Screw the Yankees and their Billion dollar empire. It shows you how far greed can get you. Yankees SUCK!

I couldn’t agree more, but if they got what we need to win, then let’s go get it. Wren can hornswoggle Cashman. Cashman has no idea how to make a decent trade.

Maybe we can’t sweep the Yanks, but there’s no reason why we can’t win every series. Pitching has been great, and the offense needs to do it’s job. then we win. if not, we lose. its pretty simple really. look at colorado, winners of 17 out of 18. they were much like the braves before that run, in fact they had a worse record i believe. in baseball, anything can happen. No reason we can’t start a run, beginning with the Boston series (although we lost the series, we played well overall.) We also had a very good win last night. Just need to continue and scratch out a win here and there, steal a win here and there, and all of a sudden you’re on a roll

I would never say that B.C. isn’t a great manager, but how can he not have Prado in the line-up. Is Prado hurt? Johnson is an automatic out and we need to produce runs. I just don’t get it. We are not playing to win.

Brandon O,

The Rockies and the Braves are two DIFFERENT teams. The chemistry, comradery, and social make up counts for something also, in which the Braves are severely lacking. Any team that plays down to its competition is lacking motivation. When was the last time the Braves rallied for a win? If they are behind, their mindset is gameover. Teams with heart and fight are different. The Braves have no heart and therefore will NEVER win more than 4 in a row this season, they’ve yet to.

thanks. please understand that swisher is more than a .245 hitter. hes a switch hitter that has good power (12 homers this year) is versatile defensively, and is really really good at getting on base. he is sporting a .383 OBP so far this year, which is very good, and paired with his .505 slg%, makes him a very good offensive player.

add to that the fact he is under contract i think 3 more years, and soriano is a shut down closer-but with only a few months left- makes soriano for swisher a trade that cashman would be retarded to take. im sure the braves would have to throw something in, if just for appearances.

All true. However flexible he may be defensively, he doesn’t really stand out to me as a plus defender. However, the flexibilty alone is a positive. I know his OBP and SLG are high. I’m just glad you did your research and know about the guy. Alot of people on here are just clamoring for anyone different in the outfield. I just don’t Swisher would be a huge upgrade especially at the expense of Soriano (whom I value alot..more than Gonzo). I know his price tag will probably be high and his injury history extensive, but I hope the offseason elbow surgery corrected everything and that we can keep him. Of course, just my opinions and wishful thinking.

Prado will be limited to playing because of the groin thing. He had to play last night, because there was no choice in the matter with KJ having to come out. I would take Prado over KJ anyday at 2B. Let KJ and Frenchy platoon so there will be one less automatic out during the game.

I know this will get me blasted but I’m going to say it anyway because I think its something to consider. Could the Braves dangle Kotchman along with a solid prospect and mabye Francoeur for somebody like Adam LaRoche? I know LaRoche is a strikeout machine but he is also a guy with power who can drive in runs.

Also, I think Vasquez has to be dangled if for no other reason to see what offers the Braves get. They can plug Medlen back into the rotation. I know its not ideal to have two rookies in the rotation but I think both rookies have established that they can be very good already.

Enough teams out there are desperate enough for pitching they will consider giving up a quality bat. The Tigers need some pitching and Magglio O. is in the doghouse. A trade could rejuvenate him. The Angels need pitching would they be willing to give up Vlad since it is unlikely they will exercise his option? Would the Rangers be willing to part with Marlon Byrd and a prospect? I live in Oklahoma City where the Rangers’ AAA affiliate is and they have some great prospects here whom the Braves could more than use.

The Rockies are playing well right now but that pitching isn’t exactly great. Maybe they give up Brad Hawpe? And the Brewers need pitching. Could either Corey Hart or Mike Cameron be available?

For example, why the last 5 games for McClouth (we have played 3 different teams)? But before that you had stats on Kelly’s last 18? I agree, with your nickname, that is. Why would the rockies trade a key component of their team when they are winning at almost a 100% pace over the last 2.5 weeks?

why do you think vlad guerrero has anything left in him at all?
magglio could definitely be had, but how much does he cost, and his dropoff is extremely alarming………

i really like marlon byrd, but he also is a key part of the rangers team. anyway, i just dont think we can get by without javy vazquez. he stabilizes the rotation.

DAP

TBrianAlot of people on here are just clamoring for anyone different in the outfield.

in most cases, that would be an improvement. if you are talking about replacing jeff’s .650 OPS with swishers .883 OPS, that is a HUGE upgrade tot eh bottom of the order. just the walks would help, by turning the lineup over and getting the top more ABs.

soriano is the man. i like him more than gonzo. but, the fact is we have two closers, and if we had one closer and a good rightfielder, i think we win alot more ballgames. if we trade soriano, we could always sign him back. (not likely, but its possible)

i also think soriano is the one to go because he makes more money. so, if the braves are selling, they might as well do it right.

This lineup inspires the following, based on a reasonably famous poem of the years of the last century — “Baseball’s Sad Lexicon”

These are the saddest of possible words:
“Frenchy then Johnson strike out.”
Always swinging at balls in the dirt,
Frenchy then Johnson strike out.
Ruthlessly pricking our playoff bound bubble,
Smashing Braves rallies into mere rubble –
Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble:
“Frenchy then Johnson strike out.”

cabravesfan,

Saw the minor league numbers of Brian McCann you posted earlier…

That’s been my argument on this blog for a while. Last year amid all the KJ/Prado debates, the main argument against Prado was minor league #’s (KJ outproduced him in the minors) and sample size at the major league level.

My argument was that some hitters hit major league pitching better. Don Mattingly? used to say this as well. Said that pitchers in the majors are always around the plate throwing strikes, so some players hit better in the majors than the minors.

I’m sure if you look up Yunel’s minor league numbers compared to his major league #’s, they’d be the same as BMac’s.

DAP – We do have two closers but anyone else reliable in the bullpen? EO’F has been good this year but trustworthy down the stretch? Moylan has been better recently but I’m not too comfortable with him knockin out late innings of tight games right now. Swisher would be an upgrade over Frenchy offensively, but defensively, no. And it would significantly damage our bullpen. If we’re about this season, I just don’t think that trade helps us enough to call it “a steal.” But to your point about selling and selling right, if we end up selling, I say move em both. Well, here’s the thing. The Braves need more power and production from right. They are going to have to give up something to get something. Now, that is unless they give up on the season. Besides, the Braves aren’t going to want a more “permanent” solution in rightfield when Jason Heyward is going to likely be here next year or the year after.
