And here I was thinking that by watching the Braves tv broadcast I could avoid the Derek Jeter Love Fest 2009! but apparently I was mistaken. Here’s hoping tomorrow’s game isn’t blacked out on Peachtree…if it is I might explode
So when Escobar makes mental mistakes he gets benched as punishment, but when Kelly makes mental mistakes he gets a pat on the @$$ and a “better luck next time”?
No offense, but if Hanson is ou best pitching prospect, I’d hate to see the other ones like Rohrbough, etc. He’s gonna be good because he has great stuff, but his control his, uh, bad.
Will the tag team of Cox&Chipper give KJ a dropkick after the game? How about seeking out AJC reporters to push a snarky quote? Or will it be more hypocrisy where Yunel gets a spanking but others slide on by?
If Kelly Johnson had been busting his tail out of the box immediately upon hitting that ball off the plate, he would have easily beat out that chopper. I rewound that play and say that he stood there, then looked up, and then started running. The ball was in the air 2-3 seconds before he started running.
It is the lack of good, baseball instincts that is killing the Braves. The announcers on t.v did not say anything about it. Hustle is something that cannot be taught. Either you have it in your heart, or you dont.
If Kelly had ran immediately upon contact (if the ball goes foul, he can always walk back and bat again), then not only would the Braves be up 1-0, but it would have gotten the pitcher out of the way and you’d have McLouth leading off instead of Hanson.
We have already seen the usual suspects show up tonight. The cancers of this team–Frenchy’s impetuous bull%$£^ with men on base, KJ’s idiocy, and even BMac’s poor defense behind the plate (luckily that bobbled ball didn’t come back to haunt us there). These are the reasons we aren’t 5 games over .500. STUPID STUPID STUPID and very avoidable mistakes.
Lets be honest. Bobby Cox loves Francoeur and Johnson and in his eyes they can do no wrong. On the other hand Cox hates Escobar and will bench him any chance he gets.
Paul Lentz –
I notcied the same thing: Neither Joe nor Caray made one mention of KJ’s lack of instinct and hustle after that play. Joe was too bust lavishing praise upon Kelly for his two walks last night. WOW – 2 walks. Put him in the hall of fame now.
