“Three way deal… Braves, Brewers, White Sox… Brewers get Vazquez, White Sox get Brewers prospects and Francoeur, Braves get Jermaine Dye… What do ya think?”
I think this deal came from either the Brewers or White Sox blog. No way in the world we give up JV for J. Dye. Fading outfielder for prime time starting pitcher?
June 29th, 20097:09 pm
nolie, I knw that there are some asses on this blog, sometimes they are to tell the difference. I love coming on here. Some of you guys are dropping stats, scouting, payroll of our team and every other player. I think all the crazy trade talk has gotten on everyone’s bad side.
June 29th, 20097:12 pm
I’ve cast 100-votes for Chipper and Mac; not a single vote for anyone else on any team.
I don’t care who else is in the game. I’m a Braves fan ONLY, all non-Braves suck IMO. I also don’t vote for Braves players who don’t deserve it.
June 29th, 20097:16 pm
“Like it or not members of the Javier Vazquez fan club. He’s one of the 3 biggest trade chips Wren has. If we’re 6 or more games back July 31st, he’ll be gone, and the Braves will be better because of it.”
N8, Vazquez in a three way trade that nets us JUST Jermaine Dye is stupid. Plain and simple. If you can’t see that, then I am not sure what to say.
June 29th, 20097:17 pm
Shamus Thacker, I can’t say the same. I am going to be laughed at and called stupid, whatever. I voted Chipper, BMac, and ESCO, and McLouth (even though he started a Pirate). I also voted Willie Harris. Yes, Willie Harris. Is he an all star? Hell no. But He went to my highschool and graduated not long after me. It’s my hometown, what can I say?
June 29th, 20097:18 pm
By chance are you going to be at the Braves/Brewers game in Milwaukee on Sunday July 26th? If so, it would be cool to meet you and get your autograph.. I will even buy you a beer my friend..
June 29th, 20097:19 pm
Neight and acting like 12 year old girls – no offense McFann
None taken…since I’m not 12.
keylargo, I agree. I wrote up a long post before but the blog ate it. Then I tried to write a short, short one with the point that Vazquez in a three way trade for JUST Dye makes zero sense for the Braves.
June 29th, 20097:20 pm
There it is……the much shorter one at least.
I don’t care who else is in the game. I’m a Braves fan ONLY, all non-Braves suck IMO. I also don’t vote for Braves players who don’t deserve it. – Shamus
I voted for my good ol’ pals efrim, capt. caveman, and DOB.
:big ol’ thumbs up!:
June 29th, 20097:21 pm
I love the idea of getting rid of Francouer and getting Dye.. That would immediately put some power and consistent hitting into our lineup.. I don’t like the idea of getting rid of Vazquez, but I am a realist and I know he will bring the most back in return.. We absolutely need a RH power bat, and Dye fits that DNA perfectly.. I would for this trade to happen..
June 29th, 20097:22 pm
Jason, your reason for voting for Willie Harris is a good one.
It’s just a popularity contest anyway, right?
June 29th, 20097:23 pm
I just don’t think we are trading anyone that is still signed beyond this season. I thought I heard FW the other day say that he was not trading any pitching. When it comes down to Gonzo and Soriano, if you can sign them you sign them, and I mean both. If you think you can’t, you trade. you can not let them go without a return.
June 29th, 20097:24 pm
CorkylikesBeer, no. What’s in that? Apple Pucker and Red Bull? I’ve got a buddy that swears by the Cherry UV and Red Bull. One of my favorite drinks is the Washington Apple (Apple Pucker, Cranberry Juice and Crown Royal). But I’m too cheap to by the Crown!
On a side note aimed at everybody. I think what’s so intriguing about this season and the deadline, similar to last year, is what FRANK WREN will do.
Last year was easy with Tex. We were out of it. Wren couldn’t get the Jason Bay deal done, and Tex was going to walk. Easy decision.
But this year will be the true test of what Wren will do with some tough decisions to be made. Many of us (myself included) keep talking about “how the Braves do it”, or have done it in the past. Especially when talking about free agents vs. trades.
Well I think Wren has shown that he does things differently than JS did. He has zero personal ties to Smoltz and Glavine, thus had zero problem cutting them loose. He overspent for D-Lowe. Not a chance in hell JS makes that move. JS probably trades Hanson for Peavy. Or somehow weasels Peavy out of SD without giving up Escobar, Hanson or Heyward. LOL!
But Wren signed Lowe, KK and traded for Vazquez taking on a ton of salary in the process. The Renteria trade to Detroit and the McLouth trade were both very JS like.
But whatever happens with Vazquez, Hudson, Heyward, Kotchman, Jeff and KJ in the coming weeks/months will go a long way in telling us what kind of GM Wren will be. Maybe not a glimpse into the success or failure he will have, just what angle he’s going to take when certain scenarios are come upon.
The entire time that JS was the GM, right down to the Tex trade, JS was never a seller. Sometimes didn’t do much “buying” at the deadline, but never sold off parts to get younger and cheaper. A lot of that had to do with ownership.
Only time I can remember him “selling” was trading Millwood for Estrada when Maddux accepted arbitration. Every other time he “sold” off a player, was when there was a younger guy coming up to take his place, or he had another move in mind.
In Wren’s first season as GM, he had to be a seller at the deadline and had the tough decisions of cutting off Glavine and Smoltz.
Yet in the end, we’re no more successful or worse off than JS’s last two seasons. Many paths to get to the same place.
I’m excited/interested to see what Wren is going to do.
June 29th, 20097:27 pm
Shamus Thacker, yes and the only reason why is he is from Cairo, GA.
June 29th, 20097:28 pm
“None taken…since I’m not 12.” McFann
“N8, Vazquez in a three way trade that nets us JUST Jermaine Dye is stupid. Plain and simple. If you can’t see that, then I am not sure what to say.” Efrim
As much as I’d like to argue/debate with you today (I’m in the mood for digging up stats and some “all in good fun” bickering), I’m not the one who proposed that trade. Didn’t acknowledge it or comment on it, much less agree with it.
Jermaine Dye is NOT the answer.
June 29th, 20097:29 pm
Beltran to see a specialist in Colorado about his knee. Needs second opinion. No good for those Mets.
Efrim, I know you think some of my posts are stupid and off the wall. But if you think that they are so bad, that you’re going to blame me for other stupid ideas, than we’re going to have a problems. LOL!
June 29th, 20097:31 pm
“Jermaine Dye is NOT the answer.”
N8, then that’s ALL that matters bro. Dye in a three way trade for Vazquez doesn’t compute. At least not JUST Dye.
Nova Scotia Steve
June 29th, 20097:33 pm
I getting worried the Braves may move Escobar because of these recent antic’s…Bobby was never one to put up with this kind of stuff…Seems like Yunel is testing his luck….or maybe he wants out…who knows
June 29th, 20097:34 pm
“I know you think some of my posts are stupid and off the wall. But if you think that they are so bad, that you’re going to blame me for other stupid ideas, than we’re going to have a problems. LOL!”
N8, I don’t think that your posts are stupid and off the wall. Not one bit. Trust me man, you and several others are the reason I post here. Passionate Braves fans, dude. We mostly all have different opinions on various subjects regarding the Braves. I live in CT, I have like no Braves fans around to talk too and gage what there thoughts are about my favorite team. That’s why I come on here and post.
June 29th, 20097:36 pm
N8, I think that’s why there is such a strong debate about what is going to happen. Heck, noone knows. Noone saw smoltz and Glavine leaving. Alot may have wanted so. Noone and I mean noone saw the McLouth trade. FW also had tough decisions to make in regards to last season with all those injuries. So, he overspent on Lowe. He didn’t know that he was going to be able to get KK. Those Japanese players are lotto, more so than FAs. He knew he had to have pitching to last the season. The problem I see is FW hands are tied on money. I know it was said that ATL had all this money to spend and has money left over still for more moves. I am not so sure. I think FW was put on a strict budget and now has no extra money to spare. So where do we go? We can’t take on payroll. If we sell, we are showing fans that we are giving up. So, what should FW do? ANy ideas? Open to eveyone.
the hope of the braves nation rests in your hands mr hanson
June 29th, 20097:37 pm
i love baseball. i also love fantasy baseball. if someone on my team is tearing it up and helping me move up the standings to take the top of the standings and a bit of cash at seasons end…..yeah, ill vote for them.
June 29th, 20097:38 pm
nolie…. the reason I mentioned the contract is because I thought Rios was expensive. I even went so far as to sarcastically ask if the Braves would really take on his contract. If you are going to quote me, please do not take just a portion of my comments…use them in their entirety.
lol Nick Green has officially made the big time. He’s in the boston gossip column today for being the latest Red Sock to go out with Heidi Watney. She’s hot. Well done.
June 29th, 20097:40 pm
So how long until we start blaming The Devine Curse for our failure to make the postseason?
June 29th, 20097:41 pm
By chance were you at the Red Sox/Braves game where Lowe pitched? I met a very knowledgeable Braves fan from CT.
The Devine Curse! I love it! So very true when you think of it!
June 29th, 20097:43 pm
I just hope Dave doesn’t write about how much the Braves and Heap have owned Blanton for the blog tomorrow….
June 29th, 20097:44 pm
David Francis is starting for Myrtle Beach tonight.
June 29th, 20097:46 pm
N8…bacardi apple rum and red bull is an apple bomb…very popular here in athens, ga….i like a vegas bomb which is red bull and royal flush shot (crown, peach schnapps, and cranberry)…I like the sound of the washington apple as a shot…or is it a drink
n8, corky. Straight Jager is the way to go!
June 29th, 20097:48 pm
Chopper2Chipper, unfortunately, no. Plus, I’m not really that knowledgable!
scoots, I think we should trade Hudson for Rios, what do you think
Why, yes, and then flip him in a three-way for Ryan Freel and Chone Figgins, LOL.
Gawd. Hoodathunk I ever would have longed for the days when such a scenario was the only bizarro one bruited about on ye old forum. HAVE mercy.
June 29th, 20097:49 pm
Well then you at least have a counterpart in CT. I, however, have few counterparts in bandwagon nation.
June 29th, 20097:52 pm
J.J. Hardy just CRUSHED one.
2-0 Brew Crew.
I even went so far as to sarcastically ask if the Braves would really take on his contract. If you are going to quote me, please do not take just a portion of my comments (Heath)
Sorry I did not get the sarcasm.,as far as I understood you were FOR taking on that contract.
and we all quote part of comments, either because it is just one part that we want to comment on, or because we don’t want to quote an entire post but want to show where our comment is responding to. Though I only printed part of that post, I was responding to the entire thing because as I said I did not see the sarcasm.
You could say 10 things and I could agree with nine of them, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not gonna comment on the one that I disagree with.
June 29th, 20097:53 pm
Is the All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Trophy adorned with a likeness of Ted Williams’s freezer-burnt head?
June 29th, 20097:54 pm
That’s cool Efrim
Ultimately, it is the conversation that has me posting. DOB and Carroll do a great job at giving us the inside “scoop”. But if that’s all I wanted, I would just scroll for their posts, check out links that other people post and move on.
But I enjoy the back and forth. There really isn’t anybody that I don’t enjoy. To me it’s more fun to have a conversation/debate with somebody that doesn’t agree with you. Makes you think about your own stance, imo.
Many have said it, and I have agreed (and still do), that like the world itself, this blog would be BORING if everybody agreed on everything.
All the speculation is just that. Come July 31st (or maybe before), there is going to be plenty of “gotcha!” going on on the blog.
Not gonna lie. If Vazquez is traded, I’ll get a smile of satisfacton out of it. If not, then I’ll prepare for the “I told you so’s” to start.
But if Vazquez is traded for little to nothing that either doesnt’ help this year, or in the future, regardless of what some think, I won’t be happy about it.
June 29th, 20097:58 pm
CorkylikesBeer, I think it’s meant to be shakin and poured as shots. But my dad makes them and drinks them on the rocks.
Pennski, can’t do the straight jag anymore. Overdid it one too many times. Can barely choke down the jag-bombs if I taste the jag too much. Gotta slam em’.
June 29th, 20097:59 pm
Let’s go Brewers and Nats! ~_~
June 29th, 20098:00 pm
Appeared ball hit just-foul by BMac the other night reached upper deck. Couldn’t tell, had weird angle to TV at time. Where did it actually hit before falling?
June 29th, 20098:01 pm
You could say 10 things and I could agree with nine of them, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not gonna comment on the one that I disagree with.
Also, please remember that nolie’s ‘tude varies with his regimen of meds, LOL. He, among all the long-timers here, is mainly the most tolerant of idiocracy, gods love him. We’re working on the part where he tries to inject irony or wit into the written word, and actually have that translate to those unfamiliar with him, LOL. More a problem with the reader than the writer, my opinion.
Mostly, you can’t go too far lost with a simple rule of thumb: if nolie disagrees with you, you’re probably wrong. That’s the premise on which I operate, anyway.
June 29th, 20098:03 pm
Don’t look now, Roman Gal, but Riaan Spanjer-Furstenberg has hit his 3rd homer already tonight for Danville.
June 29th, 20098:04 pm
It was hit into the Terrace level…I am not familiar with the stadium but I got the impression that is rather far from the field, but not in the actual Upper Deck…regardless, Mac absolutly unloaded on that ball- too bad it was foul
June 29th, 20098:05 pm
Is Spanjer-Furstenberg on his jersey?
Tiny lettering in a circle?
June 29th, 20098:07 pm
ncscoots, That’s good advice to know. Thank you
WOW cabravesfan, the Terrace is a LONG poke! TYVM!
June 29th, 20098:09 pm
scoots, you did see the smiley face, lol?
Don’t look now, Roman Gal, but Riaan Spanjer-Furstenberg has hit his 3rd homer already tonight for Danville
You know, one of my personal quirks is that I almost never use players’ nicknames here and write those names out fully (don’t ask, it’s a long story). But, I swear, that boy might cause me to re-think.
The Terrace level is the upper part of the lower deck.
June 29th, 20098:11 pm
Is it sad that I already have Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg’s name memorized?
I expect you to spell out his full name every.time. Kapeesh?
CB, roger that, LOL. What else could have caused me (ME!) to mention the two names which must not be mentioned?
June 29th, 20098:12 pm
Too bad Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg and Daniel Elorriaga-Matra aren’t hitting back to back.
Looked like the ball hit off a facade or something, then fell.
June 29th, 20098:13 pm
Like Jermaine Dye wouldn’t be a huge upgrade for this team… Good lord guys. Jermaine Dye is still one of the premier hitters in the AL Central. And yes it would take at least Vazquez in the deal. Vazquez is the Braves main trade piece right now. Makes $11.5 only under contract for 1 more year after this. It’s no where near as ludicrous as some of you thinking we could or would actually unload Derek Lowe after signing him for 4 years and $15 per…
n8, I’m still a young buck, so I can handle them. But yeah, I’m definitely that way when it comes to tequila.
Not trying to imply that you are old or anything! Just saying that I don’t drink it a lot, definitely not the right choice of words!
June 29th, 20098:14 pm
That’s what Joe & Boog were saying- it went at least 4 or 5 rows deep…
Jman, Ozzie doesn’t want Javier back. Remember all the bad things Ozzie said abotu him last year? I don’t care if it’s a 3 way deal to send Javi to Milwaukee, Dye isn’t the answer for this team in the long run.
June 29th, 20098:16 pm
McFann can breathe easy, because Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg has been DHing and playing 1B a little bit. They must just know that he’s already Bench-like in his defense and are trying to let the other, lesser players work on their catching skills.
June 29th, 20098:17 pm
Pennski, I’m not old. But I’m not that young anymore either, when it comes to tolerating hard alcohol in large quantities.
Drink of choice lately has been vodka/sours or whiskey/sours. But playing in two bands, I have way more shots sent up my way than I prefer to. But when they’re free, how do you turn them down?
With the pitching abundance that we have………..is it possible that we might have some edge on getting a bat? And with the depth on the farm………..
I mean…….seriously………..cant we get 1 good bat if we offer JF and BJ? OR KJ and CK?
KJ and BJ + JoJo or medlen
June 29th, 20098:18 pm
Roman Gal, I enjoyed your blueberries stories the other day, especially your Shirley reference. It reminded me of my childhood days- yeah I’m not a spring chicken either.
I love ya, babe, but you can be a scary woman, sometimes, LOL.
Still, three dingers in a week for, uh, you know…that guy, not bad. Maybe all the letters in his name are like Samson’s locks, give him beaucoup boom.
June 29th, 20098:19 pm
you’d better watch your back…McFann might sneak up and pitchfork you when you least suspect it if you keep talking like that
Got an Elmer Dessens sighting in the Mets bullpen warming up… Man he had quite the line with the ATL last year didnt he… 4 innings 10 runs
June 29th, 20098:20 pm
Jman, Dye and dye alone would not be the answer for this team. And like somebody said before, flanking Mclouth with two guys that can’t cover that much ground anymore, might kill the kid by September.
I think Wren can do better than that, both for the long term and short term.
June 29th, 20098:21 pm
He’s probably just happy to be out of South Africa…
It reminded me of my childhood days- yeah I’m not a spring chicken either. CB
Shirley Temple reminded you of your childhood? That makes me smile.
18 Wheels of Love
June 29th, 20098:23 pm
The Drive By Truckers Live from Austin (City Limits) on DVD July 6th. Classic set list.
you can be a scary woman, sometimes ncscoots
Hmm…that’s a new one. You’re right, though…about the Sampson-locks/Spanjer-Furstenburg-letter thing. So, everyone should spell out his name.
June 29th, 20098:24 pm
Is that where he’s from, South Africa? Oh, shoot, yeah, that makes sense, with a spelling such as “Riann”. Good tip, thanks. Did not know that.
June 29th, 20098:25 pm
I have a feeling McFann isn’t the sneakiest creature. She’d be the one to yell “Attack!” right before she charges at me.
This is a joke……….mets losing again after being swept and we just overtake them……….come on braves………….
June 29th, 20098:26 pm
And if we continue to fall out Vazquez needs to be traded to a contender for top prospects! Yunel and either Soriano or Gonzalez needs to go as well!
Oh, shoot, yeah, that makes sense, with a spelling such as “Riann”.
His mother’s name is Nessie, which is really funny…for, uh…reasons which not many people here would appreciate. Maybe RHR.
If there was ever a person you knew would suck simply by his name, it’s Elmer Dessens.
June 29th, 20098:28 pm
RG, I just meant that the mind that could conceive of the two consecutive hitters that you mentioned, well, that’s scary good.
How’s that for tap-dancing? Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, I’ll be here all week.
June 29th, 20098:29 pm
Roman Gal,well I’m not quite that old but believe it or not, a lot of similarity to how I was raised in your video, lol.
N8, Dye would be huge on this team. Dye has over twice as many HR’s as any Brave and is still decent defensively. I’d rather have him than Dunn anyday. I’d love to throw Yunel in the deal and get back Alexei Ramirez, but the Sox love the kid and that’s not gonna happen. Yunel and Ozzie Guillen would be perfect for each other.
June 29th, 20098:31 pm
I have a feeling McFann fights dirty when it comes to defending her mann- and she might have an allie in me if you keep that up
By the way- any idea when they turned your new favorite player into a catcher? Looking at his college bio he was a 1st & 3rd baseman, a DH and he even pitched a little but it doesn’t mention catcher… (and just an FYI he was born in South Africa but it appears he grew up in Coral Springs.
I just meant that the mind that could conceive of the two consecutive hitters that you mentioned, well, that’s scary good.
Ok, I might’ve believed you, except you followed that little snippet with this:
How’s that for tap-dancing?
That’s ok…I’ve got my eye on you, mister.
June 29th, 20098:32 pm
ncscoots, Riaan Spanjer-Furstenberg. Do you even know how to pronounce that?
I think as soon as we pass fish and muts in the standings………. this team will start playing different……..it is hard to play like a winner if you are 4th in the standings…………it is in your head…………feeling they are the top will help, and that is not a hard task………we can get into 2nd place as soon as this weekend.
June 29th, 20098:33 pm
Can I just ask….how did Riaan Spanjer-Furstenberg start to get discussed on the blog?
Well, now that I’m on a kick about the kid, how do I pronounce his name? Is it SPAHN-yer, SPAYN-ger? I’ve forgotten any nuances of the dialect that I might once have known, LOL.
Steve from OH
June 29th, 20098:34 pm
N8, Dye would be huge on this team.
Not in exchange for JV. You’d be going backwards in win value.
and just an FYI he was born in South Africa but it appears he grew up in Coral Springs.
Meh…But he was born in SOUTH AFRICA!?
any idea when they turned your new favorite player into a catcher?
Well, he’s just so good at every position they have to work him in at all of them.
June 29th, 20098:35 pm
I didn’t know old men in loafers and slacks could tap-dance. Can you moonwalk, too?
Jman, I’m not denying the impact Dye would have on the lineup (barring an adjustment to NL pitching), especially just the cause/effect of him replacing Francoeur.
But 3 way trades are tough to do, and obviously the White Sox aren’t taking Vazquez back anytime soon. If Dye was on any other team, I’d be more inclined to actually believe it might be possible.
I’m thinking more along the lines of younger players, that might help this year, but surely would do so next year or beyond.
We’ve got a true commodity in Vazquez and trading him for the RIGHT pieces migh mean the difference in making the playoffs for years to come, or at least being in real contention to do so.
Of course, we could trade him for a complete bust, while Vazquez helps a tema win the WS, and signs an extension that has him pitching well for 3-4 years, too!
So far in every trade that Wren has traded away a proven veteran, he has gotten good players in return. When you’ve got something people want, it’s just a matter of picking the best deal out there, and assessing which one is a “fit” and which one allows you to be set up for other moves.
If we’re out of it, Wren is in the driver’s seat come July 31st.
Steve from OH… how many wins has Vazquez gotten lately? We have no hitting. How can you even consider Vazquez and “win value” in the same sentence? Dont hit, cant win… Vazquez is a part of the deepest aspect of this team. He has to be included in any deal for a difference making hitter… which Dye would be.
June 29th, 20098:37 pm
I didn’t know old men in loafers and slacks could tap-dance. Can you moonwalk, too?
I have to admit, today is the closest I’ve come to using a smiley-face. It’s a good thing I have better self-control than your typical, run-of-the-mill college student.
June 29th, 20098:38 pm
SPAHN-yer and Blaine and pray for rain. Nah…
The only way Wren should even consider trading for Dye is if the Braves are still in it. If not, then deal Vazquez for 2 top prospects and another high level kid. If Dye is truly all that is needed to get the Braves into the playoffs this season then by all means do it. I’d love to see Lowe, Jurjjans, Kawakami, and Hanson in a short series against anyone! BUT ONLY if the Braves are within 4 games at the deadline.
Since when is a pitcher’s win-loss record any indication of how good he is? Do people still really believe this?
June 29th, 20098:39 pm
You know that I now picture you with curly hair, singing and dancing your way through the berry bushes.
June 29th, 20098:41 pm
Bet your last prospect-hug, bubba. Dude, I grew up in the South, less than a hour from the birthplace of beach music. If you couldn’t dance, your legs weren’t the only part of your body to fall into disuse.
I might be a little older than you young bucks, but, I make up for it with smooth, LOL.
June 29th, 20098:42 pm
Steve from Oh the point is simply this… Vazquez cant get a win b/c he cant get run support… neither can Jurjjans. You simply cannot hold on to a piece of the deepest, best part of your team when you have 2 guys who can step in to replace him PLUS get a bonified, RH power bat to help the offense. It’s as simple as 2+2=4…
