David O’Brien -
McLouth’s hitting twice lol
June 23rd, 20094:24 pm
Sweet Mclouth is batting twice who needs a catcher
DOB – McLouth batting 1st and 4th. How we gonna pull that off. What happens if he’s on base and has to bat at the same time
June 23rd, 2009
Screw the Yankees and their Billion dollar empire. It shows you how far greed can get you. Yankees SUCK!
I couldn’t agree more, but if they got what we need to win, then let’s go get it. Wren can hornswoggle Cashman. Cashman has no idea how to make a decent trade.
June 23rd, 20094:25 pm
Saw Amanda Peet in latest X-Files movie, a very different role for her. She even looked distinctly different in a character that was not a romantic comedy situation.
oh DOB if only McLouth COULD bat twice in the lineup …
June 23rd, 20094:26 pm
Maybe we can’t sweep the Yanks, but there’s no reason why we can’t win every series. Pitching has been great, and the offense needs to do it’s job. then we win. if not, we lose. its pretty simple really. look at colorado, winners of 17 out of 18. they were much like the braves before that run, in fact they had a worse record i believe. in baseball, anything can happen. No reason we can’t start a run, beginning with the Boston series (although we lost the series, we played well overall.) We also had a very good win last night. Just need to continue and scratch out a win here and there, steal a win here and there, and all of a sudden you’re on a roll
tale of woe
I would never say that B.C. isn’t a great manager, but how can he not have Prado in the line-up. Is Prado hurt? Johnson is an automatic out and we need to produce runs. I just don’t get it. We are not playing to win.
"TONIGHT IS A TRAP GAME"
The Rockies and the Braves are two DIFFERENT teams. The chemistry, comradery, and social make up counts for something also, in which the Braves are severely lacking. Any team that plays down to its competition is lacking motivation. When was the last time the Braves rallied for a win? If they are behind, their mindset is gameover. Teams with heart and fight are different. The Braves have no heart and therefore will NEVER win more than 4 in a row this season, they’ve yet to.
June 23rd, 20094:27 pm
Cashman is the dumbest GM in the majors. If he was limited in what he could spend, he’d be fired by now.
There will just be a “ghost man” on whatever base he was on.
hmmmm – h DOB if only McLouth COULD bat twice in the lineup
Would be fine with that but would rather he bat for Frenchy instaed of McCann
June 23rd, 20094:28 pm
McLouth is so good, he is gonna get to bat twice each time around tonight! Sweet!
Would that work?
rob from sc
Why can’t Bobby play Prado.
bottom of the order will come through in tonight’s win
Yeah, how great would it be if McClouth could hit leadoff then later for Frenchy.
June 23rd, 20094:29 pm
DAP – Usually like your posts, but I wouldn’t call trading much of anything, much less someone who’s been lights out in the 8th/9th, for a .245 hitter a “steal”
9. Hanson (someone has to pitch, right?)
DOB, this group is relentless lol
June 23rd, 20094:30 pm
bobby loves the righty lefty matchup, even though kelly can’t hit a righty. what’s going through Old Man’s Head?? Prado better be banged up.
2 1/2 hours until Tommy Hanson’s coming out party on National TV!
One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn’t belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?
Did you guess which thing was not like the others?
Did you guess which thing just doesn’t belong?
SuperMac…great minds think alike, huh?
June 23rd, 20094:31 pm
Just like kickball when you were a kid…McLouth will have to call a “ghost runner”!
wait, this game’s on ESPN??
June 23rd, 20094:32 pm
How about the Cubs game a few weeks back with Frenchies homer.
Or the Last game in the boston series they kept battling back just stupid Bennet hung one. I truly believe they are starting to hit. Even Frenchy doesn’t quite look as hopeless. Its freaking June!!!
Hanson is going to only throw fastballs and he’s going to throw them so hard they hit the backstop and bounce back to him making a catcher obsolete. The umpire will call the game from the batters box opposite the hitter.
Coming out party?!?!?!? Let’s just hope it ain’t a comeuppance party
June 23rd, 20094:33 pm
I heard your interview in Boston over the weekend. Good stuff!!!! I just felt you should have given KJ an exception when asked about the horrible songs the Braves come out to. KJ should get a pass RATM is one of the best bands ever. Let the other 24 players have it but KJ might not be able to get a hit but he knows what a hit is.
I like your idea RLPmetro.
Loved your lineup.
McLouth batting twice. Well, I think that makes up for the DH thing in the AL parks but I would’ve sat someone beside McCann.
Kelly's Big Johnson
June 23rd, 20094:34 pm
Hey guys! Surely you’ve seen that I’m starting. Don’t worry, one way or the other I’ll handle the Wang tonight.
June 23rd, 20094:35 pm
KJ might not be able to get a hit but he knows what a hit is.
cabravesfan agrees with you.
June 23rd, 20094:36 pm
My goal for the evening is to ruin at least 5 Yankees fans outfits tonight.
Ronnie James Dio
When I heard Greg Norton walk out to “Holy Diver”, he instantly climbed my favorite Braves chart…
Martin Prado isnt banged up, hell if anything Kelly would be.
Martin Prado is just a terrible fielder at 2B. Thats why he doesnt play as much. People cant seem to realize this. (Or realize that Kelly is a good defender.)
June 23rd, 20094:37 pm
espn gameday line has the yanks as underdogs
June 23rd, 20094:38 pm
Crazy Trades McGee
June 23rd, 20094:39 pm
We should trade yunel, kelly, frenchy, chipper, mclouth, and diaz for Albert Pujols… Not quite sure that would net him though…
Wayne in Utah
Be prepared, your gonna catch some crap for dissin’ Prado on here!
June 23rd, 20094:41 pm
Crazy Trades McGee
Do you want to add McCann and Hanson to that?
June 23rd, 20094:42 pm
1 through 5 better get it done because 6 through 9 look like sh..
will this game be on natn’l tv?
The McClouth thing reminds me of this:
1st base Bugs Bunny, 2nd base Bugs Bunny, SS Bugs Bunny, 3rd base Bugs Bunny….except it goes like this
batting first McClouth, batting 2nd McClouth, batting 3rd McClouth LOL
I needed a chuckle
June 23rd, 20094:43 pm
I suppose that’s McCann in the four hole since McLouth can’t bat in two places.
hey crazy trades why dont we throw in kotchman because we wouldnt have a use for him either
Crazy Trades McGee’s Lineup:
June 23rd, 20094:44 pm
Obviously we will have to have a ghost runner.
TBrown Usually like your posts, but I wouldn’t call trading much of anything, much less someone who’s been lights out in the 8th/9th, for a .245 hitter a “steal”
thanks. please understand that swisher is more than a .245 hitter. hes a switch hitter that has good power (12 homers this year) is versatile defensively, and is really really good at getting on base. he is sporting a .383 OBP so far this year, which is very good, and paired with his .505 slg%, makes him a very good offensive player.
add to that the fact he is under contract i think 3 more years, and soriano is a shut down closer-but with only a few months left- makes soriano for swisher a trade that cashman would be retarded to take. im sure the braves would have to throw something in, if just for appearances.
Buffalo NY Braves Fan
Don’t let McFann see that lineup….
Ah ish..he said Yunel. That threw me off
June 23rd, 20094:45 pm
Yea if we add hanson and mccann then I think we can definitely get pujols… then we can play him at every position like that bugs bunny cartoon…
Darn, Coach Smith beat me to the bugs bunny thing…
Buffalo NY Braves Fan–
June 23rd, 20094:46 pm
IDEA: Bat Frenchy leadoff. Go ahead and the out out of the way.
June 23rd, 20094:48 pm
All true. However flexible he may be defensively, he doesn’t really stand out to me as a plus defender. However, the flexibilty alone is a positive. I know his OBP and SLG are high. I’m just glad you did your research and know about the guy. Alot of people on here are just clamoring for anyone different in the outfield. I just don’t Swisher would be a huge upgrade especially at the expense of Soriano (whom I value alot..more than Gonzo). I know his price tag will probably be high and his injury history extensive, but I hope the offseason elbow surgery corrected everything and that we can keep him. Of course, just my opinions and wishful thinking.
I think I'm better than Frank Wren
June 23rd, 20094:49 pm
That oughta win us a pennant.
June 23rd, 20094:50 pm
DAP – Also, I know nothing about his(Swisher) contract status. I was just hoping/assuming for the purposes of my statement that we could keep him(Soriano).
June 23rd, 20094:51 pm
Shouldn’t McLouth #2 replace someone other than McCann? How about he hits 1st and 8th. Having a ghost second baseman won’t be much different than having Kelly out there!
Hopefully KJ will cramp up and Prado can come in and bail this team out again…..
June 23rd, 20094:52 pm
Prado will be limited to playing because of the groin thing. He had to play last night, because there was no choice in the matter with KJ having to come out. I would take Prado over KJ anyday at 2B. Let KJ and Frenchy platoon so there will be one less automatic out during the game.
Van the Man
June 23rd, 20094:53 pm
DOB: Thanks for the move recommendation. I love Amanda Peet, very under-appreciated.
Man I love making crazy trades, it’s just a coincidence that it’s my name also…
Robert (Chipper Is The Best)
I know this will get me blasted but I’m going to say it anyway because I think its something to consider. Could the Braves dangle Kotchman along with a solid prospect and mabye Francoeur for somebody like Adam LaRoche? I know LaRoche is a strikeout machine but he is also a guy with power who can drive in runs.
Also, I think Vasquez has to be dangled if for no other reason to see what offers the Braves get. They can plug Medlen back into the rotation. I know its not ideal to have two rookies in the rotation but I think both rookies have established that they can be very good already.
Enough teams out there are desperate enough for pitching they will consider giving up a quality bat. The Tigers need some pitching and Magglio O. is in the doghouse. A trade could rejuvenate him. The Angels need pitching would they be willing to give up Vlad since it is unlikely they will exercise his option? Would the Rangers be willing to part with Marlon Byrd and a prospect? I live in Oklahoma City where the Rangers’ AAA affiliate is and they have some great prospects here whom the Braves could more than use.
The Rockies are playing well right now but that pitching isn’t exactly great. Maybe they give up Brad Hawpe? And the Brewers need pitching. Could either Corey Hart or Mike Cameron be available?
DOB the Math Major
June 23rd, 20094:55 pm
You and your numbers DOB. I think you have the ability to take any stretch of games and throw in your numbers to make any point you want to make. For example, why the last 5 games for McClouth (we have played 3 different teams)? But before that you had stats on Kelly’s last 18? Just curious if there is a strategy/formula to your propaganda or if you are just making a point during your various moods?
June 23rd, 20094:56 pm
I heard the guys from 300 are on the trade block. We should get them (and by them, I actually just mean Gerard Butler)
June 23rd, 20094:57 pm
Who dissed Prado? Nu uhhhhhh.
June 23rd, 20094:58 pm
Robert (chipper is the best)
I agree, with your nickname, that is. Why would the rockies trade a key component of their team when they are winning at almost a 100% pace over the last 2.5 weeks?
why do you think vlad guerrero has anything left in him at all?
magglio could definitely be had, but how much does he cost, and his dropoff is extremely alarming………
i really like marlon byrd, but he also is a key part of the rangers team. anyway, i just dont think we can get by without javy vazquez. he stabilizes the rotation.
June 23rd, 20094:59 pm
TBrianAlot of people on here are just clamoring for anyone different in the outfield.
in most cases, that would be an improvement. if you are talking about replacing jeff’s .650 OPS with swishers .883 OPS, that is a HUGE upgrade tot eh bottom of the order. just the walks would help, by turning the lineup over and getting the top more ABs.
soriano is the man. i like him more than gonzo. but, the fact is we have two closers, and if we had one closer and a good rightfielder, i think we win alot more ballgames. if we trade soriano, we could always sign him back. (not likely, but its possible)
i also think soriano is the one to go because he makes more money. so, if the braves are selling, they might as well do it right.
When you say that McLouth will be a ghost runner, do you mean like a Casper type ghost? or like a sixth sense type ghost? because that could determine how excited I am about it.
June 23rd, 20095:01 pm
Please, everyone go take a second look at what lefties are hitting against Wang- why wouldn’t we stack the line up with left handed hitters?
That is NOT A “HIT” It barely qualifys as a SONG!!
This lineup inspires the following, based on a reasonably famous poem of the years of the last century — “Baseball’s Sad Lexicon”
These are the saddest of possible words:
“Frenchy then Johnson strike out.”
Always swinging at balls in the dirt,
Frenchy then Johnson strike out.
Ruthlessly pricking our playoff bound bubble,
Smashing Braves rallies into mere rubble –
Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble:
“Frenchy then Johnson strike out.”
Brad Hawpe won’t be available and he has stated he would opt out of his contract if traded which would make him another rental player
i cant take it anymore
June 23rd, 20095:03 pm
all the COX haters are going to be fired up now…
Instead of letting chipper, our best hitter, bat twice, cox goes with McLouth.
June 23rd, 20095:04 pm
Nothing like a Johnny Cash song to start the day…
Let’s get the wood out boys, and kick some Yankee @$$!!!!! What a birthday present that would be!
June 23rd, 20095:05 pm
“DOB the Math Major” –
LOL on DOB’s stats. And why is everyone down on Frenchy? Can’t you see that in the last 21 hours and 7 mins he’s hitting .500 with an OPS of .875? Trade him while he’s hot, maybe?
I hope Tex gets booed….whether we would have traded him or not we all know he would have left us for New York anyway.ehhhhh hmmmm…back to my list….
1) I hope Tex gets booed
2) I hope Tex K’s at least once…( I don’t care what else he does)…
3) I hope he makes an error
Saw the minor league numbers of Brian McCann you posted earlier…
That’s been my argument on this blog for a while. Last year amid all the KJ/Prado debates, the main argument against Prado was minor league #’s (KJ outproduced him in the minors) and sample size at the major league level.
My argument was that some hitters hit major league pitching better. Don Mattingly? used to say this as well. Said that pitchers in the majors are always around the plate throwing strikes, so some players hit better in the majors than the minors.
I’m sure if you look up Yunel’s minor league numbers compared to his major league #’s, they’d be the same as BMac’s.
June 23rd, 20095:06 pm
I’m with ya on the Tex list bravos2249. I’ll be booing, that’s for sure.
June 23rd, 20095:07 pm
the Brewers are leading the central, why would they trade Cameron or Hart and if they did. Cameron is a stikeout machine and Hart’s numbers are down and he would hamper the Braves pursuit of a more permanent solutuion in the outfield.
“So stop complaining about the opposing fans and silence them.”
DOB- Was that directed at the fans, or was that pointed, say, at a certain Atlanta Braves RF?
20 worst everyday players… the braves have TWO starterrs on there. yikes!
DAP – We do have two closers but anyone else reliable in the bullpen? EO’F has been good this year but trustworthy down the stretch? Moylan has been better recently but I’m not too comfortable with him knockin out late innings of tight games right now. Swisher would be an upgrade over Frenchy offensively, but defensively, no. And it would significantly damage our bullpen. If we’re about this season, I just don’t think that trade helps us enough to call it “a steal.” But to your point about selling and selling right, if we end up selling, I say move em both. Lots of value there.
June 23rd, 20095:08 pm
I need to ammend my last post the Brewers are in 2nd by 1 game.
June 23rd, 20095:09 pm
I seriously liked the guy. Until he went to the Angels, said something about having GREAT protection over there…( Bmac hit behind him)….and the fact that he lived it up the second half of the season in Boras’s house with Manny. And the fact that the 20 million dollar man has to have a 32 million dollar man hitting behind him….PLEASE….if you are worth that much you should be able to hit with Frenchy hitting behind you.
Well, here’s the thing. The Braves need more power and production from right. They are going to have to give up something to get something. Now, that is unless they give up on the season. Besides, the Braves aren’t going to want a more “permanent” solution in rightfield when Jason Heyward is going to likely be here next year or the year after. Also, Jordan Schafer is going to be back up soooner than later.
June 23rd, 20095:10 pm
Is the game on FOX or ESPN? I missed the listing in the paper.
Well I ain’t paying to see but if it’s Jeff/KJ/Anderson…..then that’s NO surprise.
what game? FOX don’t show Tuesday games….the game is on ESPN tomorrow and FOX Sat
June 23rd, 20095:11 pm
Bravos2249 Until he went to the Angels, said something about having GREAT protection over there…( Bmac hit behind him)
DOB about your comment at 3:55 mentioning your Jayhawks being loaded you forgot one very important piece to that puzzle : Bill Self one of the best in the country
June 23rd, 20095:13 pm
I am Nate McClouth of the Clan McClouth. I see you have also met my good friends Jeff Francouer and Garrett Anderson.
June 23rd, 20095:14 pm
Thanx bravos. Tomorrow and Sat.
Chipper is always clutch, but why isn’t he hitting for more power? Is it finally age? Or is he going to go on one of those streaks again where he hits 10 in 2 weeks? The best was that stretch where he had an extra base hit every game for two weeks.
June 23rd, 20095:15 pm
Hope Hanson cann repeat his last start!
(Sorry…I’m only posting that so the thing will refresh. Well, I mean…I do want him to repeat his last start…)
