im sure this has been asked a thousand times so i first want to apologize for this question before hand:
could anyone please give me a quick summary on how the UZR ratings work? is this one where they break down the field into sections and give each position a section?
i know there is more to that but it is simply balls that you should get to and dont? and then divide the number of balls total to the balls a player actually gets to?
Brave4life, I don’t know about that. He has been a little off. I just think the umps are not consistently giving him the low strike. He is useless without the low strike call. It forces the batters to swing the bats.
Hopefully this is just a June swoon for Lowe. If we don’t have pitching we don’t have a chance. Lowe has got to do better. Our fielding has got to be better. Need some better at bats next series from Mac. Keep this lineup. The whole infield outside of Prado who really didn’t play that much this series has sucked in the field but you can’t bench them all because that takes what little offense we have. Prado should be starting for this homestand at least. Give KJ a mental break, not one day off a week at least. We cost ourselves a series once again.
Long time Braves fan, as good as JJ has been, and with the upside he has, he will not be ATL’s Ace in the future. Hanson will grab that torch and run. Hanson has the out pitches, plus he has that “IT” thing. You know, something you see, but just can’t explain.
Too little to late. Mac gets a homerun late and the ump expands the strike zone later. If he had done that earlier, this game probably would have been over by now.
Seriously though, Right now my starters would go Vasquez, JJ, Hanson, Lowe, KK. Medlen is good young talent. ATL needs to decide rotation or BP. Then they need to send him back to the minors for a full season of one or the other. The only thing Medlen is missing is the demeanor and confidence of Hanson. That is going to be tough when you don’t have the repitore of a Hanson.
I just don’t see the difference a 34 year old DeRosa could make for this team. StevefromOH could tell you better, but with the defense JF plays partly off setting the offense of DeRosa would provide, it just wouldn’t be much of a difference. Better hitter, but not much but less defense = only a minimal gain.
Like you said, so many teams seem to be interested. The Marlins down here in S FL claim to want him at 3B, but they don’t have the pitching to offer.
Will be interesting to see how Bobby spends this one.
Gotta love the Yankee fans. Nice to see what a billion dollars can buy you. No wins against your hated foe the Red Sox and 4 games back in June to them at that. The premier franchise in that division right now is the Sox. Can’t stand the team but its the truth. Rays are up and coming and the Blue Jays aren’t going anywhere. Billion dollars well spent if you ask me. Go Yankees.
And be sure and send our thanks to Heap for that meaningless bases empty HR after looking like the poor man’s Jeff Francoeur when he was up with the bases loaded and nobody out when we were only down by 2.
Oh LOL Diory Hernandez vs Mo Rivera. Gee, wonder how this will turn out?
man more bonehead crap from ol cox…..why the hell not put someone in there that can hit either Ross or KJ even…….diory has got no bat…….it’s a moot point anyway…….lame ass braves
Tough to send a kid like D Hernandez up against Mo. Seems unfair. Maybe he should have to throw left-handed in those situations where the hitter is hitting less than his weight.
The Yankees are 4 back of the RS but they are a good team…we are 4 back and we suck? Let’s face it they stink as much as we do….I mean we did score 7 runs off them…lol
keylargo, Jeff is a -.5 WAR (offense and defense combined, offense according to wOBA and defense to UZR) and DeRosa is a 1.0. So a net 1.5 win gain for DeRosa thus far thru the season, a 3-4.5 win gain (depending on how far into the season we are, not gonna do that math right now) over the entire course of the season. WAR is “wins above replacement,” so a replacement player would be worth half a win more than Jeff up to this point in the season. If Cleveland played a replacement player instead of DeRo, they’d lose a win thus far.
If you wanna ask those types of questions, Braveheart is your man btw. I’m really not as big a “stathead” as many here think. I prefer reason and logic, but to each his own…
