the hope of the braves nation rests in your hands mr hanson
June 25th, 200910:44 pm
im sure this has been asked a thousand times so i first want to apologize for this question before hand:
could anyone please give me a quick summary on how the UZR ratings work? is this one where they break down the field into sections and give each position a section?
i know there is more to that but it is simply balls that you should get to and dont? and then divide the number of balls total to the balls a player actually gets to?
thank you guys!

Brave4life, I don’t know about that. He has been a little off. I just think the umps are not consistently giving him the low strike. He is useless without the low strike call. It forces the batters to swing the bats.
CT in AL
Yeah Chip and Joe, JOSH Bard has a freakin’ cannon. He has a great future as a backup catcher
Hopefully this is just a June swoon for Lowe. If we don’t have pitching we don’t have a chance. Lowe has got to do better. Our fielding has got to be better. Need some better at bats next series from Mac. Keep this lineup. The whole infield outside of Prado who really didn’t play that much this series has sucked in the field but you can’t bench them all because that takes what little offense we have. Prado should be starting for this homestand at least. Give KJ a mental break, not one day off a week at least. We cost ourselves a series once again.
Wayne in Utah,
I also think trading Kris would be a HUGE HUGE mistake. Id rather trade Lowe than him.
Wayne, I hope we keep Medlen. The kids got good stuff and big motor. Just needs to settle down and that will come.
June 25th, 200910:46 pm
I think Mac just needed to see this guy again
Yep, Mac is tired, take him out…….
One pressbox wag just noted that that was Andruw Jones-like, that homer in the late innings of a blowout.
Man…if we would have just gotten that earlier in the game…
Wow, if it was still NY 8, this would be a good rally in the 9th
Now THAT is padding your stats…where was that with MEN actually ON BASE……Mac BETTER NOT be turning into Frenchy..I will lose it……!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH
McFann gets pessimistic and look what happens…
That’s a new homerun song! What is it? They’ve been beating Montgomery Gentry to death for years, that’s good to see.
Way too late for that Mac.
June 25th, 200910:47 pm
That’s also called a Tex HR.
Long time Braves fan, as good as JJ has been, and with the upside he has, he will not be ATL’s Ace in the future. Hanson will grab that torch and run. Hanson has the out pitches, plus he has that “IT” thing. You know, something you see, but just can’t explain.
I’d like an Escobar hitting 5th, a Prado hitting 5th, and a Johnson shone the door.
June 25th, 200910:48 pm
Dave O Brien,
Put a crap pie in his face, please.
damn I meant Prado hitting 2nd…trying to watch and type at the same time sucks
Huh…so now you hit a home run…no one on, 11-6…
7-11=anything can happen.
Only if he did the with the bases loaded
June 25th, 200910:49 pm
Only down by 4
This loss is squarely on D Lowe’s shoulders. Thanks “ace”.
Too little to late. Mac gets a homerun late and the ump expands the strike zone later. If he had done that earlier, this game probably would have been over by now.
man 5 runs…..????
June 25th, 200910:50 pm
I’m interested in the JF AB. Would like to see more proof that he might be figuring something out.
When the bring iin MO we are dead
At least we have the right pitchers going against Boston.
oh were gonna do this!!! hahaha
June 25th, 200910:51 pm
Loved Lowe against the Bosox, but he blew it,
This loss is squarely on D Lowe’s shoulders. Thanks “ace”. – Unknown
I greatly disagree Unknown, Joe Simpson has persuaded me that every loss is Yunel Escobar’s fault
Except for Medlin giving up a 2 run double, Moylen giving up a 2 run single and Acosta giving up a 1 run single, we’d be up 7 – 6.
McCann………..you sure are an atlanta brave………..you get your hit when it matters the least.
about 3hrs 45 mins. Umps getting tired.
Long time Braves fan
Wow, is the umpire ready to go home. I know its been a 4 hr game.
Jeff has NOT changed.
GRAND SLAM TIES IT
JF hasn’t figured out nothing
June 25th, 200910:52 pm
JF is one the worst out there folks.
Seriously though, Right now my starters would go Vasquez, JJ, Hanson, Lowe, KK. Medlen is good young talent. ATL needs to decide rotation or BP. Then they need to send him back to the minors for a full season of one or the other. The only thing Medlen is missing is the demeanor and confidence of Hanson. That is going to be tough when you don’t have the repitore of a Hanson.
Looks at a FB right down the middle…..swings at one in the dirt.
The umps screwed us again.
This is just sickening.
doesnt show much. nasty pitches on jeff
roja, yeah your right. we almost had a chance if it wasnt for those mistakes
We have to face BECKKKET tomorrow
June 25th, 200910:53 pm
We can also blame the defense today, 3 errors
June 25th, 200910:54 pm
I love it when our “last chance” in the 9th has an .059 BA
wow let David Ross bat please!!!!!! not diory!!!!
3 games out of 3rd place, looks like we will be comfortably in 4th place the rest of the season.
yeap. Beckett tomorrow.
.. not this again.
Welcome to the bigs Diory…meet Mr. Rivera.
Chip didn’t see that the ball was deflected by the pitcher.
I fear that Chip is nearly blind.
Late inning life
Wow, yankees fear the braves offense so much that they bring in MO for 1 out. lol
June 25th, 200910:55 pm
It was a joke, bigmacattack.
Diorys can’t even get a hit off of a regular pitcher
bigmacattack, Agree, they didn’t help us , but they are not the reason for this mess of a season.
Mo really mowed us down lat night 4 batters 4 K’s
Hear we go Brave4ever. There mgr takes no chances.
did chip slipped a Jeret compliment in there? “nothing wrong with his range, just had a lot of spin on the ball”.. chip move to NY
I just don’t see the difference a 34 year old DeRosa could make for this team. StevefromOH could tell you better, but with the defense JF plays partly off setting the offense of DeRosa would provide, it just wouldn’t be much of a difference. Better hitter, but not much but less defense = only a minimal gain.
Like you said, so many teams seem to be interested. The Marlins down here in S FL claim to want him at 3B, but they don’t have the pitching to offer.
Trade Kotchman for a quality defensive SS, move Yunel to 3B, and move Chipper to 1B.
WTF kinda chit is that?
June 25th, 200910:56 pm
Would it kill to have D Ross ph…and bring in KJ…..?
Will be interesting to see how Bobby spends this one.
Gotta love the Yankee fans. Nice to see what a billion dollars can buy you. No wins against your hated foe the Red Sox and 4 games back in June to them at that. The premier franchise in that division right now is the Sox. Can’t stand the team but its the truth. Rays are up and coming and the Blue Jays aren’t going anywhere. Billion dollars well spent if you ask me. Go Yankees.
The eyebrows block his view sometimes
one pitch one out, or fluke single up the middle for diory. sorry diory, dont mean to knock ya, but you are pretty weak.
If it was 0 outs i would be excited but 2 outs,,,,,,,,,,,
The defense lost us this game, not the umps.
I still haven’t been able to process that HR, BTW.
Apparently the Yankees thought the Braves crowd was having a little too much fun. So they’re bringing in Rivera. Talk about overkill.
Oh, well, at least the pain should end quickly now.
June 25th, 200910:57 pm
is it game yet
This is a save opportunity since the tying run is in the on deck circle.
I’d actually feel more comfortable with KJ batting
maaannnn…………….WHY NOT ROSS!!!!!??
our savior KJ is on the bench, he looked good against Mariano last night. 3 pitch strike out last night
Rivera against Hernandez…. yep, I’ve got a LOT of confidence now.
June 25th, 200910:58 pm
Gotta pad MO’s stats!!!
we need a miracle…
would love to see mo and chipper
And be sure and send our thanks to Heap for that meaningless bases empty HR after looking like the poor man’s Jeff Francoeur when he was up with the bases loaded and nobody out when we were only down by 2.
Oh LOL Diory Hernandez vs Mo Rivera. Gee, wonder how this will turn out?
June 25th, 200910:59 pm
the pain will go away soon, friends
That cutter is nasty
Probably the easiest “save” of Rivera’s career!! But it looks good in the stats.
keep fighting Diory…don’t crush my hopes…
Not a bad AB by Diory there. He looked okay.
June 25th, 200911:00 pm
Score 7…and lose. Head ache.
Well darn, I flipped my hat inside out and everything
At least he didn’t strike out
we’ll get ‘em tomorrow…that’s what I love about baseball.
man more bonehead crap from ol cox…..why the hell not put someone in there that can hit either Ross or KJ even…….diory has got no bat…….it’s a moot point anyway…….lame ass braves
Cheapest save of Mariano’s career — four-run lead and he retires one batter, Diory Hernandez.
Accd to Yahoo we had scouts looking at Jose Guillen this week. FYI
Wayne in Utah
Tough to send a kid like D Hernandez up against Mo. Seems unfair. Maybe he should have to throw left-handed in those situations where the hitter is hitting less than his weight.
Chalk it up to us being an average at best team.
Tomorrow is another day…..
June 25th, 200911:01 pm
The Yankees are 4 back of the RS but they are a good team…we are 4 back and we suck? Let’s face it they stink as much as we do….I mean we did score 7 runs off them…lol
(Why couldn’t you homer when it mattered? )
Steve from OH
keylargo, Jeff is a -.5 WAR (offense and defense combined, offense according to wOBA and defense to UZR) and DeRosa is a 1.0. So a net 1.5 win gain for DeRosa thus far thru the season, a 3-4.5 win gain (depending on how far into the season we are, not gonna do that math right now) over the entire course of the season. WAR is “wins above replacement,” so a replacement player would be worth half a win more than Jeff up to this point in the season. If Cleveland played a replacement player instead of DeRo, they’d lose a win thus far.
If you wanna ask those types of questions, Braveheart is your man btw. I’m really not as big a “stathead” as many here think. I prefer reason and logic, but to each his own…
