I think the Braves need to work on re-structuring VAZQUEZ’s contract (add a year or two and make the money less per year) that way we have another two million or so to play with for an outfielder….then trade for a POWER bat in the outfield (THIS YEAR)
Vazquez is a horse and I’d like to see him stay
Oh yeah, there just had to be. A hitter like BMac doesn’t look that bad at the plate unless something’s up…at least that’s the way my sometimes-overreactive self has always felt…
Any player trying to play through the flu is not going to have a good time, but yeah, with ten pounds of gear on? Ugh…
That is pretty funny…wonder what kind of car BMac has these days…
June 26th, 20096:37 pm
Apparently this season is lost (even though we are 4 games back with 90 left), we are trading everyone except Mac for prospects, running the Gwinnett team out as the Major league Braves, firing Frank Wren, Roger McDowell, Terry Pendleton and/or Bobby Cox dependng on the day, oh, and according to Robert, Cox is the single worst manager of all time and should have been fired in 1993. So no, unless Mac learns how to play all 9 positions, we don’t have any players left. (I guess not much has changed since you wandered off to your summer abode…and just out of curiosity, Bear? Legit? Seemed to be…) How long you back for?
Steve from OH
Efrim, I think I heard that those are two that Milwaukee wouldn’t part with. MLBTRADERUMORS.COM.
Then why should we do the deal?
June 26th, 20096:38 pm
Steve, didn’t you know, McLouth is “only” under our control for another 2-3 years after this one. Totally a rental!
Sorry, missed the Bear response while I was typing that- he passed on all your greetings and such- enjoyed talking to him
Oh yeah, I got your greeting from you friend! Thanks! Hi to you, too!
unless Mac learns how to play all 9 positions
If anybody can do it, Brian McCann can.
haha, that sounds funny. McCann can.
June 26th, 20096:39 pm
Well, a bad Friday night would be to watch Mr.Knock Knees Beckett spin another gem at us…a good one would be to knock Mr.Knock Knees out by the 3rd/4th inning. I can talk smack about Beckett because he has a bad attitude and thinks he’s God’s gift to pitchers.
June 26th, 20096:40 pm
I know what you are saying. It’s just that so many on here so optimistic that they are so very unrealistic. I hate to admit it, but the Mets fans are right…in the coming weeks they will have the best acquisitions of any team in baseball–from the DL. When you look at over-all team performances, the Braves are still more than 1 trade away from competing.
Hey, McFann— “You have to keep in mind, like Chipper supposedly said in a radio interview, teams are gonna continue to pitch around him until McCann and Anderson start hitting. (I wish this Blog had a “puke” emoticon.)”
Where did you get this from? I can’t believe that Chipper would have said that. Not in a million years. He must have been misquoted.
Smoltz still does his thing shagging balls in the outfield during batting practice. He’s out in left-center, in a fielding position, about 30 feet in front of the Cy Young’s picture on that outfield-wall mural of players from the different eras of the franchise. (Did you who’ve not been to Turner Field in the past couple years know Cy Young pitched for the Boston Rustlers? Did you know there was such a thing as the Boston Rustlers in the lineage of this franchise? Well, there was.)
June 26th, 20096:41 pm
Bingo, Steve. If Vazquez is getting traded, some GM is paying dearly in prospects/young players…..or at least a valuable piece that can contribute next year.
OK, Tom O, here’s the translation I got:
Now permits you through the increase or the deletion and dragging and dropping, as well as “applies or gives up” having the content window to have custom-made the personalized home page. Moreover, you may add your bookmark and weather information, to divine by astrology by
June 26th, 20096:44 pm
I got that from rob in sc. I can’t believe he would say that, either.
Jason and I deduced that it might have been a rerun of an interview–like, maybe it was from back when McCann was having vision problems. That is the ONLY WAY it would make sense…
Even so, I’m not really that high on A. Escobar, Efrim. Love Gamel, but as of yet he really doesn’t have a position and I’m not sold that Escobar will ever hit for enough power in the bigs. Though if his glove is as good as advertised he’ll be a good player. If we could get the two of them, deal Y. Escobar for a big package, and maybe use Gamel in a corner OF spot or 1B? Then yes, those are moves I probably make.
June 26th, 20096:45 pm
I agree totally…
I myself just do not see how Corey Hart would make this team any better…
Jermaine Dye on the other hand…but the Chi Sox have expressed that they are not sellers AND there’s that whole money issue that keeps biting the Braves in the face…
June 26th, 20096:46 pm
Dang…Grove seems to be finding a groove–another homer today. He’s got 7 now.
Thank the Lord for small miracles! Prado is starting!!!
rob from SC (Yunel Escobar's Muscle)
June 26th, 20096:48 pm
I heard them talking about it on the Bill Shanks show. It was from yesterday’s Jim Rome show. they didn’t hear the whole interview but did hear him say that
I hear ya, man. We’re on the same page now.
That’s damn right. Vasquez should net us some VERY good prospects, or a VERY big bat, or maybe even one of each, if Wren trades him.
McFann– That’s amazing. Where do you find these sites? I started out, just for a laugh, to find some Japanese that actually made sense, in case Mitchie-san was looking in . I wasn’t coming up with much, but I did find some Chinese (I think), so I used that. I’m just glad it wasn’t from some Asian porn site.
June 26th, 20096:50 pm
Steve, yeah, I see your point. Neither are slam dunks because of Escobar’s bat and Gamel’s lack of a position. But they are still pretty damn good prospects that would be worth the trade(personally never worry about blocking a certain guy or whatever, just try and get the best value for the player). That said, I don’t want the Braves trading Vazquez this season. Just makes no sense to me.
DO ANYONE NO WHAT THE LINEUP IS FOR TONITE
June 26th, 20096:51 pm
Actually, if I knew it was going to be translated, I would have copied the whole thing.
B-Macc Needs 2 Grow His Jake Plummer Beard Back…He has been Garbage Since He wacked It Off…
I have never seen you mad at him…But Man This has been a week of horrors for Him…
And Hoss Needs To Step It up…”Our Self-Proclaimed Leader” Hasn’t Done Shyt the Last 2 weeks but hit singles and play lackluster defense…
June 26th, 20096:52 pm
Well, that’s a heck of a lineup to have to send out there against Beckett…without 2 of our top 3 hitters…
June 26th, 20096:53 pm
“Jason and I deduced that it might have been a rerun of an interview–like, maybe it was from back when McCann was having vision problems.”
Yeah, that makes more sense, or when BMac wasn’t regularly batting in the 4th hole.
June 26th, 20096:54 pm
If the Braves lose, “It’s all good, I’ve got Mogi. Free rental car and dinner with my girl at seven…”
What Is The Over/Under Number For Joe Simpson taking Cheap Shots At Esco Tonight…?
I’m going with 2
He’d Better Be careful or Esco will Pull a Deion-esque type stunt on him in the lockerroom…It is Hot outside BTW…!
B12, no idea about lineup. Apparently it’s been posted in invisible typeface on the blog several times.
June 26th, 20096:55 pm
MY BAD I SEE IT NOW.WHAT A LINEUP.LOL
June 26th, 20096:57 pm
For the member that suggested that Escobar should make the All Star team, here is why he probably won’t.. While his numbers stack up to every other NL SS, he is to dramatic, and to much of a whiner..
I like Escobar, and I like what he brings to this team, I just think he needs to grow up.. That is why pitchers throw at him often.. That is why Joe Simpson talks down on him during the games like he did last night.. Plain and simple, he needs to grow up..
June 26th, 20096:58 pm
For Some Reason I think Esco’s and Prado Nagging Injuries are gonna Resemble Kenny Lofton’s Injury of 1997….After K. Lofton suffered that injury that year he was able to play most games but he couldn’t play at 100 percent…
We Need another Bat NOW!!!
June 26th, 20096:59 pm
Braves are going to be the Sox for my B-day today…man, I am getting old!
Ahhh…there’s the DOB we all know and love.
Bad sign right there…………Yunel out of the lineup while Beckett is pitching…….I think this hip flexor thing is getting out of hand, this guy might end up DLed as soon as Infante is back.
June 26th, 20097:00 pm
Whats the speculation on smoltzy’s presser, DOB?
June 26th, 20097:01 pm
ESCO Will Not Make The All-Star Team, “Bank On It!” He’s Probably 2 years away…
Esco has decent numbers but he plays on a team that is below .500 and has Chipper and B-Macc getting the Press from BSPN…
Vazquez And Lowe Should be on it but the Piss-Poor Awfense Has prevented them from having good win totals, and that is what Naive fans look at when they do the voting online…
June 26th, 20097:02 pm
LAdy, yeah, Ed’s a good friend. He’s going through a rough patch right now. He’s house sitting for me when I’m gone. It helps both of us. He checks out the blog, from time to time. He reads more than he posts. Years ago, when we met, we found it kind of odd, to grow up in NYS and both be fans of the Braves and Packers. (Maybe I shouldn’t have told you that.)
I’ll be here, at least, through Monday. I have a lot of yard work to do, and if it keeps on raining, it won’t get done too fast.
June 26th, 20097:03 pm
rob from sc–
Do you know where I cann get the audio clip of Chipper’s interview?
Tom O I’m just glad it wasn’t from some Asian porn site.
That would’ve been my luck.
McCann’s pretty much been batting 4th all season–40 starts at cleanup, 9 starts batting fifth.
Yeah, he needs the full beard–he looks good with the full beard!
I feel bad about being mad at him, now–since wasn’t feeling good last night and all…but hey, I was frustrated! I was also just kinda “freaked out”, for lack of a better phrase, because I didn’t know what was wrong with him…
oops…that was supposed to be they are going to beat the Sox…
June 26th, 20097:04 pm
If the Hip thing Continues with Esco…It might be a good idea to DL Him just before the All-Star break…Therefore he won’t miss that many games with the break and all…We are Gonna Need His Crunk A..s healthy 90% during the Stretch if the braves are gonna compete instead of playing with our emotions…
June 26th, 20097:06 pm
It’s probably been noted here, but if not: Jason Heyward was the lone Brave prospect selected to play in the July 12 Futures Game, two days before the All-Star Game in St. Louis.
June 26th, 20097:07 pm
Every braves Fan is frustrated…Especially knowing the fact that the Mets Keep winning despite Putting a AAA team on the field now…That team however has played with heart, it reminds me of the 2005 Summer Braves
I’m So P’d At this team Right Now for playing with my emotions after the 1st 2 games of this homestand….
June 26th, 20097:08 pm
Bear actually shared that- I was questioning if he was legit and he was letting me know that, yes, you were friends (he also said he was grateful he didn’t have to bunk with mom )- I just hope he passed on my message about the mullett Oh, and is it wrong that I hope it keeps raining?
June 26th, 20097:09 pm
We should be right up there with the marlins…………..f——–ing umpires.
Esco not in line up tonight.
Chipper Jones deserves All-Star consideration?
Oh, maybe it’s his stellar defensive play. Only 12 errore.
He misplays grounders so often he should be called
June 26th, 20097:10 pm
Big mac not in line up
Agree with ya.
Tom O – sorry to ignore you – preparing dinner (crab legs), transitioning from vodka to beer, and e-mailing an old (well, maybe not-so-old) friend of mine in California.
Critical 1st game of the series for the braves we gotta stop the bleeding Now! We Need To get the Momentum back especially for the Phillies series…With good momentum we can sweep them cats…
I got That Jose Cuervo On Deck for this Weekend…If we play this weekend like we did Wednesday and Yesterday I’m gonna Lose It
June 26th, 20097:11 pm
Esco not in line up tonight
Thanks for the inside scoop.
If we couldn’t hit Beckett WITH Yunel and McCann and a DH, imagine what it’s going to be like without. They’ll probably give us 2 losses.
“You actually saw the posted lineup, a long time ago. However, your subconscious put you into the state of “denial”. — Dr. Frasier Crane
June 26th, 20097:12 pm
I despise the Braves.
I hope they lose and lose badly.
So badly that their women weep and their livestock run away.
So badly that Bobby Cox has no choice but to leave.
Thanks man. Who’s the manager?
Red Sox lineup tonight has three former Braves:
1. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
2. J.D. DREW, RF
3. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
4. Jason Bay, LF
5. David Ortiz, 1B
6. Jason Varitek, C
7. MARK KOTSAY, CF
8. NICK GREEN, SS
9. Josh Beckett, RH
The Umpiring Has Been Bad All season, Leaguewide…Don’t These Guys get Audited Or something By Dud Selig and his Posse…?
I’m calling 2 F’d Up calls tonight…And I mean the blatant F’d up calls, not the calls that go either way…
June 26th, 20097:14 pm
The Braves should be disbanded and sold for scrap.
Whiny Braves Fan
June 26th, 20097:15 pm
The Braves would be doing great except for the stinky umpires.
The umpires are out to get them, I tell you. It’s a conspiracy.
What’s this, four, five days in a row of PTV games? What have we done to deserve so much Chip Caray?
Beckett has allowed 12 runs in his last 34IP.
He is coming to a pitchers park against a weak offense with 2 of its best 4 hitter sitting down………….this has shutdown written all over it.
June 26th, 20097:17 pm
DOB would Medlen and Freeman get Adrian Gonzalez in your opinion?
I am burning an effigy of chipper jones on my barbecue grill.
May the voodoo spirits condemn him to mediocrity the rest of this year.
And plenty of aches and pains.
Beckett has only lost 1 games in the last 2 months………..
June 26th, 20097:18 pm
Are we going to trade for Milton Bradley
June 26th, 20097:19 pm
Line up on front page AJC.COM sports
“What have we done to deserve so much Chip Caray?”
The baseball team stinks so the announcers should stink too.
he was dying to know how I knew about that (and does that mean “yes”?)
June 26th, 20097:20 pm
Ain’t it the truth…
Esco not in line up tonight. – Justafan
He’s been playing hurt since ….forever. Has had a bad hip.
Yet, has been one of the very few to suck it up and get after it anyway.
Milton Bradley would be a good fit for the Braves.
Maybe he would knock Bobby Cox into the old folks home where he belongs.
June 26th, 20097:21 pm
I think Adrian Gonzalez is to the Padres what Brian McCann to the Braves.
June 26th, 20097:22 pm
How did nick green got to boston?
Well for the right guys I would trade McCann too, lol. A.G. makes 3 mil+ and more next year, don’t think Padres are going to keep paying him if they can help it.
Question: Who got hammered Tuesday night, and found at 6 a.m. Wednesday morning passed out in his car?
June 26th, 20097:23 pm
Mixxo, I agree 100%. Hope chip and Joe shut up tonight about Esco.
dont understand all the joe simpson haters… he’s calling out Escobar because Escobar is an over-emotional, baseball IQ-lacking, decent player who has the pontential to be great. Someone in the clubhouse should kick his butt to wake him up… Since no one has, Joe will do it on air…
June 26th, 20097:24 pm
“Who got hammered Tuesday night, and found at 6 a.m. Wednesday morning passed out in his car?”
It had to have been Bobby Cox.
June 26th, 20097:27 pm
The entire Braves are lacking in baseball IQ.
But that is natural since their manager has the IQ of a donkey.
Jim— I was just gonna ask you if you were in for the night. My next question was, if the first was “yes”, is what is the beverage du jour? You answered before I could ask. Replying an e-mail, huh? Sure, reply to a woman, the hell with your guy friends. We don’t count. (Gee, where did I hear that before?)
cabravesfan— I called last night, but Bear wasn’t here. I left him a message that I’d be home this evening (scram!). We haven’t talked since the night I told him to say hi to you guys. Now that I know you were discussing my old mullet, which is growing as we speak, I may have to check out those old posts. Was that Tuesday? Yeah, it must have been, because Ed is off on Wednesday. He’d be up late that night.
What good does that do Esco to cut him down to Fans….Get a life J-man. That’s cheap on Joe’s part, he don’t do that with JF, KJ and other BC favorites.
June 26th, 20097:28 pm
OMG – I just saw where SOMEONE traded SOMEONE for CORKY MILLER
Medlen and Freeman? really?
June 26th, 20097:29 pm
3 mil for a player of Gonzalez’s caliber is nothing. They’re not going to find better value. He’s Mark Teixeira but only batting from the left side. Great defense, great offense, and cheap. He’s a GM’s dream.
Why does the city of Atlanta just sit their and allow their baseball team to be managed by a vulgar, disgusting, pinhead.
No, it wasn’t Bobby Cox. The question has already been answered elsewhere on the blog in carefully coded language
It might serve as a tool to WAKE HIS A$$ UP. He’s clearly playing poorly and his head is not into the game defensively
June 26th, 20097:31 pm
man more Chip…..uhg….who is he gonna verbally jerk off tonight?
The Reds got Corky.
jman-there’s a time and place for everything and Joe and Radio is not the place.
Justafan… Nice to know I need to get a life just because YOU disagree with what I said about an overrated baseball player. Joe does get after Francoeur all the time. KJ too. Escobar is killing this team on defense. KILLING them! And for him to still have this ridiculous attitude is flat sickening. And if anyone out there thinks that Bobby Cox doesnt have baseball IQ you are an idiot. The only problem with Bobby Cox is his loyalty. He plays certain guys too much… KJ, JF, etc…
Tom – maybe it was a woman you would consider worth responding to immediately.
he also mentioned a full beard…and that he knows “everything”
June 26th, 20097:32 pm
Braveheart, my guess is…Braveheart?
LAdy, = you wanting it too keep raining.
June 26th, 20097:34 pm
Packerman that price is going up …. Pads don’t keep them and neither do the Pirates. No one thought McClouth would be traded either – wrong. ANYONE can be traded.
I’m hoping the longer it rains, the longer you’ll be stuck in civilization with the rest of us
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
