“Three way deal… Braves, Brewers, White Sox… Brewers get Vazquez, White Sox get Brewers prospects and Francoeur, Braves get Jermaine Dye… What do ya think?”

I think this deal came from either the Brewers or White Sox blog. No way in the world we give up JV for J. Dye. Fading outfielder for prime time starting pitcher?

nolie, I knw that there are some asses on this blog, sometimes they are to tell the difference. I love coming on here. Some of you guys are dropping stats, scouting, payroll of our team and every other player. I think all the crazy trade talk has gotten on everyone’s bad side.

I don’t care who else is in the game. I’m a Braves fan ONLY, all non-Braves suck IMO. I also don’t vote for Braves players who don’t deserve it.

“Like it or not members of the Javier Vazquez fan club. He’s one of the 3 biggest trade chips Wren has. If we’re 6 or more games back July 31st, he’ll be gone, and the Braves will be better because of it.”

N8, Vazquez in a three way trade that nets us JUST Jermaine Dye is stupid. Plain and simple. If you can’t see that, then I am not sure what to say.

Shamus Thacker, I can’t say the same. I am going to be laughed at and called stupid, whatever. I voted Chipper, BMac, and ESCO, and McLouth (even though he started a Pirate). I love the idea of getting rid of Francouer and getting Dye.. That would immediately put some power and consistent hitting into our lineup.. I don’t like the idea of getting rid of Vazquez, but I am a realist and I know he will bring the most back in return.. We absolutely need a RH power bat, and Dye fits that DNA perfectly.. I would for this trade to happen..

I just don’t think we are trading anyone that is still signed beyond this season. I thought I heard FW the other day say that he was not trading any pitching. When it comes down to Gonzo and Soriano, if you can sign them you sign them, and I mean both. If you think you can’t, you trade. you can not let them go without a return.

CorkylikesBeer, no. What’s in that? Apple Pucker and Red Bull? I’ve got a buddy that swears by the Cherry UV and Red Bull. One of my favorite drinks is the Washington Apple (Apple Pucker, Cranberry Juice and Crown Royal). But I’m too cheap to by the Crown!

On a side note aimed at everybody. I think what’s so intriguing about this season and the deadline, similar to last year, is what FRANK WREN will do.

Last year was easy with Tex. We were out of it. Wren couldn’t get the Jason Bay deal done, and Tex was going to walk. Easy decision.

But this year will be the true test of what Wren will do with some tough decisions to be made. Many of us (myself included) keep talking about “how the Braves do it”, or have done it in the past. Especially when talking about free agents vs. trades.

Well I think Wren has shown that he does things differently than JS did. He has zero personal ties to Smoltz and Glavine, thus had zero problem cutting them loose. He overspent for D-Lowe. Not a chance in hell JS makes that move. JS probably trades Hanson for Peavy. Or somehow weasels Peavy out of SD without giving up Escobar, Hanson or Heyward. LOL!

But Wren signed Lowe, KK and traded for Vazquez taking on a ton of salary in the process. The Renteria trade to Detroit and the McLouth trade were both very JS like.

But whatever happens with Vazquez, Hudson, Heyward, Kotchman, Jeff and KJ in the coming weeks/months will go a long way in telling us what kind of GM Wren will be. Maybe not a glimpse into the success or failure he will have, just what angle he’s going to take when certain scenarios are come upon.

The entire time that JS was the GM, right down to the Tex trade, JS was never a seller. Sometimes didn’t do much “buying” at the deadline, but never sold off parts to get younger and cheaper. A lot of that had to do with ownership.

Only time I can remember him “selling” was trading Millwood for Estrada when Maddux accepted arbitration. Every other time he “sold” off a player, was when there was a younger guy coming up to take his place, or he had another move in mind.

In Wren’s first season as GM, he had to be a seller at the deadline and had the tough decisions of cutting off Glavine and Smoltz.

Yet in the end, we’re no more successful or worse off than JS’s last two seasons. Many paths to get to the same place.

I’m excited/interested to see what Wren is going to do.

N8, I think that’s why there is such a strong debate about what is going to happen. Heck, noone knows. Noone saw smoltz and Glavine leaving. Alot may have wanted so. Noone and I mean noone saw the McLouth trade. FW also had tough decisions to make in regards to last season with all those injuries. So, he overspent on Lowe. He didn’t know that he was going to be able to get KK. Those Japanese players are lotto, more so than FAs. He knew he had to have pitching to last the season. The problem I see is FW hands are tied on money. I know it was said that ATL had all this money to spend and has money left over still for more moves. I am not so sure. I think FW was put on a strict budget and now has no extra money to spare. So where do we go? We can’t take on payroll. If we sell, we are showing fans that we are giving up. So, what should FW do? ANy ideas? Open to eveyone.

Ultimately, it is the conversation that has me posting. DOB and Carroll do a great job at giving us the inside “scoop”. But if that’s all I wanted, I would just scroll for their posts, check out links that other people post and move on.

But I enjoy the back and forth. There really isn’t anybody that I don’t enjoy. To me it’s more fun to have a conversation/debate with somebody that doesn’t agree with you. Makes you think about your own stance, imo.

Many have said it, and I have agreed (and still do), that like the world itself, this blog would be BORING if everybody agreed on everything.

All the speculation is just that. Come July 31st (or maybe before), there is going to be plenty of “gotcha!” going on on the blog.

Not gonna lie. If Vazquez is traded, I’ll get a smile of satisfacton out of it. If not, then I’ll prepare for the “I told you so’s” to start.

But if Vazquez is traded for little to nothing that either doesnt’ help this year, or in the future, regardless of what some think, I won’t be happy about it.

Jman, I’m not denying the impact Dye would have on the lineup (barring an adjustment to NL pitching), especially just the cause/effect of him replacing Francoeur.

But 3 way trades are tough to do, and obviously the White Sox aren’t taking Vazquez back anytime soon. If Dye was on any other team, I’d be more inclined to actually believe it might be possible.

I’m thinking more along the lines of younger players, that might help this year, but surely would do so next year or beyond.

We’ve got a true commodity in Vazquez and trading him for the RIGHT pieces migh mean the difference in making the playoffs for years to come, or at least being in real contention to do so.

Of course, we could trade him for a complete bust, while Vazquez helps a tema win the WS, and signs an extension that has him pitching well for 3-4 years, too!

So far in every trade that Wren has traded away a proven veteran, he has gotten good players in return. When you’ve got something people want, it’s just a matter of picking the best deal out there, and assessing which one is a “fit” and which one allows you to be set up for other moves.

If we’re out of it, Wren is in the driver’s seat come July 31st.

Steve from OH… how many wins has Vazquez gotten lately? We have no hitting. How can you even consider Vazquez and “win value” in the same sentence? Dont hit, cant win… Vazquez is a part of the deepest aspect of this team. He has to be included in any deal for a difference making hitter… which Dye would be.

I didn’t know old men in loafers and slacks could tap-dance. Can you moonwalk, too?

I have to admit, today is the closest I’ve come to using a smiley-face. It’s a good thing I have better self-control than your typical, run-of-the-mill college student.

The only way Wren should even consider trading for Dye is if the Braves are still in it. If not, then deal Vazquez for 2 top prospects and another high level kid. If Dye is truly all that is needed to get the Braves into the playoffs this season then by all means do it. I’d love to see Lowe, Jurjjans, Kawakami, and Hanson in a short series against anyone! BUT ONLY if the Braves are within 4 games at the deadline.

Since when is a pitcher’s win-loss record any indication of how good he is? Do people still really believe this?

CB-

You know that I now picture you with curly hair, singing and dancing your way through the berry bushes.

Bet your last prospect-hug, bubba. Dude, I grew up in the South, less than a hour from the birthplace of beach music. If you couldn’t dance, your legs weren’t the only part of your body to fall into disuse.

I might be a little older than you young bucks, but, I make up for it with smooth, LOL.

Steve from Oh the point is simply this… Vazquez cant get a win b/c he cant get run support… neither can Jurjjans. You simply cannot hold on to a piece of the deepest, best part of your team when you have 2 guys who can step in to replace him PLUS get a bonified, RH power bat to help the offense. It’s as simple as 2+2=4…
