Excobar and Chipper would definitely start for the Twins. McLouth is a better hitter than their CF. KJ is better than anything they have at 2B (SHOCKER!). Look at the stats.

Tommy Hanson now has 1% of the eventual 300 wins he will get to put him in the hall of fame.

1% already!

Why aren’t the Braves making more of a big deal of this milestone event? Why not have a pre-game ceremony before tonights game?

Why not invite Randy Johnson, Tom Glavine and Nolan Ryan, among others, to come and say a few words: maybe talk about how Tommy’s hard work and dedication have got him this far along and how glory is all but inevitable.

Chipper Jones and Brian McCann’s are a dime a dozen. But Tommy Hansons are rare and priceless gems.

“And you can throw out all the ‘great’ stats some of the Braves have, SNAP. Then call up the Atlanta Braves’ starting pitchers and ask them how much ‘great’ stats mean in this game.”

Wes, if you aren’t going to argue with stats, then what are you using as your basis? I’m sorry. I agree that the Twins have a better team right now, but that comment made me come out of blogging obscurity. We should just believe your opinion!?

Chipper
McCann
Prado

Kotchman
Frenchy
Lowe

McCann does not DH over Kubel. Chipper does not play 3rd over Crede. Might suck for some brave fans to hear it: Chipper Jones is no longer an elite 3b. He’s a streaky, .300 singles hitter who already has 11 errors and has missed quite a bit of games.

No way Anderson plays in anyone in the league’s outfield. Gomez is out there. Have you not seen the man play the field?

If we’re switchin positions around:

1. McLouth- RF
2. Harris – SS (he’s not a 2b)
3. Mauer- C
4. Morneau- 1B
5. Kubel- DH
6. Crede- 3B
7. Span- LF
8. Punto- 2B
9. Gomez- CF

Chipper has 8 HR’s to Crede’s 10 but Crede is hitting .230 with a .309 OBP. You can’t really believe that Crede is better than Chipper can you? Crede is coming off major back surgery but you’re probably right, I’d take 2 extra HR’s for 70 points in BA and over 100 in OBP. Gimme a break.

McLouth gives up the BA and OBP to Span but beats him in every other category like slugging, HR, RBI. Span is a good player but McLouth is way better. It’s really not close either.

Escobar is so much better than anyone they could trot out there that it’s almost not worth a response. You would really take Harris or Punto over Escobar? And you want to make jokes about if I were running the team? If you ran it, you would have a bunch of gritty singles hitters with no pop who wouldn’t lose games for you but damn sure wouldn’t win them.

Seriously, if you like the Twins so much then go cheer for them. You don’t seem like much of a Braves fan. We haven’t even gotten into the pitching yet but I’d be glad to if you want.

” I wish we got to play against a team you ran every night. Might win a couple of games…I’ll ask for a 3rd time: Who does Chipper play over? Not Crede and not Kubel… You think they need a guy who hits .300 with no power and can’t field or throw?”

Crede: .236/.312/.454 12 XBH
Chipper: 300/.416/.490 12 XBH

So you’re saying the Twins are better off with a guy who can’t hit or get on base? Crede has the exact same number of XBH as Chipper, but lower slugging and an OBP over 100 points lower. Chipper would start over Crede.

Kubel is having a great season overall but can’t hit lefties to save his life.

If that’s the game we’er going to play, let’s put Yunel at 2B for the Twins! Are you going to argue that Punto is better than Yunel? Also, I still don’t understand your Chipper argument. Chipper is batting .300 with a .906 OPS, and Crede is batting .234 with a .780 OPS. That argument is ridiculous!

Wes, actually this is McCann’s fourth full year and he has played as long as Mauer has but who’s counting. Mauer is better defensively but McCann is pretty good. CorkylikesBeer, As disgusted as I was with McCann’s play last night there is no need for excuses. He sucked, the worst game probably of his young career. It happens, he will come back tonight or tomorrow and redeem himself. Could be worse, Frenchy and KJ seem to play like that on a regular basis/

If Harris is not a 2B then fine Prado can play it. He should be playing in Atlanta. I guess you don’t feel like getting into the pitching. Crede over Chipper is so stupid that I’m not even going to argue with you.

Wes

June 25th, 2009

No, winter, my point was that they don’t need a .300 hitting singles hitter who’s a liability in the field like Chipper is. Crede is gold glove caliber. Gold Glove Chipper ain’t. Crede’s also coming off of back surgery so he gets a little time to get his sh*t together

Interesting thoughts on Tommy Hanson from Ken Rosenthal’s blog today:

Interesting perspective from a scout on the Braves’ Hanson: “I like him. I don’t love him. His arm action is not going to work for very long. He’s a short-armer, a dart thrower. And he’s stiff-wristed. Watch his curveball. He really has to work to snap it. They will get two to three good years out of him right away. Then he might have some problems.”

I thought the same thing about him short arming the ball. Hopefully it won’t lead to problems.

“Chipper Jones is no longer an elite 3b. He’s a streaky, .300 singles hitter”

That’s just funny stuff. By this logic, Wright stinks, only has 4 homers, half of what chipper has, and OBP, and AVG account for nothing, nor SLG%.

Any who, here is the list of all qualified major league 3B by OPS

Longoria, Wright, Sandoval, Chipper, Inge

Crede ranks …. well he doesn’t rank … not enough at bats.

“[Chipper Jones] has missed quite a bit of games”

Crede: 55 games, 221 PA.
Chipper 62 games 255 PA

Thursday night’s Bobby Cox “I’m in a coma like Michael Jackson” moments:

1) Cox leaves Lowe in game way TOO long, treating top hurler like a $20 tomato can sparring partner vs. heavyweight contender. Yankee announcers wondering why Cox continues to let Lowe get embarrassed, even outs are rocket balls.
2) In comes Medlen top 4th, first-and-third nobody out. After two outs, escape without any more runns allowed looking possible maintaining 6-1 Yankees’ lead with Petite on deck. Might Cox remind 22-year-old rookie Medlen: walk Cody Ranson especially after it’s a 2-0 count, with Petite next? No….laser-beam gapper, 8-1 Yankees. Petite K’s on three pitches. Yankee snnounncers laugh, make fun of Cox, call it, “all the more confounding.”

3) Garret Anderson, making it the even 100th time this season that he won’t hustle, ends up on first after Jeter can hamdle pop-fly Texas Leaguer in bottom of the fourth. Both Yankees’ announcers call Garret a “great player, but he easily should be on 2B, really failed to hustle. Bobby Cox won’t stand for that.”
Bobby, still in coma, probably thinking of post-game stoogie, plus there’s some nice booger he needs to pick out of nose, and if someone reminds him of Garret’s no-hustle, will Hee-Haw some folksy aw-shucks lame excuse rather than admit washed-up bum Anderson should stop sulking about low salary and will be disciplined.

“Hey this is my country club, and I’m the social director,” will be all Cox will remind benign local media.

Your Thursday night Bobby Cox “I’m in a Michael Jackson coma moment.”
