m not above fighting dirty at all and I can find you…
Well, considering you know my email address, I wouldn’t be surprised.
muts spent 150 M and all they have to show is a below .500 team
June 29th, 20099:17 pm
Steve from OH, i agree that the season is not over yet. Does it look good? no. Do we still have a shot? yes. What I was saying is that for any deal to made this year, it has to work for the next 2. Like the McLouth deal. I don’t see FW trading Javy or any important piece for a rental. I don’t think that’s a chance worth taking. We have the pitching in place to contend for at least the next 2. We need to make smart deals for the future as well as the present.
June 29th, 20099:18 pm
OK, that’s enough frivolity for me. Kinda felt like old times around here tonight, to tell you the truth, and I enjoyed the ever-lovin’ out of it. I’m gonna go get a bowl of Breyer’s and look up the pronunciation of Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg’s name.
What, you thought I could sleep without knowing?
So you’re a musician, RG?
Yes. Of all the instruments I play reletively well, guitar is certainly one of the weaker ones, though…so you might be able to out-guitarplay me.
I know you know.
Roman Gal Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg has been DHing and playing 1B a little bit.
Haha! Yes! Look who made the switch first…
Maybe not a pitchfork–perhaps I could bring myself to handle a tarantula just this once…
RG She’d be the one to yell “Attack!” right before she charges at me.
Dang, you know me pretty well! You sure we’ve never met in person?
he’s already Bench-like in his defense
June 29th, 20099:19 pm
Doc Holiday, I knew you were goofing. I don’t have the smiley faces down so I have to go old scholl with LOL!!! Laugh out loud…
June 29th, 20099:20 pm
Well…………we are almost back to the 90s…………..muts zuk, phillies zuk, fish zuk……….we had tons of pitching, in a few day we will be 3rd in ERA and challenging for 2nd. We just need that bat to rule again.
June 29th, 20099:21 pm
perhaps I could bring myself to handle a tarantula just this once… McFann
[backing away slowly]
Ok, now…that’s taking it too far!! You trying to get somebody killed?!
Well, I can out-guitar-play my one buddy who does nothing but strum chords country-style, but anyone else? Not a chance! I’m too busy to have more than one serious hobby, and the Braves is it for me. Though playing multiple instruments is very impressive.
Roman Gal I’m pretty quick, so you’d have to catch me first.
Whoops, that lets me out, I guess…
Although, I cann catch a Gerbil or two and a crazy Bird, so…
June 29th, 20099:22 pm
Jman, see the pickle that we are in. We are so close, but yet so freakin far. What we really need is for KJ to go on a .500 tear, and for Francouer to just do something, anything.
June 29th, 20099:23 pm
Did someone mention prohibition
Thought that was the name for part of our offense !
I forgot I have you’re e-mail! Thanks for reminding me
I don’t do spiders. Ever. Not even in defense of our mann. Sorry.
June 29th, 20099:24 pm
My previous trade hope was Nelson Cruz of Texas, but the Rangers would be fools to trade him. You want a present help and future stud he’s it.
Jman, you got to know, we are like vultures sitting around ready to pick the bones.
I really want to learn how to play the bassoon. I sat next to a bassoon player in a concert once, and I fell in love with that stinkin’ instrument. I think I’m gonna have to go steal me one of them…their so dang expensive…
June 29th, 20099:26 pm
Jman – my trade hope is that THIS IS 1992 and we run into those drongos from Chicago again,
oh the joy !!!
Now, let’s just be rational here…
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
