Thank you, for mentioning Frenchy's progress except for last night's display (but it went according to his history against Beckett) he's been doing well and has even had some hits stolen from him.

jmart1951, right. Cox's players made him. Kind of like Terry Francona didn't know how to manage in Philly but he's a genius in Boston. Guess what? All managers need great players to win.

Let's be clear, the best managers don't make much of a difference. But if you trust just a little bit all the GMs, other managers, players, front office folks, scouts, the media; you have to believe Cox is/was one of the best managers ever. It's difficult if not impossible to quantify a managers contributions. It's one of those things where you have to go by the overwhelming evidence of Cox's reputation among virtually everyone in the game.

Francouer may be coming around a little bit. Still no power, but he hasn't been doing too bad since June 11. His stats are slowly climbing. Let's hope he doesn't go into a slump again.

cbraves:

Of course when Bobby retires we will look at more losing seasons than he ever had.

Because we will not have 3 Hall of Fame / Cy Young starters in the rotation. How many times in baseball history has that happened. Ted Turner made Bobby Cox because he went out and bought Maddox.

Lowe gave up 7 runs to the worst team in the AL.

Gave up 8 runs to a Yankees team that was struggling offensively and had been shut out 12 straight innings by our starters/closers....no reason your ace shouldn't be able to continue that trend.

Not an outlier, but a HUGE cause for concern with the amount of money we paid him. He isn't the ace on this team. Could be debated that he is the 4th best pitcher on the team.

jmart1951, the things that give you an advantage in the playoffs: a high strikeout pitching staff, a good defense and a great reliever. If you want to place the blame anywhere, place it in the front office for not building this kind of team. But I would argue if they had made a conscious effort to build that kind of team, they wouldn't have acquired the players that made them a great team overall.
