This from Braves just now in an e-mail I got. I’m just pasting it, because I’m hurring out of here:
Tickets are still available, but we encourage fans to order in advance (at braves.com/tickets). Walk up tickets will also be available.
· All Turner Field lots will be permit only, meaning if fans don’t have a permit for a Turner Field lot, they will be turned away. Fans can pre-purchase discounted parking at braves.com/parking, but once it is sold out, no spaces will be available.
· We strongly encourage those fans who have not pre-purchased parking to take MARTA.

I think Rescue Me would be hard to follow if you jump in midseason (or even midseries)…there are a lot of continuing stories that just kinda flow from one episode or season to the next, mixed in with the “day to day” plots that vary from week to week. I actually loved that episode but then again, I’ve seen every episode that has aired…

But before everyone outside Atlanta and Braves Nation bestows the best-hitting catcher label on Mauer over McCann, consider that McCann has a .300 career average with more homers (77) and almost as many doubles (134) and RBI (325) in 525 games than Mauer (58 homers, 139 doubles, 343 RBI) has in 608 games.

Seriously, though, Mauer is an amazing catcher (oh man, that was hard to type!)…but BMac could just be the better hitter. Like you said, DOB, Mauer gets to play in the covered, air-conditioned, air-blows-out-for-the-home-team-”it’s-called-home-field-advantage” ballpark. And he DH’s a little bit (that’s why I don’t like the DH…it’s cheating!).
Hey, if BMac cann get his D going (pretty please, Brian?), he could be a sort of a Johnny Bench. Johnny Bench likes him, too! He said so to McCann’s face at the 2006 ASG. (Johnny, come back! Help him with his D!)
Ah yes, and BMac’s made such a nice transition to the glasses. Gotta tell ya, it’s more than I expected so quickly. I thought it would take him at least a week to get used to them. Sometimes I love being wrong…

I think McCann is one of the most underrated players in the league. He has also had marked improvement at throwing out runners this year. What is his percentage? It seems to me that when runners are successful it has less to do with our pitchers than his throws.
As for Chipper, has he had anything to say about his defensive drop-off?
Finally, any shot Soriano makes the All-Star team? He has an outside shot at getting his E.R.A. below 1.00 before the game.

It was McCann with the homer last night DOB.
Good blog & a good discussion about who is the better all around catcher. With Mauer getting to DH & playing at a more hitter friendly park I’d go with McCann as far as hitting & Mauer as the better defender.
I really think the Braves are about to put things together, IF Cox puts his bias aside & goes with Diaz in right & Prado at second. The Braves need SOMETHING out of the 7-8 spots in the order.
They don’t have to have some huge bat right now, just Diaz & Prado to get on base in the 7-8 holes, well that is if they get to play. We need our 1-5 guys hitting more times in the game. Too many times we have 8-9-1 leading off an inning or the pitcher because the 7-8 hole can’t get on base.
I really think we would see a huge improvement in run production if KJ & Frenchy were benched. What does Cox have to lose by trying this for a few weeks? Diaz & Prado couldn’t play any worse than Frenchy & KJ, not possible. If by odd chance they did, we get the same result as we would with the current two batless wonders.
We need the 7-8 guys to get on base & occasionally drive some runs in. Mainly just get on base to clear the pitcher & lead off with the top of the order. Too many times the Braves are forced to rally with two out because of the constant failings of two players & a manager who won’t play the better players.

Space Monkey, I’ve sensed a growing opinion with some in the organization that Prado should be the starter if Kelly doesn’t snap out of this in a hurry. DOB
Johnson continues to struggle and is in a 7-for-56 slump since June 5. He has been a streaky player in the past, so there’s some hope he can get hot. If not, his struggles should soon start to impact his playing time. Rotowire.com
Kelly Johnson’s .184 average against righties is the worst in the league among qualifiers. Remember, of course, Johnson, is a left-handed batter. Jeff Francoeur (.262) and Johnson (.267) have the NL’s third- and fourth-lowest OBPs against righties. DOB

No no, it has more to do with our pitchers!
His percentage took a hit last night with though 4 steals the Yankees had against Hanson and BMac–went down to 23%. Those throws last night…mmm. Not so good. BUT they were the worst of the year, I mean…pretty much all of his throws before last night’s were very good. Crashing your throwing arm into the backstop cement will likely do that to a catcher…let’s just be thankful they weren’t playing in whatever stadium it is with the brick backstop.

Well my vote for greatest catcher would be Pudge Rodriguez. However, I am too young to have seen Johnny Bench. So no one get mad about that. Pudge is the best I have seen. Piazza was a better hitter, but Pudge was by far the better catcher. Piazza had no arm.

Uh, his numbers this year are a little better than last year’s…he’s 8-35 so far this year. Oh man, last year was bad…I cann hardly type it, but here it goes: 21-114 for the season. Yow.
His throws (except for last night’s) have been so much better. That’d be sweet if it made opponents think twice about running…
Hu, I don’t think they’ve run as wild on him as they did last year, anyway!

Yadier Molina? Really? If B-Mac doesn’t start for the NL it’s a crime. And I thought I saw somebody throw R. Soriano’s name out there as a candidate. I think that’s quite possible, the guy has been fantastic. Gonzo too lately.
Also… saying two of the best ever… isn’t that a little tooooo premature? Don’t get me wrong, there’s no doubt Right NOW Mauer and Mac are the two best. Now that Mauer has added the power game they both hit for Avg., Power, and high OBP. But it still might be slightly too early to throw the word “ever” in there. Just sayin. I may be, and would be delighted to be humbled in 3-4 years time, but for now, let’s just say their the best catchers in the game.

Kelly and Francoeur are two of the worst everyday players in the majors right now, per that ESPN list. Everyone marvels at how many two out RBIs we get-I don’t know if it’s possible, but I would love to see what percentage of those outs were earned by either Kelly or Jeff (or Garrett Anderson before late).
I’d be willing to wager a great deal. Now that the Braves are actually in this race, I’m not sure how much longer they can afford to let Kelly and Francoeur continue to try to make things right.
Anyway, pretty big game tonight. If the Braves can get a win with KK on the mound, the next five days shape up extremely well for the Bravos. It would be a huge, huge win. I’d say the odds are against the Bravos tonight, but let’s see what happens.

I tend to think that Hollywood does tend to focus too much on special effects instead of plot, sotory lines and actual acting. Star Wars was a perfect example. While the technology was available to make Star Wars 1-3 really good movies, they seemed to focus on that too much and the older ones remain head and shoulders above the newer ones.

The Braves should be in decent position to make up some ground before the All Star game. I know the schedule is tough, but they play well against the best teams for whatever reasons.
The Mets are so banged up & they are facing a tough run of games as well, so I doubt they stay in second place for long. The way the Marlins are playing it might not be too crazy to think they could be the team the Braves are chasing for the division.
Philly has the offense to run off 8-10 games in a row, but their pitching is absolutely awful.
It’s going to be a good race in the East, I just hope the Braves are part of it. Even if they fall short I’d love the excitement of them being in it until the end.

Last night the Yankees announcers said that AROD was tired and did not have his head on straight. This after pictures of him and Kate Hudson hot together in Miami. His connection previously with Madonna who played Eva Peron and sang about Crying in Argentina clearly a prelude to South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford reporting on his Crying in Argentina. Will this also affect attendance in Atlanta tonight by the neighboring state’s denizens?

Based on the career numbers, Mauer is a better hitter.
McCann is a better slugger.

Also thought it was interesting that:
NEFTALI FELIZ is moving to the Ranger’s bullpen. After being a can’t miss prospect, he’s slipped a bit this year as chinks have shown up in his armor at AAA. Right now, he is just below a 4.00 ERA, though he is still striking out plenty of people.
The Teixeira trade has been lambasted by many people. But we forget that Tex put up darn good numbers for the Braves while he was here. And even though it didn’t work out, it did send a signal that the Braves were committed to winning.
Elvis Andrus appears to be the real deal, but like I said, we did get talent, and we also ended up with Kotchman and Marek as consolation prizes.
As for Feliz, Harrison (who has gotten shelled this year) and Salty, though…well, I’m just saying that the trade might not end up looking as bad as many people first feared.

As for being premature on McCann-I’m of the opinion that he has been so underrated by the national media as of late, that any hyperbole may do well to push things aright. I have a feeling that the number of people crying foul over Molina v. McCann will increase after our whirlwind tour of the Boston, Chicago, Philly, and NY media over the next few series.

Speaking of McCann, I think this has been the best June of his career, combining power, AVG and RBI.
2009: 67 AB 23 H 7 2B 1 3B 2 HR 12 RBI 6 BB 10 K .343 AVG .405 OBP .567 SLG
Last year, he had the RBI (13) and some power (4 2B, 5 HR), but the AVG was down (.244).
In ‘07, he had the RBI (16) and a little power (3 2B, 4 HR), but, again, the AVG was way down (.238).
2006, all he really had going was the AVG (.365–no HR, 2 2B, and 2 RBI), but he was coming off the ankle injury.
In ‘05, he had the AVG going for him big time (.385), but had 2 HR, 5 RBI, and no doubles–but he was a Rookie, so…
He also tends to K more in June than other months. This year, he’s struck out 10 times in June after combining for 12 in April and May. Last year, he struck out 16 times, in ‘07 18 times, in ‘06 only 8 times, and in ‘05 only 3 times. That’s 55 career K’s in June–next highest is 48 in August.
Anyway, that was a need-my-thing-to-refresh moment, but I’ve also been kinda meaning to post all that…

Infielder Omar Infante will begin therapy on his broken left hand on Wednesday. Infante is expected to return to the team some time after the All-Star break.

Epinephrine As for being premature on McCann-I’m of the opinion that he has been so underrated by the national media as of late…
“Of late”? He’s always been overlooked by the national media. (He prob’ly likes it that way–and I kinda do, too, sometimes. It’s like he’s our secret weapon or something…) But I know what you’re saying. Hope he and the Braves tear it up against these tough teams!
