Mac’s tired; needs a rest.
Frenchy actually had two good ABs – good for a #7 hitter.
KJ hopeless at plate; Prado got a clutch hit.
GA costing us too much in LF. Though Diaz hopeless against Riviera, at least he gets to a few more balls in LF. Both hitting about the same, so defense should win out.
Bennett not reliable (duh!); not at all; but Acosta not a solution; not with more regular work. Medlen needs to gain some confidence or we’re going to pin a Joey Devine label on him. Mac or Ross needs to slow him down when things get tough.
Game might have been different if KK not hit; if O’F(undamentals) gets to First on time; if interference call is made, but Braves just looked tired and outclassed tonight. Never want a team to look like that.

I agree Epi, I got mad, annoyed, frustrated, all of the above but I liked that they didn’t lay down and die..not when KK had to go early, not when the Yankees went up 4-0, not after the bad call, and not even in the 8th. They fought all the way up until Mo took the hill. And there’s no coming back 5 on Mo most nights, especially not when they played as sloppy as they played tonight.

Trust me, if they had to have those starters the rest of the year, it will catch up to them. We didn’t really fall off the map last year till right after the all star break when all those season ending injuries started to pile up and coincide with the nagging injuries of Chipper and Escobar, and McCann’s collision at the plate. If they have that lineup long enough it will take its toll on them.

I am about to get on McFann’s bad side. BMac sucked tonight. I think he caught what the rest of the team has. This team has no heart. They can’t make routine plays. Over the weekend series the sox announcers were talking about not knowing what ATL team you would see offensively. I agree. Not one player came up to bat tonight with a plan. Not even Chipper or BMac. The defese was … I can’t say on the blog. ATL got a gift call from the umps and still gave the game away. I want so bad to believe in this team, but nights like tonight makes me not want to watch anymore. But, I will . I am hopelessly addicted to this insanity. This might be the worst game they have played if not for the debacle in Phili at the beginning of the year. I will not put this on the BP. I put this loss on the whole team outside of KK and Medlen. The team overall SUCKED tonight. At least Chipper didn’t make another freaking error. This has to be BMac’s worst game ever. I mean all the way back to t-ball.

I’ve been a Brave watcher for a loooong time! Since Bobby Cox was 8 years old, to be exact. What many of you say is true. Who is that guy in left field? That kind of play, offensive and defensive, is contagious. Matt Diaz isn’t perfect, but he gives it 100%. Right field lost me when he bitched about the demotion last year. Out the door! As for Bennett? Predictable result, yet again! I was in Boston when he blew that one on 1 pitch.
We fans deserve better. Let the front office know.

A couple more random rants. Loaf is Loaf. He gives up more runs than he produces.
KJ, I keep hoping him and Francouer will trip in the dugout, break some ankles and be DLed the rest of the year. We as Braves fans should be DLed just for having to watch them this season.
Chipper has gotten really old, realy, really fast. His bat has slowed way down. He will struggle for 20HR seasons the rest of his career. Don’t want to get started on his defense.
This whole team needs to see a shrink.
On a more serious note. I saw the difference between Medlen and Hanson tonight. Hanson doesn’t get rattled. Medlen gives up the HR and should have been pulled immediately. He is not ready for the “SHOW”. He want remain with ATL for long.
ATL got their collective ARSES kicked by a no name catcher, Joba the Hut, and well they kicked their on ARSES tonight also.

As of the last game or two, Francoeur is back on track. The key to his resurgence appears to be opposing pitchers throwing him fat pitches right down the middle.

I think I’m with Epinephrine on this one. With KK going down so early, you don’t exactly expect to win. And with these Braves, you certainly don’t expect to win down 4-1 in the 7th. But they kept fighting, kept scratching and made this game a lot closer than it could have been. They could easily have given up and gotten blown out but they didn’t. The offense didn’t suddenly turn back the clock to 2003 or whenever it was they just went gangbusters with Lopez jacking like 45 or something, but they scratched out their 4 runs. Hopefully they’ll come back strong again tomorrow and we’ll be able to hang some more zeroes up on the Yankees.

Wow. I feel like I watched a different game than a lot of you.
Medlen looked good for a few innings then lost control of the strike zone-seemed like his nerves got to him. He definitely deserves responsibility for letting runs in. Were it not for a lucky call, that would have been a 2 run homer on his watch. And he set the table for Bennett.
Jeff Bennett is not good. Nor is Acosta. But we are not the Yankees. We don’t have that payroll. It seems like a lot of people expect our bullpen to give up 0 runs a game. Bullpen pitchers don’t have 0.00 ERAs. Not even closers. Especially not middle relievers. Per 2 innings they are going to average around 1-2 runs a game. That is what we are paying for, and that is what we get. Expecting perfection out of mop up guys is asking for heart burn.
Mac had a bad game. He basically has been carrying this team this year, so give the guy a pass. He isn’t going to go 3/4 every game, and he isn’t going to go the entire year without giving up a run.
This was a gutsy performance by this group until the 8th when things unraveled. The Braves lost their starter after 3 innings to an injury. We didn’t have any of our three best relievers available. And yet the team still kept clawing back, making it an interesting game.
This is a game on paper we probably should have lost anyway-KK v. Joba, who has been pitching well lately. Take KK out after 3, and guess what, odds of a loss go up considerably. I just don’t know what game you guys were watching.

bravos2249, I asked that same ? to my wife tonight. I don’t get it. Alot of good players get hurt. Bad ones don’t. Could be the ammount of effort bein used? The best thing that could happen right now is for either KJ or Frenchy to get hurt and DLed. Nothing serious, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. These 2 guys are killing us. In an NL game, we have 3 automatic outs every freaking game. And as usaul, Frenchy does nothing when it needs to counts.

last I checked Bennett pitched about 3 days ago….Acosta hasn’t pitched in about 2 weeks…..they looked the same….THAT’S NOT GOOD….Acosta is expected to look bad….Bennett has been used….it doesn’t matter…How stupid do you have to be to throw a fast ball right there 0-2 to a guy that’s struggling and just missed one that almost went in the dirt.

Its pretty hard when the Braves have to go up against a team of ballplayers, and a team of umpires on a daily basis.. Talk about crap officiating in this game.. The Yankee CF was clearly safe on that Medlen pickoff attempt.. Cano was clearly in the base path and should have been out with no runs allowed, and instead 2 runs come across..
The Braves would have lost anyways because Jeff Bennett did again what he does best, and that is gives up runs.. Jeff Bennett is the new Blaine Boyer of the Braves.. I know they can look through the waiver wire, or call someone else up that will do a better job then this useless tool.. The guy sucks, and doesn’t deserve to be on a MLB team.. Nothing else to say but wow.. That was just a poor game all the way around..

Any thoughts on the NBA draft tomorrow evening? Around here, some are thinking that if Tyler Hansbrough is around for the 20th pick, he would be perfect for Jerry Sloan’s system.
Anybody want a power forward with a 12.7 million dollar contract? Only problem is he only plays about 40-60% of the year, and plays matador defense.

Braves hope Kawakami can make his next start, but at worst it sounds like they’d just move him back with the off day in the schedule Monday.
“I’m fine – I’m alive,” Kawakami said through an interpreter. “At first I was very worried that it might have hit a bone.”
He was diagnosed with a contusion near the base of his neck and will be reevaluated in two or three days to determine if he can make his next start.
Cox said, “We think he’s going to be OK, but we won’t know for sure for at least two days. There’s a lot of swelling, a lot of discoloration, a lot of bleeding in it.”

Can’t you realize Braves don’t play smart intelligent fundamental baseball because the ‘players’ manager,’ doesn’t demand it. Doesn’t even know what it is at thjs point. He just wamts his guys to just go out and play, and I’ll cheer like this is high school.
No plan, no crispness, no energy. This team does not play smart because Brain Dead Bobby is a more bankrupt industry than GM. He doesn’t manage smartly, is an absolute horrid game tactician, and the team doesn’t play heads-up.
They give any too many games, as a manager he constantly surrenders advantage, and it’s obvious Cox has no clue. See Jeff Bennett rule.
And by the way, stick a parking meter in left field. It will collect quarters and play the same defense as Garret Anderson.

The more we bash the old man, the more you realize he knows things we don’t. Acosta would’ve been the only other logical choice to face A-Roid in that situation considering Gonzo/Soriano have been used so much and they’re set-up/closers…Moylan–same. Anyways, who’s to say Acosta wouldn’t have come in a gave up a grand slam right there? He sure didn’t look good later. Hey, I bashed Cox when he brought Bennett in, so I’ll take a little blame there too.

But I mean, can anyone honestly disagree about how annoying Chip Caray was tonight? I usually don’t even notice him when others are complaining about him but good lord. First of all, he’s been slobbering all over the Yankees since last night and then he didn’t even wait until the 2nd inning before he started throwing out “no hitter” and “perfect game” over and over and over and over again – and I’m NOT exaggerating. What home team broadcaster does that? Seriously. Is nothing sacred? I know it’s just superstition but that crap annoys me. Don’t mess with that!

It didn’t come back over the plate, it was right down the middle from the time it left Bennett’ hand. Can somebody get Bobby a pair of Heap’s glasses? I mean yeah yeah sure, if you want to say “we had one bad pitch” fine, but don’t be acting like it just accidentally went down the middle of the plate. Sheesh.

How about how over and over early on they talked about how bad the Yankees were hitting, an almost out by out sumary of our scoreless steak and threw up graphic after graphic about them. Especially when their big hitters came up. That, with Chip’s tone, was almost like they were saying “come on you great Yankees. Show us that great offense!”

That, I assume, is why Bobby hadn’t been using him lately and why he didn’t against A-Roid. Me, I’d have bitten the bullet and put Moylan out there even though he’s been used more than prostitute lately. It really was the at bat of the game. Lowe tomorrow…pray he’s back to form because I have a feeling old man Pettite will be on his game.

then he did not realize that diaz was put in the game in the pitchers spot in the ninth to play right field and acosta was in the seven hole.

Just got back from the Ted. I hope I never see Bennett put his fat friggin’ carcass into a Braves uni ever friggin’ again. You just knew the game was over when you saw that tub of useless lard waddle in from the bullpen. Dude loses a ton of weight, and rises out of nowhere because of it, and becomes a serviceable enough major league middle reliever. Then he decides, hey, even though all that weight loss really helped resurrect my career, why don’t I sabotage it again by stuffing my fat face again? If he just sucked because he sucks, that would be one thing. But it’s the reason why he sucks that really ticks me off.
As painful as it was, it was awesome though to see the greatest reliever of all time (and there isn’t a reliever anywhere even close), at his absolute jaw dropping best.

Forgot to mention that I talked to Infante today. He’s doing well, much faster recovery than when he had this same injury during winter ball after the 2007 season. I like watching the non-Braves broadcast teams do Braves games. Joe has become such a homer that I can’t stand listening to him anymore. I know that the team and the networks have really ratcheted up their pimping of the Braves, but does Joe really have to be this bad?
I expect it out of Chip. He’s all over the place. He slobbers over teams like the Yanks, Sox, Cards and Cubs. He makes blindly stupid homer comments. For example…the one tonight about Rivera’s 0-2 pitch to Kelly: “That pitch was closer to Cooperstown than it was to the strike zone.” The pitch couldn’t have been more than five or six inches outside.
Then, he gets stupid…
On the next pitch, Rivera makes Kelly shart with a hellish cutting fastball (thanks, uga) that induces a fugly swing-and-miss for strike three. Chip called it a slider! A slider? Rivera throws one damn pitch, Chip. One.

OK. I’m in agreement with Bobby Cox for once. The 0-2 pitch to A-Rod with the bases loaded was absolutely idiotic. The question is, who is the moron who called for Jeff Bennett to groove an 0-2 fastball to A-Rod when they should have wasted a pitch?
I’m betting that idiot is Bobby Cox.
I can’t comment on the rest of the game as I was so angered by that one pitch that I turned the game off. I can’t say that I missed anything during the last three innings.
But I will leave the blog with this last thought.

So how the hell can our Braves be expected to win while scoring an average of less than four runs per game? The answer is obvious. They can’t, they aren’t and they won’t.
