Excobar and Chipper would definitely start for the Twins. McLouth is a better hitter than their CF. KJ is better than anything they have at 2B (SHOCKER!). Look at the stats.
Wayne in Utah
maybe you should change your screen name to “getsomeTwins”
that would make Wes happy!
How could I leave that out. He is the greatest player in the history of baseball.
June 25th, 20093:34 pm
Is Wes sneaking beer out of daddy’s fridge again?
Thanks, Supes. Like I said, he picked a bad day to mess with me…
Frank from KS
No, I’m not a sick person….I’m just like 90% of men in that I like seeing two lovely ladies together. LOL
I least I can opening admit it.
Tommy Hanson = Lord of the Mound
June 25th, 20093:35 pm
Tommy Hanson now has 1% of the eventual 300 wins he will get to put him in the hall of fame.
Why aren’t the Braves making more of a big deal of this milestone event? Why not have a pre-game ceremony before tonights game?
Why not invite Randy Johnson, Tom Glavine and Nolan Ryan, among others, to come and say a few words: maybe talk about how Tommy’s hard work and dedication have got him this far along and how glory is all but inevitable.
Chipper Jones and Brian McCann’s are a dime a dozen. But Tommy Hansons are rare and priceless gems.
American League, right?
“And you can throw out all the ‘great’ stats some of the Braves have, SNAP. Then call up the Atlanta Braves’ starting pitchers and ask them how much ‘great’ stats mean in this game.”
Wes, if you aren’t going to argue with stats, then what are you using as your basis? I’m sorry. I agree that the Twins have a better team right now, but that comment made me come out of blogging obscurity. We should just believe your opinion!?
OK cabravesfan, how bout a Chitterling (Chit’lin) Taco? Ever had one’a them?
Hey, Kentavo, couldn’t help but notice, as well, that Jason Heyward doesn’t show up on the Pelicans’ roster on their site today, for some reason, too.
Hopefully the lineup tonight will look like this.
June 25th, 20093:36 pm
McCann does not DH over Kubel. Chipper does not play 3rd over Crede. Might suck for some brave fans to hear it: Chipper Jones is no longer an elite 3b. He’s a streaky, .300 singles hitter who already has 11 errors and has missed quite a bit of games.
No way Anderson plays in anyone in the league’s outfield. Gomez is out there. Have you not seen the man play the field?
If we’re switchin positions around:
1. McLouth- RF
2. Harris – SS (he’s not a 2b)
3. Mauer- C
4. Morneau- 1B
5. Kubel- DH
6. Crede- 3B
7. Span- LF
8. Punto- 2B
9. Gomez- CF
Boonie..McCann..needs a day off..what do you think McFann
June 25th, 20093:38 pm
If the Braves were to “GET SOME TWINS” it would make a WHOLE lot of Braves fan’s happy
June 25th, 2009
Is Wes sneaking beer out of daddy’s fridge again?
I think he’s consuming something much more potent than beer lol
The Twins that I’d take for the Braves, Morneau, Denard Span, and Joe Nathan.
June 25th, 20093:40 pm
Maybe…even though he just had one on Sunday. Course, after colliding with cement, anybody could use a day off, I guess…
Wes, PUNTO IS NOT A 2B! He’s a SS. They have NOTHING at 2B.
Why y’all crackin’ on my name? lol
McCann needs to go to an American League team where he can catch a little, play a little first base, and be a designated hitter.
The Red Sox would be a good fit.
When is he a free agent?
June 25th, 20093:41 pm
Chipper has 8 HR’s to Crede’s 10 but Crede is hitting .230 with a .309 OBP. You can’t really believe that Crede is better than Chipper can you? Crede is coming off major back surgery but you’re probably right, I’d take 2 extra HR’s for 70 points in BA and over 100 in OBP. Gimme a break.
McLouth gives up the BA and OBP to Span but beats him in every other category like slugging, HR, RBI. Span is a good player but McLouth is way better. It’s really not close either.
Escobar is so much better than anyone they could trot out there that it’s almost not worth a response. You would really take Harris or Punto over Escobar? And you want to make jokes about if I were running the team? If you ran it, you would have a bunch of gritty singles hitters with no pop who wouldn’t lose games for you but damn sure wouldn’t win them.
Seriously, if you like the Twins so much then go cheer for them. You don’t seem like much of a Braves fan. We haven’t even gotten into the pitching yet but I’d be glad to if you want.
June 25th, 20093:42 pm
” I wish we got to play against a team you ran every night. Might win a couple of games…I’ll ask for a 3rd time: Who does Chipper play over? Not Crede and not Kubel… You think they need a guy who hits .300 with no power and can’t field or throw?”
Crede: .236/.312/.454 12 XBH
Chipper: 300/.416/.490 12 XBH
So you’re saying the Twins are better off with a guy who can’t hit or get on base? Crede has the exact same number of XBH as Chipper, but lower slugging and an OBP over 100 points lower. Chipper would start over Crede.
Kubel is having a great season overall but can’t hit lefties to save his life.
Prolly make alotta TWINS happy too Wes, to get out of that Gawd-awful tundra y’all call a state…
Why are y’all crackin’ on my name? lol
Where are the Hawks picking tonight?
Boonie, I could certainly see that line-up against the lefty, but chances are, KJ will still be in there tonight.
June 25th, 20093:44 pm
Pitching Braves vs Twins
Braves have the edge here. Twins have the edge at closer. Nathan is lights out in the 9th.
Can’t say that I have, but the stories…think I’ll pass thanks.
Why are we even comparing the Twins and the Braves? The Twins are 36-37. The Braves are 34-37…not like either is stellar right now.
Kj hits lefties better than righties
June 25th, 20093:45 pm
If that’s the game we’er going to play, let’s put Yunel at 2B for the Twins! Are you going to argue that Punto is better than Yunel? Also, I still don’t understand your Chipper argument. Chipper is batting .300 with a .906 OPS, and Crede is batting .234 with a .780 OPS. That argument is ridiculous!
DOB– Then change the title of the article. Don’t be so misleading. Among the best hitting catchers, yes. Among the best period, nope. Not by a long shot.
June 25th, 20093:46 pm
Andy Pettitte is a lefty? Crud…
Mcfann…have to realize the heat might be getting to McCann..it was 91 degrees with high humidity at first pitch last night
June 25th, 20093:47 pm
Hawks are picking 19th and might be looking and Wayne Ellington from NC.
Guess that’s true…yeah, it’s been disgusting here lately…
June 25th, 20093:48 pm
Hey Steve at 2:57, you said McCann and Mauer are “delicious”………….. good grief man, are you GAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 25th, 20093:50 pm
Its a sad day in braves land when one has to argue the potential merits of starting Chipper over Joe Crede. The more relevant question is – why are we getting Twins trolls on here when we are playing the Yankees?
mets just won. the NL east race has tightened right back up….
Robert (Chipper Is The Best)
Wes, actually this is McCann’s fourth full year and he has played as long as Mauer has but who’s counting. Mauer is better defensively but McCann is pretty good. He is not great but he is pretty good. Is McCann the best ever? Not yet but what DOB said was in his lifetime. Fisk and Bench are the best ever but by the time its all said and done Mauer AND McCann could be right there!

Kj hits lefties better than righties
Which is why it is really sad that Cox only sits him against leftys. He’s still a slave to the whole righty lefty matchup thing regardless of what the stats show. By the book, Bobby.
CorkylikesBeer, As disgusted as I was with McCann’s play last night there is no need for excuses. He sucked, the worst game probably of his young career. It happens, he will come back tonight or tomorrow and redeem himself. Could be worse, Frenchy and KJ seem to play like that on a regular basis/
June 25th, 20093:54 pm
Jeff Bennett on DL – broken hand – punched a door.
JDH: What’s the bet on where Punto plays? Harris beat him out at SS, just like he’d beat Yunel. Punto has played 2B for going on a month now. Let’s not write things without making sure first.
June 25th, 20093:56 pm
If Harris is not a 2B then fine Prado can play it. He should be playing in Atlanta. I guess you don’t feel like getting into the pitching. Crede over Chipper is so stupid that I’m not even going to argue with you.
No, winter, my point was that they don’t need a .300 hitting singles hitter who’s a liability in the field like Chipper is. Crede is gold glove caliber. Gold Glove Chipper ain’t. Crede’s also coming off of back surgery so he gets a little time to get his sh*t together
June 25th, 20093:57 pm
cabraves: and the sad thing about those records is that not a single starting Brave starts for the twins (except mcclouth but he’d have to switch spots)

Interesting thoughts on Tommy Hanson from Ken Rosenthal’s blog today:
Interesting perspective from a scout on the Braves’ Hanson: “I like him. I don’t love him. His arm action is not going to work for very long. He’s a short-armer, a dart thrower. And he’s stiff-wristed. Watch his curveball. He really has to work to snap it. They will get two to three good years out of him right away. Then he might have some problems.”
I thought the same thing about him short arming the ball. Hopefully it won’t lead to problems.
“Chipper Jones is no longer an elite 3b. He’s a streaky, .300 singles hitter”
That’s just funny stuff. By this logic, Wright stinks, only has 4 homers, half of what chipper has, and OBP, and AVG account for nothing, nor SLG%.
Any who, here is the list of all qualified major league 3B by OPS
Longoria, Wright, Sandoval, Chipper, Inge
Crede ranks …. well he doesn’t rank … not enough at bats.
“[Chipper Jones] has missed quite a bit of games”
Crede: 55 games, 221 PA.
Chipper 62 games 255 PA
June 25th, 20094:00 pm
Wes – No manager in MLB baseball starts Crede over Chipper. Just because you made a ridiculous statement doesn’t mean you have to keep defending it. Let it go.
TNV: If you don’t think Crede starts over Chipper you need to catch up to 2009. We’re not making a nostalgia team here. They need a glove at 3B. That, Crede has. Chipper does not.
BELIEVE me I would LOOOOOOVE if prado was healthy and could play. i’ve liked that kid since day #1. But, fact is: he’s NOT playing and KJ and Yunel don’t play over Harris and Punto/Casilla.
June 25th, 20094:02 pm
Again, tennesse, Wright is a Gold Glove 3B. There are two parts to baseball; not just what you read on the stat page in front of you.
Work day is finally over so I get to watch the Braves on the damn YES Network.
LET’S GO BRAVES!
Wes – Not one manager in MLB starts Crede over Chipper. Just because you made a ridiculous statement doesn’t mean you have to keep defending it. Let it go.
June 25th, 20094:03 pm
Oh, and to the “TWIN TROLL” guy. Check the name of the Blog you’re commenting on. Not too hard to see how we got on the Twins.
June 25th, 20094:05 pm
Your boy Crede made 20 errors last year.
June 25th, 20094:28 pm
DOB, i know its early, but any lineup out for tonight yet? Are we still giving a free inning away at the bottom?
June 25th, 20094:34 pm
O’Brien I caught your article on Bobby Cox. You are far from objective in your view of him. Perhaps it might be best if you just stopped writing about him. It would be better than embarrassing yourself with every new article or blog.
June 25th, 20095:32 pm
Great Breaking News! Bennett is out with a broken hand, too bad it wasnt his pitching hand! LMAO He should have punched out Bobby with it then we could have gotten a 2 for 1 Deal! Now Cox cant put him in to blow any more games, Damn it Oh wait we still have Acosta to throw bp to the enemy, guess he’ll be the new option to go to so we can still give some more wins away! Wake up Bobby, & quit pickin what are you diggin for! LOL GO BRAVOS!!!
June 25th, 20095:43 pm
I bet when Bennett hit the wall last night, he was high and outside with that too.
June 25th, 20095:57 pm
Nah – It was right down the middle Jeff
June 25th, 20096:01 pm
DMac – It was right on! How can you argue it?
Bobby’s style of managing in the 90’s was effective. He ahs lost a lot of his fire and it is clearly not working in’09
I applaud these columnist for tellign it like it is and not being “homers”
June 25th, 20097:33 pm
Yeah, Bench was the best, and as a lifelong Bravos fan, I always hated him and the Red Machine as they always kicked our butts. Carlton Fisk was good, too. Not in Bench’s league, but good. And then there was Earl Williams and Biff Pocoroba. And, of course, Murph.
June 25th, 20098:49 pm
I don’t see any of the bloggers who crucified Frak Wren for not giving John Smoltz 5 million bucks chatting tonight. Here we are June 25th and Smoltz is finally on a major league roster getting lit up a christmas tree.
June 25th, 200910:33 pm
I’m thinking they should start playing Looney Tunes music between innings
June 25th, 200910:34 pm
…and tuba music when Kotchman runs to first
June 25th, 200910:39 pm
How about move Chipper to first and get Josh Fields and Dye from the White Sox. Send Kotch to Pittsburgh for Sanchez. Chipper has to get off of 3rd soon,

Thursday night’s Bobby Cox “I’m in a coma like Michael Jackson” moments:
1) Cox leaves Lowe in game way TOO long, treating top hurler like a $20 tomato can sparring partner vs. heavyweight contender. Yankee announcers wondering why Cox continues to let Lowe get embarrassed, even outs are rocket balls.
2) In comes Medlen top 4th, first-and-third nobody out. After two outs, escape without any more runns allowed looking possible maintaining 6-1 Yankees’ lead with Petite on deck. Might Cox remind 22-year-old rookie Medlen: walk Cody Ranson especially after it’s a 2-0 count, with Petite next? No….laser-beam gapper, 8-1 Yankees. Petite K’s on three pitches. Yankee snnounncers laugh, make fun of Cox, call it, “all the more confounding.”
3) Garret Anderson, making it the even 100th time this season that he won’t hustle, ends up on first after Jeter can hamdle pop-fly Texas Leaguer in bottom of the fourth. Both Yankees’ announcers call Garret a “great player, but he easily should be on 2B, really failed to hustle. Bobby Cox won’t stand for that.”
Bobby, still in coma, probably thinking of post-game stoogie, plus there’s some nice booger he needs to pick out of nose, and if someone reminds him of Garret’s no-hustle, will Hee-Haw some folksy aw-shucks lame excuse rather than admit washed-up bum Anderson should stop sulking about low salary and will be disciplined.
“Hey this is my country club, and I’m the social director,” will be all Cox will remind benign local media.
Your Thursday night Bobby Cox “I’m in a Michael Jackson coma moment.”

just wanted to thank the blogger yesterday for the heads up on how conrad was a career minor leaguer with no chance of helping the braves does that mean making a triple a all star team makes you a career minor leageur? or that pinch hit three run home runs wont help our bravos?
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
